The Whitehall Hotel is a landmark destination on Delaware Place, half a block west of famous Michigan Avenue shopping and dining, and east of Rush Street, a lively strip of vibrant hotspots with the combination of traditional Chicago flare and international flavor in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Great location. Short walk to the Magnificent Mile and all the sights of downtown. The hotel was nicely decorated with a retro look, and the rooms were clean. Did not see a whole lot of staff in the hotel or restaurant. One person working the front desk and was usually pretty busy, so it took a little longer to get help. This is an historic building, so it is old. But it is kept up fairly well, and the rooms are very nice. Large TV, fully tiled bathrooms, very comfortable beds. The only thing that kept me from giving an excellent rating is that the hotel seems fairly thin on staff. No real concierge, no doorperson, no daily room service. Pros (+) I was the only one in our group that liked the old school feel the room had to offer. The others thought it was tacky and incredibly outdated. The location was fantastic for our first tour of Chicago as well!!!
Cons (-) The glasses inside of the room had lipstick on them. I reported this to the lady behind the desk and I do not think she believed me. She gave me a pack of plastic cups and sent me on my way. This was fine but the reaction was not as I expected. It was as if dirty dishes in the room was a common occurrence.
