Pros: Had a lovely family night away here , two lovely hosts Paul and Sarah who went the extra mile to make us feel at home . Breakfast out of this world . Rooms beautiful , clean and very cosy lots of tea and coffee and biscuits
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property itself is historic and has a lot of character. The rooms are cozy with wood panels in the ceiling. My bedroom and bathroom were decorated with some very pleasant seaside-themed artwork. The bedroom was very quiet at night and the bed super comfy. The shower/toilet was narrow and very cute, with the shower a very comfortable size with plenty of hot water. The bedroom too was well-heated and easy to manage. WiFi worked well in the bedroom even though it was separate from the main building. My bedroom, being a little separate, had a sense of privacy about it.

Short stroll into centre of Castleton. Good bar but didn’t use. Good breakfast with choices. Booked this hotel for nights in April for a small group of ramblers.
Cons: 16 steepish steps to first floor. First 5 rooms. Another 14 steps to second floor. ( not used ) No WiFi. Just changed supplier, teething problem. Smaller double room and small shower cubicle. Given room 3 but meant to be room 9. Top floor being decorated whilst there. Would see castle more clearly from room 3, if tall hedge was cut lower.

7,5 Good
Pros: Great owner, couldn’t do enough for you. Laid back, good for families.
Cons: Rooms are around a courtyard, so other cars, taxis, and late-night guests arriving are very loudly heard when you’re in bed. Slightly crappy showers and a drive with a lot of potholes (has been terrible weather though). Good basic facilities, just not ‘luxury’ B&B territory which is what I’d expect for the price.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Real festive atmosphere, lovely sitting around the fire on a winter's night sipping mulled wine, staff did a magnificent job coping with so many guests for Christmas dinner.
Cons: Shortage of tea spoons in the self catering kitchen.
6,0 Good
Pros: location was great, lovely old building
Cons: staff could have been more helpful with relevant information, i.e. breakfast times etc...
6,0 Good
Pros: The noise and bad behaviour of both parents and children was almost unbelievably bad. Mud on carpets upstairs from dirty boots. Children hiding and racing around in toilets etc. Feet on tables playing cards, assuming ownership of library area and rearranging seating in closed groups, leaving unwashed cups and, cutltlery and plates in self cooking area.
Cons: Some rules about noise, use of SC kitchen, a warm quiet room with comfortable chairs which had to be quiet but not silent. Corridor racing reduced, allow only YHA members. The crowd we suffered could have afforded an annual extra cost easily. From 31st onwards better groups, quieter, less aggressive, more aware of others and much better behaved children. I Thank God we chose NY instead of Xmas for our stay 3.5 days of hell was quite enough for us and for a few others. Beautiful place ruined by ugly minded people.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Warm room. Good food. Good staff. Lovely decor, real fire etc. for a great Christmas atmosphere.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Highly Recommended. Excellent location. Friendly staff. clean room and surrounding. Great value for money.
Cons: Reception for Mobile wasnt great and the Wifi was very weak in the room. I had to come down or stand on the stairs to get connected to make a call. I understand the old stone walls make it difficult but could do with a wifi booster or something - just because there is no cell reception and my parents at home were worried when the couldnt get in touch

Pros: The place is lovely and its a great location.
Cons: The heating in the kitchen was too hot and when you,re cooking dinner for six its overwhelming, also it was on during the night from 4 am although we had turned off the radiator in the bedroom - heat rises. I hardly slept and felt sick with the heat.

Pros: Staff exceptional helpful and friendly, cleanliness excellent, mattress superb. I will be booking again.
7,1 Good
Pros: Good yha standard, cooked breakfast & cold buffet. Staff polite & hard working, if a little under manned for busy hostel weekend. Comfortable yha standard, dorm room, bunks & shower.
Cons: The wifi didn't reach to the annexe we were allocated a dorm, so no internet whilst in room & uncovered carpark to cross to get connected. We weren't given the front door code, with checkin not until 5pm so no access to toilet, sit down, make a drink or deposit luggage; after long journey.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It is close to restaurants and shops along the street. The shared room was large. There were other places to hang out in the hostel other than the room
Cons: The overnight temperature in the room was just too hot, even with the windows open. There was only 4 of us in the room and it was still too hot, with no other options to cool down.

Cons: It got a bit crazy with unruley kids at one point in the lounge.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, staff very kind, a lot of possibility
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location loved the water refilling station, and the radiators to dry clothes on, was nice and warm everywhere inside, cooking and dining area were always clean, really appreciated a TV in the dining room, beds were comfy and lockers in the room so very happy about that, hot showers whenever, drying room was very warm, plenty of storage space for all your stuff and sinks nd mirrors in the rooms. Bathrooms close by but don't keep you up at night, duvets really nice too. Plates, cutlery, pots and pans, dishes and trays for the oven are supplied which is a bonus
Cons: Lack of sturdy space to park a motorbike, would have been nice but cans work the same so not a problem just a little difficult. Don't believe there was a washing machine but could be wrong. Also no salt or oil or butter to cook with which made things a little bland as thought they would be supplied as who gets through a whole one in a stay. Could do with some more appetising veggie options for the menu as well, they had veggie stuff but wasn't overly excited by any of it. Self catering anyway so not a big problem. Couldn't find any scissors. Half the hobs were electric but the pans didn't seem to work on them and the hob just seemed to burn the Base of the pan instead. Couldn't find any pans with suitable bases to use that hob set either. Bit odd. At least leave a note to say you can't use them so you don't get burnt pans. Bring your own foil sandwich bags etc
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly and informative.Evening meal hearty and delicious.
Cons: Not applicable

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location is great, staff helpful and friendly, good choice of drinks in bar.
Cons: Bed was a little soft for me and continental breakfast was just OK We had dinner which could have been hotter and car parking was a bit of a issue. I personally think a car park space should be reserved for guest.

7,0 Good
Pros: The food and location were great. Checking in and out was quick and simple. The main pub area had a quintessential rustic appeal with wooden beams, tiled floors and open fires

4,6 Okay
Pros: nice location.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable and small, the shower door didn't shut.
7,0 Good
Pros: Not the best hotel and showing it's age but adequate for our overnight stay as it is very close to the opera house. There has been more renovations since the last time we stopped so they are trying hard to upgrade the condition of the hotel.
Cons: Decor, furniture.
7,0 Good
Pros: Bed was comfy, was warm, breakfast was good and the young porter who delivered my breakfast had fantastic people skills, Courteous and professional and very well dressed in a tidy uniform. The main porter was very helpful in welcoming me and directing me to a local steakhouse for an evening meal. Overall very satisfactory. Thankyou
Cons: Not applicable. All was good
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It was in a great location for what I needed (near Buxton Opera House). The staff were friendly and a good choice of food for Breakfast. My bed was very comfy.
Cons: My room didn’t have a pleasant smell, one of the towels had a hole in it, the bathroom waste bin lid was broken. There was nothing to hang my shower gel (& hair wash products) on in the shower. The mirror in the bedroom really needed to be hung on a different wall (near to natural light from the window). The long mirror inside the wardrobe door would be better on one of the long walls. Even though the room was decorated lovely, some of the furniture looked ‘tired’.

Cons: Lighting in room
6,0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was excellent - plenty of choice and all very well cooked. The staff were extremely helpful and the dining room was warm and comfortable. In the other parts of the hotel that we saw the décor was very tired and dated, but our room was clean and tidy.
Cons: The décor in our room was very dated and in need of modernising. The bathroom was cramped and very out of date and we chose not to even try the shower.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Dog-friendly. Great value for money. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The location was ideal - just a short stroll to the centre of Buxton.
Cons: Decor and fittings in room and bathroom were a little dated and although the room itself was of a decent size, the bathroom was very small.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff are extremely nice and friendly. Very accommodating for us and the dog
Cons: The property is lovely and spacious but quite tired and could do with a make over. The bed was two large singles pushed together but with quite a gap between the beds.
