Its proximity to the coastal beaches was also welcomed by these inland travellers! Local transport was also easily available (trains, buses and taxis) if required Breakfast menu was carefully designed and executed and was served in a charming dining room by the host who offered much useful local information.
Cons: Bathroom was small but spotlessly clean with a powerful shower. Window was a little difficult to operate - swung round a little too quickly !!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bed, Nice Shower, Spotless Bathroom, We were very happy with choice of breakfast, Pleasant host, Would happily stay again, 5 mins walk from Town Centre. Maybe even less, I am disabled. Plenty Eating place near by, We loved " Dirty Bottles " but be careful what you order, you may end up with TOO much food. OUR Breakfast was ordered the night before, But many places we stay do that, we were alright with that Suprise, Croissants on table in morning, GREAT, WARM as well, LOVELY. We will be back, As I am researching my family and one was a Stonemason in Castle, plus worked else were in Nortumberland for the family.
Cons: Nothing about visit, We were looked after, Room wAs bright colours, but we all have Differant tastes. Pros: The Gardeners Cottage is a great space for family of four, lovely surroundings with added advantage use of pool & spa at hotel.
Cons: Lighting in bathroom was poor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, the history, buildings, grounds, decor. Originally booked into the groundkeepers cottage but when we discovered that no internet was available, friendly lady in reception offered to change our bookings and move into the main building.
Cons: No wifi in the cottage.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel building in beautiful grounds. Big car park with easy access drive up bag drop off point. Easy check in and escorted to your room. Good, fast lift, our Executive room was great size with really nice en suite but no separate shower and jacuzzi bath feature had been disconnected for supposed safety reasons which was a shame. Discovered the room had its own wifi router to boost the signal which transformed the signal from one to full bars - found it by chance but very useful. Dinner was superb - really good menu with excellent service and lovely food - proper fine dining. Nice pre-dinner bar area and also a separate quiet library. Breakfast was also good and nice prompt service. Checkout was easy and would highly recommend. We will definitely stay again. It was also excellent value for money. Sadly, no time to use the spa facilities which would seem a real bonus for next time!
Cons: Nothing! But beware of bird droppings, whilst parked under the trees in the car park!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious, beautifully furnished and decorated, spotlessly clean, well-equipped and luxurious. The hotel overall was quiet and peaceful, the service provided by staff was prompt, professional and friendly, the food superb and the whole ambience pleasant and tranquil. The crowning glory was the pool and spa facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. My only criticism was the foldaway bed which was so uncomfortable due to being old and broken that it could not be slept on.
Cons: The foldaway z-bed provided for my ten year old daughter was old, broken and so uncomfortable as to be impossible for anyone to sleep on. In the end I took the mattress off and slept on the floor and my daughter slept in the four-poster bed with my husband otherwise she would have had no sleep at all. Considering the cost of this foldaway bed is £25 per night it should really be of better quality.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: The whole experience was amazing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful house and gardens !!! Lovely rooms . Food at evening meal was gorgeous Had a facial in the spa treatment rooms which was amazing
Cons: I liked the spa but the pool area / jacuzzi quite small in relation to the size of the hotel but still nice to have

Pros: The staff made our stay perfect
Cons: Bathroom wasn’t very clean
6,0 Good
Pros: Big comfi king size beds. Good breakfast choice.
Cons: The bar is small. You order a meal you can eat in any lounge but the seats are too low to eat over the coffee table.

6,7 Good
Pros: The cooked breakfast
Cons: The toilet was split into 2 with the toilet and shower in one part and the sink and towels in the other part making shower and toilet part compact. When in the shower the water was all over the floor as the shower curtain kept sitting outside of the shower tray felt claustrophobic

Helping us out with suggestions on trips to make and laughing with us when we came back from the beach drenched because of the rain Haha. The place was spotless and beautifully decorated, the room was a great size as was the bathroom it was a 2 minute walk from the shops and only 5 minutes from the castle and Barters books. Breakfast was great, tasty, good quality ingredients with plenty of choice and filled us up for the day until the evening. Onsite parking including making your stay even easier. We would stay here again and again.

Pros: The bed was so uncomfortable, noisy, hard and sticking out springs. No soundproofing but that would have been okay if we had been able to sleep.
Cons: Bed Bed Bed Bed
4,2 Okay
Pros: Location, car park.
Cons: No restaurant after 4pm on Sunday's. Poor room that requires a good deal of touch up and repairs. Not enough staff to cope with hotel guests when a private function is being catered.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: I found that the staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Staff were wonderful. Absolutely no problems with the staff. I did order breakfast rather late...I work as a professional chef, sausages were good. My 'Waitress' from Rugby was great. She was attentive and listened to my verbal nonsense with polite aplomb. I had Sunday dinner..that was excellent. Service was professional. Attentive. Friendly. I will recommend The Plough.
Cons: I did order breakfast rather late, just before the 0930 cusp. Staff great. Sausages were great....l work as a professional chef, even so l found the poached eggs totally dry, no lovely yolks, black pudding was dry...(had it been on a hot plate for 30 minutes or so?). For £7.50 l would have expected better from a greasy spoon and a lot cheaper. Staff attention was wonderful. I would've torn a strip off a junior trainee for those "poached" eggs and black pudding.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great Sunday lunch Good evening meals Excellent room - quiet despite being next to restaurant Nice bar & friendly staff
Cons: Not much - the breakfast wasn’t as good as the other food we had but that’s a minor point
5,0 Okay
Pros: Ideal location for Alnwick and a good location if you are exploring the areas around Alnwick, free parking also.
Cons: The room we stayed in.A horrible sewerage smell out of the bathroom which came into the room as soon as you opened the bathroom door, there were no other rooms available to move us to which is fair enough as it was fully booked and the young lady did try and get rid of the smell with bleach etc but within a couple of hours it came back,on our last morning it litterally smelt like somebody had ate a Indian and used our toilet it was that bad, very disappointed. It does not help either when there is no window to open in the room we stayed in either.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Despite the hotel undergoing significant redecoration, the service and staff were excellent and the food, especially evening meals, was excellent.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from the staff, to the room, to the lovely breakfast. One of the best hotels I have stayed in.
Cons: Nothing to dislike

Pros: very quirky building
Cons: The untidy messy building materials left about
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Quirky, friendly and cosy. Breakfast was tasty and the gallery was amazing.
Cons: Bed a bit lumpy and a breakfast menu would be nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the antiques around the rooms and the way the owner incorporated them into the rooms spent a good hour just going round looking at how they had used old stuff to dress the rooms
Cons: I prefer to have a table to myself at breakfast that said I enjoyed the whole experience
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is such a delightful place to stay. It is out of the ordinary, charming, quirky and informal. There are large, round tables outside in the courtyard, and also in the dining room, which means you mix with other residents in a friendly way.
Cons: The table outside our room was comandeered by a family celebrating the dad's birthday, leaving no room for us. More outdoor tables, please!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I don’t believe the above categories real do it justice. Alnwick Lodge definitely has it’s own particular eclectic style. Staff where excellent. Food was excellent. If anything, I think they under charge.
Cons: Nothing in particular
9,2 Excellent
Pros: generous size room with extra features - roll top bath tub, velux window, spare bed and chair.
Cons: Needed extra potions of milk jiggers - had to borrow from the little vacant room adjacent to the room stayed in. I misunderstood the doorway to be leading directly outside to the car park, unfortunately it was raining so had to leave some of the bag in boot. I hoped to sort out our bags. Due to late arrival and early start did not get to see the town we hoped to do.

Pros: Location location and parking behind the hotel were perfect. All meal in the restaurant we’re superb and it is so nice to have our little yorkie with us
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Every effort was made to assist us, we had a very pleasant spacious suite, excellent food
Cons: Nothing comes to mind
6,3 Good
Pros: Good location, easy walk to the castle and around the town. Staff were friendly and approachable. Decent breakfast included. Room was tired but clean.
Cons: The car park is small and "first come first served" so you're not guaranteed a space, this wasn't clear when we booked the room. The window in our room didn't close and the karaoke was very loud which disturbed our sleep. Also, the bedroom door would rattle and shake when other people opened/closed their doors.
6,7 Good
Pros: Excellent breakfast
Cons: We booked an executive double room. The room is of inferior standard, compared to other hotels we’ve stayed in. It was tiny small, with very little space for our ‘stuff’ If this was an executive double room, I’m glad we didn’t stay in a standard room!

Cons: The staff weren't there most of the time. The downstairs area looked quite clean but the rooms and corridors upstairs were shabby and unclean. The room was small and uncomfortable. Facilities were very basic. There was noone available to order breakfast from although it was included in the price.
5,4 Okay
Pros: The room was not to bad
Cons: The breakfast was cold and undercooked and was very cheap 1 sausage (banger)and slice of streaky bacon 2 small mushrooms half a tomato and a small spoon of bake beans all cold.first morning we did not get breakfast we sat waiting from 9am and no one was about then a 10.10am dodo came in and said we where to late breakfast he also said he was very ill and looked ill as I complain we had not had breakfast he said he could do some toast as he look so I'll I said he should not be cooking for anyone. Breakfast was from 9am to 10am on the menu There was no room service the TV did not work the heating did no work and the be9d side light did not work. The other guest where all complaining Some one keep smoking in the hotel (the staff) All the locals apologise when we told them where we where staying.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Good location
Cons: TV in room did not work. Staff rude and uninformative and did not seem to know what they were doing. Mushrooms growing in corners and general uncleanliness. Someone has attempted improvements but at diy standard e.g hot tap is actually cold and vice versa
7,5 Good
Pros: Location, food was lovely, staff very good, if i had been staying longer than 1 night i would have to have moved rooms, as when we got in late at night there was a strong damp smell, sprayed loads of perfume to mask the smell, decor very dated could do with a makeover, but that could take away from the haunted hotel. I would stay again but i would make sure i request not to have the room number we stayed in.... Restaurant was excellent and cooked breakfast in the morning was also excellent.
Cons: apart from the smell in the room not much to dislike
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: There was nothing to like at this hotel. I paid for a bed and breakfast, we were provided with bedrooms however we never got our breakfast. There was one person on duty who was the cook, the barman, the decorator and the receptionist. He was always knocking on our door expecting to come in and chat he wouldn't leave us alone he disrespected our privacy. at one point he even made crude sexual advances. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
Cons: Everything
4,2 Okay
Pros: The location was super. Alnmouth is a pretty village, with a fantastic beach and there are several good eating establishments within walking distance.
Cons: When it comes to the hotel itself, EVERYTHING! It was shabby and not at all like the pictures on the website. We booked a twin room, were shown to a double and when we protested, had to wait while they made up another room, even though we were the only guests staying. Breakfast was awful! Poor quality ingredients, not well cooked. No fruit juice, and only one cereal on offer. Room not serviced, so we came back to unmade beds and wet towels. There was no soap or shower gel in the bathroom. Not enough electric sockets in the bedroom. Kettle was on a table nowhere near a socket. Two sachets of coffee and a few tea bags, but no milk. DO NOT STAY HERE! Ignore the photos and read the reviews.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Location to wedding and thats it
Cons: Everything else, looked run down, expensive compared to paying only £10 more in Newcastle for a 2 bedroom apartments. Breakfast looked mircowaved, tea water was luke warm. Other guests all complaining at breakfast. Owner or staff (not sure) English was very poor and when asked where another pub was they didn't know where it was even though there is only 1 road going through village as was at opposite end from them - so not aware on their own community. This venue is only worth £35-40 a night.
