Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Marcus Whitman Hotel and Conference Center, you'll be centrally located in Walla Walla, just a 5-minute walk from Kirkman House Museum and 13 minutes by foot from Whitman College. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and express check-out. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The Marcus Whitman Hotel exceeded my expectations from the friendliness of staff, the tasteful decor and the updated room. Everything was great, I will definitely plan to stay here again when I'm in town.
6,8 Good
Pros: The hotel itself is very well appointed. We enjoyed the Marcus Whitman art exhibit.
Cons: The room lacked the attention to detail giving to the rest of the property. We shut the noisy heating unit off in January to get some sleep. There was no do not disturb tag for the door so room service bothered us. Just like the last time we stayed there were five tiny pillows instead of two or more large comfortable pillows.
9,1 Excellent
Pros: The room was awesome. Very comfortable bed.
Cons: The fire alarm went off at 3am. The entire hotel was cleared out, and we sat to sit on the sidewalk for 45 minutes while the building was searched. No fire. Obviously didn't sleep well.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: We thought the breakfast was great. Nice ambiance in general. We stayed in the newer addition.
Cons: Our television did not work and it took two phone calls to get help, but once they came, they worked their magic and it was fine.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Superb food, lovely and comfortable room. But it’s the staff that makes it all work. Superb all over.
Cons: Nope
7,5 Good
Cons: Rooms in west wing are sterile and uninviting. Smells old and feels old. Not what the pictures described at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Historical, well preserved
Cons: Lack of parking
6,5 Good
Pros: the location; the bed, the lobby
Cons: The room was outdated- even the hair dryer in the room was at a low wattage. Of the three people I came in contact with at the front desk, two were horrible. When we checked in the person made a HUGE point of saying we booked through Expedia (Kayak); they also gave us the worst room on the property- next to the elevator AND the vending machine when the hotel was not fully booked. I would NOT recommend this hotel!
8,2 Excellent
Pros: I liked the room, the very soundproof walls/floors in the old section of the hotel. The location puts you surrounded by tasting rooms. We had booked rooms in the conference center section of the hotel and paid a bit more to upgrade to stay in the old hotel. It would have been quieter to be in the conference area; the street running past the front of the hotel is very noisy and looks out at gas station signage. So although we were able to upgrade, we didn't get the best kind of king standard rooms, instead I felt they put us near the elevators and in the rooms that would be least likely to sell later that day. By the hotel staff's own admission, the old section of the hotel was very empty those nights.
Cons: It felt like in early November that the kitchen had gone into off-season presentation mode. A steak salad I had from the bar menu--since the bar was where most of the energy was the Sunday night we ate there--was soggy with a blue cheese dressing, although it was described in the menu as having a white balsamic dressing. The steak was two giant chunks of dry beef. Not sure it was steak; I asked for it well-done as I'm not much of a beefeater, but thought they'd be cooking sliced steak to-order, not hacking off a big chunk from an already cooked roast. House-made potato crisps were a bit past their prime and definitely made earlier that our order, and cold. Wine selection was good but no sommelier was in the building to assist. Coffee pot in-room was entirely plastic and there was no cream or sugar (or white stuff of any kind) for the nasty in-room brewed coffee. No tub in our room only a very nice large shower.
6,2 Good
Cons: The unnecessary ADA room was cramped due to ADA compliance.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great walkable location. Beautiful hotel with breakfast included.
Cons: We liked everything about the Marcus Whitman.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was fantastic

Pros: Efficiency in checking in & out. Proximity to university.
Cons: As we entered the room there was a dorm room like smell.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is by far the place to stay when visiting Walla Walla! I could go on and on about the Hampton inn suites! I wish I had known about it years ago. I give it a 10 on every level. I'm super picky and I'm willing to rough it and stay in a small town that gets booked out quickly due to parent weekends and fabulous wineries but the Hampton Inn is far better than the Marcus Whitman in my opinion!
5,4 Okay
Pros: Comfortable bed, good breakfast
Cons: No hot water - for TWO DAYS! So what were they using for laundry? This was on a weekend and they told us the boilers wouldn’t be repaired until Monday. What, no plumbers available on a Sunday? No corporate plans in place for emergencies such as this? This experience tells me that Hampton does NOT prioritize guest comfort over added expenses.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Room was perfect!
Cons: Shuttle didn't run as we had expected, leaving us to walk 2 miles Home at midnight. Upon checkout I was charged wrong and didn't discover until I was home and now I can't seem to get a call back to fix it!

1,0 Poor
Pros: NOTHING. THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED WAS THE TV AND INTERNET
Cons: WORST AND HARDEST BED WE EVER HAD. NEITHER OF US SLEPT ALL NIGHT. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS WAY TOO LOUD....LIKE A JET PLANE GETTING READY TO LAND. WORST HOTEL WE HAVE EVER STAYED AT.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cleaner than I expected and lots of extras for the price it was. Perfect and pet friendly
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, clean room (king). Bed & pillows were comfortable. Great shower. Great location, easy walking distance to downtown.
Cons: It's an older facility but recently updated. The folding closet door didn't work the best. Some of the breakfast food options were gone (mixed fruit bowl) & not replenished.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great every morning and they had a person right there to take care of restocking food and keeping it all clean. Maybe a better sign for the plastic wear. I like the dispenser but maybe it should be by the plates?
Cons: The pool had an issue and the heater was out. I know it was an equipment issue, but part of the reason we chose this motel was for the pool. So that was a bummer.

5,8 Okay
Pros: It was comfortable enough, yet overpriced.
Cons: We had prepaid for the room. When we arrived, the person at the desk asked if another person might have checked in for us. Of course, that was not the case. It turned out that the hotel staff gave our prepaid room to another guest WITHOUT checking their ID or credit card which was used for the booking. The hotel had also charged OUR card for THEIR incidentals before we arrived. They had no other explanation besides negligence on their part. To continue in the vein of this unprofessionalism, no one ever asked US to see our ID or credit card. We can assume that this is a common practice at this hotel. We are notifying their corporate office.

4,0 Okay
Pros: Closed the pool the day before we showed up. Was never notified, thanks.
4,8 Okay
Pros: The room looked like it has been updated. The location to downtown and restaurants was great. Pretty easy access to the highway
Cons: Even though the room was nice, little was given to details. The picture frames were damaged, the bathtub drain plug was removed, water pressure in toilet wasn't good, the sliding door was old and was difficult to open or close. The curtains wouldn't close all the way so light was coming in. The continental breakfast was less than desirable, they didn't even have hot water for the tea. When I was trying to check out, the girl at the counter couldn't help me, even though the night before I talked to them about checking out early. Because of that, I was running late for my appointment and was never given a receipt. This was not the type of Red Lion I was expecting
7,3 Good
Pros: The room was very nice, including a duvet and top sheet.
Cons: The clerk didn't know the parking garage was closed off. We were able to find street parking. The same clerk did a poor job or writing our room number on our key cover. His 9 looked more like a 7. My husband got very frustrated trying to get into the wrong room. I was glad that we didn't wake the occupants.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are super adorable and everything is super comfortable. It's close to everything in town. The staff was very friendly. Even the little soaps were hand crafted, which I liked a lot.
Cons: The televisions seemed to have problems. Everything was working super slowly. The covered garage had some garbage in it after the night, which was kind of sketchy.
6,0 Good
Pros: location to Whitman and downtown
Cons: Could use some updating. Red Lions at one time had a reputation which i would say rivaled a Hilton. However, over the years, they've let themselves (in general) go down hill. The Walla Walla location overall is clean. The carpet could use a good cleaning and the roof is covered with moss-not a good first impression. Outside colors are atrocious.

Pros: Loved the friendly and attentive staff, the wine bar (and nibbles) and back patio. Will definitely stay here again if we return to Walla Walla. Typically hotel coffe tastes like dirty water, I appreciated that we could select three different strengths
Cons: The breakfast bar was well maintained but I didn't like the scrambled eggs ad I wish the bacon had been crisp

Pros: The bed was very comfortable, loved all the pillows, and the fresh crisp sheets! Very nice selection of breakfast options and the person in charge was a delight and smiling.
Cons: The air conditioner was very noisy for sleeping and the weather wasn’t cooperating to keep the window open. On Sunday there was a billboard right outside the breakfast room/bar advertising local wines and beers and appetizers 2-6.......but no one was around.
