It's a great idea - driving in the mountains is beautiful but might be a bit risky depending on the weather. A lot of the car rentals that are "in the airport" are actually 5-15 mins away, but they have shuttles that take you there. Just a bit inconvenient. Also, avoid FOX

It's like any other major city, with one way roads and a few odd intersections. When driving into the mountains, if you're not used to it, remember that it's way harder to speed up going up mountainsides, so be sure to leave extra room when passing slower vehicles. Also, some smaller highways are a mere step above gravel roads, so opening a can of Coke 0 is a treacherous prospect after driving one of the bumpier roads for an hour.

I thought I would need the toll tag. it turns out that besides the tollway right by the airport, it really wasn't needed much at all. Even with I 25 busy during all daylight hours, there really weren't any alternate faster routes using tolls. I also opted for the full tank of gas just to save myself time and hassle. Glad they have that option. We drove all around the area and tried to leave the car as close to empty as possible.

Its attractions aren’t limited to the city itself, so it’s a great idea to hire a car so that you can have the freedom to do exactly that. Significant attractions in Denver itself include the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in City Park and the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Was not given a full size vehicle despite booking full size. Vehicle had a warning light on after picking up and I was told my only option was to spend 6 hours driving back through Denver traffic to return for a new rental car. New rental car was even smaller than the original car I was provided with. I was also charged a fee for fuel at $8.99 per gallon even though I returned the car full!

Thos company is a bait and switch company. Very displeased. I rented a mid sized suv and paid in full when reserved. When I showed up they said I only paid for a compact suv. No, it was very clear what I rented. I had to pay more than double again to get what I wanted when I picked it up. I paid over 300 dollars when I reserved my car, when I picked it up it was almost another 500 dollars extra. I will never rent from this company again. I will never recommend this company. I will talk bad about this company to anyone looking torrent from fox rentals. Do not use them for anything. You've Been warned.

First, they said that the reservation I made had been cancelled due that I needed to pick up the car at noon. Even do I showed them the reservation where it showed clearly that I had to pick it up at 630pm. Second, because of what I explained earlier the person at the counter gave me a much higher rate than the one I reserved online. When I complained they told me they had no more cars at the rate I had reserved initially. It seems this company is not what you expect and for some reason, they want to charge a different rate than what the client gets online. The person at the counter next to me had the same issue and was upset. Therefore, I would NOT recommend renting from this company.

The car was malfunctioning and we brought it to Alamo rental at the airport but they didn’t help at all. We were forced to park the car and leave it at our families. The only person that helped was the guy who took the car back and they called to get us a discount on the rental which we haven’t received.

Location was short on vehicles. Employees were working hard to keep wait to a minimum, even giving free upgrades if category reserved wasn't available. Shuttle bus driver was exceptional also - loading all bags so customers could get to the counter quickly and safely. SUV was in great shape with fewer miles than I've seen in rental cars since the pandemic. Excellent overall experience!

Provided a vehicle that was not clean and did not have working lights. After driving at night we realized that lights on one side of the vehicle were not working. We later learned it’s because they were completely disconnected. Terrifying to discover when you’re driving down a mountain at night through switch backs and have no proper lighting and no knowledge of how to fix it.

Address was incorrect for pick location. The address given from kayak email was wrong. It sent me to a Toyota car dealership. Enterprise was not anywhere near this address. But I barely made pick up time before closing after making calls and tracking down correct location.

Becuase we used Kayak ( a third party) we essentially got screwed over. Our pick up site was not where we originally planned and by the time we arrived at the correct location they had given our rental car to someone else. They had no other cars to rent to us. We were charged for a car we never received. Enterprise was unable to provide a refund due to using Kayak and we can not get ahold of someone with Kayak to discuss our situation. Extremely frustrating.

They called and td me that there were no cars available to rent after I made the reservation, and was on my way to pick up the car. They said that there was a glitch in their system that allowed them to make a reservation when they were sold out of cars. Just said "Good Luck finding a can in Denver". No offer to help in any way. Bad service.

Horrible experience. It took almost 2 hours at the counter to pick up a car and then also I received a transit van instead of the SUV I had booked (agent said even this won’t be available of if I don’t decide quickly!.

Avis had a huge line of customers and only three individual serving them. We waited between an hour and a half and two hours and then decided to leave and take a Lyft when we realized we probably at least had another hour left to wait. This is Unacceptable.

I tried getting a ride from the airport and as I was walking up to the bus the driver closed the doors I was knocking on the door and they drove away. When I got to Avis they informed me that they couldn’t rent to me because my current license had a hole in it. Even though I showed proof that it was still a valid license on the DMV’s website. And I got charged for insurance on a car I never got.

The cars at the location I picked up from were very dirty. I refused the first car that smelled like marijuana and had not been vacuumed and had trash in the car. The 2nd car I was given was also dirty and had not been vacuumed, and was the only other car available.

The worst rental car experience I have ever had. I have rented with many of your competitors at Denver International and have never had an experience this bad. I waited one hour and 17 minutes in line to check in and get my vehicle. The longest I have ever waited with a competitor is 15 minutes. Many others who came in after I did would have had even longer wait times, as the line grew to be out the doors into the outside areas. The staff made no apologies or offerings due to the long wait times and acted as if it were normal. And once I got our vehicle the low coolant light was on and we noticed many significant imperfections on the outside, for example missing the G and E in RANGE ROVER at the front. Based on this experience, it will be my first and last with Budget.

The line to the counter was very long. I tried to pre-check in multiple times as suggested but it never worked. Then talked to the guy who of course told me they didn’t have my car and I’d be better off with a Jeep anyway. Way more expensive but alright. I then realize I’ve been charged with wifi which I never asked for. The car itself has a removable roof and studded wheels which makes it very uncomfortable for long distance. It also had a slow leak in a rear tire, meaning I had to put air in every day. THEN I realize the oil life is at 2%. I call customer service to ask what I should do. They say to go to any Budget location and they will exchange the car for free. So I go to the closest Budget location I find. It can’t do an exchange because it’s a local location, I need to go to the airport. I go to the Budget location at the airport. They tell me they also can’t do an exchange. I start to question what the person from customer service told me. But they then tell me to go to Avis which has corporate cars and will be able to do it. Of course by then my situation has gotten pretty weird and the poor girl at Avis has no clue how to deal with it. So after waiting for another guy to show up, I can finally get in another car and be on my way. Overall pretty disappointed.

Nothing but good things to say about my car rental experience with Payless. Everyone there was very nice, friendly, and helpful. When our original car had accidentally been double booked, they had a new upgraded car ready right away. And the shuttles to and from the airport were super convenient.

Pros:

The car was great. It was clean and a comfortable ride. No issues. Return was easy too

Cons:

They use the Avis shuttle but do not tell you that. I wanted 45 minutes for the shuttle until driver told me that they were also picking up Payless customers. Picking up the car was awful. They tried to charge me for an upgrade after saying they didn't have any cars in the class I reserved. Then the car they assigned me to was already occupied by another customer that was also assigned the same car. It took a long time to actually get the car I reserved. I felt like I was being scammed. A different employee helped me after I was assigned an occupied car. He was great. He gave me the car I had reserved and did it quickly. No problems after that. Also, I could not reach customer service by phone to ask about shuttle. Calls would not go through or were not answered

Pros:

Pickup was easy and quick, that's where the positives ended.

Cons:

The car was obviously not cleaned, there were crumbs in the steering wheel and change in the center console, the windshield was impossible to see though at night because it was so dirty (like it had been sprayed to be cleaned and never wiped off), the rearview mirror was broken and jiggled while the car was in motion. When it came time for drop-off, the address on the contract printout was incorrect so the GPS would have taken us the wrong way had we not realized it was obviously the wrong way.

Absolutley terrible. Worst car rental experience I have ever had. Did not get the car rental that was reserved and purchased. Waited for over an hour to get a different car than the one was reserved and it was also not fueled up. The pickup location was a total mess and very unorganized, probably over 30 people waiting in a tiny lobby. Will never be going through hertz ever again. Absolutley terrbible experience!!!

System went down so check in process didn't work. Car wasn't ready even though i was told it would be. Once I did get a car, it smelled like cigarette smoke so I asked for a new one. Customer service was helpful though so they did resolve the issues once i brought them up.

We drove 45 minutes across the city to the locations we were told to drop off the car at. We were also given a dropoff time that was the same as the closing time (which was noon and we were not notified that they closed at noon.) We arrived on time but could not find anywhere to park in the full lot. By the time we got in the door within 5 minutes of our dropoff time, the hertz desk was empty and there was no one to talk to. There was a key drop box by it said charges would accrue until the next employee arrived. It was the start of the long weekend. It also didn’t feel like the safest area and we were nervous that if something damaged the car over the weekend we’d be liable. We waited another 45 minutes on the phone to get through to customer service. I will say they did grant us a two hour extension and allowed us to drop it off at the airport (another 40 minutes away plus having to catch a shuttle) for only an extra $10 airport fee, but it was incredibly inconvenient. Our rental agreement said we were allowed a 59 minute grace period and nothing about the location closing. Everything else was fine about this rental but that kind of ate up a whole afternoon of our vacation.

Car wasn't really clean inside nor out, didn't have car we'd reserved. Wipers on car didn't work--this was a safety issue. Paid more for this car to get a Ford transit or similar, instead got a minivan. If we'd wanted a minivan we would have reserved one.
