8,3 Excellent
Pros: The room was warm and comfortable, the beds were superb, feather pillows and duvets. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The host was very friendly and on the whole a very nice place to stay. We had the option of breakfast, but chose not to, because we cannot eat a large breakfast.
Cons: Parking at the venue was very limited, but overnight parking was available on the central green for a voluntary fee or on the road within 2 minutes of the venue. Not everyone likes the perfume in fabric conditioner, it was too powerful on the bedclothes for my taste, and I could literally taste it.

Pros: We stayed at The Frenchgate Hotel as we were attending a wedding nearby. We were greeted by Paula who was welcoming and exceedingly helpful. We were able to get into our room earlier and thus were able to arrive at the wedding on time and stress free. The hotel was in a beautiful location, rooms clean comfy and stylish. Breakfast was a choice and was also fantastic. Thank you Frenchgate Hotel for making our stay wonderful and we would definite come and stay again if we are in the area.

Cons: It was all very good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was first class
Cons: Nothing it was all good
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: Looked nice on photos, shame they resold our room leaving us with no accommodation the morning of one of my best friends wedding.
Cons: Didn’t pick up phone to contact me at all (if they thought there had been a problem or we weren’t genuine) Resold our room despite us booking WEEKS in advance and it still being ACTIVE in our booking.com account. Manager extremely rude, he should be ashamed at the way he speaks to people. Was also told ‘I should pick up the phone and make a booking instead of being like other people and using smartphones’ Lied saying booking.com resold room when they didn’t/couldn’t. Left us with no accommodation for us to attend one of my best friends wedding. Ended up having to drive there and back resulting in us missing half the night.
7,9 Good
Pros: Amazing breakfast, huge Comfy bed. Had character.
Cons: A little dusty (blinds and bed head)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with all amenities. Great attention to detail and the staff are exceptional. Breakfast was excellent all fresh ingredients and cooked to order, I had an American Breakfast and as I stay away a lot was a refreshing change to the usual choices. Would definitely recommend a stay!
Cons: Nothing I really enjoyed the hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice rooms, cosy feel. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Large comfy beds.
Cons: Creaky floorboards above (which obviously can’t be helped anyway). I would have liked curtains as well as blinds as I like it to be pitch black but that’s personal preference.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly and hospitable
7,5 Good
Pros: Great food and great bedrooms. Staff fruendly and welcoming.
Cons: Did not like that staff asked for a tip when settling the bill. You should not be put under pressure to pay a tip to staff. This should be at the customers discretion.

Pros: Beautiful setting. Spacious rooms and bathroom. Authentic castle atmosphere and decorations. Good food, available all day and evening. It was the perfect setting for our family.
Cons: The beds were very hard, I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I've had back surgery and a hip replacement and could not bear to lie on this hard mattress, felt like concrete. The staff said they would bring up another duvet for me to lie on but it never appeared, so I had 3 sleep-deprived nights.

Pros: I might probably go again. The scenery was amazing from the lodge. It was breathtaking. I will share the pictures as well. I loved the two days I spent there, be it staff or the room or the kitchen or the sitting lounge or the people came there.
Cons: The limited public transport to the lodge and Grinton made it hard to commute or I waited for hours to catch the next bus to the lodge or to the rail station in Darlington and Northallerton. If you are going with your own vehicle, it is the perfect place to go.

Rain water dripping through ceiling of room during heavy rainfall (Room F7) Electric power cut every day around 7.30am. Cons: ColdTap in bathroom very stiff and wouldn’t turn off properly. Breakfast on Saturday morning although plentiful was buffet style and therefore not as fresh and hot as would have liked. 8,0 Excellent
Pros: we did not have breakfast as we were at a 2 lunch time celebrations but dinner on first night was very good quality and choice. We asked for ground floot/disbaled room and were allocated one by friendly reception who also booked taxi. The hotel groundflloor is a bit of a warren of corridors ina former mansion house and the signage to/from rooms and to reception is poor-or non existent. hotel is approx 10 mins taxi ride from Darlington rail station. Allow plenty time for return as there are lots of slow traffic lights-even worse in York! if you are going by rail, I advise using LNER as our CrossCountry train was an hour late but LNER allowed us on board to York. Bannatynes hotel is worth the money in our opinion. Good customer service and bill presnedted correctly.
Cons: poot internal and external signage
7,0 Good

Pros: Very friendly staff - evening meal food was amazing. Hotel put on an early breakfast for those of us running The Great North Run, which was very much appreciated.
Cons: Building needs a bit of TLC - particularly in the main entrance room. Peeling wallpaper and look of damp/water damage is a bit off putting for first impressions.

Pros: Clean and friendly with gym also there
Cons: Nothing perfect stay
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, easy location for road network. Room was clean, wish I knew they had a small gym onsite. Breakfast was tasty and fresh.
Cons: I would think it must be due a refurb in the next few years - some signs of wear and tear that I wouldn't expect to see in a chain of this size. If you don't want to use the restaurant it's a 10-15 minute drive into Darlington to find alternatives.
9,0 Excellent
Cons: Room was very noisy being next to squeaky hall floor just before and after the hall door leading to the lift. Kept me awake.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Our room was nice & clean & the public area around the bar & restaurant was very smart, modern & full of colour.
Cons: The adjoining door in our room made it feel a bit less private & sound carried through it, our neighbours were quiet at night though thankfully. A lot of items at breakfast had run out despite it only being about 8:30 & the coffee from the machine had a uht milk smell about it & didn't taste very nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent front of hotel staff - very attentive & helpful to my requests. Any problems immediately dealt with. Room large, comfortable bed, good range of toiletries & other electrical items. Everything worked. If window open may be a tad noisy from passing traffic for some although shielded by a good thick curtain of foliage - not a problem for me & there was 'air con' as a substitute with windows shut. Breakfast well away from entrance, no noisy piped music. Breakfast variety good. Staff quickly clearing away or replenishing items. Morning newspapers to hand with a suitable sitting area where they could be read. Great place, good location, easy access to A167 & A1(M).
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Beautifully appointed rooms with super comfy beds with pillow selection.
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like
7,5 Good
Pros: Good location Comfortable rooms Good breakfast
Cons: We were in room 23 but there was a charity event right below making a lot of noise. We were allowed to move to a different room on the Friday night but should never have been allocated that room. Restaurant service slow and a bit chaotic
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We stopped off here on our way to Durham University to drop our daughter. It wouldn’t have been our first choice but we booked late and everywhere else was full. Having said that, it was a pleasant stay, and value for money. On arrival we were told one of our booked rooms was above the area where a wedding reception was being held and so it would be noisy. We were offered the option, for our daughter, of an extra bed in our room - a superior double - which we took, and there was no charge for a second room or the third person. The staff were very pleasant and helpful - we asked for extra towels and teabags and were presented with a whole pile of stuff. The breakfast was delicious and worth the money.
Cons: It would have been helpful to know about the noisy room in advance of our arrival (or a different room allocated) but at least the lovely receptionist warned us about it on arrival. The rooms are a little sparse but certainly not uncomfortable. We didn’t eat dinner in the Hotel so can’t comment on that, but the breakfast was very good.
7,5 Good
Pros: The location and the pleasant staff
6,3 Good
Cons: A loud boiler waking me up at 7.30am and the fact I was told they wouldn’t charge my card on file and they did on arrival without asking me or alerting me to the fact they’d done this. I rang down to reception for about 20minutes with no answer. Dissatisfied to say the least!

Pros: We thought the place was much better than we had expected. It was rated as 3 star but I’ve been in far worse 4 star places. The food here was exceptional and the service very professional. We would usually go elsewhere for meals but everything was that good we ate within the hotel. Lovely walks nearby and leisure facilities super with really good opening times.

Pros: Stayed here for partners 60th birthday. Lovely welcome, great big 4 poster room, comfy bed, big towels.
Cons: Only the fact that we went to the wrong place initially, there is another Hall Garth near Durham, the satnav sent us there!!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Such a comfortable room and bed. We were able to use the hotel facilities before check in and the late check out 11 was a real bonus.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hot tub was great and food in restaurant
Cons: Small bed
6,7 Good
Pros: The location, food and staff were fine, friendly and helpful. We were upgraded without asking as we had lights out in our bathroom. very accommodating staff.
Cons: Understandably the building is very old hall, but when guests are paying to stay, it becomes apparent that there are a lot of areas in great need of attention, i.e windows with gaps between glass and frame, paintwork needs touch up. some carpets especially in the restaurant need refitting and are positively dangerous as they are very uneven (not good for older people, who may be unsteady on their feet). The stables bar chesterfield sofas are disgustingly shabby. Such a shame for a once beautiful grand building.
6,3 Good
Pros: Pretty location and food was good.
Cons: Room was tiny, and so was “double” bed - I am 5foot6, and it was barely long enough! ? Extra short to fit in tiny room? Fire alarm went off at 1.30am - everybody had to wait at meeting point - not hotels fault, but no explanation or apology for inconvenience. Also, light on smoke alarm in bedroom flashed every 2 minutes all night, which added to disturbance. Staff just said that was normal. Needs resisting so not above the bed! Room also very dark - not enough lights and very dim bulbs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Splendid setting, easy to find, helpful staff and unbeatable value for money.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Dinner was fantastic
Cons: The room could have been cleaner and toilet seat was loose and door slammed when you tried to close it. Fire alarm went of 1.30am and staff was not very informative as well as guest from wedding was really taking over (some drunk and loud during night and at breakfast too many toward what restaurant could facilitate

Pros: The location was central and seemed quite pleasant. I wouldn't recommend it as a holiday destination but if you want to stay in the Darlington area then this is a superb place to stay. I arrived late and my husband even later but the staff were welcoming and helpful. Although we didn't have time to try the facilities, they looked good. The room was clean and well maintained.

6,0 Good
Pros: Lovely staff
Cons: Hotel is under a five year refurbishment but we weren't told this before we stayed. Rooms in West Wing very tired and run down. Leisure centre past it's best. Weeds on patio and rubbish stored down side of corridors.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The restraunt and the staff.
Cons: The room we were allocated was cramped and in a very tired condition. We used the spa and found the changing facilities again very tired and simply not up to standard. For example metal lockers which were rusty. The pool was likewise very tired. All in all a disappointing stay which was only saved by an excellent evening meal in the restraunt and polite friendly staff.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Location & decor of reception
Cons: Nowhere to buy a drink for room after 11pm in cash....room I stayed in (216) was averagely clean at the best...& the hallway was quite poorly clean & doors are quite old & beaten up....wasn’t very good value for money

Cons: Shower tiles could do with bleaching, but bathroom was clean aside from that.
7,9 Good
Pros: Lovely situation by the river.
Cons: Lighting in the room
4,2 Okay
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Our stay here was awful. The room was extremely dated and had cobwebs all all the walls. The shower was broken, the window was broken, there was no bath despite being told on the booking there was. The shower tray was all dismantled from the floor. We had another guest banging on our door at midnight then proceeded to swear at us for the tv being too loud - we could barely hear it ourselves. This was the worst stay I’ve experienced in a hotel and definitely will not be returning. We didn’t even stay for breakfast on the morning due to being so disappointed with our evening meal the night before.
7,5 Good
Pros: Beautiful location good breakfast
Cons: Needs some maintenance in some areas
6,7 Good
Pros: Food good
Cons: Road noise all night and staff moving furniture at 5 30 am. Two large parties in hotel (One a wedding one a dancing group) who seemed to use up the few staff to the detriment of the few casual residents.Ordered dinner for 7pm waitress appeared at 7 30 to take our order.

Crockery visibly dirty. I contacted the owner but never heard back from him. He was extremely helpfull prior to our arrival re: accsessing the flat/parking perhaps he hasn't visited the flat for a while..... it needs a deep clean

Pros: The kitchen was fully equipped which made it much easier to bring the food we wanted without the extra baggage. The tv was easy to use and wifi was good and easy to connect to. Only extra note to other is to take matches if you are going to use the cooker.
Cons: I found getting in was a little difficult but I emailed the owner and he called right away to help me, other than that I would definitely stay again.
