Overview Reviews
Located on one of the most impressive beaches of the Caribbean and surrounded by the legendary beauty of the Riviera Maya, the Barceló Maya Palace 5-star hotel is a spectacular luxury resort with exclusive services.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
9,2 Excellent
Cons: Somewhat remote. Expensive to take any day trips
7,9 Good
Pros: Everything was very good
Cons: The check in process. Too long and didn’t recognize the price I had with the booking I did with you. Had to pay extra
6,5 Good
Pros: The food was pretty good. The staff were nice.
Cons: The inability to get reservations at a reasonable time, especially when your friends would tell you there were many empty tables.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The food, location, beach
Cons: The entertainment could be better. The singers were so so.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Quality and range of food and drinks, cleanliness, size of room, resort facilities were all excellent. The food in the French a la carte restaurant was amazing! The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The biggest positive though was the beautiful beach, with coral reef within easy swimming distance, loads of fish to spot, and a group of visiting turtles!
Cons: Housekeeping seemed a bit random, with the door cards resetting a couple of times, and a dressing gown disappearing. These are very minor niggles though.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The VIP Level at the Palace was extraordinarily good! Food was fantastic! Loved every second!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, beach. Food.
Cons: I think the entertainment shows could be improved.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - Friendliness of Staff - Quality of Food at the buffets - Excellent snorkeling and swimming with turtles
Cons: - A la carte restaurants - Spring breakers - way too many loud and obnoxious spring breakers here - avoid March and April!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were very impressed with the cleanliness, food options, beach and pools. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We felt very safe at the resort. This was our 2nd visit and we will be returning.
Cons: We prescheduled and prepaid 4 snorkeling excursions with Dressel Divers which are listed on Barcelo's website. We went on 2 trips, both taking us off location by bus and took way too long for travel (11 hours for only 3 hours of water time with a guide who could have cared less about us) and the sites were not impressive. We were very sorry that we did not know to access higher quality trips with Barcelo's Guest Services.
7,1 Good
Pros: The facilities are awesome. Great Beach, Bars, Restaurants, and Pools. Kids had a blast.
Cons: The staff at the front desk and premium desk were horrible. Not friendly and not helpful at all. For such a nice, luxury hotel this is unacceptable. We also experienced unhappy staff at some of the outdoor bars and of all people the girl handing out the towels. If you don't get a dinner reservation which at times is difficult even though the restaurants are never full (funny because you try to book a reservation at a prime time, the staff says they are completely booked), you have to suffer through the awful dinner buffet. The entire management staff at this hotel should be fired or retrained on how to be helpful and polite.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Clean ,good food at the restaurants Nice beaches
Cons: Too many things in extra charge

Pros: The staff, the food, the room and the pools
Cons: The beach. The infinity pool bar closes a little soon.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was so great! Will be back!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: TRS Yucatan is a luxurious resort for a really great value. Most of the staffs are very helpful and the amount of entertainment option they have is incredible. Also, while staying in TRS you can also experience other restaurants or activities from other Palladium hotel groups, however from my experience generally the service offered in TRS is far more superior than the other resorts. Their private butlers are really helpful and their restaurants and room service menus are also great quality.
Cons: Check-in and check-out process wasn’t really smooth for me. I had to check in twice during my stay, and first time the receptionist forgot to inform us if the room is ready for check in and we weren’t given a bracelet (resort pass) until 3 hours after the check in time, so we couldn’t do any activities on the first day. Second time, the receptionist asked me to show the receipt for payment (I’ve paid for the entire stay the night before), apparently their system does not show if a client have already paid for the stay or not and he couldn’t find a copy of receipt or the documents I signed the previous day, so I had to sign another copy of their documents. Also, their mobile app to call the drivers for golf cart ride does not work.

Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Cons: too big
8,0 Excellent
Pros: we liked that the Heaven accepted our reservation for the entire 5 day stay.
Cons: the choices of top shelf tequila. We did not like the food selection for lunch, the only food service was the outside pool bar or room service. We found out the room service was a better choice.
7,1 Good
Pros: Walking in the lobby blows you away, stunning space. This was our last stop on our honeymoon so We paid for a room with a roof terrace and jacuzzi, the room was absolutely amazing. I can’t fault the room at all. The staff were also all lovely and helpful.
Cons: The heaven section pool area was like one huge frat party - drunk people there all day very loud music. Nowhere really to go for a quiet swim and sunbathe. Food was ok - nothing special just buffets in every restaurant. Had room service lunch and no one came to take the plates away. I called at 7pm and they said someone would be right up - we left the plates outside and we’re awoken at 4am to animals scratting around the plates that were still there. Would not stay again.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It was beautiful and there were many pools and "beaches" to choose from.
Cons: Nothing stood out as outstanding.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Almost everything... Well, the hotel and grounds were absolutely stunning - both Heaven and Hacienda. Lovely greenery, great pool area with a swim up bar and a number of beaches in both parts of the hotel. We stayed in Heaven, adults only and sheer luxury. Upon arrival to our ‘Diamond Premier Suite’ room, we found a large king size bed, jacuzzi bath in the room and a waterfall shower before being shown to the balcony which had a sea view with a seating area and hammock. The room however, had a terrible damp smell, the floor was full of condensation and the lampshades had mould on them - being asthmatic, this obviously done my chest no favours. It took 2 days for us to be changed rooms, to the same room with a better smell. The pool area was lovely, great entertainment team and music to suit all preferences - this however, was slightly too loud - meaning if you wanted to relax you had no option but to head to the beach. We ate in Ciao, Zen and Le Petit Cochin and WOW - absolutely outstanding meals, service and atmosphere with live musicians playing in Ciao and Teppanyaki shows in Zen. Across the whole hotel from bell boys, pool staff, waiters, entertainment team the service was nothing short of exceptional - we tipped each waiter who served us $1 per day and we were treat like complete royalty. The spa was OK, but definitely not as grand as I expected considering I had read on the website that it was ‘the biggest spa in the Caribbean’ - you also had to book a treatment to gain access to the spa itself, so this is not available to all residents.
Cons: In terms of the Limitless All Inclusive - don’t be fooled. It’s not all it is advertised to be. They advertise that you receive a fee for only 25% of the cost of anything you pay for through the hotel. We booked a trip to swim with Dolphins for $400 which we received the discount for - but then had to pay for a transfer with no discount and also extras when we arrived to the excursion. I had a treatment in the spa which was lovely, and the therapist was fab - she offered me a sheet face mask which in the UK can be purchased for 50pence - she proceeded to charge me $15 dollars for this (NOT INCLUDED IN LIMITLESS ALL INCLUSIVE). Then, I decided to head to the beauty salon to get two scalp plaits in my hair - the menu in the salon classed this as a half head braid priced at $48, meaning with the LAI it would be $12, a reasonable amount for the 15 minute job of putting two plaits in my hair tied with two elastic bands. Upon checkout today, it was brought to my attention that I was to be charged $48 dollars for the scalp plaits as the braiding treatments weren’t actually included in the L.A.I - after I’d been advised all treatments were included. I spoke to the supervisor who to be honest, was no help whatsoever and I ended up paying the full $48 for something which would cost £10 maximum in the UK.

Pros: Rooms were very clean, surrounding area was beautiful with lots of animals out (even saw some spider monkeys!). Also close to alot of restaurants/bars in the area. Host was super attentive!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness, spotless in every room and common area. Very relaxed laid back atmosphere. Sonia and Alberto were helpful and very interesting. Excellent breakfast, scrambled eggs perfect!
Cons: Instant coffee
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great here at the hotel.
Cons: One should realize that this bed and breakfast is inside a gated community. I did not really like the Gated Community or the beach that was there. This is not the fault of the hotel at all.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and safe area. Nice room in a villa with very tasty breakfast. One of best places in Yucatan for a reasonably price.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable rooms in very safe and quite area, but close to restaurants, shops and the beach. Great connection to go around for trips (also with the bus or " collectivos") . The owner are very helpful and friendly.
6,7 Good
Pros: I thought the house was very nice and the yard looks nice but due to the party next door, I couldn't even go outside and read my book in peace. I'm sure when it's quiet in the neighborhood the backyard is absolutely fabulous to just hang out by the pool. It was actually hard to try to take a nap in my room because of all the noise. my purpose of going to that place was to catch up on some well-needed rest and I left being more tired than when I got there.
Cons: There was a birthday party for kids next door which wasn't the owner's fault but definitely was not relaxing at all! The bed was very uncomfortable and I was hoping to get a comfortable bed for the night. It is located in a gated community where they keep dolphins and seals in captivity for entertainment for the guests that stay there. That was very disturbing and upsetting. I would not like to participate in a community like that again. I have Celiac so I wasn't able to eat any of the breakfast she provided except for the eggs. Was a little bummed that I couldn't have a nice enjoyable breakfast seeing that the place was a bed and breakfast. They should provide some alternatives for people who have dietary issues or ask about their dietary issues before they come stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous: Sonya and Alberto are the owners and their very beautiful villa. One must really go there to fully experience and appreciate their efforts of accommodating their guests!
Cons: My visit of two nights was way too short......especially heading back to winter conditions on the East Coast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was perfect. The hosts made us decilious breakfast both days. They say and helped us with ideas of where to go for dinner and sight seeing. So incredibly helpful and kind! We would def stay there again!
Cons: It was perfect!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The owners are friendly and helpful. The shared breakfast table made it easy to interact with fellow guests which was interesting and enjoyable. There was a wider range of shops and restaurants on the site than we had anticipated.

Pros: Everything most of all quiet place

Pros: We are never disappointed with the Hard Rock All-Inclusives- loved the rooftop jacuzzi, fresh food with lots of options, good drinks, friendly wait staff (Jesus at the poolside area was particularly great). We felt safe and comfortable and knew we would be well-taken care of.
Cons: You have to know it’s more than an hour from the Cancun airport (but close to Tulum and some great snorkeling). Wish the Heaven (adults-only) side was bigger, as we had to get a room in the family side of the resort since Heaven sells out faster. But we love that there are adults-only pools and beaches (and restaurants) so we don’t have to listen to crying kids when we want to have some quiet time.

Pros: Tons of kids friendly entertainment, kids everywhere. Kids buffet, kids friendly meals, gelato at coffee shops. Great family vacation spot!
Cons: Room has two beds but it was only two double, wish it was queen. Buffet tends to run out of foods. Pool bar service is very slow and never come.

Cons: Food was good although after a few days, it got repetitive. They should have an Indian restaurant - people would love that.

Pros: Staff was very friendly. Property had lots of security. Food was amazing.
7,5 Good
Pros: The breakfasts were excellent, service was stellar , it was overall great and I will return
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed the location and facilities. Very clean and safe. The breakfast was sufficient for what we need. Staff was friendly and efficient. Room was clean and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful facility. Staff surprised my wife on the morning of her birthday with a small cake with our coffee in the room. Was very nice !
Cons: Some language barriers but was always able to communicate what was needed with my limited Spanish. Even though most rooms were occupied, did not see other guests utilize the facilities, so not sure if the staff would be able to handle a increase of requests from guests. Pool filter seemed to not be working quite right, so the pool was a little cloudy. Maintenance was working to fix the issue the day we were leaving.

Pros: Perfect location right on the beach. Perfect size hotel!
Cons: Could use umbrellas around pool area for shade!
7,5 Good
Pros: Essentials in the room were updated such as the bed, air conditioning unit, tv and fixtures.
Cons: Property was built in the 70s and despite how well maintained it is, there is age that shows. The hot tub in the room was unusable, dirty and the lining was coming up. Lastly, the restaurant had an infestation of mosquitos and every time I ate there I came out with 5 new bites.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful property, great service, very relaxing. The rooms were big and clean and we even had a jacuzzi on our balcony.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Complimentary Breakfast offered was not upto the mark. However, you can spend an additional 50 pesos and they will offer you a full breakfast which is decent. Beaches are lush and good vibes all over. Rooms are old and the entire hotel is a lil' dated! Room service is good.
Cons: I booked this room using booking.com and paid in full (in advance). However, when I visited the place after a long flight to check-in, I was been told by the receptionist that I had to pay to the resort. I argued that it was all paid in full but she didnt listen. I made her check the records. Nevertheless, she was adamant that I have to pay for check-in. With no other option available, I paid in full and checked into the room. After contacting booking.com and lots of phone calls, front office agreed 2 days later that they made a mistake. However, they couldnt fix it and refund the money immediately as their card machine doesnt do that! After 4 days of nightmare and multiple visits to front office, I got $929 refunded from them directly into my check-in account. Neither they were apologetic nor they were concerned.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Clean and very quiet. Relaxing. Best resort area. Safe.
Cons: The ice machine broke
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It could have had included something more than breads and fruit. Cereal options, something with protein would have been better.

Pros: This was my second time staying here. The people are the best! Super clean and always something to do.
6,8 Good
Pros: You can't possibly find nicer people. The staff is extremely friendly and as accommodating as possible. Great atmosphere for families, or with a significant other -definitely not for you if you are single. Beautiful location and maintained pretty well. Great poolside bartenders!
Cons: Resort almost completely shuts down by 10pm no matter what night of the week. Found ourselves bored which is unfortunate considering we chose this place due to the amount of activities and what we thought would be nightlife. The food was horrible. At every restaurant....even with the privilege option. Good value, great location and people but wouldn't return due to the food.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked that we got the signature upgrade through booking.com If it wasn’t for the upgrade probably wouldn’t have liked it much.
Cons: I only didn’t like that booking.com gave me a price. And I agreed and booked. But when I arrived, the receptionist tried to charge me more. She made a call to her manager to verify. And I understand Spanish. And just didn’t like her tone about the price. Felt like they were trying to take advantage of me.
5,0 Okay
Pros: resort location excellent. good room size and comfy bed. en-suite good. having the beach and inlet/cove to swim in. lovely gardens and grounds. the speciality restaurants were good.
Cons: airconditioning in room could not be adjusted and was too cold. buffet food was never hot only luke warm or cold. coffee was always only served lukewarm. people were allowed to smoke in pools and also in bar near reception and the smell was everywhere! drink waiters were hit and miss, had to go to bars ourselves for orders most times. crepe/pancake bar near pool sounded great, but the pancakes once again were never cooked fresh and were always cold!!! burgers cooked at poolside bbq were undercooked.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Clean Layout Extremely friendly staff
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The non-buffet restaurants in the premium package were fantastic and the wine was too. Staff were all fantastic! Cleaners made little towel animals for my baby after we started tipping. Nice pools and beach.
Cons: The rooms are quite dated and the beds not so comfortable, but perfectly adequate. Felt like things were being patched up a bit around the resort, rather than upgrading.
6,0 Good
Pros: Walk up to any bar and get a drink (well of course, top shelf extra) FOR FREE! Well, it's included.
Cons: Needed more dedicated adults only sections/pools.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!!
9,1 Excellent
Pros: The Resort was GREAT! Plenty of food and drink. There are many restaurants to choose from and wide variety of foods. The buffets were good, plenty of selections. The five specialty restaurants were very good with the Tapas at the top of the list for us. The staff... WOW!! they were GREAT. Very friendly and helpful. The And there were bars everywhere to satisfy your thirst.
Cons: The wifi was spotty. And the beach was very rocky. You needed water shoes to get in without hurting your feet. There are only a few spots without the rocks.
6,3 Good
Pros: The Ayami Japanese restaurant
Cons: They push a little too hard to sell you their membership. Food wasn't too great. Id
7,9 Good
Pros: Very friendly, attentive staff, good breakfast buffet, pool.
Cons: They were rude when I told them I didn’t want to meet to discuss an exclusive membership. They ask people when they arrive when they want to meet the next day for “an exclusive breakfast and tour of the resort.” What they don’t say is that they will ruthlessly harass you for hours to spend thousands for an exclusive membership, which sounds like time shares. Very off putting, very rude. We had already paid money and wanted to relax on our vacation, not deal with shady sales people/tactics. I believe Celia was the name of the “concierge” team member who was very rude to me when I told her we didn’t want to meet. She tried to make me feel guilty but I have been through this at another Catalonia resort and I know what the exclusive breakfast is all about. Really, Catalonia is a great resort but they really need to stop harassing their guests with these veiled attempts to sell memberships. Other then that, the resort had great staff who were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The resort is more rundown then Royal Tulum but it is also older and they appear to be in process of remodeling. There are kids at the resort but most were well behaved and stayed near their parents by the pool. The ocean was rocky, making it difficult to get into the water. There was sargassum that was cleaned from the beach every morning but added a touch of brown murkiness to the clear Caribbean blue water. Food was decent but not great. My husband and I are foodies that are used to a lot of phenomenal restaurants at home so our standards might be higher than some. Soap scum and cockroaches in the bathroom.

Pros: Variety of restaurants. There was an adult poolside.
Cons: The beach had too much seaweed. They played elevator music on the adult pool side and wouldn't change it.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The staff was great for what they had to work with. They did the best they could do.
Cons: The smell was horrendous. The furnishing either need to be upgraded or cleaned (i.e. The lampshade in the room had stains all over it). It may have been the wrong time of year but the beach was covered with seaweed and it was closed. Not good when you're going some place that shows photos of beautiful beaches.

Pros: I liked the entertainment at the theater and the live performances at the lobby. I had a great time!

Our favourite was the Mexican restaurant, ask for Oscar and order the Mayan coffees.

Pros: Services and staff are an exceptional. We had a wedding Vow Renewal at the Hotel. They upgraded a room and gave us special surprise gifts. Spa treatment is an awesome too. We had a couple massage and their therapists is better than high-end hotel in states.
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Almost everything was wonderful. Centre tour and massages were great!
Cons: Beach isn’t great but pools make up for it! And I’m a beach person. Read that others complained about music at pool but they must have fixed that because the music was super faint and really inoffensive and pleasant.
