Pros: A lovely colonial style hotel. We had a standard room which was small but very nicely presented and comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. We absolutely loved the restaurant. It was extremely elegant and the staff were very helpful and made us feel very special. The food was very good and not overly expensive. We were able to leave some of our luggage with the hotel as we went on a river trip for a couple of nights which was extremely useful.

Pros: A lovely colonial style hotel. We had a standard room which was small but very nicely presented and comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. We absolutely loved the restaurant. It was extremely elegant and the staff were very helpful and made us feel very special. The food was very good and not overly expensive. We were able to leave some of our luggage with the hotel as we went on a river trip for a couple of nights which was extremely useful.
Cons: The view from out of the room faced an internal courtyard but as we were only staying for one night it really did not matter and the windows were sufficiently screened to make sure no one could look in.

Pros: Ok so the staff is so nice but room 414 had little to no water pressure and trickle of hot water...... I asked the front to change rooms but because they were full no possible.... So sucked it up and took Luke warm shower for two days.... Manager said he would comp a dinner at hotel eatery .... Didn't happen and no one seemed to know how it would work. Bed was comfortable location is great for San Jose .
My best advice to anyone staying in Costa Rica is get out of San Jose and see the countryside unless u want to be in New York meets Tijuana

Pros: the breakfast was okay. location is okay if you're staying a night and have to go to the airport the next day.
Cons: The front desk staff lacks professionalism. On one occasion, I was hoping to use the phone to book a tour. The front desk attendant said that he knew a better company and dialed a number and my friend didn't really ask for specifics and booked the tour. As a side note, that company that starts with the letter "M" was the worst experience I had in Costa Rica in terms of safety while driving. Not only did the front desk attendant have the audacity to refer us to this "M" company, when I called to ask what the company's name was he told me to act like we asked for the number and not tell anyone that he had referred us to them. This is not even the tip of the iceberg.
On one occasion, my friend and I were getting a couple of drinks and since most people go out at night, we were called "squares" in Spanish for staying in and drinking at the hotel instead of outside.
We found two cockroaches in the hotel which is normal since the front door is always open, but upon finding a third cockroach a day later, I managed to keep it under a glass and left it for the cleaning staff to discard because I forgot to do it. When we returned later that same night and the room was cleaned, we were not given a new glass. The cleaning staff rinsed the glass and left it on top of the desk. I mean, who does that? As a side note, the cockroach was about two inches big and touched the surface of the cup.

Pros: This is a historic building with all its charms. Make sure to walk through the whole building, it’s well worth your time! I stayed there several times over the years and always enjoy it. Very clean, well kept, very friendly and accommodating staff. The breakfast bar is well stocked, lots of fresh fruit, good coffee.
Cons: If you expect air conditioned rooms, you won’t find much of it. There are ceiling fans, though. The mattresses are a bit hard.

Cons: The area whilst central is a bit run down with pavements which are lethal due to brocken sets and missing inspection covers. The small double bed was pushed against one wall. The en-suite was separated from the room by a not full height to get light and air from the outside window. Breakfast was poor. The hotel has lots of old features but is a bit down at heal. The swimming pool was cloudy so the dolphin mosaic was obscured so we didn’t use. Plastic flowers in room

Cons: So far, best Hostel I've stayed in San Jose. Staff is really nice, they stick to the schedule (strange for ticos) and they are very helpful. The part of the Hostel I knew, very clean, and the best part is, that if you want to sleep after a long party night, it is calm and quite to do so. Breakfast great!! The only personal issue for me was that I had to pay extra for some fruit, so I could have what I consider my complete breakfast, that at the end, I shouldn't have to, because my roommate woke 5min after schedule and missed his breakfast, so , I could have had his for free (Cristal ball not working properly that day lol). For sure and until further notice, from now on everytime that I go to San Jose to run some errands or to have a fun day far from home, I will stay there. That way I will know if I have access to the kitchen, to cook my meals like lunch and dinner if I'm in the premises.

We were nervous because we hadn't heard good things about San Jose, but we felt safe and welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The receptionist gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and the hotel was close to most major sights. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Aranjuez!

It was 5 converted houses with lots of warm wood and coziness.Excellent full breakfast with omelette bar. Not a hotel chain so I particularly loved it. It was maybe a 20 minutes walk to down town. But you passed through very interesting sectors of the city and saw city life.

Pros: My sister and I stayed one night at Hotel Aranjuez. The service was amazing and room was clean and comfortable. We were nervous because we hadn't heard good things about San Jose, but we felt safe and welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The receptionist gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and the hotel was close to most major sights. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Aranjuez!

Pros: The eggs were not fluffy. The fry-plate was not really warm enough for either pancakes or omelettes, and so to hurry the cooking, the chef repeatedly pressed on both the omelettes and pancakes I watched being cooked. Nothing fluffy came from that process.
Cons: I booked my reservation on your website, and consequently paid for my breakfast. I was informed that had I called for my reservation breakfast would have been included. This was not made clear until too late.

Pros: The hotel was very clean, great great staff, very Costa Rican celebrating the mascaras culture. It was 5 converted houses with lots of warm wood and coziness.Excellent full breakfast with omelette bar. Not a hotel chain so I particularly loved it. It was maybe a 20 minutes walk to down town. But you passed through very interesting sectors of the city and saw city life.

Pros: I liked the staff person on duty when I checked in. I was there for a tour pickup. When I returned on Sunday night exhausted from a long day and before i called my cab I asked the woman at the front desk if I could please use the rest room i had checked out earlier that day. She said “no”. Discretion is the better part of valor. I am 68 years old. A Platinum Amex card carrier. I stay at a lot of hotels world wide. I will not come back to this one ever!!!!!!

Cons: We asked to reserve a baby crib on booking and were told no need to reserve, they would have one for us. When we arrived we were told no cribs were available. They ended up having to borrow one from another hotel however that could have been a disaster. Restaurant was overpriced and not very good value. Food was so so.

Cons: The food (dinner and breakfast) wasn’t that enjoyable. The gym was very small and the entire hotel looked nicer on photos. The stay was alright. We liked to go out for dinner and find a nice restaurant, but people on the street warned us to walk around in the neighborhood that time of the day (8:00 pm), so we went back to the hotel restaurant.

Cons: Watch out for the fact that the hotel Standard room has no window to the outside. They wanted me to pay $80 more per night (which would more than double my rate) to upgrade to get one. They did move me to a new room when I asked them kindly to find another one at the same rate. This room was also subpar. Low ceiling, old furniture, shower that didn’t drain, and walls so thin that I could hear the kid screaming next door as if she were in my room. So terrible.

Cons: When we got to the room we didn't have power for the lights or the ac so I called downstairs (the phone worked) and they informed me you have to insert your keycard in a slot by the door to get power. Weird but ok, I'll play along. After a couple hours of trying to get the ac to work and trying to sleep without it, I ended up calling the desk and having them take a look. They couldn't figure it out and moved us to a room right next door, which was an upgrade. The staff was great and helpful with the situation but the new ac didn't work much better. All in all, not a bad hotel. Great location, there was free breakfast we didn't get to enjoy, they opened my bottle of wine, and took great care of my complaint. However, there was a lot of construction which was a little weird to deal with and the ac is a huge thing for me. From the north and my house is constantly freezing.

It was like the bug juice I got at camp as a kid, without the bugs. Housekeeping was the only thing that excelled. They did so in an antiquated building. The tv worked most of the time and the ac was cold. There was no safe in the room, but a lockbox was available at the front desk. The DR food and service were substandard.

Pros: The scrambled eggs were crusty and over cooked anytime I went. At six and eight am they were the same. There was only one kind of juice. It was like the bug juice I got at camp as a kid, without the bugs. Housekeeping was the only thing that excelled. They did so in an antiquated building. The tv worked most of the time and the ac was cold. There was no safe in the room, but a lockbox was available at the front desk. The DR food and service were substandard.
Cons: The daytime front desk staff lied to me whenever I asked a question. She sent me the wrong direction to get to the zoo. She said I could make local calls from the room. I could not and there was a charge when she made it for me(to call a taxi). She told me I could have my laundry done on Sunday. I could not. These were all inconveniences, but at check in I asked repeatedly to not charge my credit card as I would psy cash at check out. When I inquired at checkout I was told the card had been billed.

Cons: Room did not match photos at all. AC did not adjust so it was either freezing or hot. Lamps didn't work. No window in the room. Whole hotel hasn't been updated in over 20 years at least. Water from the shower shot everywhere but where it was supposed to. Sheets were stained. Not a good experience at all.

Cons: The street noise is quite loud. It is not uncommon to have a motorcycle rev its engine at 2am or at 6am have cars or trucks honking their horns. If you stay here you need to ask for an inside room otherwise your sleep will be interrupted on a regular basis.

The room I was in was very clean but the soap dispenser at the sink did not work the tv remote control was in bad condition and you could not turn on the tv with the remote plus the power button on the tv was broken and you had to play with it in order to turn it on or off.

Cons: Upon checkout, they charged us for 2 mini-bar items that we *definitely* did not consume (trust me, we paid very close attention to what we used). Since it only came out to a few more extra dollars, I can't imagine the hotel management has a policy of intentionally doing this, so perhaps the maids swiped the items or something. What *does* seem intentional, however, is how they squeezed a few more colones out of us by basically "double taxing" us. by rounding up the cost of each item, applying the 13% VAT - even though the items were explicitly priced so that the VAT could be easily applied without rounding. For example, the beers were priced at ₡1,061.95 each; this rather specific number is designed so that after the 13% tax is applied, it comes out to an even ₡1,200. What the hotel staff did instead was to round up the cost to ₡1,100, then apply the tax to bring it to ₡1,243. Again, the actual amount is somewhat trivial: the incorrect rounding added a total of about $2 USD to our bill, and combined with the two drinks we were incorrectly charged for, we were overcharged by only around $6 or $7 USD - hardly the scam of the year or anything (especially given that, for a minibar, the prices were very reasonable). But it was still pretty irritating, as they obviously rely on the fact that visitors hardly want to go through the effort of arguing over such a small amount when they are checking out and want to be on their way. In addition, it makes me wonder where else they may be pulling this stunt - for example, for all I know they may have added a drink to my bar tab, etc.

For example, borrowing a towel was $5 (refundable after use) but I only had a $20... I just gave them a $20 and they gave me the $20 back afterwards. Bed was clean and while not super comfortable, for $5 it was beyond perfect. 10/10 would recommend as a wonderful hostel to stay at.

The pillows small and not puffy. The linen not clean and every move you make its coming out of the matress that was with stains.On the good part: The staff was very helpfull . Lots of stripclubs at two minutes away, escorts bars just two minutes away the location is disappointing unsafe unclean I did not feel safe there. The hotel had no hot water the sink was not functioning the bed were not clean. I did not stay my second night I changed hotels.
