Pros: Good view of castle from this particular room - others were not quite so good. Great location in centre of town but very quiet. Large room with large comfortable bed and a settee and dining table. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: The kitchen was poorly stocked for cooking, but this was quickly resolved when we asked for more utensils. Not all rooms are accessible - only one of the three staircases had a lift. Check if this is important to you.

Pros: Location

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a good location on the main pedestrian street. We had a one bedroom apartment, number 16, on the top floor with a nice view of the Brocken mountain and the castle. There was a lift to the first floor and then stairs. To keep fit we climbed up and down the 54 steps from the carpark whenever possible! Luckily the nice staff carried our suitcases up when we arrived and down on our departure. The building is traditional "half-timbered" but well renovated. The room had high ceilings, lots of openable windows and radiators for heating. We only used the frig, kettle and sink, but the kitchenette was equipped with a microwave oven, stove top and basic kitchen utensils. The bed and shower were good, the room was very quiet, Wifi good. Although the room had no safe, we felt secure at all times. A good breakfast was provided in a very nice dining room with a view to the castle.
Cons: The hotel exceeded our expectations in many ways.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is simply put perfect. The main street of the city right through a doorway and a cozy quiet courtyard with parking below the rooms. Several of the rooms have a view of the castle which is pretty impressive especially at night. The very so friendly and did absolutely everything to make sure we had a great stay. The rooms were very clean - the hotel in general was tightly kept. We will certainly be recommending the hotel to everyone we know.
Cons: A few of the employees were not the best English speakers which can make it a bit tricky if you don’t speak English - to be fair though that is nitpicking considering everything else.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Central location and car parking on site.
Cons: Nothing
7,5 Good
Pros: View of castle from bedroom. Receptionist Hans gave me a bottle of beer. Many thanks, Hans. Hotel is in a quiet location, but not far from the town centre.
Cons: Missed croissants for breakfast. Eggs were runny - no hard boiled ones.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and very friendly staff. Nice views, too. It was only a short walk to the train station for a ride up the Brochen on a steam engine. An adult ticket was euro 45 but worth it, we felt.
Cons: Not hotel related but I bought a discount book for euro 22 which offered discounts to local attractions and free bus travel, etc. Our savings over the four days was euro 1.5!! You really need to be there for a year or season to make the discount book economical.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff an excellent location just of the main street in the old town, easy access to the cafes and restaurants. A 10 minute walk to the station of the Harz Steam Railway. With safe of street parking. Highly recommended.
Cons: As I would not hesitate to recommend this property to family and friends it is very difficult to find a criticism.

Pros: Great view from the room of the Schloss. Central location and great morning breakfasts.

Pros: Bed was excellent.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building, super friendly / helpful staff (despite our not speaking German). Great food. Loved the sauna.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The building is beautiful with so much historic character. The staff were friendly & very helpful, particularly with our lack of German language. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice.
Cons: The location is fairly isolated as there is not much on the small town
9,6 Excellent
Pros: What an amazing hotel! Walking into the reception is like walking into a grand castle with stone floors, a sweeping wooden staircase up to the first floor and beautiful wooden-ballustrade balconies looking back down to the reception area. Our room was very large, very comfortable and very quiet and the views out onto the surrounding green landscape very pleasant. The breakfast / dinner room was equally grand and the quality of the food was very good (we had breakfast in the hotel each of the 3 mornings of our stay, and also ate dinner in the hotel 2 of the 3 nights), and they had a few vegetarian options which was a pleasant surprise (for me as a vegetarian!). The spa area was amazingly comprehensive with two showers, changing rooms, foot bath, whirlpool (that you have to manually fill each time though), sauna and steam-room. The staff were also very friendly whenever we needed to speak to them.
Cons: For those used to large continental cooked breakfasts, the only cooked food available here were boiled eggs, scrambled egg and bacon, the rest being cold platters of meat, vegetables and fruit. That said, the food was all very fresh, tasty and beautifully laid out. Also, and it's only a minor point, but the restaurant may be slightly understaffed, as during one of the dinners there were gaps of 10-15 minutes between someone coming out into the restaurant to see if anyone needed help / attention which made the process of paying to leave quite slow!

8,0 Excellent
Pros: We opted for the Comfort Double room. The room and the bathroom were clean. The room also had the view of the Rathaus which we liked. It would have been better if we had coffee machine in the room. The breakfast was decent.
Cons: The check-in time is 15.00 which is too late. There was not possibility of an early check-in as well. In Wernigerode, the public transport ticket is given by the Hotel you stay since we pay tourist tax as part of the accomodation charges. We can get this ticket from the hotel only after check-in. By this time, most of the attractions would be near closing time. It would be better if the check-in time is 12.00.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Great staff, good food, good beer. Very comfortable room on 1st Floor. Excellent housekeeping staff. Great barman!
Cons: Occasionally noisy outside from 06:00 when binmen and delivery people were in the square but nothing can be done about that so just enjoy it..
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great restaurant for breakfast and dinner.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Extra sitting / living room was not needed.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, silent room, friendly staff!
Cons: Strange odour in the room
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location, comfort and decor.
Cons: The only downside to the hotel was the young barman who worked in the hotel bar on a couple of evenings. The young lady was superb, very friendly, chatty and welcoming. The polar opposite of the barman.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and great location overlooking the old town square.
Schlossberg-Hotel - Wernigerode - Building

Overview Reviews

7,0 Good
Pros: Room was clean and cozy, mini bar available. Hotel is really close to the center and just next to the castle.
Cons: Smell of the dogs in the hotel was quite strong and there was no kettle in the room.
7,1 Good
Pros: We found this property a bit of a mixed bag. Their local customers obviously love it; the proprietors and staff are friendly, accessible, and free with their advice; the breakfast buffet is reasonably comprehensive (though less so than at some other hotels on our trip); the location part way up the hill to the castle is quiet and secluded; it's an attractive old building; and our large, comfortable room had a great view. But...
Cons: The first morning we had no hot water in our room. The proprietor did not believe me, and asked me to run the taps for 5 minutes before calling him again. Then he came up and a somewhat Fawlty-esque pantomime ensued before he finally accepted there was a problem - which, to his credit, he did fix. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Also the tap water in our room tasted foul, and (unlike every other hotel we've stayed at on this trip) no free bottles of water were provided. The hotel was full for our visit and people were packed in tightly at breakfast. If you don't mind conviviality and noisy banter at breakfast, with people banging into your chair to get past, you will be fine but it was not our cup of tea. Also the buffet table was not really big enough for the numbers. Items did run out, and although they were replaced the staff could not always keep up. Parking is very tight and access is not easy. If your car is bigger than ours (Mondeo sized), or you time your arrival badly, you may not be able to squeeze in and/or you may have to reverse down the drive to get out.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice owners, lovely small hotel, great breakfast, good location.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Rich breakfast, adequate parking, great location, reliable Wi-Fi. Nice and romantic.
Cons: Moody staff.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Nice staff. They lent us maps for hiking, which was very nice. Quiet and lovely location!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: As a business traveller I stay at a different hotel each week. I chose this hotel based on location and price and wasn't disappointed either way. It is a "hidden gem" forget the corporate points and go for "family values".
Cons: Nothing to dislike - there is free parking which some of the dearer hotels can't boast! Plus it is only 750m from the town centre.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: The whole stay everyting was ok. Serviceminded Staff Quiet and fresh air
7,9 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful reception staff, great location, spacious room, information about the history of the place.
Cons: Hotel did miss some amenities in my opinion especially in terms of bathroom comfort. Also I felt a little monitored while having breakfast.it felt a little as if eating in someones house. Overall a very pleasant place but pricy which makes one more picky
8,0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfast buffet was varied and of excellent quality. The room was quiet, clean and the beds comfortable.
Cons: We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past and recently the hotel changed hands. The hotel is now rather bare and lacks a homely atmosphere. The rooms and the dining area need some pictures on the walls, the place would also benefit with more ornaments here and there and maybe a few artistic objects relative to local history and traditions. Also, the once busy and vibrant restaurant/bar was closed.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: A very characterful and historic property, with lots of wood panelling, close to the town centre. Bedrooms are comfortable and a good size, some overlooking the picturesque street. Friendly staff. Breakfast very good.
10,0 Excellent

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in Room 303. Spent 6 weeks in Europe and this room, along with the magnificent breakfast, was tops. Spacious, polite and helpful staff, clean. Do not miss the steam train ride to the Brocken - exy but well worth it - catch the first 9.30am one and beat the crowd - being from Queensland, Australia, the snow and fir trees were magical.
Cons: Only negative was lack of english language tv eg BBC, Euro English, AlJazeera English - only english program was Bloomberg finance.

Cons: parking spaces outside the hotel were very limited

Cons: Most of the employees don’t speak english.

Pros: I reserved the room for my son and he was very pleased with the facilities and their service. I even called ahead to arrange for all payments to be charged to my CC. My son had no problem checking-out. Very professionals.
7,5 Good
Pros: Peaceful location Very good breakfast with a good variety of food available. Restaurant provided good value meals and the servers were very pleasant.
Cons: Parking was a challenge the first night not helped by some badly parked vehicles. We had problems with the room lock, key turned freely in the lock, took 3 to 4 minutes of fiddling to engage the key in lock. We reported this problem, unfortunately there was no improvement during our stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location near woods. Hotel was quiet inside. Clean, newly renovated rooms. Breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of options.
Cons: No air conditioning and loud noise outside hotel with what sounded like cleanup crew at 7 am! In the morning. Since you need to keep windows open to get some cool air at night that was unacceptable. Also the service during dinner time was very slow. They forgot about our drinks and it took almost 45 minutes to get our check.
8,8 Excellent
Cons: The sound isolation is not so good. I can hear clearly the TV sound of the room next door

Cons: The beds are hard.
6,0 Good
Pros: The location was perfect for visiting Wernigerode and parking was in the internal courtyard for an extra charge
Cons: We originally booked a double room and asked for a quiet room as we were staying with our dog, however, on arrival we were given an apartment maybe because it was on the ground floor and off the courtyard? however, the apartment was not set up to use as an apartment the sofa was formally used as a sofa bed so the cushions were just piled up on a unit & minimal kitchen appliances but as we did not intend to use it as an apartment it did not concern us but it may bother other guests who book an apartment also in this particular room the wifi was not good and this was mentioned on checking out & we were informed that they are looking at a new router however we could access the wifi in the breakfast room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were given a large room at the back of the hotel overlooking the castle. There was a sitting room and a large bedroom with rather hard mattresses(we got used to them) but spotless and airy. Breakfast was taken in a breakfast room with outside sitting area which was lovely. Breakfast was superb.Continental and cooked with a choice of breads and fruit and yoghurts. Staff were helpful. No complaints at all.
Cons: nothing
7,9 Good
Pros: I was at reception just before 10am (meaning a couple of minutes before) and there was nobody there - they were helping out in the breakfast room. This meant I missed my train.
Cons: Although the area is lovely and quiet the walls and ceilings are rather thin and you could hear everything from the corridor and the room above.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location is good. It woould be only 5 minutes from old town. View of room is really gorgeous. Some room has a nightsight of castle. Parking lots are little bit far from hotel. It takes 10 min by walks, but it is free!!

7,0 Good
Pros: Room was clean and cozy, mini bar available.

Pros: Very nice owners, lovely small hotel, great breakfast, good location.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Rich breakfast, adequate parking, great location, reliable Wi-Fi. Nice and romantic.
Cons: Moody staff.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Nice staff. They lent us maps for hiking, which was very nice. Quiet and lovely location!

Pros: The location is perfect for visiting this quaint town. You can't get a better spot! The breakfast is phenomenal! Lots of delicious options, and they have the cutest butter machine that forms perfect disks of fresh butter to apply to the equally tasty breads and pastries. When we checked out, the front desk staff gave us a to-go bag with a wonderful loaf of bread and 2 waters. Very nice touch!
Cons: We noticed that some people received Sparkling wine upon arrival. We did not. That was kind of odd. Other than that, we would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Pros: Excellent breakfast choice in very nice room with view of castle. Most pleasant start to the day. Room very comfortable. Stayed in several hotels in Wernigerode over the years, this is the best.
Cons: Well nothing really
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with a fantastic views of the castle, EV charging points in the car park to enable me to charge my car while I slept so it’s ready for my onward journey.
Cons: Tea, coffee & a kettle in the room would have been nice but this appears to be rare in German hotels
7,1 Good
Pros: Everything was clean and even though the look was vintage, it looked new.
Cons: The Breakfast was okay. The food was presented nicely, but the choice was a bit lacking. There were some scrambled eggs, some choices of bread and some cheap cereal. Okay for a 50€ Hotel, Lacking for a 100€ one. No inviting lounge areas in the hotel itself.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A short walk from old town but a lot quieter than old town particularly during Rathaus Fest. Parking at hotel, easy to access roads out out of Wernigerode. A balcony with view of the castle allowed us to sit outside.
Cons: Toiletries and soap not always replaced. No tissues.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast with a view. Lovely.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really kind and helpful people working there.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The size of room was lovely, however bathroom slightly small and cramped. Balcony with castle view was great and good to be able to sit out in the afternoon evening. Swimming pool was good although a little cold for us as we are use to using a warm pool in uk. Breakfast was very good and a good variety considering it was a small hotel. the location was ideal just on the edge of town but within walking distance of everything. Free car park.
Cons: Access to the hotel, I struggled with luggage up the front steps, then second day found the car park entrance to the hotel down two steps and then access to lift which the staff didn't advise of at time of booking in. This was also slightly easier for my husband to use as the entrance to hotel as he has mobility difficulties. Couldn't take his scooter into the hotel, cobbled car park was also not good.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very well maintained, nice breakfast room and very friendly staff!

Pros: The room was spacious and well lit. The bathroom was also pleasant and clean. The staff were frindly and helpful and the breakfast buffet generous and well stocked with a wide variety. The location is central and within easy reach of all the sights and restaurants in town.
Cons: The beds were too hard for our tastes. There were very noisy people leaving the disco on Saturday evening thankfully they did not remain for too long.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Central location between the railway station and the town centre. Relaxing reception area. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: Wi-Fi was virtually unusable in our room on the third floor. I had to come down to reception to check emails.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The closeness to the railway station. The room was large enough and having a bath is always a bonus especially in an area with many walking trails(good to soak). Breakfasts start from 6.00am which is great when you want to get out and about.
Cons: I have been here many times,I can’t be certain but I didn’t think the breakfasts were as good as they used to be(still good by most hotels standards).
