Pros: Perfect location to see all that Newport has to offer! Walking to the wharfs and it's partnership with The Chandler made for easy parking for the Cliff Walk. The breakfast was amazing! Paula the Inn Keeper went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a great one! She was very knowledgeable about the area and gave great tips as well as ensuring we had all that we needed.

Pros: Primarily the staff. From checking in and out to valets and restaurant staff, everyone was attentive and friendly. The building is beautiful with great sitting rooms, an outdoor patio for meals and an amazing rooftop deck with incredible views of the harbor. Our room was lovely with all the details addressed like robes and slippers, coffee maker and refrigerator, and comfy beds. We loved the location which was a block off the main street so perfect for walking everywhere.

Pros: From the moment we checked in to the time that we checked out everything was perfect. The accommodations were amazing, the staff was so friendly, and it was overall just a wonderful resort. All of our friends, that were staying elsewhere, wished that they stayed at our hotel. We really enjoyed the roof top bar as a group, it had amazing views and yummy cocktails. The pool was such a plus and the food was outstanding. I will definitely stay there again, it is worth every penny.

My mom and I were there for a late birthday getaway, and the amazing staff made it feel extra special! -Location is in the heart of downtown Newport - Champagne welcome a nice touch -The room was chic and had incredibly high ceilings - The spa pool was heated perfectly - Loved playing snooker in the game room over cocktails (luckily no one else was there because we were terrible and took forever!!) -Food: Can't say much since we mostly ate in town, but lunch was delightful (and all the dining areas are lovely)... The rooftop bar was closed due to weather but I bet it's happening on nice summer days - All staff members encountered from entry to exit were extraordinarily warm, personable and went out of their way to make the stay memorable!

Only elevator to room was a service elevator that regularly opened into kitchen.

Cons: I wish the room had been larger. The bathroom felt cramped. Sink and mirror were in the main room, instead of the bathroom. Not what we're used to, but then, it is an Inn (not a hotel). Public parking was available, across the street ($18 for 24 hours, if purchased through the inn, otherwise $30). But space is relatively limited, and if you choose a busy holiday weekend, as we did, there may be times when you return from the beach, or sightseeing, when you won't find a space available, and you have to sit and wait someone to leave (45 minutes for us, Saturday evening!

She was friendly, extremely hospitible, genuinely caring and concerned for our comfort and happiness throughout our entire stay. And not just with us as we noticed this interaction with all the guests. She and another chef made us breakfast to order each day which was absolutely delicious. The breakfast each day had so many options for an Inn this size. She took the time to show everyone on the map the highlights of the area and she was spot on. We can't express our appreciation and gratitude about Melissa.

Cons: Our room in particular was dull in style and tight in space. We happen to see a couple other rooms and they appeared more pleasant. Our bathroom was smaller than the smallest cruise ship we've been on and the shower so tiny it was impossible to shave legs. It wasn't the cleanest room. Lastly, with Newport showcasing beautiful, fresh flowers everywhere this time of year, I was surprised the Inn had a plethora of artificial flowers everywhere. It was unattractive and unnecessary.

The name of the inn had me expecting some period charm, but this is not how the inn is done at all - it is eclectic and inexpensively put together. The linens are of low quality, both on beds and towels. The furniture is IKEA, not what I expected at a bed and breakfast. The bed was uncomfortable - it sagged and my daughter could feel springs. My son's bed was hard and uncomfortable. There was one pillow per person. It just felt like a lower end hotel but it was not inexpensive.

Pros: We stayed one night and got upgraded to the king-size room. It had a king-size bed and a jacuzzi tub bath. While the room and bed were nice and spacious it could use more cleaning and dusting. Breakfast was excellent, though, and made our stay there worthwhile. We opted to go across the street to the sister property and had a sit-down breakfast (vs. a continental breakfast in the Inn). Had scrambled eggs, sausage and pancake and they had fresh-squeezed orange juice (so good). My husband had made-to-order omelette and it was delicious. They definitely use quality ingredients. They have a small parking lot but we ended up parking in a public lot two doors down, as overnight parking was free (just had to move the car before 9 AM). There was plenty of street parking in the morning. Very good location. We woke up early in the morning and walk around downtown Newport before everybody else was awake. The Wharf was probably a 5-minute walk. Lots of historic homes in the vicinity, it was very neat to walk around and discover them. I would recommend if it's your first time in Newport and for the breakfast and its central location.

Cons: We were upgraded to a king-size room and were informed the following morning it wasn't supposed to happen. We were made to feel almost guilty. Not a very nice way to treat your guests. (The Innkeeper told us we won the lotto when we got that room, the biggest in the Inn. I don't think so. We've gotten free upgrades much better than the room we got.) Also, our room was right by the kitchen. As we were coming out we said "good morning" to the gentleman helping to prepare breakfast and he did not even acknowledge us. Customer service could be improved. (With the exception of Otelia (sp?) who checked us in. She was very nice and helfpul.) You are in the hospitality business after all.

We had a private bathroom but was not convenient for us due to me having a cast on my foot. Was not even offered a first floor room for handicap accessibility.

Cons: The staff is friendly but seem a little disorganized. There is a lot "ask if you need anything" but when you do request something... then it seems it's too complicated. For example, we wanted an iced americano for room service, but were told "we don't do that"...yet, all it is is espresso (which they have on the menu) on ice. When we ordered the impossible burger upstairs at the bar, it took about half an hour to "locate" it and several people. Also, when we checked in we were told they were overbooked so they upgraded us to a Suite. No complaints there. Except that the suite had two bedrooms and two entrances...which makes me wonder why they gave us that room if they could have easily split that and used it for two bookings. Nice for us, but not needed. The pool is still pretty dated.

Cons: Check in was a little annoying, the room we had booked was no longer able to have an extra bed. They offered us an additional room at a discounted price. I was not going to pay for 2 rooms when they confirmed a month before 1 room would fit us all. We were then offered a blow up bed! we had to accept this but it never arrived, our 3 children aged 11-14 slept in 1 double bed, ridiculous for the price we were paying. To be fair after a long conversation they offered us free breakfast/dinner, however...when we went to bed, we discovered we had been given a room on the same level as the garden which had loud live music until 11am. The hotel should really think about what rooms they are providing to families and where they are located and also do not confirm a room can hold a family when it can't. It was too late for us to go elsewhere. We travelled the East Coast for 3 weeks and Viking was the only hotel that let us down, a shame.

I asked the front desk if a reservation was required. I was told no...just walk on up after 4pm. We planned to have dinner, drinks and watch the sunset. We took the elevator up only to find a sign saying that they were closed for a private function. The front desk SHOULD know theses things. To me this is not the special experience we’ve been so looking forward to. We wound up going off site for dinner which should not be what the hotel wants.

Cons: Our children could not swim. The temperature in the pool area, which is inside, was ~100 degrees. My wife and I were getting sick sitting in that room. Apparently the air conditioning was not working. Staff was very friendly, but they seemed overwhelmed all weekend. Not what I would expect from a hotel charging what they do per night.

Pros:
Cons: Luckily we have been to Newport many times so we were familiar with the area , which is good because no one asked us if we needed any help with things to do , map of town etc. From the moment we arrived the parking was a mess . We couldn’t even get into the entrance of the hotel . Organization and management were lacking the first and last day we visited . The front desk staff were friendly but not as helpful as other hotels we have visited .The bellman that helped us with our bags was very attentive .
