9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good view of castle from this particular room - others were not quite so good. Great location in centre of town but very quiet. Large room with large comfortable bed and a settee and dining table. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: The kitchen was poorly stocked for cooking, but this was quickly resolved when we asked for more utensils. Not all rooms are accessible - only one of the three staircases had a lift. Check if this is important to you.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: It was a great accommodation with family . Rooms are big well heated , Great location, Clean and bathroom toilet on the second floor looks like a mammoth.
Cons: Toilet on the ground floor with no/poor exhaust . No bathroom on ground floor WiFi excellent but cannot do WhatsApp call and no game play.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view, staff and breakfast. For sure we will come here again.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Central location just off the main pedestrian street. Excellent breakfast buffet
Cons: The kitchenette was a very low-powered two ring stove top which took ages to cook anything and a very small microwave. This limited the type of meal that could be prepared. There are however many restaurants around the town centre.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is simply put perfect. The main street of the city right through a doorway and a cozy quiet courtyard with parking below the rooms. Several of the rooms have a view of the castle which is pretty impressive especially at night. The very so friendly and did absolutely everything to make sure we had a great stay. The rooms were very clean - the hotel in general was tightly kept. We will certainly be recommending the hotel to everyone we know.
Cons: A few of the employees were not the best English speakers which can make it a bit tricky if you don’t speak English - to be fair though that is nitpicking considering everything else.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Central location and car parking on site.
Cons: Nothing
7,5 Good
Pros: View of castle from bedroom. Receptionist Hans gave me a bottle of beer. Many thanks, Hans. Hotel is in a quiet location, but not far from the town centre.
Cons: Missed croissants for breakfast. Eggs were runny - no hard boiled ones.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and very friendly staff. Nice views, too. It was only a short walk to the train station for a ride up the Brochen on a steam engine. An adult ticket was euro 45 but worth it, we felt.
Cons: Not hotel related but I bought a discount book for euro 22 which offered discounts to local attractions and free bus travel, etc. Our savings over the four days was euro 1.5!! You really need to be there for a year or season to make the discount book economical.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived later in the evening after the main reception had closed so we used the phone provided to call the hotel - they could not have been more helpful and they made us very welcome. Breakfast was excellent, good choice. Location fantastic - it's a beautiful town anyway, but this was on one of the main pedestrianised streets, so was very quiet even though it was central. Rooms were spotlessly clean and they came in each day to change towels (if required) and tidy the beds. Our spoken German was very poor but they were patient and we didn't have any problems with being understood. The receptionist was fluent in English and extremely helpful. Highly recommend and it will be our first choice for the next visit.
Cons: I have nothing negative to say at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great view from the room of the Schloss. Central location and great morning breakfasts.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel located in very convenient location. Easy to reach most of tourist traps and offers a variety of food choices. Staff was very friendly and supportive. They even allowed to keep our luggage in the hotel after check out while we were roaming around the city!
Cons: Nothing I can tell.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location and room facilities
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were able to check in very lately around 11:30 pm without any issues. Reception also provided us a kettle for a night, that was very kind and useful. Reception also speaks English which is not so often in Germany. Child-friendly.
Cons: First floor has a small stairs on the right side about 3 steps so be ready to lift you stroller up by yourself. Despite that fact everything else was good.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: breakfast has enormous selection of items.Very good smoked salmon and selection of eggs. great selection of breads and rolls. great coffe and tea Very good sleeping quality. Great meat dishes cooked by their chef. Very responsive and attentive staff
Cons: Chesses and pastramis are of an average quality. glasses for cold drinks are miniature and the cold dinks selection is shy. Some troubles with annoying smells in the rest room-may be as a result of a lazy purifying system. Should improve on their pastas which do not deserve 19 Euros per plate.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a very central location and our room overlooked the Marktplatz. The staff are friendly and helpful and are able to communicate in English so we had no problems discussing our needs even though we do not speak German. Breakfast is generous. The restaurant menu is varied and the food is good and well presented. The welcome fruit in the room is a nice touch. I definitely recommend this hotel.
Cons: No room service and no coffee/tea making facilities in the room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: room was spacious and was the higher grade We did have quite a walk from the elevator to our room which had a terrific view of the main square -- we were not bothered by this Breakfast was terrific especially on the Sunday we were there. We had driven and the hotel's parking lot was adjacent Hotel is on the main square so in the center of everything
Cons: We had a bit of a trouble cooling down the room but this was not a great problem
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location. Clean. Friendly
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! It was clean, cozy, comfortable, and has a lovely restaurant. The location is right in the center of the main square. I think it was my favorite hotel on our three-week trip.
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Overall a great hotel to stay at. Staff pretty friendly and helpful, lovely room (with market square view) which was what we thought we had booked, but for an ambiguos description on actual "booking". Only the kindness and understanding of reception staff enabled us to actually get the room we thought we had booked - which made our stay much more enjoyable. Great restaurant with a lovely breakfast.
Cons: We were travelling with 2 dogs, and were charged €15 per night per dog... which whacked another €120 on to our bill. This on top of €10 per night for parking at the hotel was quite an additional cost. Not sure how it costs €120 for "additional cleaning costs" for room on departure - as was the explanation given when I questioned the amount. I appreciate most hotels are on the "pet fee" band wagon nowadays, and don't mind paying for the privilege of having our best friends accompany us, but this is the most we have ever been charged; and we travel a lot. Food for thought!
Schlossberg-Hotel - Wernigerode - Bedroom

8,9 Excellent (774 reviews)
R1 420+
Overview Reviews
This hotel lies in the heart of Wernigerode, a 5-minute walk from the town hall and Wernigerode Castle. Schlossberg-Hotel offers a sauna and free Wi-Fi. Guests are welcome to relax on the sunbathing lawn, on the terrace with panoramic views or in the nearby woods. A range of massages and cosmetic treatments can also be booked at the property.
7,1 Good
Pros: We found this property a bit of a mixed bag. Their local customers obviously love it; the proprietors and staff are friendly, accessible, and free with their advice; the breakfast buffet is reasonably comprehensive (though less so than at some other hotels on our trip); the location part way up the hill to the castle is quiet and secluded; it's an attractive old building; and our large, comfortable room had a great view. But...
Cons: The first morning we had no hot water in our room. The proprietor did not believe me, and asked me to run the taps for 5 minutes before calling him again. Then he came up and a somewhat Fawlty-esque pantomime ensued before he finally accepted there was a problem - which, to his credit, he did fix. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Also the tap water in our room tasted foul, and (unlike every other hotel we've stayed at on this trip) no free bottles of water were provided. The hotel was full for our visit and people were packed in tightly at breakfast. If you don't mind conviviality and noisy banter at breakfast, with people banging into your chair to get past, you will be fine but it was not our cup of tea. Also the buffet table was not really big enough for the numbers. Items did run out, and although they were replaced the staff could not always keep up. Parking is very tight and access is not easy. If your car is bigger than ours (Mondeo sized), or you time your arrival badly, you may not be able to squeeze in and/or you may have to reverse down the drive to get out.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice owners, lovely small hotel, great breakfast, good location.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Rich breakfast, adequate parking, great location, reliable Wi-Fi. Nice and romantic.
Cons: Moody staff.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Really calm place and warm welcome by the owners
Cons: Small breakfast room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has a homely feel and the staff are great
Cons: There is nothing negative to comment on. I would say it's a lovely property. It serves only breakfast so be aware of need to go into town to eat for other meals, but it's not an issue with so many cafes nearby.
7,9 Good
Pros: Hotel ideally located, friendly staff and great rooms.
Cons: Breakfast isn't the most exciting and fairly overpriced for what you get.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Nice staff. They lent us maps for hiking, which was very nice. Quiet and lovely location!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: As a business traveller I stay at a different hotel each week. I chose this hotel based on location and price and wasn't disappointed either way. It is a "hidden gem" forget the corporate points and go for "family values".
Cons: Nothing to dislike - there is free parking which some of the dearer hotels can't boast! Plus it is only 750m from the town centre.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful hosts. Great location, nice breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The approach of the staff was perfect. They really made an impression.
Cons: Room was a bit cold when I arrived.

Pros: Bed was excellent.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building, super friendly / helpful staff (despite our not speaking German). Great food. Loved the sauna.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The building is beautiful with so much historic character. The staff were friendly & very helpful, particularly with our lack of German language. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice.
Cons: The location is fairly isolated as there is not much on the small town
9,6 Excellent
Pros: What an amazing hotel! Walking into the reception is like walking into a grand castle with stone floors, a sweeping wooden staircase up to the first floor and beautiful wooden-ballustrade balconies looking back down to the reception area. Our room was very large, very comfortable and very quiet and the views out onto the surrounding green landscape very pleasant. The breakfast / dinner room was equally grand and the quality of the food was very good (we had breakfast in the hotel each of the 3 mornings of our stay, and also ate dinner in the hotel 2 of the 3 nights), and they had a few vegetarian options which was a pleasant surprise (for me as a vegetarian!). The spa area was amazingly comprehensive with two showers, changing rooms, foot bath, whirlpool (that you have to manually fill each time though), sauna and steam-room. The staff were also very friendly whenever we needed to speak to them.
Cons: For those used to large continental cooked breakfasts, the only cooked food available here were boiled eggs, scrambled egg and bacon, the rest being cold platters of meat, vegetables and fruit. That said, the food was all very fresh, tasty and beautifully laid out. Also, and it's only a minor point, but the restaurant may be slightly understaffed, as during one of the dinners there were gaps of 10-15 minutes between someone coming out into the restaurant to see if anyone needed help / attention which made the process of paying to leave quite slow!

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room nice breakfast. No sitting out area for an evening drink but close to town square so ok.
4,2 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was exceptional - if it were not for the breakfast , I would give this hotel only 1 star
Cons: The room needed a complete makeover - the carpet should have been renewed years ago. Our room 701 had the frog beams running try it and the roof angled over the bed. The staff were in general abrasive and unhelpful - on one occasion when I asked what the weather would be like the next day I was told to go away.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: As many have written, breakfast is beyond expected for this class of hotel. It not the best hotel breakfast I have had by far, but still very good - especially for this kind of hotel. Room fine, location fine.
Cons: There are five or six parking places- from thereon it is over to the closeby parking house at €3/calendar day. Reception area stinks of years and years of smoking. Staff speaks virtually no English.

6,7 Good
Pros: Comfortable, clean, good location in centre of town
Cons: The requirement to pay at the sister hotel some 5+ minutes walk away was never explained to us when checking in. This led to a rush on the morning of departure, when we became separated from our friends and had a train to catch.

Pros: The very helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent (once you got there!)
Cons: Inconvenience of walking 300m to the main hotel for breakfast. Reception on the first floor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location in the heart of the town. Large quiet room with good, clean facilities. Welcoming host
5,8 Okay
Pros: The lady at reception was very kind and tried her best to assist us in English when none of the brochures or hotel guide in the room had any English. Appreciate this hotel is part of the Romantic German experience, but at least show the wifi code and breakfast options in 2 languages. Location was good in old town. Nice shops and restaurants around.
Cons: This hotel has no air conditioning or good airflow in the rooms. It was very hot and noisy for both nights we stayed as there was a festival downstairs. No lift and very narrow stairs. The hotel is very dated with carpets needing urgent replacement, specially on the stairs. No tea and coffee facilities in the rooms.
7,1 Good
Pros: Convenient to centre of town
Cons: Had to go to sister hotel to settle bill

Cons: parking spaces outside the hotel were very limited

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great and the buffet breakfast was excellent also the staff were very helpful and friendly and the service was excellent
Cons: We found it hard to communicate as we did not speak german and only 1 waiter spoke english also the menu was in german only

Pros: Good enough, clean rooms. Very good location.
Cons: Please note that price do not include tourist tax, parking, baby cot, etc.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious and included for my husband and I in the price. Just not for my children. Also good breakfast timings 7-10. Very welcoming staff. I needed milk for my little one and staff were very accomodating. Hotel room was very spacious and clean.
Cons: It was a double room and said it was for 2 adults and 2 children with a fold out bed. It didn't have a fold out bed so I had to pay extra for extra beds. This should be stated on the website. Plus there was extra hidden charges for the breakfast for the children also. Only €4 but for each child each day. I would definitely stay here again but book a room more suitable and check the hotel's actual website. They also stated that parking was 3 euro a day but was actually 6 euro.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, but there was no parking place for the car, for me it was something very important, otherwise it was superb!
Cons: There was no parking place for the car.

Pros: Great location, wonderful view. Hotel is placed perfectly to visit the city and castle. Rooms are large with great views.

Pros: Good location. Really friendly and helpful staff.
7,9 Good
Pros: The swimming pool was great, location was perfect, breakfast was tasty

Pros: The staff and location.
Cons: You have to pay for parking
9,6 Excellent
Pros: One of the best buffet breakfasts I have experienced in Germany
Cons: Bottled water in room is expensive
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Well situated in the Altstadt, nowhere more than a short walk away. A tiny room, but friendly and helpful staff, and an excellent breakfast, so no complaints at all, though car parking was a bit of a squeeze.
Cons: Traffic noise, the place is on a one-way system, and it becomes pretty bad in the morning when people go to work. Little sleep the first morning, but I bought earplugs in the town, and it was tolerable after that.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and friendly and informative staff, centrally located in an interesting charming town
7,5 Good
Pros: The room is big and clean. The bed is very comfortable. Staff is friendly.
Cons: I booked a room with castle view but I didn’t see it from my room. The internet is slow. It is a bit overpriced for a very simple hotel like this.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We had not notified the hotel that we would prefer a room on the lower floor, and had been allocated an excellent room (brilliant view of the Schloss) on the second floor. The hotel transferred us to a room on the ground floor (no view, but no stairs either).
Cons: The hotel is on a corner of a busy road, and inevitably there is some traffic noise.
5,8 Okay
Pros: City Center is in walking distance
Cons: Bathroom is less than basic, interior design of the rooms is very poor. It does not need more money but a bit more taste to do it better
7,5 Good
Pros: The room was comfortable, pleasantly decorated. Breakfast buffet was good. Hotel is located in a quiet location with easy walking distance to the centre of Wernigerode.
Cons: The floor was a rather creaky and there is no lift.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location very convenient, no need to use car locally. Great selection of places in Wernigerode to eat & drink, also to shop. Cultural and historical interests.
Cons: Central location meant nights were quite noisy, drunkenness, traffic, early morning deliveries etc. not able to sleep particularly well.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was nice, room was very clean and rather comfortable, staff - always friendly!

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet area, outside the town. Decent breakfast, although not a big choice. Clean and spacious room. Great parking area right beside the entrance.
Cons: The mattress was too soft and didn't withstand the weight of a big guy like me. Also the pillow was too thin and weak. Curtains are not thick enough and let light in very early.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The buffet has a good selection.
5,4 Okay
Pros: There was a heater in the bathroom, so our showers were nice and warm when we wanted them as such. It's a cute family-run place. The bus station is right outside, and with the 10 euro tax, you get to ride the bus for free with the ticket booklet you get, for as long as you are staying.
Cons: The pillows were too soft and had no substance, which hurt our necks. The restaurant wasn't open and we were only told when we got there. The place was a bit difficult to find, as the address wasn't correct online.
7,5 Good
Pros: quiet environment Free transport ticket from the hotel
Cons: the reception doesn't speak English, a bit difficult to get information
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, quiet location, plenty of safe parking.
Cons: Need to take a car or bus into town, or 30 minute walk.

Pros: Suberb hotel Good central position for exploring Wernigerode and perfect for a short break away in the Harz mountain. Very comfortable room with warm ambiance.Breakfast and dinner were excellent in a lovely room. Super helpful and knowledgeable staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was our 1st time in the Travel Charme family and we will definitely come back. We had read many reviews - and the desription of how to find the hotel/parking house by car, which is online :) - and were absolutely satisfied with our own experience. From the first contact, the check-in with a complimentary glass of champagne, our beautiful room, a great SPA experience (pedicure, manicure, facial treatment, full body scrub) to the dinner in the kitchen (ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED for anyone who enjoys a good food and is not afraid to look behind the scene, definitely a MUST for every romantic travel!), the umbrellas provided at all times (we hit a rainy week in town) and the kind suggestion where to park for free in town instead of in the hotel's own parking house :) everything was wonderful! We enjoyed the various breakfast buffet in the mornings - 7 days, and we still found something new to try every day. In the afternoons, we enjoyed the complimentary muffin and croissant from the reception. Being in the city center of Wernigerode, all of the Harz can be visited from here. Simply great!
Cons: Just a small hint for everyone travelling from outside of Eastern Germany: The SAUNA is clothes-free, and some guests apperently cannot read / understand the very obvious sign that the whirl pool area is not clothes-free :) So we made some rather "personal" encounters and had to finish our sauna/pool visits rather abruptly, as we weren't so keen on this very East German "FKK" tradition ... . I am not sure how frequented the hotel is by non-East German travellers - a hint on the website to that tradition or at the introduction while checking in might solve some misunderstandings here. Also for those of us used to the more Southern dinner times: Both the hotel's own restaurants as well as almost every restaurant in town clothes their kitches at 9pm. If you want to eat something warm after that: Be prepared for pizza. If you are happy to eat before 9pm, there is a great variety of options available both in the hotel and just right in front of the door.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great staff , excellent breakfast free room inclusions and a farewell pack of goodies when we checked out. Felt special here .
Cons: Parking was an extra cost in a local car park.
7,1 Good
Cons: That we couldn't take the stroller to the room.
7,9 Good
Pros: A lovely, traditional hotel in the centre of Wernigerode. I had a quiet room at the back. The bar was nice and the barman helpful.
Cons: The single pillow was too thin and uncomfortable. Difficult to find the hotel by car unless you know in advance where to enter the Altstadt. The hotel did send me instructions in advance, but I was too foolish to take them with me. It looked fairly easy to find on the map, but the one-way street system was a maze.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, excellent breakfast, efficient breakfast staff.
Cons: Charging for motorcycle parking. 6 Euro per night is too much given the price of the room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Had real character. Was right on the town square. Room was beautiful!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was a fantastic hotel. Very clean. Excellent food. Staff were very attentive and all seemed happy. Great location in a lovely town
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, right near the old market square. The breakfast was very complete and very good quality. The staff was friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend it for travelers, especially if you are driving around the Harz mountains.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is superbly located and offers excellent accommodation. The staff are professional and helpful in all respects. My room was immaculately clean and serviced efficiently every day. The breakfast was very comprehensive with no waiting time. I ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was well prepared and enjoyable with very good service. A joy to stay here.
Cons: Nothing.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location with very easy, free parking. Accross the street from the Altstadt and very close to the city center. Very nice breakfast served in a beautiful room. Large comfortable room, with a nice view of the castle from our balcony.
Cons: The air conditioner was weak, so the room was too warm. We couldn't leave the windows open at night as the hotel is on a busy street and there was too much traffic noise. Smoking is allowed on the balconies so our neighbors smoke would blow into our windows.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice view from the window - you can see castle
Cons: The bed - you feel like you are rolling to the side whole night. Traffic in the morning becomes busy and loud The room is a bit small
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice traditional style hotel, good breakfast and close to town ctr, castle and Harz steam railway
Cons: Air con would have been nice as the weather was quite warm during our stay
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast choice in very nice room with view of castle. Most pleasant start to the day. Room very comfortable. Stayed in several hotels in Wernigerode over the years, this is the best.
Cons: Well nothing really
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with a fantastic views of the castle, EV charging points in the car park to enable me to charge my car while I slept so it’s ready for my onward journey.
Cons: Tea, coffee & a kettle in the room would have been nice but this appears to be rare in German hotels
7,1 Good
Pros: Everything was clean and even though the look was vintage, it looked new.
Cons: The Breakfast was okay. The food was presented nicely, but the choice was a bit lacking. There were some scrambled eggs, some choices of bread and some cheap cereal. Okay for a 50€ Hotel, Lacking for a 100€ one. No inviting lounge areas in the hotel itself.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A short walk from old town but a lot quieter than old town particularly during Rathaus Fest. Parking at hotel, easy to access roads out out of Wernigerode. A balcony with view of the castle allowed us to sit outside.
Cons: Toiletries and soap not always replaced. No tissues.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Comfy beds Clean good smelling room
Cons: - No free table on sunday breakfast - waiting line - No tea offerings at the breakfast - you have to ask for a specific tea, personnel didnt tell which sorts of tea they have - after asking to switch on the sauna, it was forgotten to switch on both, the steam sauna remained cold
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The size of room was lovely, however bathroom slightly small and cramped. Balcony with castle view was great and good to be able to sit out in the afternoon evening. Swimming pool was good although a little cold for us as we are use to using a warm pool in uk. Breakfast was very good and a good variety considering it was a small hotel. the location was ideal just on the edge of town but within walking distance of everything. Free car park.
Cons: Access to the hotel, I struggled with luggage up the front steps, then second day found the car park entrance to the hotel down two steps and then access to lift which the staff didn't advise of at time of booking in. This was also slightly easier for my husband to use as the entrance to hotel as he has mobility difficulties. Couldn't take his scooter into the hotel, cobbled car park was also not good.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very well maintained, nice breakfast room and very friendly staff!

Pros: The room was spacious and well lit. The bathroom was also pleasant and clean. The staff were frindly and helpful and the breakfast buffet generous and well stocked with a wide variety. The location is central and within easy reach of all the sights and restaurants in town.
Cons: The beds were too hard for our tastes. There were very noisy people leaving the disco on Saturday evening thankfully they did not remain for too long.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Central location between the railway station and the town centre. Relaxing reception area. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: Wi-Fi was virtually unusable in our room on the third floor. I had to come down to reception to check emails.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The closeness to the railway station. The room was large enough and having a bath is always a bonus especially in an area with many walking trails(good to soak). Breakfasts start from 6.00am which is great when you want to get out and about.
Cons: I have been here many times,I can’t be certain but I didn’t think the breakfasts were as good as they used to be(still good by most hotels standards).
9,2 Excellent

9,6 Excellent
Pros: This old half timbered building and the adjacent house now make up a fun railroad themed hotel just across the street from the narrow gauge railroad yard. In their restaurant drinks are delivered to the table by a large scale model train and the rooms have photos of trains on the glass doors between rooms in the suite we occupied.
Cons: Nothing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great for railway enthusiasts - good view of the steam engines from the dining room and the miniature railway in the bar was fun.
Cons: The weather was too hot to keep the windows closed so we had to endure constant traffic noise during the night.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Breakfast.TV had BBC.Steam trains across the road.
Cons: Noisy especially as it was so hot we had to leave the windows open.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Really close to the steam railway, in fact we had a great view of it right in front of our window. The room we stayed in had an good sized en-suite. Breakfast was lovely, and the beverage railway was a delight!
Cons: Our room was in the attic and was the only room up there. It was quite unnerving when we approached it, as we had to walk up a very dark staircase to get to it. I would have been nice if we had known it was an attic room, especially seeing as my partner has a knee replacement and does sometimes struggle walking up stairs. The only other thing I would say is that we didn’t realise we had to pay a special tax which came to about €12 when we checked into the hotel. We ended up having to pay by card, which required an additional charge for an overseas transaction, because the hotel hadn’t previously warned us and we had no cash to hand, so a suggestion would be to make any taxes like this clear to people booking online. We are English, and there were very few English speaking staff which made checking in and ordering dinner a little tricky!
7,1 Good
Pros: Model trains in the dining room
Cons: Dated furnitures, dirty carpeting
7,9 Good
Pros: Location. Room 105 gave me an excellent view of the HSB marshalling yard. Dinner. Using a model train to serve drinks and desserts is a great idea. Safe deposit box that works.
Cons: Breakfast. Meagre offerings. No yoghourts and pastries. You couldn't double lock the room once inside. No fan in the room for warm nights.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel with very friendly staff. We are not "ferro sexuals" (train spotters) but we never the less enjoyed to old steam engines and the general theme of the hotel. We had a wonderful studio with enough space for the five of us.
Cons: The hotel is wonderful but I would not return to the restaurant. The food is OK but there are better choices nearby in the town centre. The parking is not sufficient but we managed to squeeze the car in.
5,4 Okay
Pros: The location was good.
Cons: You were forced to register and pay a city tax. We were given a book of coupons for businesses in the area. The hotel had coupons for both the hotel and restaurant but they refused to honor the coupons. I hate being jerked around. Will not stay here again. My companion was ill after dinner and the next day due to the pesto being rancid.
