Pros: I was placed in a very nice hotel for the night. Emirates staff very helpful in helping me get on another flight.
Cons: When I arrived at the airport the next morning on January 1st 2017 to get on another flight, the lady at the OR Tambo Air Namibia ticketing office (her name is Happy) gave me a very hard time. She told me that the staff from the night before should not have put me in a hotel, and that she could not give me another flight. Her reason was that I had booked the flight through a travel agency website and so it was not Air Namibia's responsibility to get me on another flight. When I tried to explain to her why it was she started to yell at me. "Don't tell me how to do my job", she said. As I started to explain again that I paid for the flight and that Air Namibia surely received compensation and would not be out any money by placing me on another flight she told me to "stop arguing" with her. I took my claim to the Emirates counter, very upset from a fight I did not need to have and lack of sleep the past two days of traveling. The Emirates staff called Happy over to explain to her why she should get me on a flight. Happy finally agreed, but by this time the flight was about to leave and I almost missed it. Because of her delay, I had to run through the airport, and my bag did not make it on. When I finally received my luggage a week later, it was broken and torn with the contents spilling out. If Happy had better customer service skills and had helped me instead of giving me a hard time, I would not have had the horrible day that I did and resultant destroyed luggage. In my opinion, she should be fired, and I strongly advise Emirates not to connect flights with this airline (who apparently makes these types of cancellations every year). Pros: The crew was great, the food was fine; it was all very much as good as could be expected. It was a very positive experience relative to industry norms.
Cons: Boarding (and deplaning) is inherently tedious; I'm not sure what could be done to fix it. And sitting on planes for 17 - 19 hours is just brutal. This is not South African Airline's fault, it's a problem across the board, and i don't see this changing anytime soon. Also, the human air-travel carbon footprint is completely unsustainable, which is also not the (particular) fault of South African Airlines. In fact, it's my fault for participating...
Pros: The food was good for airplane food.
Cons: We were moved to 8 different pairs of seats in search of video/audio systems that worked and were unable to find any that worked properly. That's pretty bad. I travel every year to RSA and used to use Delta. As a result of this trip I may revert back to Delta
Pros: I took Air Namibia from Victoria Falls to Windhoek. It was a small plane (3 seats across total) which I don't like too much as you feel every like bit of turbulence. With the exception of take off and landing, it was fine. They served food and free drinks even though it was an hour and forty-five minute flight which surprised me. Overall, I was pleased. There were only 14 passengers and one flight attendant.
Cons: The boarding process was just a free for all. Could not get tv to work, no help from crew. It would have been nice to get our passport control forms on the plane, instead of at airport. Other flights comeng in had theirs.
Pros: There was a female cabin crew (I can't recall her name but I guess she was the only female serving food) on Flight 209 from Accra to Washington on September 3, 2019 - her negative attitude absolutely disqualifies her to be a cabin crew on any flight. Besides that, the seats were comfortable.
Cons: First time flying SA...generally, I enjoyed the flight just that all the cabin crews need to have intensive training on great customer service and professionalism.
