Pros: Very friendly and sooo clean. Breakfast nice overlooking the beautiful pool. The one lunch I had was very tasty and well presented. These guys also do cooking classes so make sure to book one! Large room had its own terrace which was a bonus. Next time I'm in Merida, this is where I'll stay :0)
Cons: Only tiny flaw could be no lock on the inside of the room door. Not essential of course and didn't bother me. I know Merida is super safe for Mexico but you never know!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Rita Jan take care of you like a five-star hotel. Great hosts ! How lovely this hotel is in the Central District of Merida. Comfortable spacious and delicious food with personal chefs. Perfectly manicured and clean. I love this little hotel. A delicious breakfast included. Wonderful fish for dinner. Chef Jacob and David do a great job. Rita helped arrange a personal driver so we could stop at the ruins of Chichen Itza and tour then a cenote to swim , a stop for lunch and continue on to Cozumel ferry by 5 pm in the same day $240 total what a timesaver! Very helpful people. Seconded visit here it’s great.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay in this hotel was definitely too short, the location is perfect, the staff very nice, and the food excellent. Very close to the main touristic spots in the city and best breakfast so far. I really recommend this location
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Host was extremely welcoming, warm genuine & very helpful & informative about local sights, restaurants & tourist attractions. The accommodation was absolutely spotless, great ambience, fantastic food. I cannot rate this place highly enough. I have travelled alot & it is unusual for me not to find some niggles with higher end hotels. If you stop here you will love this place!!
Cons: Nothing regarding the hotel. It was fantastic. My only preference if i was to be extremely fussy would be a slightly closer location to the main square (10 mins walk).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Out of all the hotels we stayed during our 18 day trip in Mexico, we felt the most relaxed and comfortable at this hotel. Not only it provides all the hotel functions to our full satisfaction with strong wifi even in the room, spacious room, comfortable bed, strong shower, and a much welcomed swimming pool after a day out in the Yucatan heat and power outlets at all the places needed (an often overlooked feature) it was the only hotel we stayed that had power outlets by each bed side without us having to fight over for phone charging. What's more is that while with all the comfort and privacy from staying at a hotel, we felt the care and warmth of the hotel owners as if we were staying with a good friend. They thought about our needs before we were even aware of such needs, such as reminding and giving us water on our way out marching in the midday sun, packed towels for our swimming in the cenote before we even thought about bringing towels! Last but not the least, we enjoyed the chats with other guests at the hotel over a free beer at the happy hour in the evening. We were very pleased that we chose this hotel.

Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, the staff were fantastic! Bed was large and very comfortable and they couldn’t do enough to help us. We left early on the last day and they made us breakfast to take with us. Fantastic service all round, thank you

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Small (12 units) hotel managed by its owner and lovely wife. Their attention to detail and commitment to provide top service is obvious. Close to the Centro but far enough to avoid the tourist traffic and noise. The sit down breakfast is delicious and a varied choice is provided. The only warning is that the bath is upstairs (loft) which may be inconvenient to someone with a disability.
Cons: Perfect. We are coming back.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was good. The hotel has a water dispenser which was great if you want to be considerate of the environment. It's better than having to buy water bottles each day!
Cons: Breakfast was served on my first day but wasn't on the second and I'm not sure why.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: This Boutique Hotel is very beautiful. Is very well decorated has it shows in the pictures. All the decoration is very beautiful.
Cons: The breakfast could be improved. You need to choose between one type of eggs out of 4. 3 pieces of watermelon and 3 slices of papaya. Juice and coffee.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The room is absolutely charing
Cons: There were not a lot of people in the building, the personal there was not always very attentive (we had to look for them for breakfast etc.)
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely visit x
Cons: Maybe the noisy traffic but hey we were on a Main Street so was expected
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - Central location - Authentic design - Very helpful staff - Well equipped - Fresh breakfast
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very nice and the staff was wonderful. Very attentive to our needs.
Cons: The main area where breakfast was served was not air conditions nor were there fans. It was very hot. They would not match price offered on expedia.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Behind a very unassuming front door is a wonderful hotel with everything you could want for a stay in Mérida. We had a family room, the kids loved having a bed on the mezzanine level. The breakfasts and pool were great added bonuses. The staff were lovely and were able to give us tips on the best paces to eat and where to avoid. This was a perfect for all our needs.

Pros: The refurbishment of this old house near Paseo Montejo was very well done and it makes you feel in a very comfortable environment.

Pros: Staff were excellent and extremely helpful.
Cons: The place was incredible. Second to none.
7,5 Good
Pros: Attractive
Cons: Has to eat outside .bitten by mosquitos. No way to escape
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It is beautifully maintained building. The road on the Main Street isn’t that great but once you get in, it’s quiet and chilled place. The breakfast was amazing and huge volume, and staff were very helpful to meet my requests. My room was massive, but seating ideas might be required for more than 2 travelers. The internet worked perfectly, and enough pressure of the hot water.
Cons: It’s a bit off from the main square, and particularly the first 2 blocks to the center were sort of deserted and I worried a bit to walk back in the evening. It was probably the off season but the pool wasn’t maintained.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Te attention to every detail majes you effectively feel as you are living in your house in Merida of XIX century. Room is enormous and lovely decorated. The house invites you to relax and contemplate, with quiet halls and silence rooms. I haven't had such a good sleep and rest in a while

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast buffet was good but our tummies did not agree with it.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It's a well-kept hotel. The air conditioner was silent and effective, the bed was comfortable. The amenities were a nice touch.
Cons: The fact that the car had to be valet parked, and there was no general information in the room. I had no way of knowing check out times, if there was room service, what time the restaurant opened and closed etc. Those things are nice to know. The card key system could be a problem for some who might be unfamiliar with that system. It's always good to know if you step outside the room without taking the key out of the wall, you are locked out. None of these were major issues for me because I was only staying one day, but they could be issues for others.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice business hotel, with parking placed
Cons: No fridge, location far from centre
7,5 Good
Pros: swimming pool on the rooftop (although shallow - more to hold a drink & chat) friendly staff located on top of the boulevard with restaurants galore
Cons: gym doesn’t have AC, only a fan in my room near lifts, I could hear people coming and going at night, which woke me up several times had to pay extra to use a computer
Intercontinental Hotels Presidente Merida - Mérida - Building
7
9,0 Excellent (1 383 reviews)
R1 922+
Overview Reviews
Once a Spanish general’s stately mansion, this Merida luxury hotel blends colonial elegance with modern convenience. Relax on our outdoor terrace and enjoy the finest tequila selection in the city. Explore historic Yucatán and the tree-lined splendor of Paseo de Montejo, once Mexico’s wealthiest district. This Merida luxury hotel is also well placed to explore the area’s fascinating heritage, including Uxmal and the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza.
6,3 Good
Pros: Easy to find in Merida and convenient to park - decent size, clean and quiet hotel room with a comfortable king-size bed.
Cons: Highly unprofessional staff which is really uncommon and even quite shocking for the Intercontinental Brand. We did not feel welcomed in any way ; on the contrary. As the most striking example : the fridge/mini-bar in the room is locked with a key which they did not provide us with - only until after a deposit of 1,000 peso was made (!?). Because this experience in Merida was so disappointing, we decided NOT to stay in the Intercontinental Hotel in Cancun (which had been our original plan). I would advise Intercontinental to train the staff in client-friendliness
6,2 Good
Pros: Location, quietness
Cons: Bathroom, a/c, concierge service, quality
7,5 Good
Pros: Location was good
Cons: Lobby is not beautiful and it was full of big “art objects” occupying the space
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The property is great, very clean, great location, anazing rooms, amazing breakfast. All the staff members are very helpful, always there to help you!
Cons: However, not all the staff members speak a good English. Some of them find it difficult to explain even simple things.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome hotel. Like staying in a museum.
Cons: No fridge in room unless you unlocked mini bar.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: It is a luxury hotel with plenty of additional services and amenities at (close to) Mexican prices. The location of it is very convenient, right at the beginning of one main street with lots of cafes and eateries, leading into historic Merida.
Cons: The swimming pool area was a bit of a disappointment. It is a very small deck with like 6 loungers crammed right between the hotel wings. No sun reaches there at any time and having two people on the deck already feels crowded so don't count on using it. Also, the WiFi signal was strong everywhere but the connection was inconsistent, constantly cutting out for short periods of time. Checking mail and messaging was fine, but not good at all for VoIP calls or god forbid, streaming.
6,2 Good
Pros: Location, easy check-in, check-out, breakfast buffet
Cons: Bathroom design, surroundings outside window
6,3 Good
Pros: THE BREAKFAST WAS EXCELLENT. THE HOTEL IS WELL LOCATED. BUT THE BUILDING, ELEVATORS, POOL, ROOM SERVICES ARE OLD AND SLOW. THE POOL TOO SMALL AND THE LOBBY BAR TO SMALL ALSO. I WOULD RATHER STAY AT THE FIESTA AMERICANA ONE BLOCK AWAY NEXT TIME AND I AM AN IHG MEMBER.
Cons: THE ROOM TOO LOUSY, IT WAS COMMUNICATED WITH THE OTHER ROOM.THE LIGHTING IS OLD. THERE IS NO SERVIBAR SERVICE. AND THE ROOM SERVICE IS TOO SLOW. THE POOL IS TOO SMALL AND A LOT OF CHILDREN FOR SUCH AN SMALL POOL. THE GYMNASIUM IS REALLY RIDICULOUS. ONLY 4 PIECES OF EQUIPMENT AND NO BODY BULIDING AND IT WAS ALWAYS CLOSED AND HOT.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds, the bathrooms, the beds, the service, the pools, the gardens, the food. The pet-friendly policy!
Cons: There was nothing outright negative about our stay. It was delightful. The rooms could feature some more art and the beds could include a heavier comforter/bedspread since the A/C is necessary and gets the room very cold. Despite that, the bedding was great and we slept really well.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful!! We were staying for 1 night only but we loved the hotel that much that we book for 2 extra nights Staff very friendly and helpful
Cons: The hotel is not in the town center, however it did work well for us as we preferred a quite place

Pros: Food
Cons: Long walk to rooms
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We chose the option for breakfast to be included in our stay. The breakfast was delicious, although it’s not your typical continental breakfast. It was all local and regional type food, along with some of your basics, like an omelet station. Great way to try the local food!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, great staff, clean. No negatives in my opinion.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is superbly located, and paired with great service, you can't go wrong.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: I appreciated the quality of maid service. The mural was extraordinary!
Cons: The room itself had a musty smell.. a repulsive musty stench came out whenever you turned on the sink or tub faucets....the air conditioner was so loud we didn't have an uninterrupted sleep our entire stay, we reported the problem, maintenance was sent to our room but nothing was done... there is a sewage processing facility with an open sludge vat by the pool area that is separated by a fence, which explains the nasty odor that permeated the air, the restaurant service was slow and unattentive, yet they were quick to give us our bill before we were even finished with our meal. The restaurant itself was not very clean. Even though a score of 3.8 was given based on booking.com calculations, I would rate this place 2.0 based on my experience during my stay.
5,0 Okay
Pros: the pool and updated floor and lobby. the person that checked us in was very knowledgeable and pleasant. was able answer all our questions.
Cons: our room was dirty. the lamp same was dirty and on the sheets can see the dirt. our floor needed to be upgraded. the first floor was nice, bright and updated. our floor had dirty carpet and very dark.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was simpathetic to my complaints and were happy to cancel the contract without charging any fee.
Cons: The whole hotel smelled of Mold from the corridors to the rooms. Curtains were stained. Maintainance is urgently needed there. It didn't have a mini bar. It is overpriced for what it offers.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly staff.
Cons: No free Breakfast as many other Holiday Inns in U.S.- Need to be more clear about this in Ad.

Cons: Too old furniture &decoration
7,1 Good
Pros: The pool area is beautiful and great for an afternoon swim and relaxing.
Cons: Wifi wasn’t available so we had no access to using our phones or television the entire stay. When asking for some sort of refund the receptionist said it was out of their control.
7,4 Good
Pros: Staff was helpful. Close to the middle of town. Bus stop right outside the door. Very quiet rooms. Beds were comfortable. Surprisingly quiet given the noise outside. No venders allowed in the hotel. Pool area very beautiful and relaxing. Shower nice. Restaurant very good. Breakfast was surprisingly nice. It wasn't like Marriott or Hilton's bar breakfast. It was free breakfast off the regular menu. Mexicans love to feed their guests. Rooms weres huge and very charming.
Cons: The bathroom ceiling was full of mold. Walking into the warm room was gross. A double room meant two double beds. Way too small. Asked to change rooms and was given a king size and double. Two queens easily could fit in this enormous room. Bedding old. 4 people staying in the room, two small waters given each day. Not enough potable water. Wifi temperamental but sufficient. Pool too cold to swim in.

Cons: They did not accept to charge on the room drinks on the pool , the breakfast poor , safe was very difficult we had issues to understand how it works
6,7 Good
Pros: It was central and easy to get to the main square and local restaurants and shops. Very nice pool area and garden. Our room (5) was spacious (4 windows), the bathroom was nice too.
Cons: The towels need to be upgraded. On our first few days we were given towels that were bare and a bit shabby, one hand towel had a hole in it. There were some stains on them too. I did mention this to the receptionist and for the rest of our stay the quality improved a bit. Some of the sheets had a few stains on them too, the pillow looked a bit brown under the pillow slip. The hotel leaves lights on most of the night. They are on the stair and landing and kept us from a full night’s sleep. Unfortunately the curtains didn’t keep it out either. I did mention it to the receptionist as we were leaving and she was astonished that they were on for so long even though the hotel offers a 24 hour service. The breakfast that is included in the price is quite basic and we only had 4, preferring to explore other places. The staff are somewhat confused at times as to what is included and I got a massively cracked cup two mornings in a row!
Overview Reviews
Rosas & Xocolate was designed for guests who take romance seriously. Located in the grand city of Mérida—where the famed Mayan civilization first discovered cocoa—the haute pueblo hotel, endowed with one of the region's most sought-after restaurants, is the social hub of the Yucatán's cultural capital. Throughout its 17 rooms, Rosas & Xocolate perfectly melds the rustic elegance of a historical baron's mansion with modern accoutrements and sensory delights. Winning the Iconos del Diseño award in 2011 for the best architectural restoration in Mexico, Rosas & Xocolate is a hybrid of old colonial architecture and contemporary charm. With two colonial mansions as a jumping-off point, architect Salvador Reyes Rios and Josefina Larrain managed to restore the timeworn structures, which feature high ceilings and a bevy of private terraces and balconies, and outfit them with cedar woods, cotton linens, and local materials such as handmade cement tiles and chucum stucco—all to luxurious effect.

Pros: The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the restaurant was great! The location is perfect as well.
Cons: The hotel staff was somewhat attentive, but the restaurant staff was great.

Cons: Nothing
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property and rooms. Extraordinary restaurant
Cons: Insufficient lighting in corridors and staircases made walking treacherous after dusk. Room bathroom lighting was also inadequate. They charged 50 pesos for a lost card key. Not a big deal but they should let you at registration.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved my stay here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful -- they went above and beyond when I wanted to rent a car, and assisted me with arrangements with such thoughtfulness. Bruno at the front desk was especially wonderful. The location is great as it is very central with lots of fun stuff in the area or within a 5-10 min walk. Plus, the pool is gorgeous. The room itself was large and very comfortable. I had suite 106 which is the closest room to the upstairs bar so it was definitely lively and louder than other rooms. I didn't mind at all because it wasn't outrageously loud and I enjoyed the music, but request another room if you're sensitive to that. The breakfast that is included with the room is also excellent. You can essentially pick anything off the menu with the exception of a few add-ons (fresh juices and a couple of other items cost extra). Food was delicious.
Cons: Nothing, I truly enjoyed everything about this hotel.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Casa del Balam is very well located in the heart of the historic district within an easy walk to the main plaza. We were there for a scientific meeting which was right across the street at the University of the Yucatan. Restaurants are all nearby and the one attached to the Casa was as good as any. We had breakfast every day (we were there a week) in the Casa's courtyard beside the fountain and serenaded by the white-winged doves. The room was on the second floor so we walked up and down and it became a haven for those really hot days you get in May in the Yucatan. The room was always clean and cool and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was most welcoming and ready to arrange a tour, give you more bottled water or answer any questions. All in all a great place to stay for a very reasonable price.
Cons: We liked everything.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The water pressure is excellent. The sheets and towels were soft and comfortable. Location is central. I had an amazing stay as a solo traveler.
Cons: I didnt realize the minibar needed a key to open and I wasn't given one at check-in. I ended up going to the attached restaurant instead. No big deal.

Pros: The property was lovely! It was sparking clean and beautiful! The location was central to everything we needed. The best part was the hotel staff member, Carlos! He was the most helpful, kind person. He took his time to answer all my questions, he helped me decide on our tour outing and booked a wonderful tour for us. Additionally, he helped us book a rental car for our day of independent exploring and on our final day he reserved our private driver to get us to our next destination. He was always smiling and willing to help!

Pros: The hotel is really beautiful and super good located. The personal at the hotel is very friendly and they will make everything possible to make you feel welcome.
Cons: The breakfast area is rather small, I would recommend you to ask for the best time to have breakfast so that you don’t have to wait too long for your food.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was converted from an old house, but they did a really good job remodeling into a hotel. Loved everything, except the street it's on which is a little sketchy. However, it's very close to popular Merida locations and the area is generally very calm.
7,9 Good
Pros: Staff so kind, room clean, Just 7/8 minute walking from the downtown
Cons: Breakfast could be more various
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Even though our room was small and did not have a view, this was a pleasant place to stay. We were on the top floor (there are two) and could sit out on the terrace in the evening. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and nice to have on the patio. The hotel is not on the main street, but it is very close to downtown, just a couple blocks away. We would stay there again if we go back to Merida.
Cons: We had expected to have laundry service, since the website said it did, but we had to walk three blocks to a different hotel to drop off our laundry.

Pros: We selected this hotel because it is right next door to the US Consulate, the rooms were modern and affordable and they are a pet friendly property. We wrote to the hotel in advance to ask what if any special requirements they had for pets and did not receive a reply. Upon arrival, we learned that the hotel needs a copy of our dog's vaccinations. This wouldn't have been a problem, had we received a reply from the email we sent well in advance - it is hard to come by at 8pm at night, when the papers are 4 hours away. Eduardo was working and saved the day - he allowed us to have our vet forward the documents in the morning and held on to a cash deposit to keep us honest. He was very helpful, providing dining recommendations that were fantastic. The room was clean, comfortable and very well designed, we had a perfect visit and look forward to our next trip to Merida. Thanks Eduardo!
