There was a difference between the price when I booked on Kayak and what I was sent from their 'partner' for the rental (Priceline - that price was a bit higher), but the Kayak price was what I was charged by Dollar. Long wait in line for pick up at the Santa Ana airport, looked like that was the case at the other places too. Service at the counter was good, and I was happy with the car. Car return was very smooth and the staff person there was great.

The Rental Person did not disclose that there was a daily charge associated with toll roads. Would have "opted in" for unlimited use of toll per day. Instead, I was told nothing and tried to work through Customer Service to resolve the issue where I was essentially charged an additional $50 for nothing. Dollar Rent-A-Car Customer Service is completely tone deaf and did nothing to resolve the issue. They are completely dishonest and incompetent. As an experienced traveler, I frequently rent cars and have never had such a piss poor experience. They need to be re-trained on communication, honesty and follow up. Would never use this "shit box" company ever again. I plan to dispute charges through my credit card company until they feel the type of inconvenience and pain they caused me. Karma is a bitch.

This was a particularly busy day with flight cancellations, but the process seemed unnecessarily complicated. Why was there a second line to "check in" to pick up the keys immediately after the main rental process? Also, Dollar customers were definitely ranked below Hertz in the cross-company desk. That's... not a great customer experience. Still, the employees were doing the best they could on a rough day.

Really great! Line was not fun at the airport but otherwise was really efficient. Maybe would have preferred a few different vehicle options but they fulfilled the request fine.

Renting online was easy. Picking up from the airport was not pleasant due to the counter service, or lack there of. The hertz/dollar employee was very rude, short, and did not explain any of the charges he was doing. Even when I asked, he responded with attitude. I prepaid for my vehicle knowing that I would have a $55 fee at the counter when I picked up. When he charged my card, he charged an extra $200. Confused by this, I repeatedly asked him what it was for and his response was don’t worry about it. After my 5th request to explain it, he finally said that it was a refundable deposit as he stormed off to grab the key. He then gave us the key and the car that was given to us was one of the very last cars in the row at the furthest point from the check in counter. Other than his rude demeanor, lack of customer service, and overall ill disposition, all other parts of our experience with dollar went well.

Dollar did not have my car at time of reservation and said it was in another lot that would take at least 20 minutes. 20 minutes later they said they did not have the car at all. The car they offered was smaller and was still expected to pay the same price as the extra large suv that I had rented through kayak. This is not what I payed for and was not able to take all the things I needed to for my sons college move in, which is why I rented the biggest car. I did not have a choice with no other options so I took the smaller suv at the same large suv price. I feel ripped off.

Waited over two hours to receive a car. Staff was OK to deal with but they did not have enough cars to cover the number of rentals.

The wait for a car when I arrived was over an hour. There were only two employees to handle Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty. Apparently they are all owned by the same company? Regardless, they need to staff that counter better.
