Rindou No Ie - Nikkō - Building

9,5 Excellent (423 reviews)
R1 045+
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great value , good location and wonderful service!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were beyond hospitable and offered to deliver our baggage to and from the train station. Even then, the walk was less than 15 minutes, a great way to start and end the day in such an idyllic place. In addition, the Japanese-style breakfast was very good and well worth it! The WiFi was fast, the room heating worked well, and room very clean. I would love to stay here again.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit chilly but not a problem at all!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It's great to sleep on tatami mats and take a bath in the furo. The price is hard to beat, and the owner is very friendly. The breakfast was delicious, and it's a short walk to Nikko Tobu station.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing japanese style breakfast. A unique, very hospitable lady introducing a homely atmosphere, a nice and helpful host who drove us with luggage to the station early in the morning.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Keiko and Shizuo almost treated me like their son! Very authentic Japanese inn feeling, really cool and a must-stay. He even drove me to and from dinner one night because it was really cold. They kept my room and the place sparkling clean, and I had every amenity I needed.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: warm welcome ,great japanese room style , great service ,will come again soon
Cons: none
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Real Ryokan home experience. Live in tatami room, sleep on futon beds, try Japanese breakfast (btw: inform host at least two days before your stay about breakfast)
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts (an old couple) are extremely friendly and helpful. They offered shuttle services (for guests and/or luggages) from the train stations. The room is authentic japanese style, very clean and cozy. Other areas in the house are also clean and well taken care of. You can buy beer or ice cream from the freezer in the house with resonable price. We did enjoy our stay at the place and would recommend to anyone.
Cons: It is in a quiet residential area, so make sure you get something to eat at the train station.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay with really friendly owners! The two hot spring baths were an absolute pleasure to look at and use and just perfect after a cold day walking about.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast super yummy and fresh...location very near to old town and easy find the restaurant ( Must self-drive)
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great, location was great (not stuck in the middle of the tourist area). There are enough things within walking distance so that a car wouldn't be needed, but renting a car certainly gives a lot more flexibility. The bathing facilities are quite nice. The staff is quite nice.
Cons: The in-room bathrooms are old and need updating (they are your typical 80s era prefabricated bathroom boxes). The bathrooms are also frigid cold during the winter since there is an exhaust that cannot be closed. The rooms themselves are fair to fine, but would be overall much nicer if the bathrooms were updated. The bathing facilities seem to be in heavy use during high season, so when the use indicator light turns off, you kind of need to make a mad dash before someone else enters (there are two private bathing rooms). Some sort of time limit might be good to implement, or scheduling system. Parking lot is teeny and make require tandem parking. Not sure if they hang onto keys if someone gets blocked in.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff, they were super friendly and the manager even offered us a ride to the temples. The onsen was great and also the food. We had a wonderful time.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: A good place to stay when visiting Nikko. It is close to the World Heritage temples and bean curd skin restaurants. The waterfall is about 30 mins away. The breakfast is excellent.
Cons: My tatami room was a little small for 4 people. The bathroom’s fan was not very strong and it didn’t remove the moisture fast enough.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Revage was beautiful and the staff were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff. We were even driven to the train station when we left. The Onsen was very nice and clean and availability was good. Very big breakfast consisting of a good mixture of Japanese and International food. We walked from the hotel to the temples (1,5km). As the bus stop for the bus to the mountain areas is close to the hotel we could even combine both in one (long) day.
Cons: Price was rather high due to National holiday and the bathroom/shower rather small, but the Onsen made up for it.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Private onsen rooms. Great staff. Nice yukatas. Was shuttled to the restaurant for dinner one night. Good value for the price.
Cons: The location is farther and buses do not very frequently in the evening. The pillows are hard but it seems to be common in Japan. The bathroom didn't have the Japanese toilet and since the bathroom is not heated the warm toilet seat would have been really nice.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing fresh quality food at Breakfast. Private onsen was great specially when you are not used to share with others. Space to have your own meals outside the room in the common area.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: They have a open fire in the main dining room for the winter and a piano (ask for use). Also, the private onsens are big enough for 3 - 5 people, it's super comfortable and there is an outdoor area. And most importantly, Kento-san and Kono-san are really welcoming. They ensured we knew where the great spots were and always had heatpacks ready for us before we went out.
Cons: There was really nothing we didn't really like about this awesome place! The bathroom was a bit small but very much the same throughout all of japan.

Cons: none.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and accommodating. It was an anniversary trip and they gave us complimentary house wine which was nice. The view from our room was great as it was right beside the river and the hanging bridge. It looked magical at night. The futons were really comfortable. We tried one of the private hot springs and for about 1000 yen for 45 minutes it was well worth it. The dinner was something else, the food just kept coming and we were so full after. Breakfast was mostly Japanese dishes and it was adequate.
Cons: Perhaps the location as it's a little far off from Central Nikko and requires different modes of transportation to get there but the resort is a destination in itself.

Pros: • Easy to spot the Inn thanks to the sign and the house color (orange-red). • Turtle Inn is close to the main attractions around that area: World Heritage Shrines and Temples of Nikko; Imperial Villa Memorial Park; Kanmangafuchi Abyss. • Kanmangafuchi Abyss was not in our itinerary. The Innkeeper suggested it, and we thought to give it a try. It was wonderful! It has a breathtaking waterfall, relaxing nature walk, pristine scenery and rows of Jizo stone statues. • Turtle Inn had little turtles all over the place, which was cute. We also got a chance to meet their dog.
Cons: • We stayed in a room on the ground floor. Movement and sounds of the guests from the 2nd floor were easily heard.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a stunning hotel that delivers a really first class experience - from the welcome on arrival, the superb room, onsen, and meals, to friendly and efficient departure. We really wished we had booked for 2 nights - as 1 night is too short! The evening meal was one of the best we had in Japan - and I really appreciated them tailoring the meal to accommodate allergy to fish/shell fish (contact them in advance ). Our room was a Japanese room with private outside bath - and we loved using it at night looking up at the stars. The location is excellent for walking to the shrines and temples - and there is a shuttle bus from the train station (times on hotel website).
Cons: Nothing at all!

Pros: The service is excellent. We arrived on a rainy day. The staff help us dry the shoes by the shoe dryer immediately. Very kindly service.
Cons: We ordered Japanese style and Western style breakfast in the morning. It is a little strange the Western breakfast was placed inside the Japanese tableware.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was fantastic! All of them were simply wonderful! Spacious room with a great view. A classical hotel with an onsen - very good quality. Close to the World Heritage sites.
Cons: It's a bit older, but it didn't disturb much.

For Onsen, there are indoor and outdoor bath with other facilities such as massage chair. Dinning is great. For breakfast, they provide 2 options, Japanese and Western style. For dinner, they serve tradition Japanese courses. Due to we are group of 4 thus all meals are served in private room. Hotel staffs are very nice and friendly. They provide the great service through our stay.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was tasty! The locatin was very close to the main shrines though it was an uphill walk (but the shrines are all on hills anyway so it doesn't mak much of a difference). It's also very close to another historically important gorge and shrine area which makes a nice morning walk. The staff let us park there after check-out so we could walk to the shrines, and gave recommendations for food and parking if we needed it. The indoor private bath is big enough for a few people and during daylight and evening there is a nice view of the river. The blankets and beds were soft, but the pillows were hard like they are in all of Japan it seems. But I slept very well! Overall, I was very hapily surprised here!
Cons: The pillow was a bit hard for me because I sleep on my side. Also, our room was on the first floor corner by the laundry and private bath, so we did hear a lot of walking and doors closing from above and beside us, but since most people there were quiet (and we were very tired) it was ok! Honestly I don't remember thinking that I particularily disliked anything too much.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: Too cold and small room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and cozy place to stay and very friendly staff. It's a bit of a walk from the main part of the town but I really likes the quiet area. The private onsen is fantastic! I'll definitely come back here.

Cons: Nothing. For the price it was perfect.

Pros: Mega convenient if using the train. Literally right across the street. The room itself was comfortable. Check in/check out was quick.
Cons: Staff was OK but not overly friendly. Also when I asked if I could use their printer for a legal document that I needed to print and sign (and was willing to pay for this service) one of the front desk agents said they had no printer (!) Hard to believe that a hotel did not have a printer on hand. Walked across the street to the Tourist Info office in the train station where the gentleman bent over backwards to help me out. Bathroom had a urine-like odor

Pros: The hotel is very walkable to all of the transportation in/around Nikko. Hotel staff speak enough English to do what needs to be done. The room was very nice. The hotel has restaurants of various types, which was great. Many locstions in Japan open late, so having breakfast early was a real plus. Dinner went until 8:30 -- also great for a busy sightseeing day. I dId not use the hotsprings, but it sounded nice. As a solo traveller, i found the amenities very convenient. Internet was good.
Cons: My room was a bit more expensive than I would otherwise have liked, but I think for the convenience it was worthwhile.

Pros: The Tokens Hotel is a gem in Nikko. An irreproachable service, very kind and very professional staff, they have all kinds of attention towards customers. The breakfast as well as dinner are really delicious moments and so tasty and well prepared. We will come back for sure.
Cons: Everything was perfect !
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very nice and the room was beautiful. The breakfasts and dinners were always different and excellent quality. The onsen was gorgeous. The location was very good; it was close to lots of the shrines and temples in Nikko.
Cons: It would have been nice to have more information about their shuttle bus that comes down to the train station, as we would have made use of it when arriving.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: the hotel is walking distance to the temples (the world heritage site). love the onsen and facilities.
Cons: a little bit far from the bus station. the room can be really cold (Stay during Winter).
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice meal, both dinner and breakfast
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location, size of the room, en-suite toilet room
Cons: Breakfast and dinner were not served in the room as it is the practice in many ryokans, dinner must be booked by 14:00 on the of arrival otherwise you need to find a place outside - but Nikko only offers limited opportunities after sunset (at least in the winter season)

Pros: The reception staff was very friendly, walked us to our room and explained the facilities available.
Cons: Location is quite inaccesible without own transport.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service (very helpful staff), delicious meal, and good onsen quality
Cons: this hotel beside the lake but can not see the lake view from the hotel
7,0 Good
Pros: 1. The location is ideal. In the woods away from the lake. This made the space quiet and peaceful. That's the best bit of the resort. 2. The sulphur onsen was good too. Great for the skin. 3. We had the last room right at the end so it was really quiet even when the hotel was full. 4. We enjoyed a really good sleep. The aircon was quiet when it was on and when off, I could open the porch door for fresh air.
Cons: 1. The lighting was too dark. 2. Struggled to get message across. They "could' understand English but somehow the message keeps coming out wrong. They do try though. Message mess up would happen with the food preferences. (we stayed there for 4 nights) and the housekeeping. 3. The housekeeping was really patchy. One day they just hung the towels in our door knob. 4. Food is boring. Especially after the third day. Repetitive menu and boring breakfast.
4,2 Okay
Cons: Our pains started with the shuttle bus: having arrived at Nikko JR station early, we've waited until 14:30 as indicated - when nobody came, I've called the hotel to ask about it so we would still have enough time to go to the Tobu Station. I was requested to call again as they couldn't find our reservation. When we did, they told us to wait about 20 minutes for the bus to pick us up. In the meanwhile, somebody else called and told us to take to Tobu bus to the hotel. I called the first person again to confirm and they told us to take the bus and call for a pick up at stop 33. We took the next bus, arrived at stop 33 and decided to walk the 200 m or so to the hotel. When we arrived, 2 hours later and sweaty (and almost 2.500¥ lighter) nobody asked anything or mentioned the issue with the shuttle. When my husband asked to make a formal complaint, they called the manager to accompany us to the room - still, no mentioned of the issue or an apology. When setting ourselves up in the room, the manager killed a spider on the tatami floor just in front of us (I killed two others latter on). There were stains in the tatami and on the paper covering the cupboards, as well as on the bathtub (we didn't dare to try it, as there was also no curtains). The kaiseki dinner was good, as was the breakfast, but, as my husband put it, "it was always at 75%, the ingredients were there but the care was not". The hotel was generally too removed from anything to allow walking anywhere, so we had to use the bus to move around. The next day, when returning from our sightseeing at nightfall, and as there are some wild monkeys on the park and some black bears had been sighted, we've called for a pick up from stop 33 when we were passing stop 29 (literally 3 minutes away) - we were told in a rude manner to call again when at stop 33. Not willing to make yet another international phone call, we walked uphill with another couple staying at the hotel.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was a feast! After that, we couldn't eat lunch, but as the keiseki dinner was served early, at 5.45pm, it was alright. The service was very, very good. We couldn't find the hotel's shuttle bus at the train station. Fortunately, hotel reception called me to find out why we hadn't boarded the bus yet. We would have missed the bus if the call didn't come.
Cons: No elevators! Lots of stairs! No English channel on TV. Not even CNN. Only Japanese channels.

Pros: The hotel is big and clean - spacious rooms with a view. Good breakfast. Beautiful surroundings a little far from the center of the town - so it is remote. Nice place alltogether and very friendly staff. no problems with parking a car.
7,5 Good
Pros: It was a good hotel given that it was in the province. It had an onsen onsite. Rooms were big. Breakfast was ok. Good for overnight.
Cons: Nothing that we didn't like.
6,7 Good
Pros: It has a large spacious room. Both the room and the bathroom were clean. The hotel is in a secluded part of the lake. Situated near the bus stop for the bus that runs from Nikko City.
Cons: The hotel didn't have much of a view as it was surrounded by trees. While accessible by bus (bus stop is about 100m from the hotel), it's best that you have a car as the area is far from many amenities. There are only two restaurants here. One is a formal French and the other is a day restaurant that's not in the hotel by 60-70m away by the main road.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: breakfast and dinner services were excellent
Cons: none
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were absolutely phenomenal. Very attentive when we arrived, guided us on things to do and best way to get there. However, they really shined when we entered a crisis. One of our trip mates fell I'll and was concerned enough we needed to get to the hospital. This was late at night and the staff went above and beyond to drive to the nearest open hospital in the shuttle, and the manager, Mr. Suziki, came out on his own time off to attend the hospital with us to ensure we had a translator to the doctors. He lives 2 hours away. I cannot recommend this hotel enough if even just for the incredible staff.
7,0 Good

Cons: Room is a bit small & carpet doesn’t seem clean
9,2 Excellent

Pros: The hosts were beyond hospitable and offered to deliver our baggage to and from the train station. Even then, the walk was less than 15 minutes, a great way to start and end the day in such an idyllic place. In addition, the Japanese-style breakfast was very good and well worth it! The WiFi was fast, the room heating worked well, and room very clean. I would love to stay here again.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit chilly but not a problem at all!
