Pros: I spend around 100 nights a year in hotels all over UK and Ireland and this was my first time at this hotel . Owners/staff friendly, obliging , helpful . Location great for all amenities- station , town centre etc but set off road far enough to be quiet . Great parking , very nice bar , good comfortable room , everything spotless . In this area have historically paid £ 10 to £40 more per night in 3 and 4 star private and national chain hotels which were not anywhere as good as this
Cons: No complaints on any front

Pros: Beautiful wood burning fire place in reception/foyer area. Spectacular rooms beautifully decorated. Staff were all very friendly and gave excellent service.
Cons: Old windows in our room which could be a bit draughty but room was well heated and style of windows are in-keeping with character of building so not an issue.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful designed hotel, lots of love features
Cons: Checked into room which was above the kitchen, very loud extractor fan, asked staff at reception if this would go off, was told yes, would go off at 10pm. Needless to say it didn’t and I couldn’t sleep because of the noise. Told same staff at check out to be just ignored. Would definitely not stay again

Pros: The family room (suite) was stunning! Food was really good. Staff were very friendly and could not do more to help especially the lady on reception when we arrived - she is a credit to your hotel (sorry I didn’t get her name)
Cons: Selection of beers was limited. Bar service post 9pm was poor.

Pros: The location was good with a nice 15 minute walk into town where there are shops and resturants.
Cons: The hotel is in need of some restoration, windows etc.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: They were brilliant, gorgeous large rooms, comfy bed, brilliant staff!!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, the staff friendly and helpful without being intrusive, the room was really charming, clean and cosy.
Cons: Only thing really was that the bathroom was a bit basic- one tiny soap bar and a shampoo/body wash instead of handwash and a selection of toiletries which would have been better especially as it wasn't cheap. It was the only (minor) thing tho.
7,0 Good
Pros: the room was clean albeit old fashioned
Cons: Didn’t have breakfast as it was only cereal and yogurt, if I had realised when I booked I wouldn’t have stayed here
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Soft comfy beds that were long enough for me (6'2''), private entrance so I didn't wake people returning late. Modern bathroom was small but totally adequate for 1 or 2 people. Surprisingly good wifi given the thick walls. Ample off street parking. I definitely plan to return with my partner next time we're in the Galloway area.
Cons: Having to leave :)

9,2 Excellent
Pros: The calm, quiet and easily accessible location from the A76 and Dumfries. The morning breakfast was excellent and exceptional value for money. Not many locations offer complimentary breakfast when staying at a holiday home. This was a key bonus! The basic options were plentiful with a selection of cereals, fruit juice, yoghurt, pastries and toast available. The cook to order Scottish breakfast was a delight. Ample for anyone in need of a hearty start to the day! Our holiday cottage, Don Mohr, was spacious and well equipped with good facilities. Travelling with four adults and small baby; the bath and showers in two separate rooms , washing machine and fully fitted kitchen was ideal!
Cons: Despite the Carse having an abundance of period features and charm, the main hotel and holiday cottages are in need of minor upgrading in order to compete with 2020 standards.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Duty manager stayed up until close to midnight to get us booked in and to welcome us. The grounds and property are stunning.
Cons: Nothing.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the breakfast - well presented. Staff were incredibly friendly and lovely. Loved the rustic fireplaces and board games and the family feel of the place. Loved the beautiful grounds to walk and explore. All round we had a lovely time!
Cons: Perhaps it was due to the package deal we had bought but felt our bedroom was tucked away in the servants quarters of the property and wasn’t as well maintained. Also quite noisy in the early hours of the morning. Lots of banging and clattering. But the room itself was lovely and our happiness was not affected by this. We were very grateful for the night away
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovley cottage..up a lane from the main hotel.. Woke up to Lovley surroundings and peaceful, great nights sleep in beautiful comfy beds Breakfast nice in main hotel.. My mum ordered scrambled eggs but didn't enjoy it, my pouched eggs great.. Maybe butter toast next time
Cons: Breakfast
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were wonderful and having two dogs (including a new puppy) was no issue at all, including when we had dinner downstairs (they arranged for us to eat on the lovely lounges by the fire which was perfect).
7,5 Good
Pros: Well presented old “home” hidden away near the river. Sense of history in the lobby/ lounge and bar. Reception staff efficient and warm.
Cons: Bar person was unfriendly- almost gruff. Dinner was ordinary to say the least. Quality of food as served against menu description at dinner was poor. Brie and red currant parcels, missing both it seemed as fried parcel was flat and unappetising . Entree calamari described as breaded was battered.... We did not receive a follow up drink order and overall the Food and Beverage experience let this venue down.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We were very pleasantly surprised by the standard of accomodation & the hotel in general. We slept really well. The grounds were lovely to look at & walk around & the staff were attentive & kind. Breakfast was fab( despite me being coeliac). Would definitely recommend this hotel, it is particularly good value for money & an excellent 3 star.
Cons: Nothing really

Pros: Great food in the restaurant at both evening time and breakfast. Friendly staff and made us feel really welcome! would recommend.
Cons: It’s pet friendly which if you don’t like dogs (we we don’t) can put you off with dogs roaming around.

Cons: n/a
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Quite simply one of the best small hotels in the UK - fabulous people, rooms, views, location and exceptional attention to detail - and the dog would certainly agree!
Cons: Nothing could be disliked.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Diamond the whippet and `Kim the tax-fiddling collie` had a lovely time here and enjoyed their hand made doggie biscuits. Meanwhile the humans had a wonderful dinner and a great breakfast. The main waiter/barman was very knowledgeable and friendly. Lovely to see Rory the retriever keeping an eye on the hotel. Helped prove that dogs are welcome.
Cons: The Scottish weather!
2,5 Mediocre
Cons: Unable to cancel one month in advance on a Sunday night. Rip off.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property has a warm and relaxed atmosphere; comfortable with excellent food and a well stocked and very reasonably priced bar. Beautiful setting in glorious countryside. Our only regret is that we didn’t have dog with us as they are made so welcome though sensibly kept to a different dining room to the unfortunate ‘doggy less’ souls
Cons: Nothing! It was great!
6,3 Good
Pros: Very friendly manager who seemed to do everything . Comfortable and well equipped bedroom
Cons: Quite cold . Not enough staff to cope with dinner service . Food excellent .

Pros: A lovely 'old fashioned' hotel in a beautiful building. Excellent service, very comfortable bed, lovely grounds. Breakfast each day was freshly cooked and delicious. We attended the Hogmanay Party which wad good fun - the food was excellent, with a good band after the meal and a piper to welcome the new year. We also ate a bar meal another evening which was very good.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The building and grounds for walking the dog. Entrance and public areas very clean, rooms again very nice and clean. Room presented very well and bathroom excellent. Great the dog could accompany me in bedroom.
Cons: No dog bin in grounds unless i missed it i just used cigarette bin at door. Shower did not seem to have much pressure used bath tap instead. Would have been nice to have the dog with me in bar when i had evening meal.

Pros: The owners and their staff are amazing. Very friendly...as guests we were made to feel at home. The service is personal. The bar is cosy and it is easy to talk to locals who are also friendly. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. We love this hotel.
Cons: We would have liked a lounge where we could have socialised away from the bar. We wondered if the function room could be used by guests when there was nothing happening there?

Pros: The breakfast that was included in price was exceptionally good. It was a self service buffet style, there was a lot of choice and very well presented in a lovely setting.
Cons: Could not really fault it, other than perhaps the alcoholic drinks at bar in evening were slightly on the expensive side

Pros: Classical building a great sense of history. Beautiful location.
5,0 Okay
Pros: location good, quiet spot so quality sleep
Cons: Had booked twin room, on arrival it was a double. Corridor had suffered from water damage - paper was peeling and walls were stained. Musty odor in lift. Not easy locating main entrance from car park.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was really fantastic Many thanks
Cons: Bathroom and walls in room a little shabby
6,0 Good
Pros: its a clean room,
Cons: we had a little one / 7 months old travelled with us and my husband just recently had a hip replacement surgery. they could have been more thoughtful to allocate a room with better access, instead one without lift and required to walk around the whole building due to recent renovation. some staffs are great; some just couldn't bother. the choice of food on the menu is also very limited but the staff was great. I would not in any rush returning to this establishment
6,0 Good
Pros: Upgraded from standard room to executive one. Lovely big comfy bed. Nice view from window
Cons: On arrival the room was cold and an oil filled heater was put in place. Unable to use bathroom till morning because of this.

Pros: Comfortable bed . Shower was good apart from light going out . Lovely breakfast
Cons: When in shower light kept going off. Very noisy at night when people coming in was like a stampede. Television too high up Radiator in bathroom was needing cleaned it was rusty
7,0 Good
Pros: Good breakfast from the buffet.
Cons: Not a lot! It was a budget room, basic, clean, good food pleasant staff
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was the perfect location, a short walk to town and easily accessible. Very laid back, safe and with decent parking. The breakfast was next door and it had lots of choice. The staff couldn't do enough to help and the bedroom was toasty warm with a comfy bed, en suite and a table full of tea/coffee/kettle/hot choc/buscuits etc. The building is charming and for the pricing point, we were more than impressed. We would stay again and we would recommend.
Cons: Some people could dislike parts of the decor but we liked it. It's a period property so it's not ultra modern but it's a cosy and charming place to stay. It's spot on for the price though and no expense was spared on the important elements (bed, linen, drinks table, lighting and very good heating). If I was to be ultra picky, I'd suggest adding some modern elements in the en suite but it was clean, functional and again, really good for the price point.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Girls were lovely who worked there. Breakfast was delicious! Plenty to eat. I was offered porridge too. Clean and comfortable. Will go back.
Cons: Sachet of shower gel! I spent so long trying to open it I gave up! Bedside lamp was broken and signal went on TV in the morning but I'd still go back.

Enjoy your stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Always a warm welcome, comfortable rooms, lovely food
Cons: n/a
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely. The building is an architectural gem and unbelievable virtually unspoiled. Handily for climate-friendly travellers it is, as the name suggests, right by the railway station, and 10 minutes walk from the attractive town centre and the stupendous River Nith. Also, there are trains to Glasgow via beautifiul Nithsdale and there's a late train back if Dumfries is a little quiet for you.
Cons: This makes me sound picky, but the extractor fan in the bathroom was extremely noisy. Also, I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to temperature and the room was a little cool - cooler than the corridor! The directory said let them know if you wanted the temperature altering but it was marginal so I didn't bother. I'd rather be able simply to control it myself.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: It would be great if an alternative breakfast fee could be offered - £10 seems quite high on top of the room price. Or, that breakfast is offered as part of the room charge.
Cons: It was a little bit dusty in our room - other than that, it was very clean.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable room in a beautiful building. The decor in the lift and corridor is a little dated, but the rooms are modern and lovely. Great location, quiet hotel with all he amenities needed. We had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious and the service was excellent.
Cons: Nothing
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Convenient, clean and very friendly and helpful staff. Bedroom was comfortable with good WiFi and good tv reception. Piping hot water in the shower.
Cons: While this has been a lovely building - I was last here about 40 years ago - it is now looking tired and would benefit from a makeover. Very limited menu - but understandable because not that many guests, although the layout in public rooms suggested they could accommodate large numbers!
10,0 Excellent

Pros: Not a lot
Cons: The twin room consisted on two single beds, in every other hotel I've been in a twin consists of a double and a single, I had to pay £15 to get a double bed, almost every drink at the bar was out of stock, the owner didn't seem very interested, in the morning there was nowhere to return my key too as I had an early start
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great
Cons: Cleaness
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and very helpful, they went out of there way to help us. I felt like they genuinely cared about their guests.
7,0 Good
Pros: We were upgraded to another room because the sofa bed was not opened! That was a big plus! Owner was very nice and welcoming!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming staff, great food and a clean room.
Cons: Room was a bit small but it was a twin room. Shower wasnt the most powerful but done the job nonetheless.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. Family suite great for 5. Would definetly book again. Great value for money . Nice bar at night, pool table& dart board .
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: Absolutely nothing, disgusting staff most horrible experience.
Cons: The staff were extremely rude, would not give us our room and took them ages to take us to our room. Insulted my looks and my race by calling it “fake tan”. The carpets were dirty and the shower was disgusting. They then told me and my friend to pack up immediately because apparently their was “nobody” to supervise the hotel, then never gave us the full refund even though it was their fault! We had no where to go in that moment. They charged us £15 because we took a shower. Absolutely disgusting.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Boutique style hotel, busy bar in the evening, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed, with nice thick duvet. Good selection of TV Channels. Very nice cooked breakfast, served by friendly staff in nice breakfast room. Good location just across the street from large Aldi supermarket, handy if you forget any supplies. There is on-street parking just outside the hotel, and the hotel has its own car park behind the building (and a couple of spaces in front).
Cons: I found the room a little chilly at night as the central heating radiator went off. It was hard to spot the hotel at first; although there is a sign on the gable of the building, it is above the level of the downlight on the wall, and hard to see at night. A little confusing that the hotel sign on a tall standard at the front, more easily visible, bears a different name!
4,4 Okay
Pros: Staff found us a room even though they had not received the booking from you.
Cons: You did not send the booking on to the hotel. Why was this?

Pros: Beautiful wood burning fire place in reception/foyer area. Spectacular rooms beautifully decorated. Staff were all very friendly and gave excellent service.

Pros: Beautiful designed hotel, lots of love features
Cons: Checked into room which was above the kitchen, very loud extractor fan, asked staff at reception if this would go off, was told yes, would go off at 10pm. We also ate a bar meal another evening which was very good.
