Pros:The vehicle performed nicely throughout the trip.Cons:Both pick up and drop off were less than stellar experiences. In pick up, I felt jerked around a bit when they offered me an upgrade with unsuitable price increases. Also, when I picked up the vehicle, it had a distinct smell of cigarettes which I find quite distasteful. Fortunately, the smell went away after driving it for a few hours. More problematic however was that the gas tank was not full. This was during the time when PG&E was shutting down power throughout CA. I felt lucky to make it out of the state without running out of gas and finding myself stuck because stations wouldn't be able to use their pumps. On drop off, the town of Everett was completely torn up with construction. It would have been nice if Hertz had provided me with instructions in advance for how to get to the rental office. Also, the agent tried a joke which completely backfired. We worked through it, but it was not fun.Reviewed Jan 7 2020

Poor customer ServicePros:It was a drivable car that did get me where I needed to go.Cons:I reserved it through Kayak and got a great price with Hertz on the car. But then when I arrived I had to rent the car for two more days at my expense because they weren't open on Sunday or Monday because of the holiday. I couldn't return the car to the airport instead because it would cost even more!Reviewed Sep 6 2016

Great beginning, poor endingPros:Everything except the ending. We rented a Nissan Sentra in Santa Clara, CA. The process went smoothly, we mastered the GPS (never having used one) and had a great trip to Bellingham, WA. where we turned it in. No problems. In Vancouver BC, we rented a Chevy Malibou at the train station. The agent went out of his way to make sure we had what we needed at the best price. We told him we could return the car there, but needed to be at the airport by 4:45. No problem, he said, just drop off the car, put the keys in the drop box, go around the corner and call a cab. We never did master the GPS as it wanted us to return to the station no matter what we entered as the destination.Cons:What we didn't like besides the GPS was the fact that we did return the car to the station by 3:45 AM. However, the station does not open until 5:00 AM. Clearly we had a problem. Running to the nearby Tim Hortons, we found a security agent who called us a cab and told us we could probably return the key at the airport. Since we live in VT we needed to get to the airport. Enter Johnny, the cab driver who was a huge help. He drove us to the underground Hertz office. No drop box. (Other rentals have theirs!) Office opened at 5AM. Johnny drove us to the Delta departures gate, unloaded the luggage, where I waited for 1/2 hour for my husband to return the keys. The agent was not helpful, telling him to put the keys in the box. He was not aware there was no box to drop the keys in. He said he would return the keys to the station. In the meantime, I waited at the end of the endless line of passengers so we could check in. We made it by 3 minutes. It was nerve-wracking and not at all fun! Please tell the helpful agents at the train station, that it is not unlocked until 5:00AM, so if people have to catch early flights, they cannot return the keys there nor at the airport!! Other than that, Hertz was great! Sincerely, Kay EllisReviewed Jun 30 2016
