Pros:Drop off was easy after hours.Cons:Don’t plan on paying with Debit card. You need six more items to qualify to rent. I had an additional requirement to have the manager to approve my van rental. Plus I had to put a $500 Deposit on top of the rental fee. Just to rent from this franchisee location. I was livid. I wasn’t allowed to get the best insurance coverage either.. I was completely livid and not happy.Reviewed Jul 25 2020

Worst counter rep EVERCons:Dishonest and rude. Tried to sneak in $200 in extra charges. got confrontational when I made him remove it! Assured me that the prepaid fuel would be removed when I returned it full, but I still got charged $39 for fuel! Argued with me that roadside assistance was required-at $12 a day- and that he has been with Dollar for 10 years and would know-- and that our conversation was being recorded- WHAT BS!!!! He tried to force a $340 rental to $520 !!!!! Wish I had his name, his employee # on my contract was 12008Reviewed Jun 7 2016

Pros:Staff was overwhelmed for pick-up. Drop-off was before business hours, so it was merely dropping a key in the lick box.Cons:Was told there were only mid-size SUVs available, but I ended up with a Chevy Spark.Reviewed Jul 14 2020

Overcharged exorbitantlyPros:In all other ways, the experience was fine, acceptable if not really positive.Cons:I was gouged for the price of the car, partly because of waiting till the last minute to book a car. But then the price was jacked up $80 more than the final charge listed online, and from the paperwork I can see they tacked on a "service" that I explicitly rejected because I already had the service through AAA. I asked multiple times if I would get an extra charge and was told this service is "included" and that I would not be charged. I feel totally ripped off and will never use Dollar rentals again.Reviewed Jul 26 2016

Tricked me into the old insurance scamPros:generically OK, not much to dislike.Cons:Based on the information I got from the attendant, I got signed up for their cheapest, most basic rate. *WRONG* When I repeatedly asked for the rate Kayak quoted, he kept pointing to basic. So I took that. Next thing I knew, they billed me for about $600! I caught the credit card charge, and asked about it. Since I had complied with what the non-English-speaking person behind the counter had allowed, I paid for insurance, not realizing that what I wanted wasn't publicly offered, and they would violate a reservation to do it.Reviewed Jan 2 2016

Pros:They fulfilled the shuttle ride to the airport.Cons:Our car smelled horrific. We could barely stand to be in it.Reviewed Mar 28 2021

Pros:Dropping the car off the person checking the car in was very polite.Cons:When checking the car out the guy at the desk was extremely rude. He also said that the insurance you purchase through Kayak does not cover the car. I had to call and add insurance through my personal company before I could leave. I would also recommend putting winter tires on the vehicle when it’s being rented in Alaska during the winter.Reviewed Feb 10 2021

Pros:The car rental out of Anchorage went pretty smoothly, and the staff at the in-town office were competent.Cons:We had some confusion over the location of our rental car pickup -- thought it was at the Anchorage airport, but it was in town. The local Dollar office was not very helpful with that -- didn't provide a shuttle from the airport to their in-town location, and said we would have to pay an extra 35% in tax to pick up the car from the airport. We ended up having to take a cab from the airport to pick up the car. The car rental prices in Anchorage are pretty ridiculous, though that was the case for all of the car rental agencies there.Reviewed Jul 18 2016

Easy access via a taxi from the airport, quick serPros:When I made the reservation the lowest cost car available was an SUV (and it was much cheaper than any compact car at the airport itself). When we arrived (after a quick, easy, and cheap taxi ride--about $12 with tip) we had a choice of an Outback, a Forester, or, for a discount, a Crosstrek (sp?), which is a medium sized sedan (about the size of a Civic, but with a covered hatchback). The discount from the change in vehicle classification almost paid for our second-driver fee, which worked out nicely for us. Much better service than one generally receives at an airport location, and I am pretty sure we were on our way faster than when we have rented at the airport.Cons:I am hoping for the best, but with a car that had less than 3k miles at pickup, and Alaskan roads (all paved, but lots of gravel driveways) the car got dirty, and the number of scratches in the paint when we picked it up made it clear that the paint on the Crosstrek is much too fragile. Not the rental car company's fault, of course, but I hope that we are not charged (I would dispute it, having looked over the car before we turned it over, but there would be a hassle).Reviewed Jul 8 2016
