Pros: Perfect location and great room. Customer service was exceptional. On arrival our fridge had some leftover items from a previous guest, much to the disgrace of the concierge man, so it was immediately cleaned and we were given free drinks and snacks at the bar. Highly recommended.

Pros: Ok so the staff is so nice but room 414 had little to no water pressure and trickle of hot water...... I asked the front to change rooms but because they were full no possible.... So sucked it up and took Luke warm shower for two days.... Manager said he would comp a dinner at hotel eatery .... Didn't happen and no one seemed to know how it would work. Bed was comfortable location is great for San Jose .
My best advice to anyone staying in Costa Rica is get out of San Jose and see the countryside unless u want to be in New York meets Tijuana

Pros: Location location location! Couldn't have been in a better location. So close to all the tourist spots and good restaurants. San Jose is surprisingly a great city to explore on foot. It certainly has its gems. The staff at the hotel was AMAZING and super friendly and helpful. The included breakfast on the top floor was certainly a treat each morning.

Cons: Rooms are run down, and not in the best condition. We had to change rooms because of bugs in the first. AC would have been nice.

Pros: the breakfast was okay. location is okay if you're staying a night and have to go to the airport the next day.
Cons: The front desk staff lacks professionalism. On one occasion, I was hoping to use the phone to book a tour. The front desk attendant said that he knew a better company and dialed a number and my friend didn't really ask for specifics and booked the tour. As a side note, that company that starts with the letter "M" was the worst experience I had in Costa Rica in terms of safety while driving. Not only did the front desk attendant have the audacity to refer us to this "M" company, when I called to ask what the company's name was he told me to act like we asked for the number and not tell anyone that he had referred us to them. This is not even the tip of the iceberg.
On one occasion, my friend and I were getting a couple of drinks and since most people go out at night, we were called "squares" in Spanish for staying in and drinking at the hotel instead of outside.
We found two cockroaches in the hotel which is normal since the front door is always open, but upon finding a third cockroach a day later, I managed to keep it under a glass and left it for the cleaning staff to discard because I forgot to do it. When we returned later that same night and the room was cleaned, we were not given a new glass. The cleaning staff rinsed the glass and left it on top of the desk. I mean, who does that? As a side note, the cockroach was about two inches big and touched the surface of the cup.

Cons: The new management has charges for everything. The parking is $8, used to be free. They now want to charge an extra $10 for an infant. I've never stayed in any hotel with such a charge. They also now want $25 for a dog fee. There are other charming hotels in San Jose without these charges and that's where we'll be in the future. Too bad this historic hotel now only seems interested in oblivious German tour groups :( our room was noisy, due to the large tour groups now frequenting this hotel.

No refund. Fraud. Deception. Advance booking for excellent Holiday Inn is just $12 more. Awful experience.

Cons: The barman was dismissive Could have done with more drinks packs in room. 2 tea, 2 coffee but only 2 crema. I tried black tea but if tasted of coffee. Don't think the coffee maker works for making tea. We knew where the hotel was in relation to town centre but the walk was a little rough underfoot and traffic was very busy. We walked half the time but took taxis as well and the taxi was so reasonable. We paid £2 to get back from central plaza.

Fruits most of the time is served late like after 0630 when we finish and about to go. Sausage is on the salty side-eggs oily- Entrance to lobby/hotel is weird--- specially when the shops at the first floor is closed- either you enter through the restaurant or wait for someone to see you at the parking garage gate

Cons: When we got to the room we didn't have power for the lights or the ac so I called downstairs (the phone worked) and they informed me you have to insert your keycard in a slot by the door to get power. Weird but ok, I'll play along. After a couple hours of trying to get the ac to work and trying to sleep without it, I ended up calling the desk and having them take a look. They couldn't figure it out and moved us to a room right next door, which was an upgrade. The staff was great and helpful with the situation but the new ac didn't work much better. All in all, not a bad hotel. Great location, there was free breakfast we didn't get to enjoy, they opened my bottle of wine, and took great care of my complaint. However, there was a lot of construction which was a little weird to deal with and the ac is a huge thing for me. From the north and my house is constantly freezing.

Cons: Breakfast and a staff are good, but that is all good about it considering the price. It is a "historic" hotel - read "outdated" There is no AC in all but two rooms facing street, so prepare it to be hot and noisy. Room needs paint job. If you want to cool down the room, you have to open windows which are already by no means can keep neither heat or noise out. Hotel needs upgrades desperately. Even Motel 6 would be better by comparison. While it is located just a short walk from the center (definitely a plus if you do not have a car), getting there or staying there is sad experience to say the least. If you have a car, there is a gated parking for extra $ just around the corner. Yes, as mentioned in other posts, there is a train station nearby, but no trains run at night that we noticed, However there is busy street next to the hotel and people love to show up their loud exhausts on occasion. I do not know how people were positively impressed with the stay there, so read all reviews carefully. Bottom line - Sorry to say, but stay somewhere else until things improve. We end up staying just one night and moving to much better hotel for less in Santa Ana. There are other options in SJ downtown if you have to stay there.

Cons: When we arrived we had driven a lot of miles from the South Pacific. The woman on reception was unfriendly and rude. When we checked in told us we were up the first flight of stairs, I have a mobility condition so asked if someone could carry our bags up as there wasn’t a lift plus we’d had a very long drive but she said her husband sometimes did it but wasn’t around and dismissed us with a wave and turned back to her phone screen

Cons: This hotel is dirty and very outdated. Rooms need an upgrade. The bathroom ceiling fan was half hanging down. The sheets and bath towels had dried blood and stains all over. The walls are super thin. The couple next to me had sex for 2 hours and the headboard was hitting the wall. Woke me up from my sleep because they were super loud! You could even hear the woman’s moaning in the hotel hallway! They advertise a shuttle but the hotel doesn’t have one! They also do not have an iron or ironing board in the room. You have to use their laundry service to get your clothes pressed and ironed....but their amenities mention a guest laundry room! I will not stay here again when I come back to Costa Rica.

Cons: Room did not match photos at all. AC did not adjust so it was either freezing or hot. Lamps didn't work. No window in the room. Whole hotel hasn't been updated in over 20 years at least. Water from the shower shot everywhere but where it was supposed to. Sheets were stained. Not a good experience at all.

Pros: a good place to stay for one night in between buses, couple of blocks walk to the mall and lots of food options around. Next to a supermarket and had a kitchen available for use. Staff were really helpful and woke up early to let us out due to us having an early bus. Rooms were ok, get what you pay for! ATM 50ms down the road as well.

Cons: Our first room was with broken window, so we asked to change it which was fortunately possible. The kitchen "opening hours" were very limited so the question is when the kitchen is actually available. Overall a general maintanance of the entire place would be recommended.

Cons: Small rooms with no windows. Very little lighting, and a lot of the bulbs were burnt out. Water in the bathroom ran constantly. Uncomfortable beds with terrible pillows.
