I was very disappointed on this stay because the dining area floors were was grimy and the wine cellar was dusty. I brought this to the attention of both the waitress and the manager on duty who reassured me that it would be cleaned . To my surprise the following morning I was greeting with the same dusty wine cellar and crumbs under the serving counters. Absolute shocking apathy from senior staff members devalues the Taj experience.

I expressed my disappointment with the hotel for the unprofessional room service with no cups for having tea, empty mini bar and long waits for any request. Cons: On arrival I was greeted by a clueless front desk person who pulled up my wrong booking, gave me a room that was not in accordance with my booking requests . Although he tried to correct his mistakes , he just was confused and gave us wrong information all the time . In my opinion he was untrained for the reception area. We stayed for 3 nights and we were never given the suites we booked and paid for ,I wanted a mountain facing room. To add to my misery, the housekeeping staff didn't put out the required towels , bathmats etc. somedays they didn't replenish the shower. then they put out conditioner in place of lotion. I was really shocked and surprised .

Cons: The cables attaching the patio shades to the building in front of room 206 made a constant mind rattling noise during the entire second night of my stay completely eroding any enjoyment of the space. After 2 hours of trying to ignore it I called the night duty manager who sent someone to listen to the noise first before agreeing to move me to another room. The staff were very friendly and helpful but I pity anyone who stays in room 206 or possibly 205 and 207 during a windy night in Cape Town. If you can, avoid staying on the street side of the hotel - rooms 201 to 208.

Cons: Didn’t realise long street gets dicey at night. Even locals don’t really go there. It’s too close to long street. Had to change room twice. The furniture is extremely old and worn. Paid R4000 a night when I booked it several months ago, prices dropped to nearly 1/3 of that at the time that I was staying but the hotel charged the initial rate anyway. Felt like a rip off.

Location is good, short Uber to most places. Tour desk at Reception organised a driver to take us to Stellenbosch and the penguin colony. Wonderful trip!! If booking a driver / tour guide for the day ask for Jimmy, such a lovely man and so knowledgeable. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

However this hotel was very safe, & clean and comfortable as expected from a 5 star. The staff was friendly and very helpful in helping us figure out plans for the city and travel out as well. Rooms are spacious. The rooms also have a kitchen area like apartments which was very cool. We booked it for its location as its central and nearby to a lot of recommended areas/restaurants/waterfront. However at night anyway we had to use uber as walking was pretty much not an option even if things are nearby. But still shorter drives was better than long ones!

The breakfast selection was also great and the elevator was a nice perk (it’s the oldest functional lift in Cape Town). The bed was also SO COMFORTABLE! We had 4 amazing sleeps during our stay. Complimentary sparkling wine for our honeymoon was also a great touch.

Pros: From when we first arrived to the end of our 4 night stay, the staff were super friendly and helpful. the room was immaculately cleaned every day and they even offer a turn down service. our stay included breakfast in the rate and we had breakfast at the restaurant Thirty Ate every morning which was delicious and filling! there is no parking on site however a short walk cross the road to the car park block is easy and the hotel staff escort you there too. the hotel is central to the city which means it does get very noisey at night, so not great for families with young children but it did not bother myself or my husband. the roof top bar is cute and they also have movie nights on some days. I really can't think of anything that i didn't like whilst we stayed here.

They had pre-booked some recommended restaurants for us which we could then accept, decline or change but their recommendations were great places and 2 of them especially we would never have got a table as our stay went over a weekend. They also gave us a taxi recommendation for coming back at night and the service from Unicabs was also first class as we never had to wait more than 5 mins (cost approx 50 Rand). KP also brilliantly placed for Table Mountain. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Cons: I have just 2 minor criticisms..one is there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Even though the front desk said we could have tea sent up to the room, personally I still prefer to be able to make one whenever I wish. Secondly, the air conditioning unit could not be taken colder than 19 deg and we had been used to having rooms cooler at 17 on our 3 weeks in SA so found the room a bit warm at times.

Fantastic stay in a great location only minutes away from the infamous Long Street where there are loads of bars and restaurants. Approx 20 min walk from the trendy V & A Waterfront.

Cons: The people from above throwing apple cores, banana skins, cigarette butts and coffee on to our balcony. We reported it to reception who said they would investigate. When we returned from our day out we were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine and an apology note.

Cons: The WIFI connection is very slow. This seems to be an issue in South Africa at times, but it was incredibly bad at times. It would take several minutes just to load e-mail. Also, there was no fitness center there. We were given cards to go to a local gym around the corner, we did that one day and then one of the security staff told me they had made a mistake and we weren't allowed. I asked other members at the front desk later, they had no idea of this policy change. In all, I was disappointed there was no fitness center there, felt a little misleading.

Cons: Some obvious missing features -- no iron in the rooms, no soap or moisturiser, and yet premium international prices for a Cape Town location. The internet required daily renewed login which was a little annoying. Twin-share room was rather small, only ~25 cm between the beds. Only one chair in the room. Only total two spare power points. Our water bottle kept disappearing and re-appearing depending on the day.

Cons: We were in room 505. The toilet had a bad odour. Additionally, the A/C wasn't working on the first day but we didnt worry much because it was cold outside. They fixed the A/C on the second day but it again stopped working on the last night of our stay.

Cons: The housekeeping staff didn't even make our beds properly - used the same bedding for the entire three nights. Soap wrappers and empty shampoo bottles were left there for the entire duration of our stay and we even had to call the reception for soap the morning after our arrival.

Pros: Staff were excellent. Specially Rosswell on reception and Mario our shuttle driver who went the extra mile to help make our stay go smoothly. Breakfast was lovely.
