Palenque hotels

Pros: The hotel staff was amazing, very courteous and inviting. The owner was very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and helpful with travel tips! Vicinity to Palenque ruins was awesome, and the decor, room, and food were amazing! I would recommend and definitely stay here again if we come back!

Pros: Beautiful pool area and pond with some interesting wildlife. Staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help you. The bed was very comfortable. Very roomy rooms and beautiful porch with seating area. The owner was very interesting and informative. Food is very good.

Cons: Light switches in room were complicated but eventually figured What went with which light. The salads were not very interesting. Next to a cow past year which was interesting but a little strange. It didn’t smell or anything and there were some cowboys there at one point which was fun.

Pros: It was one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept on. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very helpful.

Pros: What a beautiful hotel in the middle of the jungle! You can tell the owner took time to make this a resort where both people and animals come to relax (a family of howler monkeys lives in the backyard of this hotel!!!). It really gave us the jungle experience we were looking for (didn't take a jungle tour at the archeological site anymore because the hotel is located in the middle of the jungle and wildlife can be seen around the hotel). The staff could speak proper English (something you don't see everywhere in Mexico) and they gave us bananas whenever we wanted to feed the howler monkeys. The room was amazing, very spacious and luxurious. Would love to have that shower at home! Also very clean. Especially for the owner: wir haben die Deutsche gründlichkeit wirklich bemerkt bei euch. Vielen dank für diese wundervolle Erfahrung! Sie können stolz sein auf was Sie hier gemacht haben!

Cons: Palenque itself isn't that interesting (the city centre I mean). So if you want to see the archeological site and the jungle, see howler monkeys closeby and other animals like macaw parrots flying over and relax at a beautiful pool, then you should really stay in this hotel. Nothing bad to say about the hotel. Trust me: it's worth every penny!

Pros: If you get a chance to come to Palenque, sta y here. Unique, and makes you feel relaxed, pampered and as if you are the only guest. Food is wonderful and their staff is very special.

Pros: Well located. In the middle of “La Cañada” where the most of the hotels for tourist are. 10 minutes walking from city center. 8 KM from the ancient ruins of Palenque. You can take a taxi, it will cost 100$ Mexican pesos. It is a good place for one night if you are coming to Palenque to visit the archeological area.

Cons: There were too many people at the swimming pool, staff at reception was not always kindly and they did not know a lot of things about questions that I was asking.

Pros: Amazing location within a very short driving distance of the Palenque ruins. Beautiful property with pool overlooking the forest – beautiful to wake up to the sounds of Scarlet Macaws and howler monkeys! The room was deluxe, spacious, sparkling clean, and AC worked like a dream (very welcome in the strong heat and humidity). Staff were friendly and helpful, and I especially enjoyed conversations with the outgoing chef. Breakfast (in the realm of $5) was really tasty – I definitely recommend the ice-cold juice, strong coffee, and delicious tamales and chilaquiles. And, as a bonus, filtered water is available free on-site for guests. Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Casa Lakyum. Just a friendly reminder: the Palenque-area seems to have a higher density of scorpions than other areas in the lowland jungle of Chiapas. Always remember to check inside clothes and shoes before putting them on, especially first thing in the morning!

Pros: Nice facilities and welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent value for money. The view from the terrace is breathtaking and the atmosphere is peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was amazing.

Pros: Location was amazing inside the jungle. You can hear the voice of hawler monkeys, watch the beautiful birds and ants. It is very close to Palenque ruins, 5 minute ride with collectivos.

Cons: If you don’t know Spanish, it will be really difficult to communicate. Staff is doing their best but I think, there should be more than one person who knows at least basic English.

Pros: Amazing view on the jungle from the breakfast terrasse or the swimming pool. A 60’s legacy charming hotel which is perfectly located for visiting the ruins and enjoying the nature. The jungle sounds ambiance at sunrise and sunset are peaceful. Good breakfast and very kind personnel.

Pros: The room was big with 2 beds so it was perfect for us. The view on the jungle is quite impressive. The hotel was almost empty so we were not bothered with any noise! Near Palenque ruins

Cons: No mosquito nets. We had a terrace but it was dirty. The pool was not really cleaned. It almost felt like an abandoned hotel ... I think it could be an amazing place / or it used to be but efforts need to be made.

Pros: Food in restaurant is great. Ate all my meals there and all were fantastic. Staff were very friendly, even security staff, wait staff were fantastic. Very well maintained, very clean and pretty quiet. Only about 2 km from the ruins. Very easy to get up eat and go to the ruins.

Cons: The restaurant food was terrible and we didn't get what we ordered for breakfast. Both meals, chilaquiles and bfast burrito were missing eggs! Potato was uncooked. We paid top dollar for this bfast and it was incomplete and substandard. Dinner was not good either. We paid for a taxi into town for our other meals. The bed was rock hard and very uncomfortable. There was hardly anyone staying at the resort yet they decided to put us in a room close to reception so when the power went out during the storm in the middle of the night we were so close to the extremely loud generator that kept us awake. It didn't even turn the aircon/ power back on so it was really hot. Then to top that off they decided that 8.30am was a good time to start mowing right outside our room. It is a huge resort but they mowed directly at the front of our room! They also mowed the morning before so we could not sleep in that day either. We were quoted 400 pesos for an airport taxi by reception to find out the going rate is only 200 pesos so we organized our own taxi. The service was very slow and we felt uncomfortable in the restaurant like cd we were ordering the wrong things.

Pros: The staff were exceptionally courteous, friendly and extremely helpful when we needed something. The hotel grounds invite you to relax and enjoy nature. Food at the restaurant was very delicious. We love everything of this hotel.

Pros: It is a great option to stay in Palenque. Food is very good, pool is handy due to the hot weather, and staff are very friendly. It is well located, very close to the ruins, and is 10 minutes by car away from the town center.

Pros: Very close to the ruins with wonderful grounds, a lovely swimming pool, and surrounded by jungle and beautiful birds. The setting is fantastic and a great place to relax after the Palenque ruins. Big restaurant with fair range for evening meal. We didn’t have breakfast.

Cons: Staff is extremely unfriendly. They cannot speak a word of English. Check in with a huge queue when we asked for late checkout they impulse us to pay one more night. We asked the rules for extra payment and the staff says “It’s the law here and you are in Mexico.” We had travelled around Mexico for 10 days, never had such an unfriendly experience. The credit card machine wasn’t working neither, they asked us take cash from the center. Room was far up in the hill from reception no car service to drop the luggage.

Cons: The beds are not very comfortable. The small patio of our room was not very clean and with no chairs therefore quite unusable. No mosquito net.

Pros: I highly recommend staying here, so relaxing and beautiful surroundings, lovely hearing the sounds of the birds and monkeys in the mornings and evenings. Great breakfast buffet, friendly staff, restaurant and small convenience shop on site, clean rooms, hot shower, and only short distance in taxi to centre. Definitely stay here rather than in the centre - it's worth the money!

Cons: It did not allow guests and I was charged about 20 dollars more than the price advertised in Booking.

Cons: Our room (standard double plus) looked nothing like the ones on the photos. It was shabby and it could use some refreshing and thorough cleaning. There was no hair drier and the air conditioning was so loud we could barely sleep. The hotel restaurant was mediocre, we had to wait forever for food or to pay and at the end they tried to take us for a ride by adding stuff we didn’t order to our check. This place is not worth its price.

Pros: River and location near of the Palenque Archeological Zone

Pros: Had a very good location at the entrance of the national park. On the other side of the road is El Pachan for nice dinner. In the evening you will hear monkeys in the trees.

Cons: The pool was not very clean. The filtering machine didn't work?

Pros: Location in the jungle surrounded by animals, also close to the entrance of the ruins. Rooms are cleaned every day. Nice swimming pool but it isn’t refreshing because it’s located in the sun.

Cons: Recommendation: improve the restaurant. Most of the guests are going to the restaurant across the street because the food is better there. Would be more comfortable if there was an airconditioning in every room.

Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. The pool area was great to relax at. Great location right at the entrance to the national park.

Pros: The staff was very friendly during our whole stay, we also got the possibility to check in earlier. The pool and the whole Garden is amazing. The Location is very chillaxed in middle of the jungle. The Location is close to the temples and the parque Axules.

Pros: Great garden in the jungle with a nice little pool, although the exterior showers were much more refreshing!! Cabanas have huge fan. We could hear howlers monkeys on the evenings and mornings (4am jungle alarm clock). We also saw sereque nearby (Google it!). Super easy to go to the city or ruinas with the colectivos passing every 5 mins.

Cons: If you come out of the city to be in El Panchan, the one issue would be the food. Offer is very limited. The staff at the restaurant Reina Roja is super nice still but the food is below average. It's also true for other place around!

Pros: Absolutely amazing. Possibly the best place I have ever stayed as in as a backpacker. In the middle of the jungle surrounded by wildlife. Bridges, hammocks, the pool, the kitchen was a massive plus it was all just perfect!

Pros: I have been to Palenque 3 times and Kin Balam is the best place I have stayed. I would recommend it 100%. Its location, prices, facilities, cleanliness and staff are all superb and of great quality and professionalism. My gf and I just got engaged and we decided to celebrate it during the weekend, so we came to Palenque. Luckily, we found this place. It is located right in the natural reserve, so you will be surrounded by nature, you will listen to monkeys, parrots and you will enjoy a night full of stars. From the hotel you can go to the Palenque archeological site walking if you decide so (just 1.5 km). The facilities are really nice and they blend quite nicely with the nature. We stayed at a private cabin which was comfy and nice. You get what you need, specially by staying right in the jungle. Personally, I appreciated this and it allowed me to enjoy my stay and my vacations much more. It has many nice areas to enjoy your stay including a pool, hamacas and a fire. I did not use their wi-fi since I wanted to disconnect from the outside world, but I saw other guests using he internet, having skype conversations and social media. Their staff is very professional and apt. They all are friendly and helpful. You hardly notice them because they are very quite. The whole place is clean and tidy. Our cabin did not included private toilet/shower but we didn’t need one. The shared toilets/showers were always clean. Food was not included, but we had breakfast and dinner at their restaurant/bar. I really liked the food. The menu was straightforward and concise. Nothing pretentious. The food was really good (the hamburguer and the “caldo reina roja” were delicious). They have a happy hour, which is incredible after a long day of sighseeing. We enjoyed our beers next to the pool. Prices for food and drinks are fair.

Pros: The room was comfortable but the service was dreadful. Staff at reception was not welcoming, nor very professional. To give you an idea, our breakfast voucher was given to us when we checked out. The level of English of the reception staff was very poor and that created problems of communication. In the restaurant, staff was also not very professional as they seem to be anxious to get rid of guests at breakfast time. As soon as you had finished one dish they rushed to remove the plates or cups from the table. It would have been nice to enjoy my breakfast with some peace and quiet,

Pros: This is a very nice and comfortable hotel, less than 5 mins walk to the ADO bus terminal, and next to the cafes and restaurants. I arrived at the hotel at 8am and was able to go straight to the room with no extra charge, amazing. Staff are very very good, and the laundry service is efficient and cheap, would stay here again, no question.There is also a nice pool.

Pros: It was quiet and clean, really good location. The rooms were equipped with a coffee kit, and good number of towels. It’s great they have an environmental friendly policy - i chose to adhere to it as i don’t need to have my bed linen and towels washed everyday. The restaurant served affordable and great food, and the swimming pool was perfect to relax after spending the morning exploring the ruins.

Pros: I booked a room in the hotel on the basis of the good review it received and because of the location and the cultural experience I was hoping to receive. being a world travel and have already experienced different localities /hotels/ hostels/ resorts/ boutique hotels in Mexico. I must say that this hotel was the worst experience I had. I left my shoes to dry out on the terrace one day and the moment I realized that I lost it. I emailed and called the hotel and they said that they will look for it. once I retired to Chiapas after couple of days. they told me that they didn't find it. after making sure that I m serious about this shoe - not for its price but out of the principle that I dislike being robbed in a place that is full of cameras and in a place that is suppose to be respectful. they said that they will check the camera monitor during that day . after I returned in couple of days - they said they couldn't tell. - Maybe it was a ghost. that doesnt matter - what matters is that I will be returning to Chiapas in couple of days and will be filling a police claim in the hope that this hotel learns its lesson faster in the future. Pros: Room was quite big, with two comfortable beds. Good wifi and also good AC, but we couldn't turn it on during the night because it flew the cold air directly on us. Bathroom a little bit outdated, but with good water pressure

Pros: Excellent customer service. Hotel let me check in at 6am and have my room ready as requested. Location is excellent. I paid for the room on arrival but then needed the money to pay for a day excursion so the hotel let me have the money back till I changed currency and paid later in the night. Ever so kind and caring staff. Loved it!

Pros: I like the location. Palenque is small and there are many hotels around the area. There are hotels on the main shopping street. This hotel is 2 streets over. I like the room, it is big. The shower is strong. The air conditioner works fine but noisy but no complaint. I like the ceiling fan which offer respite from the heat. Drinking water was provided and it was helpful. The staff was nice . She tried her best to help and I appreciate that despite being overworked. I like the fresh towel every day and the garbage can emptied. The room was quiet. It was eerily quiet. I only saw a few guests there. There were no street noises.

Cons: The hotel said it provides breakfast but it takes too long. I was there at 7:30 hoping to eat something quick. There were 2 tables, a table with a couple and a table with a couple and a child. It took 10 to 15 minutes to serve the first table. By that time I ran out of time. I need to go to the archeological site before the heat . I didn’t fault the person who works there who by the way was the same reception that I saw the previous day at 2:30 pm and it was 29 hours and the same person serving breakfast. By the time I left the following morning at 7:30 am, I saw the same receptionist. She worked like 40 hours and more . I think the receptionist was overworked. They need to have more staff and let the receptionist rest and not have hours that was longer than an emergency room doctor or intern. The dining room was very small with maybe 5 small tables. The kitchen where the breakfast was prepared was ridiculously small. Because of the lousy service, the hotel is better off not offer any breakfast and lower the price instead. I saw hotels in the area for around the same price. The room has a view of a public area so no privacy. I have to keep the blind close at all time. The bed was high. I am 5 feet 8 inches and it is a bit difficult climbing to bed. There wasn’t any liquid soap to wash your hands. This is a low cost item. The room is not very well lit. There is only 1 overhead light and 1 desk lamp. Be careful with the staircase as on the last flight of step to the top floor, the first step is higher than the rest and I almost tripped. The internet doesn’t work well at all. It was fading in and out. Forgetting about streaming movies. Overall I feel that there are better hotels in the area and this one is not my favorite.

Pros: Breakfast is fantastic with the best coffee in town. I was told it’s organic and grown locally in Chiapas. The hotel owner and her son are extremely helpful, offering advice on restaurants and traveling to Tunina by public transportation.

Pros: Staff are incredibly friendly. We had an early check out (3am) and staff were incredibly accommodating and pre arranged a taxi for us. Large bedrooms, very comfy beds. Restaurant is a little on the pricey side but excellent service and delicious food, plus very understanding of our dietary requirements and really happy to help. Hotel is an easy 15 mins walk from the centre of palenque. Too far from the bus station to walk but very cheap taxis (30 pesos) so not a major problem.

Cons: Some of the facilities are a little tired, and the gym equipment was broken. Only one of the pools was in use and it was 31C so very warm and not as refreshing as we would have hoped!

Pros: It was definitely the best hotel I have been during my whole trip through Yucatán . Price comfort relation is absolutely fantastic .

Pros: awesome service, comfortable beds, great breakfast, good facilities and good value for money. This place exceeded our expectations based on what we paid. Would recommend staying here if in town for a few days.

Cons: located at the quiet end of town so needed to walk or taxi to a larger selection of bars and restaurants (only 40 pesos so not an issue). There are some good small local restaurants open for lunch but nothing for dinner in the area other than the hotel.

Cons: Shows just a little tear and wear I would say. No eating options in the hotel, but good restaurants close by. Private outdoor bath nice, but water did not get really hot. Value for money is OK but not outstanding.

Pros: Amazing eco hotel located very close to the pyramids, offering a delicious breakfast and beautiful decor. My partner and I enjoyed a relaxing couples massage and had our beautiful tub awaiting us upon our return to our room. My expectations were truly exceeded!

Pros: The hotel was lovely, surrounded by trees and the rooms was independent, so we weren't disturbed by noise. The room was lovely inside and it had an outdoor bath. The locally made shampoos, body washes etc. were a nice touch. The hotel was about halfway between the ruins and Palenque town. It didn't have a restaurant in site which meant we had to leave in order to have dinner. This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed in in Mexico.

Cons: We tried to contact the hotel a few days before arriving to try and and our booking but didn't receive a response. The breakfast wasn't very tasty.

Pros: Beautiful location within the green lush jungle. It is very calm and silent there. No music no loud people or kids. Very relaxing. At times you can listen to the nature and animals in the trees. The bathtub on the Terrasse is amazing. We had a room at the very end so we where completely alone and out of sight. Nice for taking a bath and enjoying the sunset through the jungle leaves. Very comfortable bed. Huge and good and clean blankets. Also a very big ventilator over the bed made a great job in not needing to use the AC. Although there was one too. Bathroom is very large and has good facilities. Everything has small details in decoration wich is nice. They niceley clean and tidy the room every day.

Cons: Not enough personell. It seems that only one guy does everything there. He was very nice and helpful but he can't do the job for usually many different people. If the pool was maintained and cleaned a little more it would have been even niceer. But I guess in the jungle that's pretty hard. A little English would be great for the staff. They don't speak a word though which makes it hard for non Spanish speakers I guess. (We can speak a little and people where always very nice and tried to help).

Pros: Clean, large rooms, airconditioned, there is a pool and parking and it’s close to a large super market. The staff is kind though the person at the reception did his best to speak English to us - he did not speak well enough to assist us with any questions or concerns (just beginner level English).

Cons: This Hotel could be nice and maybe it was once worth 4 stars. However, it is missing basic facilities and the level of attention you would expect from a hotel at this level. The rooms are very simple, bland and lack character and luxury. The beds are marketed as double beds but they are large single beds (120 cm in our room) so if you want to sleep comfortably be aware that it’s not suitable for more than 2 people (unfortunately for us, we were 3) the beds are also VERY hard. There is no lift or help with carrying your luggage and a lot of stairs. There is NO MINIBAR or fridge at the room. We went to the Chedraui to buy a coolbox and icecubes to keep our drinks cool. We reserved for 3 people, but got only 2 towels, 2 small bottles of water and 1 glass. there is only 1 chair in the room (thus lack of attention for details I was referring to). There is a balcony, but no chairs to sit and enjoy it. The internet is not secured and does not work properly most of the time. After cleaning our room, the dirty towels were taken away - but we had to wait over 2 hours for fresh towels (we discovered this after we got back from the pool and wanted to take a shower). When we called reception - we were told that our towels are in the dryer and we will get them in a few minutes (it took a couple of hours after the call to actually get new towels). The team also ignored the ‘do not disturb’ sign, and woke us up a couple of times. In short - if you are looking for a clean place to rest for a night, it’s ok. But if you expect any kind of special stay, or luxury you’d better look further. For this price there are better options in the area.

Pros: Hotel seemed like it had a good atmosphere. Our family did not stay in hotel long enough to enjoy the pool, which looked pretty inviting, fun. Everything was clean. We pretty much only spent the evenings there since we went on a couple of all-day tours. Staff was friendly. I would go back there again but this time enjoy all day relaxing stay in the hotel. There is a supermarket a couple of blocks away.

Cons: Hotel did not have a refrigerator nor coffee; used to this in the US; otherwise everything was great.

Also, we left our towels on the floor to be changed as they were dirty, but they were put back by the staff.

Cons: The location is inside a road that is no paved so buses don’t even go inside and taxis get too expensive to take that road. 2nd, I checked in at 5pm and The electricity went off at 7pm and didn’t come back up until I checked out the next day, We stayed in the dark the whole night, No Fan, no bathrooms, its a terrible experience and the management didn’t care at all, neither they offered anything to apologize for the inconvenience, the hotel is isolated so there are no restaurants close by so you are kind of enforced to by from them and their prices are so high. It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.

Pros: The area and the surroundings were awesome. Very much love in rustic-Style details. If you have a chance to stay here prefer staying in the cabins not in the house. Food is simple but tasty. Staff is nice.
