Food appalling, hotel itself in disrepair. Hasn't had a penny soebd on it since the 50s I'd say. I get "rustic" and "historic" but there were holes in the f*ucking walls!
The rest of the staff was really kind and tried to help us enjoy the maximum
Check in and check out people were no kind just polite.
The Japanese Style room with the private onsen was wonderful. I thought that the shower being outside would bother me but it actually added to the experience. The onsen/shower area was completely private. The room was big. The Dinner was amazing. The staff were extremely nice and helpful.
The hotel needs some updating but considering the age of the building it makes sense.
Lovely ryokan conveniently located with a bus stop right outside. Staff very friendly and some speak and understand English so no communication problems. We stayed in a room with its own private open air bath as my partner has tattoos so couldn’t use the main communal baths. The mains baths are open all night though so guests can make use of them as often as they like. Highlight was definitely the kaiseki dinner which was delightful and the traditional breakfast was also beautifully presented although might not be to a westerners taste. Highly recommend this ryokan to anyone that wants to experience a night in a traditional Japanese inn.
We splurged and went for the private onsen, which was amazing! The beds were surprisingly comfortable and you really get that traditional ryokan experience. While only some of the staff spoke English, all staff members were polite and pleasant to interact with.
Wifi was only in the lobby and the common room right next to it.
