Pros: The location was excellent for the main tourist sites in Lucca. The hotel was quaint with its individually painted landscape murals. The room was large clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was essential given the August heat.Breakfast was an excellent buffet affair with lots of variety & continuously replenished. Staff were friendly & helpful.

Staff were very friendly and because we’d stayed we’d be bringing a travel cot for our baby they upgraded us to the annex so we’d have more room. Short wall to the wall and the pool was a welcome addition. Comfortable bed, good shower and AC. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant for dinner but does do light snacks. We arrived hot and tired on a Sunday after a wedding and the staff ordered pizza for us which was just what we needed. Really pleased with our stay!

Cons: The electricity and plumbing are old and don't work well. It was extremely hot and too loud to sleep with the window open. They said we couldn't turn on the air conditioning and didn't offer a fan. We were up all night hearing the people above us. The complimentary breakfast gave us food poisoning.

Pros: If you're planning a short trip to Lucca, I can recommend this hotel! I felt very comfortable here! The room was a dream, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom new and high quality and everything was very clean. The staff was very friendly. The choice for breakfast was also very big, you didn't miss anything. I also really liked the roof terrace. The location was more than perfect to explore Lucca. For excursions the train station was also only 10 minutes walk away, and bus stops were also close to the hotel. All in all, a couple of wonderful days in Lucca - not only because of the beautiful city, but also because of this very good hotel. You can also rent bicycles for free in the hotel! If I come back to Lucca, I'll stay at that hotel again.

Pros: The relative closeness to the city centre, shops and restaurants, all within walking distance of a 3 to 5 minute walk. Also from Reception to the Housemaid the staff couldn’t do enough for us. A very special thanks to Valentina at Reception who was exceptional, absolutely recommend this Hotel. We will definitely be back to book our reservation with Hotel Rex next year.

Cons: The bar was not as expected and closed at around midnight and there was no way for guests to get any service after this. Probably not an issue most of the time, but as we were here with friends for the summer music festival and returning to the hotel (over a half an hours walk) after the concert, we had expected to be able to sit and have a nightcap at the hotel. There is a bus service to/from Lucca with a stop near the hotel. However, this stops before 9pm so it is either a long walk or a taxi back. Restaurants can order the taxi and the service seems good. If arriving by train, it is worth noting that there is a bus from near the station almost to the hotel - more info could have been provided on this to save us the 30+ minute wait at the station for a taxi when we arrived. Some aspects were more basic than expected, especially as we had paid the extra for a suite - little things perhaps (eg styrofoam cups for coffee), but not as expected at that cost.

Pros: Villa Corte Degli Dei is a really pleasant little B&B just outside the city walls of Lucca- you can walk into town in 15 minutes. The whole place is done in a somewhat quirky/ lightly camp style. Some people may find the rooms a little dark but overall that just adds to the cozy atmosphere. In addition the hotel has a beautiful garden and pool where you can relax after exploring Lucca. The staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful. We would love to come back.

Pros: I really appreciate the atmosphere in this hotel. Very familiar and comfort! Delicious International breakfast with a very good coffee ! The rooms are very clean and cozy. the mattress is something very special: it let me have the best sleep ever ! The staff has deep knowledge of the city and help with any need!

Cons: There was no hot water for a shower in the evenings although this was fixed the second evening. It was ok in the mornings. The temperature in the room was a little cool and there definitely weren't enough covers on the bed, but there was an extra quilt in the wardrobe which was used.
