Pros: We went here for two nights as part of our honeymoon and boy did they spoil us!! They gave us welcome chocolates fruit wine and then made up our bed with kissing elephants and our bath with flowers. It was beautiful!! Everyone was amazing .

Pros: The security lady at the 1st floor entrance was so kind, truly felt welcomed. The hotel's pool and pool side service is excellent. The staff brings sunscreen, insect repellent, icy water, a few slices of melon and towels as soon as you get to the pool. The location is also decent and the hotel staff at the 2nd floor main entrance did an excellent job of getting us transportation and directing the drivers to the right places.

Cons: Upon check-in we were pushed to upgrade so we could have breakfast included. I've traveled all over Asia and haven't had to pay extra nonetheless made me feel like I was a peasant. The service was average. Tried to fill up the tub for my other half and there were pubic hairs floating around. The room was also cleaned better based on how much tip I left. I had great experiences at other Shangri-La hotels but this wasn't one of them.

Cons: The condo next door is being constructed, so we had to bear a constant construction noise at the pool side, but it is not the hotel's fault. The room is not as clean as I would like. The carpet is a bit old and is stained. The room air condition fan noise is loud even at the lowest fan speed setting. The most of the hotel staff did an excellent job of providing good service, but noticed the land of thousand smiles is no where to be found with a few staff.

Cons: The shower was a bit funky. It was a huge step up to get into the shower. For some reason the shower is separated by the rest of the room by glass walls, making it viewable from any point in the room. Even more oddly, the privacy for the shower is a set of horizontal blinds located on the outside of the shower. Meaning, someone in the room can walk up and open the blinds and see you using the shower or bathroom. Not that this would happen, but I find that to be very odd, and I've never seen that in my entire life.

Pros: The hotel has got a very good location, near the night bazaar, and several restaurants. The design of the hotel is very modern and stylish. The rooms are nice too.
Cons: The people working in the reception were not always very attentive. Some were very helpful, but some did not make any sign of seeing the customer. Once I stood in front of the reception desk for several minutes, waiting to ask some questions. Four people were sitting there, but nobody made any sign of wanting to talk to me. One of them was busy combing her hair! I expect more from a five star hotel. There was also quite much confusion about our booking, the check out date etc.

Cons: We had rm 216 which was dark because it faced a blank wall and construction site . We couldn't sleep past about 7AM because of crying kids, scraping chairs and walking sounds. We assume the restaurant was below us. We stayed a week and room cleaning was minimal. The carpet was dirty when we arrived and wasn't vacuumed during our stay. The shower also needs attention as it is difficult to actuate. In general we feel we paid for a premium room but didn't receive it.

Pros: The room was truly excellent value at 2000 Thai baht including as much Continental, American and Thai breakfast as you might wish to eat (in a spacious restaurant atmosphere). Our room not only had very comfortable beds but also a big sofa. There was free tea and coffee and the minibar was very reasonably priced - dressing gowns, slippers, plenty of hot water for the good bath and shower. Everything was spotless. The location near the night market is superb and the sound proofing very good. We visited at holiday time so there was no renovation or building work going on. This is now our first choice of hotel in Chiang Mai for sheer value for money.

One early morning (before 5 a.m.), the big sounds which made me hop out of bed. I checked the outside, and found someone was knocking the door of the third room next to mine, He did not pay any attention not to annoy his neighbours. He seemd to try to wake up his friend. The sounds finnaly stopped after several repetitions. Was I just unlucky?
