Insurance is tricky, paid double!Pros:The car was great. Easy on petrol and easy to drive around snow rain ice and whatever the january Iceland weather had to offer, despite being a little 1.3L.Cons:Paid double inaurance, first £50 insurance advertised on the car hire comfirmation email for AXA insurance and then been told at the desk it was not good enough, so had to pay their own insurance company another £50. I guess KAYAK to be blamed as well here. Never pay insurance in advance I guess. When picking up they should walk you at least to the door of the aiport and point the way to find the car at the huge parking lot instead of saying only it is in section A B C D.Reviewed Jan 21 2019

Pros:I have withdrawn unknown deposit which is much more than the agreed value. Please clarify the problem.Reviewed Mar 11 2019

A few issuesPros:Car was clean and the engine was good.Cons:The wipers were absolutely appalling. They need to be changed. Not good enough. Also, the usb plug in stopped working after a day which meant we couldn't charge our phones - not ideal when you're relying on them for maps.Reviewed Feb 6 2017

Pros:Everything was there and easy.Cons:KAYAK quoted me 141 dollars, my credit card bill shows charges from budget at $234. I used it the exact amount I stated. I filled up the tank minutes before returning it and the agent said everything was in order. That is a significant difference from what you promised. Why would I use KAYAK to get screwed like this when I can just get screwed from budget without you? I will get this fixed, but if you or budget would like future business from me you should figure this out and remedy it before I have to. Thank you, Charles TomkoReviewed Mar 31 2017

Rip off.Pros:The pick-up and drop-off process was simple. But that was about it.Cons:The value, and price was such a rip-off. First of all we had an older manual Ford Fiesta. She barely had power windows. We had her for 5 days and it was over $800.00 USD. they advertised an economy car, Volkswagen Golf or similar for $34.00 a day and what we got was a basic model Ford Fiesta which worked out to be $160+ per day. Because it was such a basic model and we were in a foreign country we needed navigation so we had to purchase for $11.00 a day (plus 24% tax) a little mobile wifi. That was spotty at best, but how can you know that standing at the counter. Plus $60.00 a DAY in insurance. I only purchased the insurance because being in Iceland I have no idea how my insurance would transfer etc etc. Plus numerous other "miscellaneous" charges. I was completely blown away. If it had been a nicer car, or an SUV I could've accepted it. But this was an old, basic model for way too much money! Never ever againReviewed Oct 5 2018

OscarPros:Car was pretty new and did its purpose fine!Cons:HIDDEN. FEES. My total renting from budget was $167, when i left the front desk the final price was $591! It is unacceptable! We added a GPS, whiche they charged over $60 a day for, this is one ove these crappy 2003 GPS, impossible to work with. And on top of that hidden fees, I had the feeling of being of dishonesty. When i got the car keys i had to walk 5 min to pick up the car and was told to make a full on inspection of the car that they estimated would take 15-20 min, the last thing you wanna do after you've been standing in line for 85 minutes, and had your price more than tripple. Returning the car, Budgets representative took 25 minutes going throught the car (while im standing next to him) and finds things on it that is just inpossible would have been our fault but just general wear and tear, their insurance claime came down to $1756, so DON'T FORGET INSURANCE, they will do anything to milk out an extra dollar. All in all, BEWARE!Reviewed May 3 2017

Low-grade car, low-grade service.Pros:Reasonable pricing, by Iceland standards.Cons:Failure to provide any orientation on the car. Had to go back into the terminal to get explanation of several basic functions given that the owner's manual is in Icelandic. Dark, poorly lit pickup lot with snow-covered cars made it impossible to inspect car at pickup. Car itself needed minor maintenance and was a lower-class vehicle than I expected; advertised class was Toyota RAV4, booking confirmation said a Suzuki Grand Vitara, actual vehicle was a Dacia Duster. Felt very bait-and-switch. Drop-off involved a brusque clerk. Overall not a pleasant experience and I will look elsewhere than budget next time.Reviewed Dec 23 2017

Pros:Airport (KEF) pickup was relatively easy after waiting out a long line, as was dropoff, but see my negative comments.Cons:Car was not quite the 'equal' of a Suzuki Grand Vitara, having compared them side-by-side, and could have been a bit cleaner. That said, it was fine and did the job. Empty tank option wise in Iceland, Collision Damage Waiver through a third party not explained well, either in the online offering or at the service window but was not needed, thankfully. Budget Personnel at KEF were great, but their check-in office was swamped. The woman who checked me in indicated it was like this most of the time, so streamlining is warranted and a larger desk with more check-in personnel clearly warranted. Drop off guy was wonderful. Overall, features of the car relatively easy to understand, but an 'Quick-start' page in English would have been useful.Reviewed Jul 8 2017

Old terrible car. Not what I reservedPros:People were niceCons:I rented a Jeep Wrangler. I paid more for that. I realize it always says “or equivalent” but very few vehicles are equivalent to a Jeep. They are a class of their own. So I figure if not a Jeep i’d Get some other sort of all terrain vehicle as it was necessary for the areas of Iceland we wanted to see. The Jimny I was given instead was laughable. It had no working radio which is awful for long road trips. Furthermore it seriously limited the places we could go and see because it simply wasn’t capable of negotiating through the snow. I feel as though this rental had a serious negative impact on my overall trip.Reviewed May 15 2018

Deceptive pricing quotePros:Staff was friendly and very apologetic when we arrived and the computers were down.Cons:I was quoted $256 for a car rental in Iceland... and somehow walked away paying $706. After taxes and insurance was added on the price of my car rental more than doubled. I indicated that I wanted insurance when I made the reservation, but you never included in the quote. Neither was tax. I've rented cars many times before with other companies and have always known what I was paying in advance... you guys hide the cost to make your prices look more desirable. Additionally the computers were down when we went to pick up our car so this further added to the confusion of what we were paying for. We were also given the keys to a car that was buried under a foot of snow that we had to clear off ourselves in the pitch dark. Based off this experience I won't be renting from Budget again.Reviewed Mar 6 2017

Very Long Time to Pickup/DropoffPros:Car ran great and had excellent winter tires.Cons:The pickup process took a long time as we reviewed every item of damage on a car with nearly a dozen dings and scrapes. The parking lot was dark when we picked up the car so confirming damage was impossible. The windshield seemed to be scoured with sandpaper and was quite difficult to see out of when it was raining and it rained on our entire trip, this was impossible to see when we picked up the car. For the drop off we stopped at the location and waited nearly 20 minutes before going to ask someone to help us. They told us to go wait at the end of a lineup to talk to the desk before they could help drop off the car. After waiting a guy came out and looked at the car then said "wait while I go park the car and come back and we will fill out the paperwork." After waiting another 20 minutes for him to park the car at the back of a large lot and type at his computer for a long time he said that I could go. The shuttle to the airport was a small van did not have room for a stroller and did not have a car seat so we had to walk to the airport after waiting nearly 40 minutes to drop off the car which was a stressful additional 7 minutes of walking with all of our luggage and baby through an industrial area. We came to the airport quite early so we could have lunch before flying out, Budget delayed us enough that we didn't get lunch and had to hurry through the airport.Reviewed Dec 13 2016
