Pros: Super organized friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location, good information, convenient parking
Cons: I dislike having an assigned seat for breakfast. As an American I would actually prefer to have the opportunity to sit near non-Americans. I’m here to experience another culture. And I don’t mind speaking German or Italian with the staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Cavallino D'Oro is a truly the most beautiful and wonderful hotel that we have ever experienced in Europe. The staff featuring Sophia was incredibly friendly and helpful. The staff recommended that we visit both the Marinzen Alm and Seis Am Schlern lifts to enjoy stunning Dolomite scenery, which were both fabulous and memorable. The location off the square of Kastleruth is outstanding. The interior of the Hotel is fantastic and every detail is impressive. We hope to return to both this fantastic Hotel and fabulous town in the future!
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This property is truly special. I have been in hospitality management/ownership for nearly 30 years, and this is such a great example of what real hospitality is. We stayed here in 2014, had such a wonderful experience we went back in 2019 - it was just as amazing as the first time - that is not easy to do, meet or exceed the first impression. Hospitality from the staff is top-tier, really can't compliment them enough. The property is meticulously maintained - rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable, quiet. This is a true escape from the world - in the shadow of the mighty Alpe di Siusi - the town of Castelrotto (Kastleruth) is stunning. You want an escape, want to be treated with genuine hospitality? Book your trip and stay at the Hotel Cavallino D'Oro - you will wonder why you didn't book for longer. The breakfast is a full-spread from savory, sweet, and healthy options - if you can't find something delicious you're simply not trying. Again, the service is truly remarkable. There are too many remarkable activities and restaurants to sample in the immediate vicinity to even scratch in a single visit. And lastly - they have a bar onsite that is open to 11 pm with draft beer, cocktails, wine, and espresso - everything you need for your getaway to Italy. I'm not affiliated in any way to the property or owners - just truly an awesome experience - and we can't wait to return.

Pros: Amazing hotel. Amazing breakfast. The staff were very very very nice. The rooms are big, amazing view. Clean. If we'll go back to the dolomites we defantly go back to this hotel

Schgaguler Hotel - Castelrotto - Building

9,6 Excellent (176 reviews)
R4 326+
Overview Reviews
Located in Castelrotto, Schgaguler Hotel is a 1-minute drive from Isarco Valley and 5 minutes from Natural Park Schlern-Rosengarten. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this hotel was fantastic. We stayed an extra night because we liked the hotel so much. The entire hotel was completely remodeled in 2018. The rooms were well designed & comfortable. The restaurant and bar were excellent. The Schgaguler family and staff were so kind and helpful. They proved “over-the-top” service. The spa & pools were a perfect place to relax after a day of hiking and the views of Alpe di Suisi were breathtaking. I would definitely stay here again!
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect for my wife and I that we cancelled our travel plans following and stayed longer. From the well executed minimalist design to the attention to detail in the bedding and furniture to the dishes and glasses, we were in bliss the whole time. To top it all off, the view from our balcony. We’ve already decided we’re coming back in the future...
Cons: The worst part was having to leave.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful design with attention to detail at all levels - a modern minimalist aesthetic. The art - large format photography of the mountains was my favorite! Service in the front, at the bar and in the restaurant was extremely friendly.
Cons: We booked the least expensive room rate and ended up getting a ground level room near the pool area. We were there during low season and hotel was not fully booked so it worked out; however if it would've been busier, we most likely would've asked for a room on a upper floor.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional hotel! Next to the really tasteful interiors and beautiful architecture this hotels biggest asset is its authenticity and the warmth of a family run hotel. A place where everybody is genuinely friendly and where everything and everybody just contributes to the purpose of making people just happy! Very sorry to leave but definitely will come back here!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: You can see from the pictures that the hotel is beautifully designed and expertly executed (props to the local craftsmen!) and that the location is perfect for exploring Alpe di Siusi, but I'd like to tell you that the staff made this stay unforgettable. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive but never lurking. They were more than accommodating with our 1-year-old daughter, and they even gifted us with free massages. I had low expectations when I read half board included, but my husband and I were blown away by the food (and we're from San Francisco.) An amazing assortment at breakfast, including eggs any way you like 'em, and a gourmet four-course dinner with wonderful local wines. They accommodated his gluten intolerance and treated him to warm gluten free croissants in the morning and fresh tagliatelle in the evenings. I would recommend this hotel to friends, family, strangers... its a great value for a truly wonderful vacation!
Cons: No negative comments.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful and stylish hotel. Great architecture and very very forthcoming and friendly staff. Would recommend this place to everyone who wants to spend time in a beautiful and quiet region of the Dolomites.
Cons: Maybe they could have a bit more towels and beverages in the SPA area.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very kind and friendly staff. Beautifyl room and view
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect

Pros: The rooms are really comfortable and everything is really clean! Breakfast is not only delicious but you have some amazing views while you eat. Couldn't recommend more.
Cons: Everything was great!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing neighbourhood and a wonderful view from the balcony. Modern and very cozy rooms. Great staff. Breakfast beyond expectations.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Easy 5 stars. Let me start of by saying that this is not the most ideal place to stay when using public transportation - however it is very possible still. Bus stop is 500 meters downhill from the house. The host, Mirjam. Gosh, she is amazing! She came to pick me up when the bus was running ahead of the schedule and I missed it because of that. I'd had to wait for 1 hour by the dark road if she would not have been able to pick me up. Amazing service! She then dropped me off to a nearby town so I could get something to eat. Then I took the bus 351 to the house. I also got upgraded room from the basement to the upstairs with a balcony, amazing! If you are traveling by public transportation, here are few tips: From Bolzano, take the regional train to Chiusa (buy ticket from tobacco shop in the station there is a guy who is speaking English, it'll be around 4.50€). From Chiusa enter the bus 351, buy ticket to Ceves from the driver (it'll be 1.50€). DOWNLOAD Südtirol2Go App from Play store, it will help you alot! I've read that some accommodations provide an public transportation ticket to guests, but I think this one doesn't. The bus tickets are still quite cheap (1.50€-2€ depending where you are heading). Room was amazing, especially the view from the balcony in the morning was spectacular. There is no fridge or a TV in the room, but I wasn't bothered by that. Breakfast was also pretty good, I think it consisted mostly of local products. What a great place and beautiful scenery around the property, I will be back with a motorbike or a car for sure.
Cons: Not the most ideal place for a person without a car or motorbike. The accommodation does not provide the free public transportation pass as far as I'm aware of.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved EVERYTHING about this place and only wish I'd booked to stay longer. Miriam the host is a most friendly gracious lady and really made me feel so at home. She goes out of her way to ensure her premises and services are the best. This has to be the best place I stayed at during my 3 weeks in South Tyrol. The premises may be a little far-flung, but with your own transport, it's worth getting away from it all to this lovely location on the top of a hill in Laion. The premises have been renovated on the inside with really modern tasteful decor. The rooms are super comfy with a boutique feel. The toiletries provided are a notch above the usual. Even for the lovely breakfast, you can see they go the extra mile. It was the only place I stayed at that served a generous helping of smoked salmon! And all this for an extremely reasonable price. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great view. Very nice host. Clean room, comfortable bed. Guest-friendly details. Reasonable price. Good breakfast. Everything is perfect! No. 351 bus to Ortisei runs every hour, so you can go and come very easily between Ortisei and the hotel in 20 minutes. I plan to be back there in winter.
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The place was very warm and that was amazing after a cold day :) The shower was just amazing, the room, the cleanliness, helpful staff and the food was the best! Simply, it was simple and very well cooked, I mean, everything just perfect.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Modern building, furniture quality, nice view from balcony, quite place
Cons: Beds quality can be improved

Pros: Breakfast was wonderful. Very nice selection of food and very attentive, friendly kitchen staff. Location is very convenient if you plan to travel by local bus which is right outside the back of the property. Beatrix at front desk is incredibly helpful and friendly. She went out of her way to assist us with a problem we had with Telepass while driving the Autostrada.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a beautiful frescoed building just cobblestones steps from the village square and iconic clock tower. The inside of the hotel was very clean and quaint with a Tyrollean feel to it. Our room was very large by European standards with a king bed, a built in table and bench, a good sized bath and a balcony with a great view of the mountains. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was very good - European buffet style. The hotel has a bar/gathering area with cafe and other beverages. At night it becomes a self-serve honor system gathering spot. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the manager Beatrice. There are many other hotels and guesthouses in the area that look wonderful. However, if we’re ever lucky enough to visit the Village of Castelrotto again, we would stay here at zum Wolf. It was delightful!
Cons: The only thing I would choose would be to have ice available.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Zum Wolf was awesome! From the moment we got there, the staff was great. Especially the lady at the desk who took the time to walk me out and show me where to park. She helped us with every question we had about exploring Castelrotto and greeted us with a smile each time. The room was clean, comfortable and quaint with beautiful wood work. The lounge area was beautiful and had everything you would want including a full on cappuccino machine, wine and snacks. The breakfasts were sensational with a huge variety of great food. The location of this historic hotel is perfect and nearby restaurants and market are just steps away. A free bus pass with your stay takes you to the Alpi di Suisi which is also close. Just can’t say enough about this fantastic place!!!

The helpfulness of the staff was top notch, they had lots of information on local attractions and filled any need we had. Their breakfast selection is diverse and delicious, their cappuccino is perfect. Down the road is lots of quality shopping and dining. The spas decor looked Greek and it had many different services we took full advantage of. This place is 100% a hidden gem and we most definitely will be returning.

Pros: Everything was great and the spa was fabulous. Excellent choice of food at breakfast. The rooms were bright and spacious.
Cons: Vegetarian options at dinner would be appreciated.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: This was our third visit to this hotel, and we had a very pleasant stay. Very clean, helpful staff, excellent service and very good food. The very best part is the rooftop pool where we spent our afternoon with bathing and drinks in the h sunshine. We went walking every day and Kastelruth is very well connected with Seiser Alm and Val Gardena by buses. We can really recommend this hotel.
Cons: Wifi is slow.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It was a very nice property! Wonderful breakfast Buffett!!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and nice. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, specially the young lady in reception and the lady in the breakfast service. The SPA was sooo good (if you do not mind being naked in front of other people). The terrace pool was a nice perk. I was very impressed with the breakfast selection, one of the best selections of fruits, breads and cereals and really nice coffee.
Cons: I did not find the bed very comfy but might be my personal taste. It is a expensive hotel however you get excellent service and perks like a cake buffet, so I guess you get what you are paying for.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: New(ish) property. Nice rooftop pool, good restaurant and beautiful bar. Front Office staff was very friendly, restaurant staff could have been a bit more attentive.
Cons: Due to the location of the property, the views are limited. Our (upgraded) room faced a supermarket, that started to receive truck deliveries at 7am each morning.
6,0 Good
Pros: The position, the building and hotel facilities are superb. The roof top swimming pool is great! Surrounding area is a pearl on the mountains. The little village of Castelrotto is very pleasant.
Cons: Just a little advice for guests. We had to pay for toll-free numbers calls (sic!), it's about 50 Euro cents/minute from room. Should you leave the hotel before end of booking, you'll be requested to pay the full stay. Clean room but not super-shining.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We love everything about this hotel. It is clean, the food in the restaurant is amazing, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, the views are breath taking and the rooms are perfect.
Cons: Not a thing. We have stayed here before and will keep coming back. We miss it already.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The food was great, the SPA area was beautiful. The room was clean and had everything we needed even though ours was very small.
Cons: Since it's a romantic hotel I believe that it should be adult only hotel. The relaxing room by the inner pool was not so much relaxing when there were children playing and screaming (not blaming the children, that's what they do). That's my only complaint.

Pros: Our room had a balcony overlooking 'The Schliern': a mountain with a particular significance to the local inhabitants. The hotel also provided us with free access to the local buses and the nearby chairlift. This was particularly appreciated as it facilitated our walks in the very hot weather
Cons: Dinner is available at a very reasonable price of 15 euros per person. The portions are substantial but the food lacks individuality. However, if the B&B option is chosen initially, guests are able decide whether or not to take the dinner on a daily basis.

Pros: The location of the Hotel is absolut great. Room we stayed was very beautiful. Beds very comfy and size of the room was perfect. Interior very nice with a lot of wood. Easy check in with car parking in the garage. Nice garden and pool area. Sauna is also very nice.
Cons: We at least cannot recommend rooms In building where also the restaurant is located as it was too smelly from the kitchen when we opened our window and entrance for suppliers was also just below the balcony which was too noisy in the morning. Quality of food was average.

Pros: The hotel is very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. Frau Judith and her husband go out of their way to accommodate us. I don’t eat meat, so Frau Judith always make sure I have plenty of options to choose from.
Cons: Everything was perfect only the Hotel is a little remote and walking is limited.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very big room, clean bathroom, and comfortable bed. Big parking near the hotel for approx 15-20 cars. Close to the Dolomites and St. Magdalena. Average view from the balcony as for the Dolomites but anyway quite good. You can buy water in glass here to go (not in every hotel and restaurant in Italy you can do that). Really good and tasty options for lunch!
Cons: Hotel is located just on the road and it's quite loud here. It was really hot and air conditioning didn't work well. Refrigerator didn't work. I waited for my lunch for 40 min :(

7,5 Good
Pros: Wonderfully restored historic hotel in the very heart of the cosy mountain village Castelrotto. We loved the minimalistic style combined with the cosyness, warmth and comfort of a true mountain resort hotel. The architect is a genius!!! The suite room was pretty small but hat a fantastic view (and balcony) facing the main square with the church. We loved our room: The beds and down duvets were super comfortable, the furniture exquisite, the colors, fabrics and materials were just perfect. The wellness area is one of most beautiful we have ever seen, it is not too big (fits the size of the hotel), but everything is spot on. The views from there are amazing in all directions - we actually did not want to leave this heaven of peace and relaxation.
Cons: as much as we loved the structure and amenities of this place, we were disappointed about the entire service, especially in the restaurant. Given the pretty high price (we paid much less via booking, compared to the quote when we called them), we would have expected impeccable service throughout the entire structure. The welcoming in the restaurant was pretty disturbing: the restaurant manager told us that we only had breakfast included so they don't have a table for us -- when pointing out that we booked half board, they told us that this is impossible as we reserved through booking.com; we actually had to prove that we had half board, and it took some embarrassing time standing there, the unwanted guests..... Same story next day at breakfast, no table prepared for us, and the selection of the breakfast - given that this was supposed to be almost a gourmet restaurant - was disappointing. There was no bread selection at all (as in the evening), and the rest was pretty standard for a 4*S resort (we have seen much better in the same area). Quality of food (esp. at dinner) was as expected, but if you want to eat big portions, better order from the standard menu... (they serve typical south Tyrollean dishes on request, very good)... overall we found that we missed the feeling that this is a privately owned and managed structure. WE never saw the owner, which is unusual for those kind of boutique hotels in the Alpine region. Also the girls at the reception were not really informed (although very kind), they sent us with the car into the next villages to rent bikes, while the entire town is full of excellent rentals... so - if they get their Services up to the level of the structure, they will get 5* from us...

Pros: Very nice B&B in a centuries old monument right next to the cows! (It's a working farm as well.) Very friendly host, comfortable room and a good breakfast. We liked the sunny and shady garden with sun beds very much. Our host knew a lot about the surroundings. Very quiet and a good and cheap restaurant right across the street.
Cons: No elevator since it's a monument.

Pros: The hotel is very unique, loved how they preserved the original building. It's just absolutely beautiful. The sauna and steam rooms were lovely also. Close to Val Gardena for skiing! Fun to see the animals as it is an Agriturismo. Educational for the children.

Pros: Really liked the way the historical building was restored and decorated, combining old with new, maintaining some aspects that remember about the family's tradition. Plenty of choices for breakfast. The host is very helpful in providing information about the area.
