Pros: Very clean new rooms and a very friendly and helpful chambermaid on the 5th. floor (many thanks for the daily fruits!). The location is very near to a local subway, some opportunities for breakfast and the Niujie - street (google it! Hotpot!). And last but not least: The nice staff got us an upgrade to a larger room :-)

Cons: Since some upper rooms of the hotel are still under reconstruction (Oct. 2019), it might occur that you can hear noises (drills, etc.) after nine o'clock. When you intend to leave in the morning, this will not bother you at all (It did not bother me, by the way).

Pros: Very clean and good staff. Wish more staff spoke English
Cons: The room keys seemed to not work after one day at a time. Every day would go to the room to find out that the key didn’t work, and have to go back down to the front desk and get it reprogrammed. A little frustrating

Pros: Location was good, size of the room was ok. Most of the hotel staff was friendly.
Cons: The room was extremly hot in the afternoon, had to turn on the air-con during early spring. Carpet required some serious cleaning and breakfast was far less-valued for its price. Didn't look like a "Tangla" at all...
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I like this hotel due to its central location, close to several government agencies and the metro. The rooms are very functional with good lighting and many tv channels. The sauna and the pool are also good. I have stayed in this hotel over twenty times and will definitely choose it again next time.
Cons: There is a very high turnover in reception staff and also differences in service mentality across the staff.
7,9 Good
Pros: The gym was fantastic for a hotel gym. The best, and better than the other 5 star hotel gyms I've been at.
Cons: I felt the staff weren't that friendly, but otherwise the place was great. The gym staff were very friendly.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very friendly and helpful. They know some english, but I recommend to download the „Microsoft Translator“ app to avoid any misunderstanding. Service at the glance (booked taxi on time), breakfast very tasty! Thank you very much for the stay!
Cons: A minor negative point is that you must do a pre-authorisation on your VISA card at check-in. Keep just in mind to raise your credit card limit.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The best asset of this hotel is its location; young German junior concierge was the most helpful staff in the whole hotel.
Cons: The hotel is run down, with rooms and especially bathrooms requiring serious renovation; most of stuff does not speak any English. I was yelled at during the breakfast by one of the managers who was suggesting that my deposit for room was not sufficient to allow me to have breakfast....despite the fact that the reception had all of my credit card details and $600 was blocked as security deposit. I asked the manager in return if he think I would run away and not pay $20 for breakfast.
7,9 Good
Pros: The location is excellent, a few minutes' walk to the main subway line and walking distance to several government agencies. The pool is nice. If lucky, can have a nice view from the room.
Cons: I arrived late night and had to go back twice to the reception as the key I got did not work.

Pros: As a solo white traveler who only speaks English, china has been full of scammers, willing to tell you anything for money. To the unfortunate extent that if I notice somebody is giving me help unconditionally, I know something is wrong (even if they are a government worker!). At holiday inn downtown Beijing, I found respite from this. The staff was helpful, friendly, and spoke enough English to communicate without trouble. These simple things made a huge difference for me. They helped with taxis, tourist sites, laundry, and had nice service for meals. Room was quite nice as well.

Cons: The hotel is on a very busy road and I was very aware of traffic noise even though I was on the 10th floor. Having said that, most large European hotels are situated in similar locations. The room was also very warm as the air conditioning has been switched off as it was now considered to be ‘winter’

Pros: The hotel is hidden in a small back street (hutong) very close to the houhai lake. The hotel is modern, small and well designed, nicely decorated. I was lucky to get one of the big rooms which opens on the theatre in the inner court. Hot water arrived immediately for the shower. Bathrobes are provided, a nice solid soap, hair dryer. Breakfast was very good. The bed was very comfortable, the room was cozy and pleasant. Not all rooms are that big however and only a few have a nice view on the inner court. The shadow art performance was fine but a bit too short! Very interesting though, it could have lasted twice as long!!

Pros: Lovely example of a classic courtyard hotel. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds. As a bonus the free shadow puppet show is interesting. The area that the hotel is in may seem a little daunting to those who have not spent much time in traditional Beijing before but it feels extremely safe and is fine once you get used to it.

Pros: The room is clean and the bed is comfy. The breakfast is really nice with some continental and Chinese staff. It’s not very rich but you can find everything you need. The property is really close to the main attractions and to the metro station. The staff is amazing and helpful.

Pros: Breakfast with good coffee, bacon and eggs, and toast and yoghurt suited me. Not much choice if one was wanting Chinese breakfast. Staff kindly advised when breakfast service was finishing and they did restock items as they ran out. The hutong area has a nice vibe, but navigating the journey from the subway was not straightforward. It is only 10 mins walk from the subway so we didn't need a taxi, so that is not really a problem unless you have a lot of luggage. If you have GPS you will be fine. The reception is always attended so no worry about not being able to get in upon arrival, as with some B&B establishments. The shadow puppets were enjoyable, and memorable. Credit to the staff for being multi talented.

Pros: The area is very residential and you see how Beijing people go about their daily lives. It is close to good eating areas and some beautiful parks and waterways.

9,1
Pros: Comfortable, Western-style beds, clean and functioning Western-style bathrooms (where the entire bathroom does NOT convert into a shower), and close proximity to central Beijing, subways, and general walkability were our priorities. This hotel hit them all, and also managed to be a great value compared to hotels.
I'd say the amenities were on par with maybe the top 1/4 tier of Western chain hotels, but the price was that of a middle tier Chinese hotel. The friendly and helpful staff (many of whom speak English) and cultural aspect was a bonus as well.

Cons: They lack big mugs for tea, only coffee cups. The tea bags are low quality, in the country which invented tea, it is a pity. They change towels and even hardly used shampoo bottles every day which is a terrible waste. They should wait for the bottles to be emptied and the towels should be changed only upon request (who changes towels at home every day ? It is incredible that people should like to have them changed because they are in a hotel!)

Cons: The hotel needs some capital expenditure on it. The beds in our first room were absolutely worn out - springs protruding - so that was two nights bad sleep. The second room's window would not close and staff said that they knew it was off the hinges at the top. This caused a cold draught on my head during the three November nights we were in this room. The downstairs carpet was originally of high quality but needs to be removed as it is now food and drink stained, as it is unsuitable for where people come in off the streets and where people dine. There are no chairs in the rooms, and no fridges. The staff kindly let me store our water in their fridge. The bathroom lighting is so poor one cannot put makeup on. There are no power points beside the bed. In the first room there was a bedside lamp but no working power point to make it go. One couldn't use the TV powerpoint because the TV was wired in. We had to make do with just one power point in the bedroom and one in the bathroom, which is inadequate in these times of mobile phones etc. The hotel owner is lucky to have such obliging reception staff and manager, as their attitude went a long way to making our stay pleasant even though the facilities were poor. The bedmaking was merely superficial, in that the duvet was straightened out but the under sheet and mattress protector were not. One had to make one's own bed in effect. The housekeeping staff were pleasant. China's hotel star rating system is a mystery. If this establishment was rated two star it would be good. But it is rated four star so disappointment is a given. There is no lift for instance. Maybe the high rating is becasuse they offer all meals and plenty of reception service hours??

Cons: The rooms are on the smaller side; they definitely fall under the "boutique" category, but the bed and bathrooms were all very large and comfortable, so we didn't mind the lack of "common" space. You're not able to control the air conditioning, but we found the temperature comfortable.
Bear in mind that, as an energy saving measure, you need a hotel key card to turn the power on in the room, so you can't, for instance, leave something charging all day while you're out.

Staff is very friendly and helpful with any issues or tips for sightseeing. They speak good English. Rooms are very quiet and clean. Free shuttle to the South Rail station. We liked the hotel very much but we would chose a different neighborhood the next time. We would stay closer to north part of town - the connection to the airport is much better and easier, the neighborhoods offer better food options especially around Lama Temple. Even though the hotel is not too far from a metro station (and taking the metro is super easy in Beijing) , having to switch several times to get to the places we wanted to see gets tiring with time.

Pros: Overall, it was a good stay. Convenient location for the price you pay. Beds were comfortable and wifi worked good everywhere.
Cons: Separation between your room and the ensuited toilet was like a huge window, which doesnt give you much privacy. Unfortunately, we had a chinese old guy in our room who used to smoke everytime he used the toilet, so the room got really smelly. Asked for some food recommendations at the hostel and they told me that there were plenty of options in the blocks nearby (?) maybe I was expecting something more specific!

Pros: I love the location of the hostel. We did not have a hard finding it since it is close to the metro. The staff is approachable and nice and we love the single room we booked.
Cons: I just hope to improve the heater system in the room area since it is really cold and the comforter is not enough to fight off the cold.
7,5 Good
Pros: The cleanliness, working air conditioning, helpful staff when i checked in. Value for money
Cons: 1. The staff didnt treat everyone fairly. The staff told me no outside food allowed in their cafe. Next to me was a Macdonald burger food wrapper. I also observe that many tourist ate in the cafe oitside bought food like Subway. Talk about double standard. 2. Poor handling of room change. This happened to my roommate who was rightfully furious with what happened. They wanted my roommate to change room because they wanted to accomdate a bigger group. Firstly, they did not ask her permission. Then the staff had neglicated to let her know the room change the night before. Imgine her horror when she came back to find her things packed by the staff in plastic bag to make room for the new occupant. They also did not call her to inform her of the room change. 3. The bathroom flooded when used heavily (when 5 of us shower after each other). Drainage system needed improvement.

Pros: Great location.
Cons: The cafe wasn't open for the free breakfast.

Pros:
Cons: No one spoke english, the staff were very rude. My room smelled bad sometimes...
1,0 Poor
Pros: Nothing it could have been worse I guess, it wasn’t a dirty alleyway
Cons: Whole room smelt very strong of pee, they cleaned it I guess? But not with anything that disinfects. No lockers or bag storage at all, everyone was tripping over each other’s bags as the room was tight as a sardine tin. Or you just had to sleep with your luggage which was not fun, beds are too low to fit anything but shoes underneath. Only one wifi router on the first floor, internet was so bad you couldn’t even send a txt over iMessage. Staff was not friendly or sometimes quite rude. Nice coffee I guess but at a steep price, cheaper to go to costa coffee or Starbucks if you can believe that. Oh and the whole place was freezing cold all the time. Enjoy!
7,1 Good
Pros: young environment
Cons: they closed consumption area / bar without any pre alert. thus very few common area to stay for reading a book
