8,0 Excellent
Pros: I've stayed here before. It's always good value and convenient for visiting colleagues in Oakham - been upgraded a bit since I was last here. This time I was in the more modern wing, which is more spacious but lacks some of the character of the older rooms. Nice modern bathroom, comfortable bed, good pillows, plenty of hot water, good tea & coffee making, excellent breakfast from 7am included. As before, friendly staff, a good welcome and I like the new bar/bistro bit for a late night drink
Cons: Soundproofing between the rooms was not great. Heating went off a bit early. Could do with a bit more desk space for working

Cons: Bed was uncomfy but that was just my opinion
7,0 Good
Pros: Dinner was very good. I had the roast dinner and apart from the Yorkshire pudding which was like shoe leather it was excellent. Service from staff very good. Lovely atmosphere in restaurant.
Cons: The breakfast when it came was very good. However, I was told that the restaurant opened for breakfast at 7.00. When I went down at 7.00 nothing was set out and I had to wait quite a long time for my breakfast which was irritating as I had to leave the hotel for an appointment and I ended up having to rush. I will add that the service from the staff was exceptional.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a lovely place and the staff and food are fab!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: What a cracking location. Friendly staff and good facilities. Will stay again.
7,5 Good
Pros: Staff generally very pleasant and helpful, except for one occasion mentioned below. Room and bathroom, indeed whole site extremely clean and well kept. Location brilliant, picturesque and during better weather would offer lots of activities. The pool itself with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi was good.
Cons: Room was very small and, even including breakfast, not worth the cost per night. Bed and pillows uncomfortable. Changing rooms for swimming pool small and overcrowded especially when children's lessons were happening. Inappropriate to have girls of around 6-8 (guessing!) unclothed in mens changing along with unclothed men wandering around. Small number of cubicles didn't help in this respect, although one would have thought that both the men and the fathers with children would have been more discreet. Arrangements for obtaining and returning towels to a distant reception silly. Although the staff were generally excellent, strange on one occasion to be told at the pool reception there were no towels available with the presumption that we'd simply go away. Towels were found when we didn't go away. Quality of breakfast food was okay but choice for the cooked part, poor, with ingredients for a full English only offered. No options. Having to signals waiters for more coffee rather than have pots on the table or a jug at a central point was a bit of a pain.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The main house is just fabulous! And the location by Rutland Water is marvellous! If you add to this an helpful and friendly staff, very clean place, the swimming pool and the spa, the breathtaking surrounding...you can't miss it out! I was very impressed also with the hotel restaurant, we stayed over Halloween and there was a fixed menu really top tier! Frankly, they exceeded my expectations
9,2 Excellent
Pros: All areas were very clean and tidy and in an excellent state of repair. No issues
Cons: The location of the room to the function room was not ideal given the weather
6,0 Good
Pros: Facilities good. View outstanding
Cons: Bed too hard. Decor round restaurant area could do with a freshen up - looking a bit tired
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were small but cosy and warm as well as being spotless. Comfy bed as well.
Cons: The only reason I marked it down slightly was the fact that the accommodation was separate from the main building where you have breakfast. Also the barman was a bit grumpy and slammed the bar shut dead on 11 despite several guests being in the bar.
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: The location was fab!
Cons: The room was horrible. I know it was a budget room but the room was way too small and the bed was too hard. The mattress was very uncomfortable. The food in the restaurant was very expensive and there wasn't enough choice. Seems that you're given different options in the restaurant but I preferred the options that the bar menu had (which was limiting).
6,0 Good
Pros: Lovely location, staff friendly
Cons: Badly designed room. Could hear every time the water was used next door. The water tank kicked into gear very loudly. No curtains on the bathroom windows . Also we heard the next doors mobile phone ping all night as they received messages as the electrical point was right next to our wall ! The weather wasn't great ( which is no fault of the hotel) but to get to everything you have to go outside ! Felt like it needed updating - decor very old fashioned and tired.

Pros: Stunning location
Cons: Staff looked like they were all new
8,5 Excellent
Pros: The superb food with excellent friendly service.
Cons: The superior room was a little out of date and in need of a refurb. A new bathroom too eventually one expects.
5,0 Okay
Pros: wonderful building, lovely decor in a great location.
Cons: Was served by a very rude head waiter, pretty much ruined the meal. Was served a cold starter, mentioned it and he got moody and took it away, he just reheated, not fresh (seared pigeon breast). Room was more basic than expected. Full English Breakfast (gluten free option) was just one bacon, one egg, half tomato, one mushroom, very small and unsatisfying. The entire place was staffed by teens (lovely teens though, really polite and trying to do best they could), but meant service was a little lacking in polish.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed for a family celebration, everything was perfect
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Cosy, warm room to return to on a cold evening. Excellent restaurant.
Cons: One member of staff a little brusque. Everyone else very friendly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Courtyard, the room, breakfast, clean, quaint
Cons: One bar staff employee miserable
5,0 Okay
Pros: The old part of the hotel is lovely and really quirky. Good quality toiletries in the bathroom.
Cons: The newer part where my bedroom was, was less well kept. The linings of the curtains were torn, the bed was not particularly comfortable, and the interior of the room looked nothing like the photos in the details.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic band playing “The Hound Dogs”

Pros: Breakfast was excellent. Building lovely. Room a good size.
Cons: Room was cold on arrival. Radiator didn't work although there was an electric heater. Arriving at 11:10 pm it would have been great if it had been switched on.
