Pros: We liked everything! The staff were so polite, helpful & friendly, the location of the hotel could not have been better- so close to everything, the room was lovely- spacious, clean, comfortable with wonderful little touches- the bathroom accessories, someone had thought about absolutely everything when they put that kit together, the soaps/shampoos were of a high quality, the slippers, lavender pillow options, Comp water delivered. Top marks. Wish we had been able to stay longer !!

Pros: The location is great, with access to harbour facilities. The hotel itself is well appointed and comfortable. With one minor correction, service was excellent. And on the minor point, the hotel went to great lengths to resolve the issue.

Cons: Nothing. There was no way we could fault this hotel at all. Everything from the minute we walked in and had our bags worn for us to check in, the room, house keeping service, amenities and breakfast- tick tick tick!!!

Pros: I couldn't fault, the breakfast and the staff who were on duty the two days that I stay in "The Bolton". You know from the time, I got out of the car, and staff where their, to taking me to my room. It was a joy to stay at the hotel, and not forgetting the meals and the staff who cooked and brought them to my room, 10 star to them. Thank you all for making me feel like a V.I.P. I am not just saying this, I really mean it for the bottom of my heart. :)

Cons: Waited 50 for breakfast no one let us know it was going to be such a long wait, there had been a few people having the buffet but they were finishing up when we ordered. We were the only people in the restaurant now, no one thought to enquire if we were ok or if we would like a coffee or tea, After some time we had noticed a couple of plates sitting under the heat lamps and were hoping they weren’t our Eggs Benedict, after 10 minutes plates still under the heat lamps we went to find someone to see how long it would be as we had been waiting over 40 minutes, to be told they had to make the hollandaise sauce. We told the young lady that served us we couldn’t wait much longer, no one came to our rescue after another 10 minutes so we walked out. They kindly charged us for the breakfast we didn’t get. The lady at reception took it off our bill with no apology. I can’t believe the chef thought it was ok to put poached eggs and salmon under a heat lamp while he made the hollandaise sauce... How was that ever going to taste good..

Cons: The Vista suites are part of another building and do not have airconditioning. The rooms are small by todays standards. It was quite a warm day and night and the windows and door had to be opened. Given Wellington is so windy this has its drawbacks and especially noise overnight.

Staff was pleasant, I believe it was a husband and wife team running the place. The location could not have been better, a 5 minute walk from the downtown area for food and drinks but on a quiet street.
Then again, my bed was right by the window so I was woken up a few times by loud people walking by the street. We were in an A-Frame room, which looks like they all border the street. So noise could be an issue in this room type vs. the others.

Cons: Our room also looked different from the online pictures which were of the upstairs rooms. I addressed this with the staff and they said they could not control which pictures were shown. A bit disappointing, but the room was the same layout nonetheless.

Cons: The attitude of the staff. They were busy but very “robotic” in their approach. Everything has to be paid up front even breakfast and the fact that you have to give a “credit” when you book in is not considered when you want a drink or dine there. It’ a very clinical approach that I have not experienced elsewhere and I travel a lot. You are paying a premium for a bed because the WOW show is on and that should not be. The hotel’s takings must take a slump when there is no show on. I would not stay again.

The continuous supply of Kawakawa tea and cookies in the lounge area was so lovely. The Forage restaurant food and staff were amazing. Although it's not in the centre of town it is only a 15-20 minute walk away and the bonus about that is it's quiet and no busy traffic noise.

The Grand Mercure-branded bottle of water that the guy from the front-desk left for me in my car on departure was the nicest touch to end a great stay.

Pros: The staff were amazing- friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The room was very clean and beds really comfortable. The continuous supply of Kawakawa tea and cookies in the lounge area was so lovely. The Forage restaurant food and staff were amazing. Although it's not in the centre of town it is only a 15-20 minute walk away and the bonus about that is it's quiet and no busy traffic noise.
Cons: The walls bewteen the rooms are not very sound proof- we could hear people talking next door quite easily as well as people walking past our door. Fortunately they weren't up all night.

If the dining tables and chairs that share the lounge were removed and replaced with some comfortable armchairs it would be much nicer. It definitely needs a gas flamed fireplace under the wall tv. It would then be a place to attract people for drinks at the bar. Free daily newspapers could be there on a modern wall stand not taking up any space.

Simply leave the motorway at The Terrace and you almost drive into the facilities! Just as easy to get back onto the motorway! Room was comfortable as was the bed. Cons: We stayed in a triple room. The sofa bed was completely slumping in the middle, clearly visible to the eye. When this was mentioned to reception, they said they already knew about the bed. As we flew to Wellington for the day and were out and about, coming back from WOW late, I just slept on it. Reception told me I should’ve told them and they would’ve put another mattress on top of the old one!! The point is they ALREADY knew the mattress was in extremely poor condition and slumping, that they should’ve done something before we arrived. It would cost such a small amount to replace, less that the high amount we paid for the room! The attitude of reception was one of completely disregard. I emailed them regarding this after and never heard back. The beds in the room were also cheap mattresses and not comfortable but at least they didn’t practically fold you in half as you slept. ( this is no exaggeration- I should’ve taken a photo!) VERY disappointing

Pros: Everything. Very period hotel with all the original chatels intact. Lift is from the 40's original & working. Staff soon becomes friends. Would do it again. Very very local with 2 mins to Courtney place. Very is an original 1920 cinema across the road. Loved it heaps. Not for the person that expect luxury on a budget. It is what you pay for but sure as hell value for money.

Pros: The breakfast is delicious. (Although the compendium in the room shows outdated prices). The staff were nice, we had an issue with our first room it hot sorted asap and we were upgraded without a problem. Location is great and generally it's a great place will stay again, just needs a good clean
Cons: This is our 4th visit, and the cleaning has definitely gone downhill. There is dust everywhere in the room, mould in the bathroom, and walls and cupboards filthy. Needs a really good scrub and clean.

Cons: The dorms are just dark and gloomy There was people in our dorm that just STUNK! Like it was unbearable. There was really loud people at times just screaming and shouting down the corridors (would of thought hotel staff would of had a better hold on that) Not enough plug sockets for me in the room

Cons: some back packer guests(men I tink fequently missedthe toilet when using so if Iused toilet during the night found some wet floors around toilets. some very very noisy guests on Friday night banging on doors etc, prevented sleep.

Cons: It was far too expensive for us to eat there. Continental breakfast was $50 for two. Too much money for toast.

Cons: We were put in a room next door to a generator or air con unit, there was a constant noise like having a dryer going, and a scratching/creaking against the wall where the bed was. Could not sleep so checked out at 430 am and drove home to get some sleep, was not asked if we enjoyed our stay.

Stayed only one night and no one asked us about our experience or would have suggested this. Also the toilet door needs repair. It was a task to open and close it. For $150 a night at least things could be perfect. For anyone who’s interested they have free milk, cereal and fruit for breakfast. The single bed made a lot of noise. Room was heated well though. They also have sky tv.

Cons: Bathrooms were filthy, actually disgusting. Atmosphere wasn't pleasant in the hostel. Car park was very challenging to manover in. Place needed to be done up, hole in the press in our room, carpets in hallways old and worn and gross.

Cons: The room was cold. the beds were highly uncomfortable and the street noise was appalling. The convenient toilets were not functional and the elevator broke down and still was out of order 3 days later. The info was out of date and some of it irrelevant the carpet was filthy and there were horrible signs of extensive water damage. The promised bar was closed and the pool table was not functional. Filthy drawings in the wardrobe and bedding was sub standard. Overall a disappointment.
