Pros:The car I rented stunk like crazy of weed. I drove most of my trip with the windows open.Cons:Payless counter actually open and not at a different rental co.Reviewed Apr 21 2021

biggest concern was the physical condition of thePros:Price was good for the size vehicle we received and the agents were most considerate and the rental process was pleasant;this was a lasvegas rental for 5 daysCons:the inside windows of the vehicle were terrible, we had to stop at the first gas station and clean the windshield windows as I could hardly see; lots of dents and scratches, bent wheel hubs which told lme the car had been driven recklessly and I was concerned about a breakdown, but it did not happen, thank-goodness; I expressed my concern to the Payless agent and she told me take pics with my phone of the present damage to the vehicle, which I did, but I was still concerned about being blamed for something I did not cause;Reviewed Dec 10 2016

Cons:Instead of an economy car I reserved I was giving a 20 mpg gas-guzzler which resulted in much higher total cost of the trip. I asked what is the meaning of the cheaper “determined by supplier” option if they do not honor more expensive class pick reservation anyway, no answer. I arrived at designated drop off location and there was nobody at the Payless booth. I had to go all the way to the sales office just to find out that I have to go all the way back to the booth where they issue keys for the new rentals (entirely different section).Reviewed Dec 7 2019

Several Things Gone WrongPros:* Free upgrade due to disputed insurance purchase (see bad review) * Shuttle Service to Las Vegas AirportCons:Terrible: * DO NOT buy insurance offered on KAYAK for rental car, Payless DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT in case of ACCIDENT and THEFT (e.g. If they car is damaged, the KAYAK insurance will cover some of the damage, but you will be charged $100.00 A DAY while they replace the car into the PAYLESS FLEET!). I wasted money on that KAYAK insurance and had to buy the Payless Car Rental Insurance which was an additional $27.00. (Note: They did give me a free upgrade because of the insurance mishap) * I was offered an upgrade and when I went to pick up the car they STILL tried to give me the small - economy size (even as the paperwork I handed them had a totally different car type, model, and parking space number). It felt like they were trying to "get over" on me. * I returned the car with a FULL gas tank and they have managed to CHARGE ME for it not being FULL. At check out, I have the documentation that shows it was returned FULL, but still charged $32.00 I am waiting for a response/refund from PAYLESS and truly hope I receive it. * Car was clean for the most part, but still had old soda cans on the floor in the backseat. Not a big deal, but attention to detail is lacking.Reviewed Oct 27 2016

First and Last Rental from PaylessPros:NOTHING - TERRIBLE EXPERIENCECons:The desk clerk, Jessica, was rude and unhelpful. I told her several times that I didn't want to buy their insurance package. She was relentless in trying to sell it. I eventually had to explain the relevant law to her. They didn't have the class of vehicle I wanted (Full Size) and the only option I was given was a pick up truck. This wasn't good for me because I had to collect some customers and I had expensive equipment with me and the vehicle had no trunk. The desk agent in the parking garage was eating his lunch when we arrived to collect the vehicle. The truck was covered in dents and scratches and was filthy. The straps on the tailgate were missing and I cut my hand trying to open it.Reviewed Apr 27 2016

Cons:I waited in line for over an hour. That was ok I understand it was busy that wasn't the problem. I finally get to the the desk and all five computer crash? All 5 employees rebooted there computer and still they weren't working they called there supervisor and said it might take awhile . I waited another hour for them to tell me it going to be awhile while they call a IT guy. So went to Alamo and paid twice the money for the same SUV I was renting. But it only took 20 minutes and I was on my way. After 3 days and then returning it I had no problem I have other trips planned in April ,July and Sept. I might try your company one more time. I hope this was just a freak thing.Reviewed Jan 25 2021

Rip OFF!!Pros:Car itselfCons:I was quoted around $85 for the whole 2 days and I have been charged $398 now, I am going to dispute the charge, this is not what I had agreed to!! The person at the counter asked me many questions that made this car pick up extremely slow and I had to rush to my appointment. Next he told me he would give me an upgrade for an extra $25 a day instead of the usual $60 for that car, he completely changed the amount and now I got charged more than 3 times what he promised me. Stay away from that rental car company!!Reviewed Apr 8 2016

Pros:Jeep Compass performed well. I would rent from Payless again.Cons:Transient tire pressure warning light came on for several minutes in the middle of nowhere on the way to Death Valley. Payless in Las Vegas might have warned us to expect this. The desk counter rep did not explain in detail that the Jeep Compass was virtually the same in its specifications as the Payless alternative of a Jeep Patriot. Patriot has a bad rep. The lack of Jeep Cherokees in the Payless pickup lines at Las Vegas airport made the Payless online offer of a Cherokee look like a bait-and-switch.Reviewed Mar 29 2017
