Pros: It’s a nice place with excellent staff, only thing almost all shops and store are close by 5pm. Gotta get there early to enjoy the city other the the stay
Cons: Surrounding area closed too early. I got there at 4 pm everything closed at 5 pm...

Pros: The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast was so tasty and presented so beautifully. The property is so zen and we loved our room with open air onsen bath with views of Mount Fuji. Our room was spacious!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A gracious and beautiful ryokan set in stunning gardens. Japanese formal hospitality and food at its best. Loved the private onsen on our verandah.
Cons: The rooms could have had more personality. The dining area had only a small papered window and a TV for decoration. A scroll would have added some ambiance. The sleeping area likewise could have done with decoration.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent experience and totally worth it. My wife and I were taking a trip to Japan and wanted the traditional Ryoken experience. The facilities were clean and simple, the staff was excellent and the food was fantastic. The onsen was very enjoyable. Beautiful area close to major Hakone transit nodes.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service! The ryokan has a beautiful small garden inside, with three onsens to try out. Room cast a great view over the lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. Both dinner and breakfast are outstanding. Stuffs provides really warm welcome, service, and farewell. This will be my choice for the next visit of Hakone definitely.

7,1 Good
Pros: Lots of space in the room. The balcony looked into the nice garden. We had a car so free parking space was great.
Cons: Can clearly see the hotel is a bit aged with some furniture wear and tears. Some of the corners/top surface had dust on it. The room was in a separate building to main reception so checking out was a bit of a trek if you had luggages.

Pros: I love everything about Fukuzumiro! Staying in a traditional ryokan was an incredible experience. All the staff were so welcoming and attentive. Cons: Nil
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I don't know where to begin. Our stay here was magical. From the view of the river to the natural onsens to our lovely host who made sure we had everything our hearts desired, this place is remarkable. We had breakfast and dinner and consider the food to be Michelin star quality (the dinner was literally our favorite meal in Japan). The traditional decor will transport you back in time and the location is easily accessible by train or bus and is also a quick walk to a nearby town. Side note, there is a great hike across the street sprinkled with shrines as you hike up to temple.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, Staff is fabolous! , The structure is ancient an full of story, You can really appreciate timeless attention to detail, dinner and breakfast in Japanese style was amazing!

7,0 Good
Pros: Food was AMAZING--probably the best part. Very kind staff.
Cons: The onsen were a bit disappointing--no view, somewhat dark. Didn't love that it was a shared toilet, though knew that in advance.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very unique experience! Food was great and our attendant was fabulous. Beautiful river view room-wouldn't change a thing. We will definitely be back!
Cons: Honestly, nothing. My partner had trouble finding the restrooms in the middle of the night-but he just wasn't paying attention to orientation very well ;)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing. The room was spacious and warm. There is a bus stop close by that goes to both the station and the lake.

7,0 Good
Pros: Their private onsen was amazing!
Cons: It is a reliable and standard hotel. I was expecting more of a boutique hotel. This is more like a Japanese Holiday Inn. It was also a bit pricey.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is very well kept, and all staff are very friendly and speak good English. The rooms are clean and the hotel shop has some nice, although pricey, souvenirs. The star of the hotel would have to be the private onsen. Though you have to pay an additional charge, It is amazing (I used the 3000 yen one, I forget the name), very clean, very beautiful (especially at night) and well worth it. Dinner and breakfast were both very good, and the service provided at meals was nice too. The food was a nice array of different Japanese cuisine and the layout of the dishes was done with a lot of attention to detail. You can truly see the dedication and commitment of the staff and the chefs. The hotel staff also contacted us via booking.com, and later telephone when I failed to respond in time to the message, asking to confirm if we have any special dietary requirements, such as allergies or vegetarianism. This was quite surprise to me as I have never experienced this in Japan before, and I applaud them for it.
Cons: Though the hotel experience is lovely, the value for money is a bit tight. Admittedly, this being Hakone I am led to wonder whether it is even possible to find a more reasonable place, and so it may be that this IS one of the better choices, but I have stayed in ryokan in other regions for less cost which are equally as nice. This is compounded by the fact that ryokan will usually only have the bare minimum of amenities/luxury in the rooms, since the focus is on the onsen and the food, but though the food here IS lovely I have stayed at ryokan which do better (more extensive, varied, and tasty) meals and though the private onsen is perhaps one of the best I have been to, you do need to pay an additional charge. It ends up being quite a difficult point of view. I think that if you're in Japan as a tourist for a short period of time, then perhaps this ryokan fits the bill (if you forgive the pun), especially when you consider the proximity, and relative ease of access, to Tokyo. However, if you are a longer resident in Japan, you could find better places, or at least places which are just as good for a cheaper price. Outside the Hakone region of course.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The food, service, and attention to detail was fantastic. Really large servings at both dinner and breakfast with a wide range of authentic cuisine. Room was very spacious, comfortable, and had everything we needed and more. Would highly recommend.
Cons: We liked everything. When we booked the private onsen close to our dinner time the staff could have warned us of how intense and long the meal would be, but otherwise no feedback. I would tell vegetarians to communicate with the staff beforehand to accommodate them as the meals had a lot of meats/veggies.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The place was amazing. I did the private onsen, which was very relaxing
Cons: My room was small and the view was on a terrace. The room before the onsen was also pretty small
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - Exceptional Service: The service was a massive shock to me. I decided to splurge on this hotel and was greeted with so much respect. Being escorted to my room from the lobby, and from the lobby to my dinner table was very shocking to me. They were very friendly as well, full of smiles and enthusiasm as they try to accommodate an English-speaking traveller. - Breakfast and Dinner: The bundle I bought came with breakfast and dinner which was one of my most memorable meals in Japan. A very traditional Japanese style, it was a literal explosion of flavour. The American folks I spoke to agreed and believe it was their best meal in Japan. The price was well worth it to have these meals. - Onsens: The private onsen they offered had a very relaxing atmosphere, seeping out all the mental and physical exhaustion from me. I was at first embarrassed to go to a public one so I ordered a private one but it was such an amazing experience, I just went to the public one. It was just as good as my private one, definitely an amazing onsen. - Location: There was various restaurants around this hotel which were great.
Cons: - Location: The location is a bit of a distance away from Gora Station.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The food, the staff and the Onsen are excellent and are strong assets which make this place a very comfortable place with a great value for the money. A special attention is put on the staff who accompany you all along of your stay, a perfect exemple of the Japanese service.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Right near a beautiful secluded shrine in forest setting. Mineral baths were so relaxing.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great traditional experience in a ryokan in the mountains near Mt Fuji. Very unique experience, with full traditional dinner and breakfast. An enjoyable and calming experience after the busyness of Tokyo.
Cons: Nothing - it was a great experience!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We loved the experience of staying at a typical Japanese ryokan. Half board highly recommended to sample the different foods on offer. The private onsen looking out onto a bamboo forest was brilliant. Outdoor and indoor public onsens & family onsen also. Easy access to the buses to travel around the Hakone region using the Hakone Freepass. We would stay again.

7,9 Good
Pros: The staff were exceptionally well-trained, polite, respectful, hospitable, and spoke good English. The kaiseki dinner as well as the breakfast were truly excellent.
Cons: The hot water plumbing took some time to warm up. The garden also didn’t seem to be in good shape in the off-season.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A nice getaway from the busy cities all the way up in the mountain! It’s also right next to a bus stop to take you to Lake Ashi and the shuttle can take you straight to Hakone Yumoto station of ya wanted to check other things out! This property is next to a beautiful river and simmering in a hot spring next to it is such a sight ❣️
Cons: It’s a little far from everything, but luckily the shuttle takes you straight there!
6,0 Good
Pros: Food was good, portion of serving is sufficient. Not bad in quality. Wash basin area had heated flooring.
Cons: Temperature of corridor to room was very cold. Sleeping room was sufficiently warm but living area was a bit cold during winter months. Hallway to indoor ONSEN, the lighting was too dim. ONSEN pool temperature was not enough warm. In-room bathroom has no hooks to hang the wet bathing towels.

Pros: We were looking for a ryokan or minshuku experience during our 2 weeks in Japan and the Fuji-Hakone Guesthouse exceeded our expectations. Friendly and attentive staff and owners, access to two private onsen on the premises, beautiful surroundings, fantastic room and comfortable futons, beautiful yukatas. Some reviewers commented on the hostel-style of this accommodation (i.e.; communal facilities such as kitchen, dining area, shared bathrooms) but that’s common for ryokans and the norm for minshuku... and very common in many parts of the world outside of North America. We didn’t find it inconvenient, despite traveling during the New Year high season, there were no wait to access the gender separate bathroom facilities. I enjoyed drinking tea in the evening in the eating area while planning the next day and chatting with the friendly owner. We didn’t take the optional breakfast - although it looked good - because it was a western-style breakfast and with only two weeks in Japan we preferred to eat fish, rice, and onigiri for breakfast (and western-style breakfast back home). We stayed two nights but I’d go back there for a week to re-energize in this peaceful guesthouse.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The proprietors have been open since 1984 and there is nothing they do not know about Hakone or travellers. Extremely helpful and pleasant with it. The location is spot on too, a minute from bus stop #250, which is the right end of town. Finally the onsen was unique in my experience, straight into a hot volcanic spring-water bath at the start and end of the day. It’s at the bottom of the stairs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly with very good English. Straight after check-in, provided full advice on where to go sightseeing, including public transport instructions and showing you everything on a map. Excellent recommendations on where to go for dinner.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was great
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a very relaxing and interesting stay. The room was spacious with a simple, beautiful and traditional Japanese style. Access to private hot springs, both inside and outside, was a very warm and pleasant experience! The breakfast is also recommend - simple but delicious and plentiful. The staff speaks English and was eager to provide information about the guesthouse and local sights and activities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our room because it was traditional Japanese style and very cosy. The communal facilities were just outside our room and the guest house was equipped with everything we needed. We also loved using the private indoor and outdoor onsen, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Although a bit far from Yumato Hakone, it is situated in a convenient location if one wants to visit the museums. There are several bus stops just outside the guest house so that is very convenient, especially since there is a bus that can take us directly to Gotemba Station. Also, there are a few restaurants just 5-10 minutes walk away, also a Lawson convenience store about 10 minutes walk away. Little Prince Museum is right next door. That is a real bonus for us.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: There was an English speaking staff. He clearly explained everything related to the facility and restaurants in the surrounding area. He was very kind and helpful. The facility has traditional-style rooms with futon and tatami floor. The bed was very comfortable. I stayed there on a cold winter day but there was a heater in the room therefore cold was not a problem. I loved the indoor private onsen which could be reserved for free each day for half an hour for each room. It was really comfortable and relaxing to use the private onsen. There is a convenience store 5 minutes walk from the guesthouse. Also, the Choanji temple, the Little prince museum and Lalique museum are 5-10 minutes walking distance. Venetian glass museum is also very close in walking distance. The guesthouse is very close to the bus stop therefore very easy to be reached. So the location is very convenient too. I think it is a very good value for its price. I definitely recommend it to everyone staying in Hakone.
Cons: Nothing. I loved everything about this place. I wish I stayed there again.

3,3 Mediocre
Pros: The only thing I liked is the fact that it is in front of the train station.

7,5 Good
Pros: Nice garden and helpful staffs. When the sky is clear, you can see Mount Fuji. We were lucky to have beautiful weather upon arrival, and the view was magnificent!!!
Cons: The dinner at the Japanese restaurant was so so. Breakfast was okay. While I reading in bed, two tiny bugs from nowhere dropped on my blanket. So after I removed them, I had to turn off light and slept earlier.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptionally large rooms, superb onsen facility inside the building, gorgeous views of Lake Ashi and live evening piano bar
Cons: The cocktails and drinks were incredibly strong...lady might benefit from quick training.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: One of the most beautiful places and hotels we have stayed at, everything was so Devine and the staff were tremendous.
Cons: Nothing, all was top rate
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Special historical hotel next to the Lake Ashinoko. Close to the Hakone Shrine, hiking trails and Hakone Sightseeing Cruise to ropeway. You can see a magnificent view of Mt Fuji on a clear day from the garden. Obviously, the garden is much prettier when it blooms but you are in a beautiful forest area with manicured gardens. Only a short bus trip away to special museums. There is a nice little gift shop at the venue with Hakone goods. Shuttle Bus takes you to the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise wharf area and bus station so it is very convenient. With amazing views of the area. I felt like I had stepped back in time at this hotel to last century and seen the Japanese Western themed resort holiday experience. The hotel had lovely old Christmas decorations as well. It was very much old forest hotel lodge with a Japanese aesthetic.
Cons: The food is Japanese style western food or traditional Japanese Food. It was interesting to try but a little more variety would be helpful with children. The local bus takes some time to get to the main train station but the winding, hill bus ride was quite amusing. Bring your Suica card or Hakone Pass as the bus coin system is difficult for multiple tickets.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel de Yama is very good located, directly by lake Ashi, and near by famours"Hakone Shrine", walk way about 8 min. Very friendly staffes, elegante decorations. The hot-spring is just wonderful, I'v enjoyed the forest view while bath. We had a room with lake view, it was fantastic. Next time we will still choose Hotel de Yama.

Pros: Good location, authentic experience. Staff very friendly.
Cons: Slight complaint, hotel was little on the older side. Rooms showing a little ware and tear. Otherwise nice.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Overall the experience is great.
Cons: The tatami is not so comfortable for sitting, but it is not a problem of the hotel. Moreover, the Japanese-style breakfast does not match my appetite well.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: This was my first Ryokan experience and it was incredible. The Onsen experiences I had were magical. I would return for them again. Clean and beautiful. The sound of the river rushing by made a lovely soundtrack to our time there. The breakfast experience was also a highlight of our time there. Location was. 2 minute walk from the Romance car train station. I would highly recommend this Ryokan and taking some time to make a trip out of Tokyo to explore Hakone.
Cons: The room was very warm in the middle of the night. It was our fault for not turning on the air conditioning. It is available.
6,0 Good
Pros: Great location, super close to the station and down town. Staff were very friendly and incredibly attentive.
Cons: Me and partner chose to have meals included. We were not asked dietary requirements and as a result were unfortunatly unable to eat most of the food. The view from the private onsen in our room was largely obscured by the privacy sceen so we mainly just saw wooden slats. Pretty overpriced for what it was- did not match up to the pictures at all.

Pros: Dinner menu and service was great!
Cons: Property is tired and looks worn for $400/night we expected more. investment is required; Carpet replacement and paint at a minimum. Coffee and tea at breakfast was at extra charge and not included; sparse amenity space had a couple of plastic wrapped massage chairs and a ping pong table, also at extra charge. The private hot spring outdoor onsen was lovely, 30 minutes use was included in the cost of the reservation, but no towel provided other than room towel.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, plenty of interesting and tasty food and or course the Onsen. Great! Also very convenient location. Maybe a bit pricey, but that's what you have to expect in Hakone. Would love to stay again!

Pros: Staff were exceptionally responsive and helpful (even with some having limited English), food was extremely generous in serving size and the room was sizeable and beds comfortable.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast were excellent. Private time in open air onsen was nice.
Cons: Facilities a bit dated.
6,7 Good
Pros: The staff were super helpful. Our needs were anticipated and everything was done with a smile. The food was really good. Great tasting and fresh. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing. The room was very comfortable and relaxing. The private bath was very relaxing and everybody enjoyed it.
Cons: Everything has a cost. Even the table tennis table which is permanently available costs money to use. For a place I'm spending so much money to stay, I would have thought a cup of coffee in the morning should be included. It just left me with a bad feeling.

Cons: Our room STUNK like mold. We had to keep the windows open and blast the heat. This still didn't mask the smell. Everything was old and in disrepair. The beds were so hard to sleep on, we piled up extra mats and still could not sleep. The food was not good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very nice and they make an effort to make themselves understood because they dont speak english. Dinner and breakfast are an opportunity to try food that you might not taste.
Cons: Outdoor hotsprings is not included
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great experience. Everything was clean. The personnel were very attentive. I loved the dinner at the room and enjoyed the breakfast in a strange kind of way. The views from the room are beautiful. I highly recommend the outside private onsen. Great experience in general. I highly recommend it.
Cons: The river that runs outside is loud. I have no problem with it, but it may be an issue for some. Traditional Japanese breakfast is not for everyone. If you are not into having fish and soup at breakfast, take something to eat or simply skip the meal. The hotel in general needs an update in decoration, but again, not an issue for me.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Really fantastic onsen with two private onsens including one outside near the river. Totally luxurious.
Cons: The decor is a little tired and the lighting in the room is quite bright for the evening - but overall it was very good value given how good the onsens were and how nice the staff were.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The meals were huge! You have one person who brings both breakfast and dinner to your room. She was amazing, She patiently pointed out what each dish was and even used her phone to translate words she didn't know to English for us. Lots of seafood, vegetables, tofu, and shabu shabu. The room was spacious and actually consisted of a main room and then a sitting room with balcony overlooking the river. The view was spectacular. Service was A+ from the moment you arrive until your departure. They always greeted us and helped us carry our bags and get the local bus. Please pay extra to reserve the private outdoor onsen. You cross a bridge to get there, and it's in a beautiful secluded spot. Worth every penny! The other onsen were great too, but this was our favorite.

Pros: Dinner and breakfast was tasty. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean.
Cons: Location was a little further down from Hakone Yumoto station, need to take the bus to reach Shiunso.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were amazed at the size of the room and our view from the balcony. The food was so, so special and the staff did well to try and accommodate our dietary requirements and explain all the aspects of the meals to us. The staff don’t speak a lot of English but were exceptionally friendly and helpful so this wasn’t an issue. They even held our bags for us after check-in despite being closed that day. The outdoor bath was also so lovely and relaxing. What a treat. Highly recommend and would stay here again

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room and private onsen were beyond any expectations. Our dinner server in our private dining room in our room was Tomako "Tom" and he was exceptional. His english was fantastic and he explained each dish with such passion and excitement! Both the dinner and breakfast were amazing!! An experience we will not forget!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, very private, great food, very comfortable
6,3 Good
Cons: Over head shower wasn't spraying water out correctly. It was rainy and the outdoor chairs were getting wet because the overhead glass covering was leaking. Small maintenance that needs to be completed for the price point paid.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really beautiful. Incredibly relaxing. Staff was very kind and personable.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The Ryokan is located in a good position, very closed to bus stop and a supermarket is nearby. Hot bath with nice view is of course the most unforgettable part. We had a wonderful stay here.
7,0 Good
Pros: The staff and service were fantastic, very relaxing stay.
Cons: Everything was great, staff were amazing but the facilities are needing some fresh renovations, it is a lot of money so I was expecting a bit more. Saying that there was a typhoon recently so they can be forgiven for some of the outside areas being somewhat untidy. The onsen was also 49 degrees C so a little too hot for comfort, again this might be as we are not used to it.

Pros: Beautiful location, friendly staff, free shuttle service to and from station, and to Motohakone. Awesome onsen!
Cons: Although free shuttle bus to town is great, the first one doesn’t leave until 11am, so you can’t set off early. There is a normal bus, but you have to pay (not covered by Hakone pass).

Pros: Everything else. Spacious rooms and Onsen

Pros: We felt very well taken care of throughout the whole experience. It was nice having one staff member as our point of contact and she was the sweetest woman who made sure our stay was the best it could be. The views of the hotel and the surround town are amazing and we had such a refreshing visit during our trip to Japan. Definitely worth taking the trip to Hakone for this place!
Cons: There really wasn't anything we didn't like. We chose to walk to the location from the station and it wasn't too much of a hike. The location is easy to find and exceptionally staffed. The view and tranquility could not be beat!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic stay at this gorgeous, peaceful ryokan. The staff are absolutely wonderful, very warm and welcoming—meeting them was one of the best parts of our trip. The food was delicious and presentation of both dinner and breakfast was spectacular. The room was beautifully renovated as a private oasis. Highly, highly recommend a stay here!

Pros: Room was incredibly nice and spacious, with hot tub outside - which was the highlight. Service was impeccable.
Cons: The hotel sits a 10-12 min walk from "downtown" Hakone, and a 45 min train ride from Gora.

5,8 Okay
Pros: We liked that it was quiet and relaxing. The Japanese style rooms were spacious and the food (which you have to order in advance) was good too.
Cons: Big language barrier for tourists. Some staff were kind to explain by translating using a device, but one personnel like Ms. Y. Sato was very impolite, and more like angry when trying to communicate.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan type of hotel, the kimonos for the guests, the breakfast and dinner. The shuttle from the hotel to the railway station, town.
Cons: A bit outdated hotel but still with charm.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location, I loved also the design of the hotel. Very clean.
Cons: Expensive, but so are the other hotels in the area. We were traveling with kids and they didn’t give them any food (we have been told to share our meals with them). For 500$ a night I would have expected at baby meal for the kids.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The place is big and quiet and the food is great.
Cons: Should give clear direction of which bus that arrives at the nearest bus stop (with bus stop name) that could get on hotel shuttle service.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The place is very serene and it’s amazing place to enjoy our honeymoon.
Cons: The place shows some age, may require a bit maintenance.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality was splendid.
Cons: The location is quite far from public transport.

Pros: Everything is perfect except the location but there’s a free shuttle bus service be provided 1 time a day from/to Odawara Station. The staff is amazing!
Cons: Nothing particular
