The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay - Half Moon Bay - Building

9,1 Excellent (1 951 reviews)
R13 566+
Overview Reviews
When the surrounding area is rich with natural resources and beauty, luxury comes with a distinctly local touch. At The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, resort guests can savor the Northern California sunset on a beautiful evening; sample fine wines from vintners along the coast; craft s’mores over an open fire on their private terrace; discover the nourishing benefits of pumpkin at the spa or tee off on two championship golf courses that are as beautiful as they are well-designed. Holding court on a bluff overlooking the ocean, and just 20 miles from San Francisco International Airport, this secluded, hotel in California celebrates its surroundings with an experience rooted in the element of fire and the discovery of wine.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Jan was very accommodating. It was my girlfriend and my first year anniversary. I’m a Platinum member and they upgraded our room. Nicolas was great at taking care of our luggage and even waited for our room to be ready. He went above and beyond and gave us an extra bottle of
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: Nothing!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality and location
Cons: The front desk how helped me with the check in was awesome and great, I will definitely go back because of him. Thanks for taking care of us.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great view
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located right on the beach and is breath-taking. This is the Ritz-Carlton, so it is everything that you would expect. It is true that you get what you pay for! It is very LUXE and the staff is very attentive.
Cons: Can't imagine anything I could possibly complain about, except that it is NOT for those on a budget.
7,1 Good
Pros: The property is beautiful and the views are impressive
Cons: We had lots of issues that you would not expect when paying over $1,000/night for a room at the Ritz: (1) our room had a tiny sofa bed that barely fit one person but room on booking.com was sold as a 4-person room...my two daughters (5 and 6 year old) could not comfortably fit. They shouldn't sell that as a 4-person room but 3, even with kids. (2) to add to that, the sofa bed was not prepared (no sheets, pillow etc). We asked at reception and they promised they'd prepare that "and add an extra bed if that one was too small". It wasn't done. We called housekeeping again when back in room at 10:30pm and they said they'd come. They didn't and after 30 mins, we all fell asleep tired from the trip. I ended up sleeping on the bare mattress of the sofa bed while my family shared the double bed. Cold and uncomfortable night for $1,000. When complained the morning after reception gave a $300 credit but still.... (3) it was Mothers Day and they basically closed off two thirds of the restaurant for outsiders booking brunch. What it meant was that there was a crazy queue to get sat at breakfast. We waited 45mins and still were not sat!! At the same time they ran out of most food from the buffet. So we gave up and skipped breakfast rather than pay $50 per person after waiting one hour and not even get proper food. (4) lunch was the same story. No space anywhere. I had to beg the guy at the separate restaurant of the golf course (not a Ritz-managed restaurant) to squeeze us in their Mothers Day buffet lunch in between servings. So we managed to get a (rushed and overpriced) lunch at least Because of these failure in basic lodging needs (bed and food) at such a high price, I cannot rank this experience positively. I have stayed in several other Ritz properties around the world and have never had anything like this
8,2 Excellent
Pros: Ocean view room is beautiful and relaxing. Bed is very comfortable.
Cons: I could hear people talking on the hall way very clearly. Door closing feature can be improved so that it won't have a loud closing sound. I was surprised the cleaning lady came before the day of checking out. I brought a personal wine glass and put it on the table. The cleaning lady accidentally took it away. I mentioned to them but with no luck to get it back. That is to say, the management need improvements.
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: Location
Cons: - toilet needs replacing - waiters in restaurant need better training - wine list is extremely poor/we had to ask twice for it - wine glasses were wrong for the wine - no steak knife with dinner There is more, but I wouldn't waste money here again...
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous stay in a place in the wild and unspoiled nature and in a magnificent hotel in all senses
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Such a stunning property with spectacular staff and incredible amenities.
5,4 Okay
Pros: - excellent service - perfect food - nice place
Cons: Just the room. We were really disappointed with our suite. First, the location is not good: everybody can see us. Second, the bathroom (for a suite with such price) was really small: small shower, lack of space. And the sofa bed used by our daughter for sleeping was so uncomfortable...

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable and relaxing is what you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber. That it is.
Cons: However, they missed the mark having a few below average staff members not quit understanding they’re on an above average-to-better team.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is quite good. Nice to walk around the harbor.
Cons: Parking for the Inn was an issue (too many people parking there from the restaurant). The restaurant is really small. The bathroom at the Inn was disappointing, with really small sinks, not enough space to put your things and only one mirror.
7,5 Good
Pros: Being in walking distance to a lot
Cons: The bed was extremely hard . They had a wedding booked that we were by and didn’t get any sleep with the celebration went on until 2 am
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel Lobby was beautiful! Nice and sunny with a extremely large glass celling letting in the sunshine. Large warm fire and very nice decor also.
Cons: The furniture and couch pillows in our room were old and needed replacement. The fog horn blew every 20 seconds all day everyday making it hard to sleep. The hotel did however provide ear plugs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: View of Pillar Pointe Harbor from room and outside deck.
Cons: Lack of glass ware. Two at the bar, none in the bathroom.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Parking
Cons: They keep a 50 usd on you credit card for incidental. It seems to me not a good practice. No trust on their clients . You want to stay in a place where you are treated well. Management need to avoid such practices in having a incidental deposit on your credit card it look bad. NO trust on people .

Cons: Only thing I’d add as an option would be a microwave.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Best place I stayed this year, coming back for more next!!! Great people to be with and the room was very nice
8,0 Excellent
Pros: It's location. Nice Room. Aveda bath products.
Cons: The awful blaring sound of that stupid horn from the docks. Every 8 seconds around the clock? It detracted from the rest of the facilities. Probably wouldn't come back to this location because of it. Also, the "spa services" were extremely overpriced.

Cons: A fair distance from San Fran itself but very convenient to train station.

Pros: I liked that this space actually had clear separation in room usage with doors, unlike some other suite-style hotels. It helped delineate space and gave me and my toddler a bit of privacy and keep her on her sleep schedule.
Cons: While all the room features were up-to-date, the dish washer looked a bit sad. The walls seemed a bit thin and you could hear people walking throughout the halls and up and down the stairs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lots of space and amenities
Cons: Long stairs
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy rooms, good continental breakfast but in room 811 where I stayed there was a spider walking on the wall I understand why because of the wildness around the hotel, anyway I took pictures for it.

Pros: The room and facilities were excellent and great value for money compared to what you can get at neighbouring San Francisco. Inclusive breakfast was very good too with a good fruit selection and waffle-making station. Staff were very friendly. Even has free shuttle bus service to the airport. By far the best hotel we stayed at on our Californian road trip, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if visiting San Fran.
Cons: There wasn't a lift to take our luggage up to our room - all 6 cases up 2 flights! After having travelled a long way by car and it being dark at this point, a lift would have been much appreciated.

Pros: Clean! Attention to detail - a great experience
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location, tastefully remodeled of what was probably a dated old motel. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
Cons: The staff. The daytime staff acted like they were doing customers a favor - cold, gave one-word answers, and looked like they hated their job. Maybe they have a mean boss? (The night staff who checked me in was pleasant even if she wasn’t able to activate a keycard for me and had to let me in my room. She treated the other customers in the same pleasant manner.) Hopefully the unhappy staff will find their joy someday and share it!

With a carry on bag, you can’t really bring one in your luggage, so you would hope the hotel you’re staying at would have such a necessity! Needless to say, I had to apply my make up unable to really see what I was doing, so I’m pretty sure I must have looked like a clown! Lol Great first impression I’m must have caused at the job interview I was attending!

Pros: The breakfast was good.
Cons: The hotel hold total value in my card when we arrived. But in the middle of our dates, the hotel hold a new value with 70% total again. The explanation was terrible, and I couldn´t understand the explanation, and I´m afraid the hotel will charge the doble of the booking value. Just today, two days that finished my stay there my card is blocked with a wrong value total. I hope at the end all will be correct, but the form is wrong.

Pros: Older motel, but clean and updated. Nice exercise facility with pool/spa and the breakfast was ok.
Cons: The pool and spa were open at 8am closed at 10pm? Its a motel near the airport? After a long day traveling nothing better than pool/spa, nothing like starting the day with pool/spa, but we flew in late 1030pm and left by 8am? couldn't use them.

Pros: Good location and easy access to the airport. The wake up call was on time. The check out was efficient. The breakfast was open a little early. All of this made a good impression on me. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the bed was.
Cons: The atmosphere is a little too impersonal. This was especially true at breakfast. The person on duty was efficient but totally silent. There was no hello or eye contact. A little note on the bed from the cleaning person was also impersonal. The manager should be writing a welcome note.
