The car was dirty. ( insides were covered in dust and had a horrible musty smell) I needed to extend the length of the rental, but the automated phone line kept hanging up or disconnecting. I called the local office and they tried to charge me a completely different amount. I went to the office to show my receipt and he looked it up and said it was a computer malfunction. The car was not satisfactory. I did not receive the type of car I paid for (BMW 3 series) or given suitable substitute. The car I was given ran poorly and had the check engine light illuminated. I wanted to extend my rental. The credit card I had on file was lost, and discontinued. They would not take a new credit card over the phone. They said this was for my own protection, and prevents fraudulent car rentals. However the car has already been rented... I had already proven my identity when I picked it up. I was not renting a new car. Unless someone had stolen my car, credit card, and was conscientious enough to call Alamo to extend the rental... there is no reason to worry about fraud. Additionally other large companies take credit card information over the phone. To say it is not a secure method is lazy, and hinders Alamo from providing a better customer experience. The customer service rep agreed that the policy did not make sense in my case, but that she could do nothing about it, it was simply "the policy." To me, then, that is the definition of bad policy. I was forced to return to the airport, out of my way, to prove for the second time I am who I am. Just a terrible customer service experience. I will not be renting with Alamo or affiliated Alamo brands in the future.10,0 Wonderful

BUR desk was understaffed. FAT staff was, well, lazy. At drop-off an Avis guy Ian paid to stand there and tell you you have to record your own mileage and fuel and walk in to the terminal to check out and get a receipt. The lady at the desk seemed put out that I already had the mileage and fuel so she couldn’t send me back to get it. Not a good look.Thrifty

My main complaint is with the billing process. It was written in my confirmation that "Thrify charged the total cost of this reservation ($85.25) to your credit card today." However, when I picked up the car I was charged an additional $21.17 in miscellaneous services charges and taxes. I have rented cars and purchased flights through Kayak for many years and have never before experienced this "bait and switch" technique. I don't know if this scam was the fault of Kayak, Thrifty or CarRentals.com but suffice to say, I won't be using any of these companies again. If I can't trust you to quote me a fair price, then we can't do business with each other.4,0 Mediocre

Improve your off hours telephone support, for normal questions relating to the car functions and normal customer support questions, beyond the 9-5 normal business hours to perhaps 9-9 local time. On your toll-free national number. I called at 6:10pm CA time, right after I picked the car at 5:30pm after I came home, and the telephone support message said the office is only open during normal business hours and call tomorrow. Terrible customer service and rates. They were out of economy cars so they gave us a suv but charged us for the suv at a rate of 90/day! My reservation was for 10/day.
