Pros: Arrived on a wet afternoon in early October. It was unseasonably chilly but the heating had been put on thoughtfully, well ahead of our arrival, so the room was cosy. A cup of tea and a huge piece of delicious cake completed a warm but relaxed welcome from our host. Comfortable beds and nice breakfast. Guide dog Samson was welcomed too with no problems or issues.

Pros: Great room. Ideal for thirsk town center. 15 minutes walk. Great little town. Also staying here is Ideal if you are a racing fan. Thirsk racecourse 1 mile away. Train station is 5 minutes walk as we went to York via train instead of driving. Now back to Amanda and poplars. Meet and greet on arrival and showed us to our rooms. Great communication regarding breakfast time's and where town was. Now the breakfast was awesome and I mean awesome in a lovely dining area. Brilliant service. Thanks again Amanda. And the girls too.
Cons: Nothing to dislike. Great room's
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property exceeded my expectation. The hostess Amanda was really friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. She went out of her way to provide over and above what is expected of a B&B. The room was large, clean and very comfortable with chairs, a desk and with provision of tea facilities with fresh milk provided if required. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. Presentation was good and overall an excellent experience. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others.

Pros: The room was lovely with a really comfy bed. The resterarant was excellent.
Cons: The bar needs a comfy settee around the fire. To make a cosy area away from the tables used for eating.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The nicest pub and lovely rooms the best Visited been for years.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptionally clean, great food, excellent value for money
Cons: We didn’t stay longer
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!! The whole place is amazing xx
Cons: Nothing
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Location very nice. Bar lovely, restaurant good
Cons: Did not get the room I had booked and the attitude when I complained. They said it was a booking.com fault and I would need to take it up with them but I had actually received a pre welcome email from the black horse direct confirming my room booking but they had allocated it to someone else. We ended up with the tiniest of rooms which was not at all fit for purpose. Furthermore, I emailed the manager on getting home but received no response - basically I was just completely ignored. I will not be returning.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable beds. Lovely breakfast. High quality decor. Quiet room. Friendly staff. Plenty of car park space. Just a pity we didn't need dinner (as the food is highly thought of locally) because we were visiting relatives all day.
Cons: We had a family room with a king size bed and a single (actually in a little room of its own). Both very comfortable but the king size was against a wall on one side (the side I would normally get out) therefore one person would have to climb in and out from the bottom of the bed. I guess that would be fine for younger people. Didn't work well for me as I have a dodgy right hip, but I enjoyed sleeping in the single with the Beatrix Potter toys all round the room! (Also against a wall on one side, but I could get out on the left side which is better for me). Only other grouse is that we arrived around 9 pm on a winter night and the room felt colder than outside!! Heated up well when we turned the heater on, but I would have expected it to be turned on before we arrived as they knew we would be arriving late.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was perfect, well presented with attention to detail, I had a great night’s sleep. Having the breakfast basket as I was leaving early in the morning was an unexpected bonus.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: From first arriving to departing we were made to feel special and valued as a customer. Nothing was too much trouble. The surroundings were great and welcoming. The atmosphere in the bar was warm and friendly. Food was outstanding and piping hot. All in all wonderful! We will without doubt recommend to family and friends and we are already looking as to when we can next book in!

7,5 Good
Pros: The location, staff and food were wonderful.
Cons: The bathroom was the biggest let down . The bath plug didn't fit so I had the quickest bath ever because the water was draining away ! The toilet was dirty underneath and around the bottom of the stand . The taps on the sink were very loose. The seal on the bottom of the shower screen was mouldy and the edge of the bath all ingrained with dirt. Very disappointing for the price of the room .

The Three Tuns Hotel Wetherspoon - Thirsk - Bedroom
9
8,3 Excellent (505 reviews)
Overview Reviews
This old coaching inn with a traditional welcome rests in the centre of a Yorkshire market town, made famous by James Herriot. The Three Tuns Hotel is close to both the A1 and the A19 for business travellers and 2 national parks for those with more time to spare. The hotel is less than an hour's drive from York, Harrogate and Durham. The hotel lies between 2 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. Built in 1698 by the local lords of the manor, by 1740 it was a coaching inn. It still retains many of its original features including the staircase and panelled dining room. The original stables still exist today. There is a bar that serves real ale. The most famous guests were William Wordsworth, accompanied by his sister Dorothy, who stayed in 1802, and James Herriot, better known in Thirsk as Alf Wight. Alf wrote about his life as a country vet in books such as 'All Creatures Great and Small', and regularly came in for liquid inspiration. His old surgery is nearby and is now a visitors' centre.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and owners were absolutely fabulous, very friendly welcomed the dog with open arms, the rooms were comfortable and roomy, the food was great and portions very generous and the prices cheap. We will definately be returning to this lovely neck of the woods especially as the bus stop to Thirsk and Rippon was situated right outside the pub. Thank you to everyone at 'The Vale of York' we had a great weekend.
Cons: Minor points, shelving would have been an advantage in the bathroom and a bedside cabinet on both sides of the bed, but these were just little things, nothing that spoiled our stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are amazing, the owners went above and beyond to help us out. This was my second stay at the vale of york and I cant wait to book again.
Cons: There was nothing about my stay that I didnt like.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location for where we we going was excellent. the decor of the bar and Restaurent was lovely very clean and comfortable. The breakfast and evening meal we had were excellent value for money. Nicely cooked and very tasty. Staff were friendly efficient and attentive. Thank you Vale of York.
Cons: Room 1 where we stayed was missing the door curtain and a tile missing over hand basin. Otherwise was clean. Perhaps some headboards fixed to the wall above the beds would finish the rooms and protect the paintwork.
7,7 Good
Pros: Very friendly and accommodating staff. Conveniently located near train station. Room was small but adequate.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The warmest welcome which carried on right through our stay. Food is amazing value and you get lots of it, I recommend you go down to dinner in anything with an elasticated waist, but you do not lose quality with all that quantity. The room was large with lots of little extras. But most of all our dogs were treated as guests too, they got their own little breakfasts in the morning. And they are already missing pub dog Tara ❤ Can't wait to come back!
Cons: Minor thing really, but need somewhere to store stuff in the bathroom. Not ideal keeping toothpaste and toothbrushes on top of loo, but this would not stop me from staying again.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Been several times nice room. Good selection in restaurant and at breakfast.
Cons: Central heating radiator not working and very dim light in bedroom.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Food, beer, staff, room all great Not often I don't find something to comment on, but the Angle surprised me
Cons: Nothing to dislike, will definitely stay again
7,0 Good
Pros: Large accommodation with impressive outside area & friendly locals. Check-in was easy, but check out, Not so.
Cons: For me, a very poor nights sleep due to broken springs in my 'superior bed' (room 15) an unacceptable excuse for any Hotel accommodation. Complaint about lack of sleep due to bed mattress was poorly handled by the Duty Manger, who refused to accept any responsibility citing 'our reviewers tell a different story' unfortunately the reviewers wont be driving 300 miles back to London on 3 hours of broken sleep! Needless to say I do not recommend this hotel and will not be staying here again. If your in room 15, I hope you manage a more comfortable stay than I did.
4,0 Okay
Cons: Heard lots of people comment how cold the restaurant was. Our food was really bad, barely warm mushroom starter and the pastry on my pie was as hard as stone. We received a free drink for our inconvenience.
