Pros: Fantastic hospitality and one of the most comfortable places we stayed during a tour of Cornwall and Devon. Delightful property with acres of gardens and land to explore and enjoy, including a beautiful apple orchard. Lots of lovely little touches including complimentart chocolates in the bedroom and an honesty bar for residents. Our superior double room ('Clovelly') was equipped with everything we could possibly have wanted - and more besides. Very personable owners who went above and beyond in offering local knowledge and tips for our stay. Breakfast was relaxed and plentiful and we couldn't recommend the Pines highly enough. Pros: The owners are very friendly, hospitable and will do anything for you. The gardens are very peaceful and beautiful. The lounge with the bar is very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent.
Cons: Nothing, although it would be great if they provided evening meals. They used to but stopped as it was not viable. There are lots of good local restaurants. Oh, i didnt like the shower curtain but this applies anywhere i go which has shower curtains.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful and thoughtfully decorated, a touch of luxury, the gardens were lovely.
Cons: Nothing I didn't like
6,7 Good
Cons: The waitress was extremely rude. I was getting married, so booked to stay with my family and some of my friends for a couple of days before the wedding. Unfortunately upon arrival my brother and his wife weren’t allowed to stay as they have a young child - this was completely fine, my brother didn’t read the terms properly so missed this detail and had to book somewhere else whilst also losing his money with yeoldon house. My issue was when, on the morning on my wedding, I was explaining what happened to my friends over breakfast, the waitress listened into the conversation whilst serving us our toast and couldn’t resist snapping about how ‘it says on the website’ no kids are allowed. I don’t remember actually denying this, but didn’t fancy an argument two hours before my wedding. Unfortunately for the waitress, her is my delayed response.

Pros: It was a very friendly atmosphere amazing food & the dogs were welcome with afternoon biscuit and a sausage for breakfast! The room had plenty of space and the bed was comfortable.
Cons: I would say that there was nothing I didn't like
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a large family room with proper beds for four adults and a sofa bed for our smaller person - there was plenty of room for all of us and a large dog - the bathroom was also spacious but I'd probably describe it as a little tired but the shower was large and hot and thats all we needed. There was a lovely selection of biscuits, tea, coffee and hot chocolate for all of us which was lovely at night when we all climbed into our beds and watched Netflix - another bonus for our little one. We were very comfortable in this room and the breakfast was fantastic, a huge selection of choice and served in the lovely thatched pub - our dog loved his sausages and walk in the beautiful gardens. Parking was easy and unloading bay next to the room was also a bonus. We had a dinner in the pub the night we arrived (this was a return trip so we knew it was good already) and the dinner was delicious, we all loved our choices and the kids steak was delicious apparently! Can not fault the menu and the chef, dinner was devine.
Cons: Update the bathroom is the only comment here
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely country location with plenty of history. Great garden if sunny. Make sure you book in for dinner. Great breakfast with different choices.
Cons: Minor problem of mould in the bathroom. No other problems.

Pros: I have never seen a happier group of workers. To hear them laughing and having fun whilst they worked was great. Brilliant staff - very impressed!. The food was really lovely, and the hotel room was very clean. The location was to die for! Such beauty - it was wet and very windy when I was there, but that suited me perfectly. The waves! Wow! R2 982+
Overview Reviews
Located in Bideford, Red Lion Hotel is a 1-minute drive from Clovelly Harbour and 6 minutes from The Milky Way Adventure Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We have never stayed in a hotel like the Red Lion and the fishing village. The meals were great as with the wines. The village and the hotel were nothing we imagined with the cars parked in front of the Atlantic Ocean. The village didn’t have a road.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is situated directly on the beach in a heritage listed village on the Cornwall coast. It was very quaint & the location was great.
Cons: The check in staff are also the bar staff so there was a wait to check in while they served people in the bar downstairs. The staff were very nice but it was a shame that there were no locals working at the hotel to offer any local knowledge.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Bar dirty and a lot of flies.Food very poor
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Our waitress was excellent. She worked very hard, (because of staff shortage) was very cheerful and she knew her business well. The food was also excellent- so much so that I asked how long the chef had been with the Red Lion. I discovered that he was a relief chef brought in at short notice.
Cons: There was nothing that I would single out for criticism in particular.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was cosy and welcoming.
Cons: Nothing.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was excellent.
Cons: We liked everything about our stay.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful. The room we were given was beautiful clean and had great view, my only suggestion was that because the weather was hot the room at night was hot and stuffy I would suggest a ceiling fan or at least a fan.
Cons: I think the hotel was short staffed during our stay and that reflected in their behaviour, although the staff were not rude by any means curt would perhaps be a better way to describe the staff I had dealings with.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Your hotel is beautiful. Next time I will come and stay longer!
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location of Red Lion at base of Clovelly. Car parking included in rate. Complimentary Land rover service to take you to top of hill to walk down cobbled village. Entrance to Village included in rate. Spotless facilities. Great food Friendly informative staff.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Ideal location. Breakfast excellent, it was cooked to order. Room was very well decorated and we had all that we needed for a comfortable stay.
Cons: The hotel overall was excellent. My only criticism was we had a room in the annexe which was great but since it was on the ground floor we were unable to leave the window open because it was level with the pavement so it got very stuffy.
7,9 Good
Pros: Room very clean. Good breakfast
Cons: Small room. Noise came from pub located in the ground floor.ver
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Bed extremely comfy! Breakfast good
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was just what was required. It was dog friendly. It was comfortable, but I do wish these reviews didn't demand you write a specific number of words, as now I am running out of things to say...
Cons: Again, it asking me what I didn't like, but wont let me stop and submit this glowing review unit the little green bar at the bottom goes green and lets me carry on with the rest of my life..............
5,4 Okay
Pros: The upgraded room, 19 was good.
Cons: We were initially given room 10 and when shown the room by the manageress it was impossible not to notice that there was an absolutely foul smell in the room. We opened the window as far as possible and left the room for 2 or 3 hours to go to the beach. When we came back the room still smelt awful. On investigation, we discovered that there was a large wet patch on the carpet. On closer investigation it became apparent that the wet patch was actually dog urine. We complained to the manageress who (having previously told us that the rooms were all fully booked) offered us (a smaller) room 6 which we accepted. Part way moving all of our stuff (on our own without any offer of help from the staff) we were then offered a free upgrade to room 19 which is a large room in the annex some distance away from the main pub building. We gratefully accepted the upgrade but again were not offered any help in moving all of our stuff which was now partly in room 10 and partly in room 6. Whilst we appreciated the upgrade we found the whole situation pretty annoying particularly as we were only staying for one night and with all of the moving around and upheaval it meant we were late for our supper booking and had no time to relax between coming of the beach an supper. We are dog lovers ourselves but feel that we should have been told that the room we were allocated was a 'dog' bedroom and suggest that some rooms should be kept dog free. Failing that, any rooms that smell as badly as room 10 did when we first arrived should not be offered to guests.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous room upgraded on arrival and early 1pm check in. Suite was amazing huge bath, seating area, comfy beds and huge tv. Would recommend.

7,5 Good
Pros: The lounge bar is my partners favourite place to sit and relax.
Cons: Bed and bedroom were a bit small but everything else was excellent. Friendly, helpful staff and super breakfasts.
6,3 Good
Pros: The style and decor of the building.
Cons: In our bedroom the Inability to properly open windows and having to rely on an air conditioner was not pleasant. Also there was a noise from what we thought to be a kitchen extractor fan below our bedroom. This seemed to be on for about 14 hours a day Although both the breakfast and evening food was excellent we personally experienced or noticed other diners having to ask for water, their orders to be taken, and a long waiting time for their meals. Also items missing from table layout. One would have expected better from a restaurant of this style.
7,5 Good
Pros: Quiet, reasonably comfortable, very clean, great value
Cons: Bed was a bit soft. The property is a little old-fashioned and in need of some refurbishment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was good except the bed. Hi
Cons: The bed was too small as we are used to a king size. We wouldn’t have booked had we known it was a double.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: An excellent breakfast and nice staff.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast menu is very good. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Comfortable bed with great pillows!
7,9 Good
Pros: We purchased a treasure trail from the internet and explored the town, frequented a few of the local pubs and learnt about some of the local history.
Cons: On leaving the hotel we nipped into town for a quick lunch before our drive back. On returning to the car a couple came out the hotel and made a comment about our using the hotel carpark when we hadn't used the hotel!...…………… some people!! ………………. no fault of the hotel but clearly annoyed me.
7,0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was more than adequate and our room was excellent, newly refurbished, good size and very good bathroom. Good views of the river and town opposite. The location of the hotel, on a fairly busy road in a quite rundown part of the town was not so good but it's only a short walk across the bridge to the main town.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location excellent..
6,7 Good
Pros: Nice breakfast and bar
Cons: Bed was v uncomfortable

Pros: Bar food and breakfast was ok.
Cons: Needs updating, furniture scratched, bits missing, smelly carpet, graffiti in the lifts. They charge to use the sauna that is on the shed! All above ok if I paid £40 bit as it was £95 it was not good value for money. They must survive on the bus loads of OAP tourists. Probably a nice place once but very run down!
