Cons: "After thorough check (and hours at the airport) at the holiday destination, Dubai, my luggage was deemed lost. The DXB lost luggage staff helped me complete a 'lost luggage' report. However, the staff member told me that 'if' RwandAir found my luggage, I would be responsible for going to the airport as RwandAir does not have lost luggage delivery like most airlines. For the six days of my holiday, I waited for phone calls and checked emails expecting to hear from RwandAir. I heard nothing, RwandAir had made no effort of any kind to locate my luggage they had mishandled. Upon flying back home, I checked with the initial airport (DXB), the transit airport (Kigali), and my final destination airport (Brazzaville). My luggage was not in any of the airports mentioned. In each airport, and the RwandAir office at the Brazzaville airport, I presented the initial lost luggage form from the prior week and it was apparent that nobody, no airport, and no office was interested in finding my luggage. RwandAir, at no point, apologized for losing my belongings or in any way attempted to make up for seriously harming my holiday- not to mention the fact that it appears I will never see my possessions that were last seen being taken by RwandAir staff at the beginning of my holiday travels."

Cons: "Check-in closes one hour before your flight. Economy class: Food was a clingwrapped sandwich. The attendant gave me two bottles of a good South African wine. Security has gotten quite uptight at Kigali airport. They now stop your cab a couple hundred meters short of the airport, and have a dog check the vehicle. You have to pass through another security checkpoint at the entry to the airport building, and a third security into the boarding area. The final security check even takes away any empty bottles you have. And don't take any fingernail scissors in your handcarry, even if they have blunt points. You may have an hour or more wait in preboarding, and without water or bathroom excess. So takke care of these needs in advance."

On the day of travel, I checked in, checked two bags, and headed to the gate. An hour before the flight, a Rwandaair agent approached me to inform me that they were no longer code sharing with precision air, the second flight. Chaos ensued, my bags got lost, I got stuck in Nairobi, etc. in Nairobi, one of the Kenya airways agents literally said to me 'avoid Rwandaair and precision airlines - they are both airlines that do not follow any regulations, and not just operational, but safety as well.'"

Cons: "The staff at Vic Falls airport tried to charge me several hundred dollars for extra bag fees. The fee kept changing depending on who I was speaking with and when I agreed to pay with my AMEX they said they did not take AMEX so they eventually waived the fee. This was only done after showing the manager a printed copy of my booking which listed that passengers are allowed 2 checked bags each. This was all done in the office of the South African Airways who I assume was managing the Airlink flight."

As a result we had to pay for another set of tickets and pay for s hotel room as no other fflights that day. We arrived to airport in plenty of time however there was a backup at immigration. We waited 10-15 minutes than an employee had everyone in line move to a different line. By the time he slowly walked us over our plane had already boarded. The bus was still there but we were not allowed on. Also, the representative said the boarding was delayed 3 minutes. Actually they boarded early. All along way we were assured there was no problem making flight."

Cons: "Similar to some other reviewers we had to completely exit the terminal at JNB and then check in for our international flight sequence on Qatar, this was easy but caused a little anxiety, especially after learning that the total checked baggage for one person on the air link is 30kgs (66lbs) which is less than standard international weights. We had to pay extra for the “overweight” bags but the cost was reasonable. I would use the airline again."

SO WHAT DID I GET FOR PAYING BUSINESS? a curtain, a plate of chicken and exclusive access to the toilet at the head of the plane. Shame on SAA for selling this as a SAA business flight. Or Kayak for wrong advertisement. In the future I will definitely not pay for business as it is absolutely not worth it and will try to fly this portion with Air Botswana"

I was the second last person to board the aircraft because there was a long queue at Passport control with only one officer for a prolonged period. The man at the final boarding checkpoint, insisted that i was late because of shopping, and insisted on me catching a new flight the following day. He said that they had already filled up the plane with Stand By passengers, and my bags had already been off loaded. I had to beg him to allow me to board, and eventually he did. About 10 minutes after the scheduled departure time, the captain announced that they were waiting for one more guest, and the flight actually left about 20 minutes later then schedule anyway. This series of evens led me to believe that the man at the boarding gate was trying to elicit a bribe from me."

Various people complained throughout our 16 HOUR flight and they did nothing. The crew didn't seem to care that we were basically having heat strokes and unable to sleep because of the heat. They informed us that they were unable to change the temperature in our part of the plane. Yet, when we finally started our descent into JFK, the air conditioning came on. Funny how that worked all of a sudden. I will never fly them again."

Pros: "There are no individual entertainment systems but they showed two decent movies on the overhead screens. (on our initial flight on this route they had showed a very violent movie not at all appropriate for our young children to be exposed to, and then the second was too long for the flight and was cut off before it ended) I appreciated that they also had a vegetarian meal option available even if you had not pre-ordered. We were able to board the plane through a ramp and didn't have to go up stairs. Lost baggage was delivered the next day. SA uses a lost bag logistics company in Nairobi that only has one attendant and computer in baggage claim. So it takes a very long time to enter in one's lost luggage claim when there are several needing to file."

It seemed to us that SA Airways should have known about the strike before we left Johannesburg and made alternative arrangements rather than making decisions while we sat int he plan on the runway in Gambia and then backtracking to Ghana."

The folks meeting me in Cape Town had to wait an extra hour at the airport to collect it. Very unsatisfactory. As the national airline, SAA should pressure O R Tambo into improving their terrible immigration services."

Cons: "I would like to add one more meal to the flight. I think three meals for 15 hours would be fully satisfactory. The boarding was confusing with all the different lines. In order to cut down on the confusion the staff should announce what each line is and organize it in a better fashion. In addition, for good measure during check in of the flight the extra security procedure should be explained; therefore everyone can expect this longer process and throw all liquids away plus have bags ready to be rechecked. In closing, these small changes would be ideal for a smooth transition and comfortable trip."

But the vouchers can't be used online or over the phone, you HAVE to go to the airport to the ticket office to use them. Cons: "As a disabled passenger (I was in a cast and crutches) I was amazed at the unhelpful treatment received from hostesses when I asked to be moved to a more suitable seat where I could stretch my leg out. The in-flight entertainment system didn't work at all. The head hostess announced to the plane that it would be fixed after dinner but nothing changed. There were no movies or music for 16 hours. No water/drinks were served during the flight, outside of mealtimes. I was given the wrong meal but ate it anyway because I didn't want to bother the hostesses, who were quite rude and unhelpful. The plane was old, the seats hard, the whole interior showing it's age. Were it not for the fact that SAA is the only direct flight to South Africa, I would never fly this airline. The fact that it was voted the best airline in Africa for 2016 is pretty depressing."

She claimed she phoned the flight attendants to send it on. I learned this is NOT how SAA does it and I never got my phone. I do thikn, perhaps, someone who saw it called and--being it was still with SAA I think THEY went and climed it for hemselves. I did NOT think SAA accepted enough information from me and no info at first. My phone looked just like an I-Phone. It had a rubber purple back cover on it. MOST of the entries were face painting designs that I NEED. I do NOT think SAA had the passenger who got it 10 days later in Johannesburg was aasked what was programed into it. I did NOT think the reps in lost and found were knowledgable or efficent when I spoke with them several times."

Then they cleared and no coffee offered. It's not a huge deal but it felt like they did it so to say, yes coffee was offered but nobody wanted it and got it out of their routine. Entertainment system was buggy and antiquated."

Other than the food the flight was OK. I think all airlines need to work on making the seats more comfortable. It is almost impossible to take a reasonably comfortable nap on an 18 hour flight."

Then my partner got sick and they refused to taxi us to hotel for the night but take a bus that leaves every three hours. Her sickness got worse and there was a Kenyan airlines doctor who evaluated her at the airport after waiting 40 minutes laying at check in with her crying due to pain. We had a medical release from the doctor saying she needed extra space to lay down but the check in manager refused to make room for her saying the flight is full and she would not upgrade her to accommodate the medical release because we had an economy ticket. My partner looked so bad that the flight crew considered kicking us off but eventually made the space for her to lay down and were helpful on the flight. This is this disgraceful and the worst experience I’ve had with any company."

More than 5 other people on the flight missed this common connection as well. Not only did KQ not have a system in place to work with other flights, the service area was completely swamped. People missed their connections because they couldn't get to the front in time to have a boarding pass printed or have a question answered. The staff were rude and didn't give eye contact or answer questions."

Cons: "The experience from the airport to the plane to Lome was beyond troubling. If ever you are flying internationally from NYC, never fly from Newark New Jersey. Nevertheless, upon boarding the Ethiopian Airline flight to Lome that was supposed to depart at 9:15 pm, the courtesy of the flight attendants was a bit mundane. My mother and I sat on the plane for about an hour after the time of the depart before inquiring why we have no moved and the doors were closed. The flight attendant responded with, "We shall be moving shortly." The air conditioner was barely on. My mother is battling stage 3 Cancer and is an older woman so, I feared for the safety of her health in such a condition. About 30 minutes passed, and we inquired again. This time with a different flight attendant and she said she just did not know what was going on. Other people on the plane began to panic in a sense as well because like my mother and I, they too had a connecting flight to catch. The pilot did not inform the passengers of what was occurring. So, at this point, all passengers on flight ET509 had been sitting on the plane for an hour and a half. By the time we were sitting on the plane for 2 HOURS with the doors closed the pilot finally informed us that they were waiting for some paperwork. He did not apologize or give more information as to why we were sitting on the plane so long, with practically no AC, and weren't informed about when we would be pulling off. About 10 minutes later, the plane began backing up while people were still standing because they were restless with the wait especially when we had a 10-hour flight ahead of us. The pilot then got on the loudspeaker stating that we will be pulling in the air shortly and for the flight attendants to be seated. The pilot did not apologize for the inconvenience or state how long the flight would be or what time we would land in Lome, Togo. Once we were in the air, there were many safety hazards administered by both the crew and pilot. The seat belt safety information was not given, the exit areas in case of emergency were not discussed, what to do in case of an emergency, where certain equipment would be in case of illness or an emergency, and we were still not informed about the cause of the 2 hours and 15-minute delay. My mother and I consistently checked the flight tracker and it did not show the duration of our flight, our location while flying, no flight information was displayed and as hard working paying passengers we should have had all of the information and not have to continuously ask to get a slight answer. Also, I am a vegan and they did not have food for me. But there was a flight attendant who gave me extra fruit which I greatly appreciated. The flight coming back to Newark was decent, going was the major issue. I pray we are accommodated for these great inconveniences. Because to have spent almost $3,000 and receive this type of treatment is both saddening and disturbing to me."

It's a very convenient airline route. The plane was a new Dreamliner 787, the staff were professional and pleasant and the food was plentiful and pretty good."
