9,3 Excellent
Pros: Our host, Luis, was super attentive and flexible. The overall atmosphere is super cozy with wood and art everywhere. Green Backyard is also a great feature.
Cons: Breakfast is continental - so OK at most. The cost is also a bit high, room had street view and the location is about a 10 minute walk from the historic area restaurants. But again Luis was awesome and decoration is awesome as well.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: It is charming, well situated and extremely clean. The apartments each have a kitchenette and lovely artwork.
Cons: The price for breakfast of 20.00 per person, for a continental breakfast is too high and so we declined it. It’s easy to get coffee and croissants a block or two away.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the space. Cool layout . Easily accessible to the town. Really enjoyable
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Meticulously clean large character filled room within easy walking distance from the terminals and the old city. Fantastic host Luis meet every need and planned a great day trip to Carmelo wineries. Superb!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The artful design, layout and decoration of the suite and the common areas was wonderful. It stimulated the senses and the mind. Plus everything worked..TV, wifi, hot water, kitchenette with coffee and tea options; all the amenities seems to have the traveller in mind. Breakfast was great and could be eaten in the garden or inside. I would be happy just living in that space! Location was also convenient, and parking was available in front of the hotel.
Cons: Nothing.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great atmosphere.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit overpriced.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I do not have the words to describe how lovely this stay in Colonias was for me!! I am already plotting how to build and recreate this exact place on our land in Hawaii. From the moment that I arrived, the experience that Luis had created was perfect in every way. I had just come from a hectic visit to Buenos Aires, and my stay here calmed and nourished my soul. It was quiet, beautiful, relaxing, lovely in asthetics, and spotless. I felt safe while I stayed here, and rested when I left. Luis greeted me warmly, and made me feel like a friend who would be missed at my departure. As if Colonia itself was not enough, I am already dreaming of returning just so I can stay here. There is no other place to book in Colonia- of this I am certain. I've stayed in many places across the globe and this will always be one of my favorites and very dear to my heart. One of a kind!
Cons: There is absolutely nothing I would change or wish for- except to stay longer.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Property is in a great location, very close to the historical centre, the ferry terminal and the bus station if coming from Montevideo. The rooms are huge with quite a lot of character and attention to details. I will definetely stay again.
Cons: No complaints

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. Very beautiful place, staff professional and friendly. The bistro is definitely the best restaurant in Colonia.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The historicity. The style. The wonderful restaurant. The robes and slippers. The 10% discount in the bistro.
Cons: $3 USD for each in-room espresso pod.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and bistro have beautiful views of the river and a lovely bar set in landscaped gardens. Our room was stylish and although a “street view” we could just see the river and the streets are very quiet in the old quarter. We dined in the bistro both nights as the food was excellent and only a bit more expensive than other restaurants we checked out. We used the hotel’s free bikes to explore around the bay and beaches as well as the historic area around the hotel.
Cons: In such a lovely hotel it was disappointing to find that the coffee capsules in the room were USD 3 each to make yourself a cup of coffee (we didn’t!) and the small waters in the minibar was USD 6 each (not obvious until we read the room service menu)!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Yes and yes!
Cons: Bathroom sink too small and no counter space.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I became sick while on my way to Colonia and ended up staying longer than planned at Charco. They were AMAZING, arranging for me to stay in the same room, sending special meals from room service, and sending a doctor at no charge to check on me. It was so wonderful to be so well cared for so far from home. Once I was well enough to explore, the town is adorable and Charco is in a perfect location to explore on foot. The food in the restaurant is insanely good as well!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. It is simply perfect. The food is particularly memorable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in the historical district of Colonia, so everything you want to visit is a few minutes by walk of it, which is great. We stayed in one of the 'white rooms' (no. 6). It's not a big room, but was clean, comfortable and had none of the problems that were mentioned in an earlier comment, so I guess they took care of fixing them. The breakfast is served in the bistro, with a beautiful view of the river, which is no more than 20 meters from the hotel. We also enjoyed dinner there and I'd recommend it if you want to have a pleasant night. The staff was really nice and helpful.
Cons: Can't say that we disliked anything of the hotel, honestly.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location to explore colonia, lovely restaurant by the water with very good food and beautiful decorated. Free bikes were great too.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay. Very to close to everything.
7,0 Good
Pros: Room was lovely. Restaurant good. Excellent location.
Cons: The room cost US$ 400 per night but that did not include drinking water which was charged at US$ 5 and coffee at US $3 each, with no creamer provided. Check in was fine but our check out experience was poor. The gentleman at reception bordered on being rude. No help with luggage was offered at check in or check out. I feel that the property is overpriced for the service offered.

9,3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic welcome to a nicely electric house. Lots of areas to unwind and enjoy the house, gardens and pool.
4,3 Okay
Pros: Dinner was excellent. I got the impression they were running on a shoestring, seemed short of help.
Cons: Our room was awful. Tiny, crowded with an enormous, useless old wardrobe and double bed, we asked for twins., Difficult and unsafe access, no TV, no phone. No wifi in there. It did have air conditioning and reasonable bedside lights. It is a way out of Colonia and Waze gave up on us, so we asked the locals who were vague.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: An amazing cozy house a few km outside Colonia in a beautiful setting. Lots of trees, plants and beautiful swimming pool! Very friendly owner; simply we loved it!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous place to stay. Our room was very spacious, we booked a triple. The view of gardens, pool and lime groves was sublime. The bed was comfy and the shower was hot with a rain forest type shower head. The people were very nice, we managed to communicate with our limited Spanish. They even provided a ride to the bus station at no cost to us. We were charmed by the whole place. Also wonderful art and antiques. Breakfast was good with fresh cooked eggs, fruit, cheeses, and much more.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The grounds and house were amazing. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. Service was very good.
Cons: 1. The owners are not compliaing with foreign tax rebates. Uruguay offers tax benefits (14-18%) for travelers when you pay with credit card and such were not available at the stay. 2. It was hard to sleep at night due to doors and windows left open in the adjacent vacant rooms. They were opening and slamming shut all night. It was extremely loud and made for a bad night sleep.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The place is terrific . The house is very nice decorated - also with paintings of the owner. You can walk around the lemon trees and outside as well until you see the Rio de Plata. It is very close to Colonia del Sacramento.
Cons: n.a.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff and service is great!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is so beautiful! The surroundings are magical. (The photos don’t do them justice.) The attention from the owners and staff was incredible. The space is perfectly clean, and the details of the house and nature makes this for the perfect place to disconnect and recharge. Can’t wait to come back. Hermosísimo lugar!!!

Overview Reviews
A stay at Posada del Virrey places you in the heart of Colonia del Sacramento, steps from Spanish Museum and Colonia del Sacramento Aquarium. Featured amenities include a computer station and a 24-hour front desk.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location in the center is very nice. It’s an old house, and that has a nice charm to it. Value is pretty solid. Good breakfast.
Cons: Staff are not friendly, except to a few certain people. (I got the feeling they are regulars.) Certain rooms are amazing (sea view, etc), while others are weird - two of them have open windows into reception, for example, which is a bit awkward. I think your experience will vary enormously depending on which room you end up in.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, in a fantastic location near the old quay right in the centre of the historic centre. The room was comfortable with a bit of a view of the river and a small balcony. The building was once a grand old house and had a very authentic colonial feel to it. Breakfast was fine.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is the greatest advantage of this place. Close to all major sights and restaurants. It is historic building, reasonably well kept. Those who love authentic experience of 19th century, would enjoy it. Bed was really comfortable.
Cons: Facilities in the room are basic, outdated toilet system and very noisy. Breakfast was very very thin, even eggs were missing, although everything what's served was of good quality.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The setting is beautiful. There is a lovely communal lounge and location is perfect
Cons: My room was very small
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We booked this hotel for its location in historic Colonia - it sure is. But also quiet and tranquil. Definitely recommend.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast and hot showers
Cons: Not much view from the room
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Really stylish and authentic building. Every single thing was chosen with taste. Lovely breakfast with fresh and tasty products.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, clean and quiet room, nice breakfast, helpful staff.
Cons: Everything was very well.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The room was large and comfortable with lovely furnishings, a balcony, and a view of the ocean. Breakfast was also good, and in a lovely colonial room.
Cons: The only issue was a long argument with the manager to get the room with a view we had purchased, which was only resolved when we said we were leaving, and a nice room magically became available.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: When you first walk in, you seem as if you are stepping into a movie scene. The building is absolutely stunning and so charming. The staff was helpful and kind, and the bed was insanely comfortable. Great location, close to the water and walking distance to every gem of the old city. Highly recommend!
Cons: Nothing!

Cons: Ventilation in room could be better when using the showers.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: All good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, balconies, patio and roof terrace, friendly and comfortable.
Cons: Nothing!
6,8 Good
Pros: The location is fantastic! It’s right across from the river and next to the historic part of the city. The staff is also friendly, like most Uruguayans are!
Cons: The photos are misleading — the hotel/hostel definitely needs some updating. The curtains were dirty and the room generally smelled like toilet without the heating unit pumping in ‘fresh’ air. Breakfast was okay, but the coffee and eggs were clearly old and/or stale. The value for the money is okay in Colonia, since hostels/hotels are generally a bit pricier than places like Montevideo or Buenos Aires — but I was disappointed based off the photos.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked that there was a nice breakfast included, and that we could buy bottles of wine. Also there was a nice terrace on the roof, and we could rent bikes.
Cons: I didn't like that there was no mini fridge on the room, and the rooms were not cleaned in between, as in, the beds weren't made, or towels changed.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and room, also the environment was great and quiet
Cons: Very suitable, nice people
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is grat, breakfast fine, nice place and very clean.

There are a nice balcony on the roof where you can sit and relax and look out on the river. It is in walking distance from the Buquebus terminal, the historic part of Colonial, shops and restaurants. A very good breakfast are served in the morning with good Coffey. Security at he front door are very good. Just keep in mind that yoh have to use steps...but is is not a lot and easy to climed. Good wifi in all pleces. I can recommend this place to every person.
Cons: All was good.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, only 5 minutes from the bus station and ferry port. Only a few minutes from the old town and plenty of restaurants. Staff where warm and welcoming.

9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is great. Near the bus and ferry terminal (6 minutes walk). It is also close to the places of interest (all within walking distance). They accept credit card which makes it convenient. There is a mini-mart nearby. The breakfast is coffee, orange juice, and pastries and bread. Nothing fantastic but not bad either. The hotel has various types of rooms. The one I was put in has a queen/full bed and two bunk beds. Good for families. The outlets in the room charge American, European, and Argentinian plugs. No need to buy adapters. Good hot water for showers!
Cons: Water flow was low but okay. The bathroom is functional, just needs an update. The sink stopper, once pressed in cannot be popped out.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Angel is a very kind person who makes you feel welcome! The property is very well located and the building is quite new... the bedroom is comfortable, clean and warm, but could be renovated, especially the bathroom.
Cons: The breakfast wasn't what I was expecting, but it wasn´t bad. The bathroom is old fashion and could be renovated, but all the other stuff overcome these things, as the location and the staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Charming posada. I had a pretty bedroom overlooking the pool and garden. Very warm welcome in arrival. Comfortable clean bed. Even privided breakfast when I had to leave at 0500 one morning. Pretty public lounge area upstairs.
Cons: Only complaint ... towels a wee bit thin but that seems to be the case often in South America.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Close to ferry and bus terminal/tourist office. Great selection of BA s and restaurants within 10 mins walk. Pretty riverbank walk nearby. Small but nice pool area.
Cons: It was great but no bar
5,8 Okay
Pros: Beds were comfortable.
Cons: We were very disappointed in the quality of this hotel and feel misled by the positive reviews. Our room was shabby and not very clean. Mold in the shower. Many things were broken. Breakfast is meager. Straight out of the refrigerator. No eggs or protein. No one speaks even a tiny bit of English so there is no travelers help or recommendations. There are 65 hotels in Colonia - you can do better!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Nicely served breakfast, homemade style, very friendly and helpful reception desk, this place maybe is not the most modern, but definitely has its own charm! Would recommend to the travellers

8,0 Excellent
Pros: We booked this hotel twice. The location was great and the pool and spa were handy on a hot day.
Cons: Breakfast was ordinary with no eggs, fruit or anything healthy eg plain yogurt, healthy cereal etc. On our first stay the room stunk of smoke and we were told all the rooms were the same because smoking was allowed in the rooms, which we think is terrible. The wifi signal was non existent. Our second stay the room didn’t smell so bad, but the air con stopped with a power issue and was fixed quickly. There is no hairdryer in the rooms, so you have to request one. There are also no plugs in the room easy to reach to charge phones - we had to connect an adapter to the back of the tv. The rooms have seen better days and need renovation.

Pros: Friendly staff at the reception. Hotel is located close by ferry and bus terminal.
Cons: Breakfast is very basic. The better restaurants are in the old town, walking back in the dark is a bit of a challenge (few streetlights and bad pavement).

Pros: The room smell good and was very clean. The sheets were soft, and the bed had good cushion. The hotel was old but was with good maintenance and in constant renovations. The breakfast was complete, it had fruits, bread, yoghurt, cereals, croissants.
Cons: The wifi didnt work in the rooms, we told the receptionist, and he told us that maybe it wass a problem with our cellphones, and we had to restart our mobiles, but it didn’t work. We had good wifi in the lobby and the place that we ate breakfast, but not in the room.

Pros: Very good breakfast and very kind personnel.
Cons: Bathroom didn´t have any shampoo or soap for shower. Only soap for hands. I didn´t bring any shampoo expecting a 3 star hotel to provide some...
9,5 Excellent
Pros: the hotel is nice. very basic but very clean, everything works well in the room. good bed and big LED TV with cable in the room. the only thing that isnt great is the breakfast, very basic. staff is amazing.
Cons: could improve in the breakfast, more options.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Walkable, but out of the center of town. Friendly staff. Clean, everything worked (although neither pillows nor towels were fluffy). No street noise. Nice o.j. at breakfast, but no protein.
Cons: Could have used an extra blanket. Voices from people in the (uncarpeted) hallways were loud. Strange view from Room 203: half was the room across from us; half was the River.
4,5 Okay
Pros: Lovely friendly hostess, hotel was clean.
Cons: Very basic, apart from the fresh orange juice breakfast was poor, coffee undrinkable. The location is not central. The front door was always kept locked which is not a good indication of safety in the town.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly staff. Pretty good location - could walk to Barrio Histotico and the Rambla. Breakfast was excellent. Really hot water in shower.
Cons: Lots of street noise. Room number 1 is right next to reception and is very noisy. No soundproofing.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The room was OKwith nice spaciouse bathroom. The lady from the reception Elisa was very nice and offered us a QUAD instead od TRPL, so we have more space for our luggage. Hotel is very clean and well mantained. It is just 10 min walking to the ferry terminal (ferry to Buenos Aires) so we walked on foot there. Old Town is 15 min walking and the nearest beach just 10 min. So very conveniente location for those who want to explore Colonia de Sacramento in full.
Cons: Breakfast consists of sweet rolls and jam. If you eat it all you should not be hungry, but if you search for real breakfast with sth heavier, that's not this place.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly. Everything was clean and comfortable. Had overall a great stay there!

Pros: This is the third time we stayed at the Costa Colonia. I keep coming to it because of the friendliness of its staff, the cleanliness of the rooms - which are spacious are with great views of the river bay -, its breakfast, and the pool and spa services - including an excellent dry sauna. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the city, which the hotel is located only a half an hour walk from the old city centre (definitely worth visiting). Also, its restaurant is excellent - Morena -, with great value for money and plenty of options to choose from. Definitely recommend it and will continue to stay in it.

Pros: The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, the swimming pool is great and the food was extremely good. My father left his jacket in the wardrobe and the staff could not have been more helpful. They arranged for it to be sent to Montevideo which was so kind of them. They had been most kind and helpful during our stay but I felt they really went out of their way for us when this happened and we are extremely grateful to them for reuniting my father (aged 89!) with his jacket.

Cons: American in the next room shouting in his room from 5am and staff were unwilling to help with the matter. This resulted in me getting very little sleep. Hotel itself is lovely
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, wonderful staff and facilities, WiFi, heated pool and jacuzzi, let us check out later than normal, spacious rooms, nothing was a problem. Make sure you get a river room, well worth the extra cost to sit out on your balcony.
Cons: Everything was perfect
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is good, the view is excellent. Staff was helpful enough.
Cons: In the room everything is pretty old and need renovation. We didn’t find bathrobes and sleepers (which must be in all rooms in 5 stars hotel). We also didn’t have minibar, only complementary water. Breakfast was ok, but could be much better for 5 stars hotel. So, this is Uruguay, don’t wait Radisson like in Europe.

Cons: The sauna area is small
7,0 Good
Pros: The hotel is comfortable and well located. The bedrooms are big and well equipped. The staff is helpful.
Cons: The rate includes a meal, lunch or dinner, besides the breakfast. It could be helpful if there weren't a lot of restaurants near the hotel. I would prefer to pay less for the hosting and not have the meal included. The waiters are attentive, but the food is not very good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good food, good beds, good service, good location near historic town.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Nice and large good balcony overlooking the pool. Nice indoor pool, outside one was a little cold.
Cons: Breakfast was poor.

Cons: There is no english speakers at this pseudo 5 star hotel
5,5 Okay
Pros: Most staff were nice and helpful.
Cons: Birds nesting on room roof, noisy and unpleasant, moved room twice. Also the first room has a dirty bathroom floor, toilet was leaking. 3rd and final room was OK, but this is not a 5 star hotel.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly stuff and with Google translater it's able to fix issues. Room big and mattress are comfortable. Small variety of menue for lunch and dinner are good.
Cons: Pool area and same aren't in good shape. Breakfast are not a 5* level breakfast. Nobody speaks English.
7,0 Good
Pros: Bed
Cons: Very poor service. Rude staff. Breakfast with no healthy food at all. No desire to serve us better. Staff does not speak English at all.
4,5 Okay
Cons: Dirty hand print on bathroom door, towel rack fell off when drying hands, electricity didn't work at first, reception staff unable to give me receipt for the bill, reception staff didn't speak English, no information in room about spa treat meets, no room service, no tea/cofee making facilities in room.
6,3 Good
Pros: I stayed here because of the swimming pools. The outside pool was a good size for swimming and in January the temperature was good. (The indoor heated pool was much smaller and always filled with children, so no good for a proper swim). The spa staff were friendly and I had two very good massages. The restaurant staff were super friendly.
Cons: The staff on reception never said hello, never smiled and were often to be seen gazing at their mobile phones. Check out was completed without a single friendly word from the member of staff. The cleaning staff - I passed three in the hallway one morning - never smiled or said good morning. The lighting in the underground tunnel leading from the hotel to the spa was so dark as to be dangerous. See photo The tunnel itself is being repaired but during the three days I was there no one cleaned the flaking plaster. There was a piano karaoke night on Saturday, which sounded fun, but it carried on until past 11pm and I could hear it in my room. In my room the safe did not work and a light bulb was not working. I saw some negative reviews when I booked but I really wanted to stay somewhere with a pool. In hindsight, I wish I had booked a place in the centre of the old town where I could have easily stepped out for a drink, meal or walk. Spa Hotel La Reserve is past its prime. Even that wouldn't have been so bad but for the unremittingly unfriendly staff. It's jaded and that is how I felt when I left.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is very beautiful
Cons: The room is too dark, breakfast could be better with little.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The bed was very good
Cons: The hotel is falling in pieces, the shower was dodgy. Sauna doesn't go over 40 degrees and swimming pool was out of order.
4,5 Okay
Pros: Price is ok, but there is a lot better in the area for the same or cheaper
Cons: Very rundown. Light and shower both broken.
4,5 Okay
Cons: When you think la Reserve you are supposed to think standard of excellence, this is clearly the exception. Old and ugly rooms, very noise hotel, difficult to have a good rest, very average food and service just below average. I question myself if this is really part of La Reserve franchise or a cheap Uruguayian copycat. Not recommended at all.
