Cons:So they gave my rental away, and I had no SUV they told me to go to another location. Once they realized I wasn't leaving without the vehicle I already prepaid for...they said they had a car at pep boys. We had to wait like 30 minutes for them to pick it up. The car was dirty and I had to ask them to wipe it down. Then as we progressed on our Journey we realized that our breaks or tires weren't good. The car would not stop when you pressed the breaks. Basically this was the worst rental I have ever had and I would never use Hertz againReviewed Feb 2 2021

Pros:size - drove really well - great space for the family. Folks helping me were very niceCons:~ address on Kayak from - using Maps on my IPhone I was sent way down the road from where the actual location was...took me several times to find it - UTurns etc on South Blvd. ~ Car wasn't onsite - was being driven from Rock Hill. My pickup wasn't until 12 - as I was there after 11, I waited; when it arrived it wasn't clean on inside or out. They did offer to clean it but I needed to head out. ~there wasn't any rack on top; we were planning on using our soft top carrier - which clips to bars;Reviewed Jan 17 2017

Pros:Iris was extremely helpful, pleasant, and friendly. She made all efforts to ensure I was given the correct rate.Cons:The signage at Charlotte, NC airport only says "rental return". We drove around and ended up in the cleaning lot because we couldn't figure out where to enter to pick-up the car. There was a computer glitch with the car return time. it took a lot of time to fix this. I wasn't notified upon booking that the car was a 24 hr rental anyways. There was also a glitch with the closing time of my drop-off Hertz rental office at the Philadelphia Amtrack station. Online it says they close at 6 pm when in reality they're open all night for late drop-off. Hertz needs to make clear signage, make sure all office info is up to date online and communicate clearly the rules/times of the rental upon booking confirmation.Reviewed Nov 4 2020

Cons:Larry at the Charlotte Airport Hertz Desk was rude and arrogant and would not look me in the eye as we had a problem with transferring a reservation from another Hertz location that we reserved by mistake. The first gentleman who helped us change the reservation was wonderful but after we telephoned Hertz to do the change, he was not available. The lady who took us to the car was wonderful but Larry should not be retained by Hertz unless Hertz wants him to continue representing the company as rude and arrogant. He would not even look up the fact that I have been a Hertz #1 member for over 20 years.Reviewed Aug 3 2017

Car in bad conditionPros:Good service at another station getting swapped out of the car I first gotCons:Reserved a mini van. After a few miles driving I heard weird loud noises in the back. Went to the next closest hertz station to let them know that I don’t feel safe with this car and request a swap. There was none available in the whole area which I thought was impossible. Well they told me they will call me if one gets available. I left and tried to figure out by myself what’s wrong (the tires were down to the steel belts). Reported it to the hertz station I initially rented from and they wanted to open an insurance claim wtf?? went back to another station and requested a swap in whatever and ended up in a really small SUV without getting a refund (remember I reserved a mini van for 7 people!!!). Besides that they applied the kayak price only as a voucher and charged me the price difference to their normal rates - another $180 (!!!). Will never use kayak for a reservation again as the prices are fake plus never use hertz on south Blvd in Charlotte, NC. Plus in the future not only checking the car for dents but lay all the way down and look unbeneath the car to look at the tires. Thanks hertz for a really bad experience while my 80 year old mom from Germany was visiting.Reviewed Nov 12 2017

Pros:NothingCons:Needed a 7 passenger vehicle. When I got there they didn’t have the vehicle said it was in for maintenance. Needed if for 7 people because I was taking my daughter and her friends to Clemson to see her brother and celebrate her 16th birthday. The man told me I could take the car to the Charlotte airport to switch it out for a large SUV like I needed. When I got to the airport they were out of large vehicles! The car, a Buick Encore was filthy. It was on 1/8th tank of gas and the check oil light was on. It smelled like marijuana and air freshener. Bait and SwitchPros:NothingCons:The car rental was not at the airport as I had asked when I did the search. It was a $50 cab ride to get the car. I could have changed the reservation at airport for $400 but I already prepaid $200 because I believed Hertz was at airport. Car wasn't ready. It smelled like smoke and the agent sprayed perfume. I went to drop the car off 4 days later at noon on Sat and the place was closed but I could leave the car and they'd inspect it on next business day - which is exactly what no one would do. I was never told about hours or "leave it" policy. I Ended up dropping the car at airport for $70 extra. My $200 rental turned into a $320 rental and a lot of wasted time. I've rented w Hertz before. This was an unacceptable experience and bait-and-switch to get me to rent at a lower price at a location that obviously is low traffic - and for good reason.Reviewed Jul 2 2017

Pros:Car was clean, gas optionCons:Booked to pick up at 12 on sat. Was called to come in earlier than booked. Car was not same class as i booked, but rep tried to convince me that it was. Pulled car class online to prove it was not intermediate but compact. Rep stated they were changing it but it was same car class (lied). Called customer service to have charges adjusted but they stated they could not help until the rental was returned, very poor service. Only one car left on lot, didn't even have the option to upgrade. Will never book here again and will let everyone know on my blog how terrible of an experience this was.Reviewed Mar 4 2018

Pros:The car was fun and fuel efficient.Cons:Kayak did not take into consideration that there would be an additional $200 worth of taxes and fees added onto the car rental (they told me this was because the car rental place was located within the airport) my company paid for me. I showed up expecting for my car to be completely paid for, and I ended up having to pay $215 worth of taxes and fees, and ANOTHER $200 down as collateral. I was out $415 that I was NOT expecting during that trip and it made my travel difficult being on such a tight budget after that. The service people at Hertz did not seem very knowledgable and kept trying to force me to upgrade to a nicer car. The signs where to drop off your rental, were on laid out very well and I thought going over the spikes would spike my tires, but I didn't know they folded down. I think there should have been someone standing there telling you it was okay to drive over these spikes. Because I ended up driving around the airport looking for an alternative entrance until I figured out the spikes collapsed if you drove over them. Pros:The car was okay to drive.Cons:The amount they wanted to charge for a GPS was exorbitant. Charging $9.99 for gas if the car wasn't returned totally filled was also way out of line. I had filled it before driving to the airport and there was not an accessible gas station immediately prior to the entrance to the airport so I was charges $53.59 for what probably amounted to a gallon or two. They also put a $200 hold on my credit card even though I had prepaid and the hold has yet to be removed. Not happy at all with this rental experience!Reviewed Sep 26 2017

Poor communication between the local office and the national officePros:Excellent pick-up service at the airport.Cons:Changed my car reservation drop-off date by calling the local Hertz reservation office (as I was instructed because of the "H" in my reservation number) due to Francine but a few days later I changed it back to the original reservation drop-off date (the storm had slowed down so significantly that it turned out to be better to keep the original drop-off date). In the process, I found out that the national office had never been notified of the changed reservation and that they were still expecting me to drop the car off at the original drop-off date.Reviewed Sep 16 2018
