Wellington hotels near Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

Pros: lots of choices for breakfast and the service was superb. we were attending WOW so the reason we booked with you was due to the proximity of the location

Pros: The staff were wonderful from check in to cleaning of room

Cons: No pillow selection - bed not that comfortable - my upgrade (paid for) didn’t get processed- not a good enough food selection

Pros: The location of the hotel was very nice ans the staff was beyond warm and welcoming!

Pros: We were in Wellington for WOW and the InterContinental was very close to the venue. The central location is also very good for walking to Te Papa and shops.

Pros: Location and facilities to a fine standard

Cons: Smelt strong ammonia smell off a fish dish whilst at the bar getting drinks. That plus average bar service meant we relocated to Charlie Nobels for our meals.

Pros: We liked everything! The staff were so polite, helpful & friendly, the location of the hotel could not have been better- so close to everything, the room was lovely- spacious, clean, comfortable with wonderful little touches- the bathroom accessories, someone had thought about absolutely everything when they put that kit together, the soaps/shampoos were of a high quality, the slippers, lavender pillow options, Comp water delivered. Top marks. Wish we had been able to stay longer !!

Cons: Nothing. There was no way we could fault this hotel at all. Everything from the minute we walked in and had our bags worn for us to check in, the room, house keeping service, amenities and breakfast- tick tick tick!!!

Pros: The location is great, with access to harbour facilities. The hotel itself is well appointed and comfortable. With one minor correction, service was excellent. And on the minor point, the hotel went to great lengths to resolve the issue.

Cons: Nothing in particular.

Cons: The basin in the bathroom was cracked

Pros: Location is excellent! Staff were very helpful and the rooms were very clean and well stocked with tea and coffee. The rooms were really well soundproofed too - we didn't hear very much at all from our neighbours.

Cons: Could have had a few more decaf options in the tea caddy, but that is really minor!

Pros: Great location, room was clean and modern

Pros: Clean, warm and comfortable motel unit, very close to shops and restaurants. Parking outside unit, small kitchenette, free wifi and separate bedroom for the kids.

Cons: This is a good value for money family motel, nothing fancy but very clean and comfortable. Do not have any negative comments (but please stop providing those tiny plastic shampoos! A paper-wrapped bar of soap is all you need to save all that plastic waste !)

Pros: My friend and I spent 3 nights at the Apollo Lodge and we were very pleased with our stay. Staff was pleasant, I believe it was a husband and wife team running the place. The location could not have been better, a 5 minute walk from the downtown area for food and drinks but on a quiet street. Then again, my bed was right by the window so I was woken up a few times by loud people walking by the street. We were in an A-Frame room, which looks like they all border the street. So noise could be an issue in this room type vs. the others.

Cons: Our room also looked different from the online pictures which were of the upstairs rooms. I addressed this with the staff and they said they could not control which pictures were shown. A bit disappointing, but the room was the same layout nonetheless. The beds were not the most comfortable beds but they did just fine.

Pros: Based in an old Edwardian house, it's a perfect stay for retro-lovers. And its location is exceptional!

Cons: A little bit worn out.

Cons: View from room didn't match advertised description ie Harbour view was building site. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Great location and wonderful facilities. Highly recommended.

Pros: Great staff and restaurant although a little pricey but food was really good.

Cons: Bathroom is average and needs to be updated to match rest of hotel. Toilet seat was loose as was cupboard door in kitchen. Tv's are a little old as well and small. Limited channels

Pros: Location and spa pool and swimming pool were wonderful.

Cons: Unfortunately they did not have bacon at our inclusive breakfast.

Pros: The proximity to the TSB Arena which is why I stayed there.

Cons: The attitude of the staff. They were busy but very “robotic” in their approach. Everything has to be paid up front even breakfast and the fact that you have to give a “credit” when you book in is not considered when you want a drink or dine there. It’ a very clinical approach that I have not experienced elsewhere and I travel a lot. You are paying a premium for a bed because the WOW show is on and that should not be. The hotel’s takings must take a slump when there is no show on. I would not stay again.

Pros: Bed was comfy and room size was good and was so clean.

Cons: Not a morning person so the checkout times - but i know that's standard lol The room decor- lovely clean room but just a personal note the cutrains and the big backboard for the bed. Artsy, yes, but looks like blood splattered all over the room! That's just personal taste however haha

Pros: The room and ensuite were absolutely spotless. Good facilities and lighting in the rooms. Nice toiletries

Cons: The seating area in the lounge/lobby isn't at all welcoming or cozy. If the dining tables and chairs that share the lounge were removed and replaced with some comfortable armchairs it would be much nicer. It definitely needs a gas flamed fireplace under the wall tv. It would then be a place to attract people for drinks at the bar. Free daily newspapers could be there on a modern wall stand not taking up any space.

Pros: Central city location, great staff.

Cons: Lacks any facilities, no pool, not even a laundry to do some washing. Sent down the road to their sister hotel the Ibis with bags of washing was not something I was going to bother doing.

Cons: I did have a problem with the room key. They failed to work on Sat night and staff didn’t answer phone. I was lucky another guest managed to come along and let us in. The heating didn’t work and the shower was complicated. When I tried to get help via housekeeping. They didn’t answer the phone.

Pros: Very warm welcome by Check in staff and offered early access to our room.

Cons: Requested sheets to be changed but this request was ignored

Pros: The cleanliness of the room was great. The location was spot on for us too and the lift to Lambton Quay was an excellent facility.

Cons: The bed unfortunately!! The pillows were far too soft and both my friend and I found sleeping on them not good! The mattress was also very soft.

Pros: We enjoyed out stay. Easy access to shops, restaurants and the waterfront. Close enough to walk to Te Papa and other sites. Room was mall but clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly & helpful. Would stay here again.

Cons: Can not really think of anything to fault. Perhaps having a cloth for wiping the bench when you make a coffee. But overall we were very happy with everything.

Cons: We stayed in a triple room. The sofa bed was completely slumping in the middle, clearly visible to the eye. When this was mentioned to reception, they said they already knew about the bed. As we flew to Wellington for the day and were out and about, coming back from WOW late, I just slept on it. Reception told me I should’ve told them and they would’ve put another mattress on top of the old one!! The point is they ALREADY knew the mattress was in extremely poor condition and slumping, that they should’ve done something before we arrived. It would cost such a small amount to replace, less that the high amount we paid for the room! The attitude of reception was one of completely disregard. I emailed them regarding this after and never heard back. The beds in the room were also cheap mattresses and not comfortable but at least they didn’t practically fold you in half as you slept. ( this is no exaggeration- I should’ve taken a photo!) VERY disappointing

Pros: comfortable beds, clean rooms, has everything you'd need for a comfortable stay (hair dryer, microwave, mini fridge, water heater, tea/coffee, great views), friendly and helpful staff, convenient location...i would definitely stay here again!
