Pros: good food very clean
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nothing was too much trouble, lovely location with amazing view. Breakfast was very good excellent quality and cooked exactly to your personal requirement. Selection of teas in room was far better than a lot of big chain Hotels I have stayed in, fruit teas, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and sparkling water, fresh milk and very nice biscuits.
Cons: Nothing!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, helpful. going the extra mile. The advance email with directions was especially helpful to get there in the appalling weather conditions
Cons: Small thing, the bed side light did not work but they provided a torch I noticed, which was creative thinking. :)

Pros: The hosts were great, nothing was too much trouble, the room was comfortable, location was lovely, breakfast was amazing
Cons: Can't really think of anything I didn't like
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were greeted by the lady owner who was lovely. We were shown to our room and handed some fresh milk for tea! We were expecting a small double but when we got there, we were pleasantly suprised at the space. All rooms are en suite- which is a must for us! Really clean room and bathroom. Everything you need to have a comfortable stay. There is a nice garden to use to walk the dog with ample places to walk out of the grounds. The owners even supply a doggy bin (I find this great with being a dog owner!) We went out that night for a meal and took our dog with us. We arrived back at the B&B around 22.45 and there was no issues, we let ourselves in and went into our room. The bed had a firm mattress, which is a little harder than we would probably choose ourselves, but we slept FABULOUS! The best we have done for a long time ... maybe we have the wrong mattress at home?! (Haha) we got up and showered and headed down for breakfast, lovely selection of cereals, fruit and yogurt. Fresh coffee and tea avaliable . We had full English with toast. It was lovely ! The ingredients used were fresh and the bacon and sausage of high quality! Absolutely loved our stay! We will definitely be returning! Both owners were lovely and genuine people, proper home from home. So glad I found it ! Lindsey & Matt x

Cons: Faultless. Could not be bettered.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice fruit juice, cereals , fresh fruit, and options on a full English breakfast, tea coffee and toast. The location was fairly central to the areas we wished to visit, access to the B&B was along a country lane about 2 miles off the main road which is not as daunting as it may sound. Owners very friendly and knowledgeable about the area with maps and brochures on everything from pub grub to national trust locations.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: As always a warm welcome , nice modern clean room , fantastic dinner ( how do they make those roast potatoes ? ) and breakfast. One of the best pubs for food I have ever know. Great location for walking and touring north devon. Great value.
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic, little touches like home made cakes in our room, good variety of drinks and incredible locally sourced food.
Cons: What’s not to like. We’ll be back
10,0 Excellent
Pros: On arrival the hosts (Nicky(or Nikki/Nicki) & Paul) were extremely welcoming and friendly. Location is very good if you need somewhere quiet & tranquil. Nice selection at the bar, and the food is exceptional, including the breakfast. Lots of thoughtful touches that others could learn from - bath sheets not little towels, fresh milk in a vacuum flask rather than fussy little milk cartons, walk in shower, ground coffee & a little percolator (in the room). Very clean & comfortable. I consider myself a fairly frequent business traveller and this is amongst the best value and most enjoyable places I have experienced. Unless I find something equal or better, within a 30 mile radius, I'd chose to stay here.
Cons: I wish I could think of something to moan or complain about - I can't!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were two couples on motorbikes touring Devon and Cornwall for a long weekend. Wished we had made this one our base. Such lovely staff. Excellent food. Excellent rooms, everything thought of. So clean. Had to give this 10/10! Dont usually bother writing reviews but just had to do this one. Great find. Certainly go back.

Pros: Really really lovely place to stay. Excellent rooms, food and service. Worth every penny! Shall definitely be going back there
9,2 Excellent
Pros: GOOD CHOICE OF STARTERS AND PLENTY OF COOKED ITEMS FOR BREAKFAST
Cons: CHOICE OF EVENING MEALS.I STAYED 5 NIGHTS SO I HAD SOME ITEMS TWICE.
Kentisbury Grange - Barnstaple - Building

9,5 Excellent (388 reviews)

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Kentisbury Grange in Barnstaple, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Exmoor National Park and Arlington Court. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and secluded. Didn’t hear other guests at all. Grounds were extremely beautiful and well kept. Lodges were nice to stay in with a small outdoor space. Parking was convenient. Breakfast was delicious. Shower was good and powerful. Toiletries provided smelt pleasant. Location was convenient, halfway between Barnstaple and Lynton. Decor of room and restaurant was smart. We would stay again and probably book a self catering lodge.
Cons: Cleaning could have been sharper (overall it was clean but there were some details that had been missed, and the grouting/sealant was dingy/mouldy looking in places). This issue felt very out of place given the standards and setting of the hotel. Pillows were not comfortable if you are a side sleeper. No plug socket by bed. Very early check out time - 10am (not great for a relaxing Sunday). Tricky to get temperature just correct (because it didn’t have any sort of timer) so it became too hot in the night. Room was expensive vs value for money (when compared to other hotels we have stayed in).
6,3 Good
Pros: The restaurant and staff were excellent
Cons: The manager suggested to another guest that My husband was “going to do a runner “ when all he was doing was checking the bill. This was so rude it spoilt the whole experience and of course was ridiculous anyway as we had booked through you many happy times and you have all our details.
5,4 Okay
Pros: The exterior of the building looks lovely with a wonderful sense of old world charm. Grounds were very well maintained. The bathroom was a good size with heated floor.
Cons: The ground floor room was dark; the furniture badly stained and looked in need of refurbishment; the room was cold and could not turn on any heating; had to request a room heater; the lounge was very cold and dark and the staff member did not know how to turn on the main lights; could not make warmer as the main central heating was off. Main restaurant was expensive; food was delicious and the staff most pleasant. Breakfast was lovely.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was wonderful, the location,, the room and the food was divine !! Try the banana souffle!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We had the six course taster menu, such an indulgence. Wonderful. Highly recommend giving it a try.
Cons: This was our second visit to this lovely hotel and restaurant. This time we noticed that there seemed to be a problem with under staffing in the restaurant. The waiters that were there were working very well and very hard. Sadly we had to return our breakfast scrambled egg as it was slightly burnt.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful location. Excellent restaurant.
Cons: No lift.

Pros: Wonderful place, beautiful location, very friendly welcoming hosts.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly very quiet hotel
Cons: Needed a shower in the room otherwise would’ve been five out of five
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We were met with big smiles and tea and cake on the sunny terrace. The breakfast was lovely - lots to choose from. They don't do evening meals but reservations were arranged at the Hunter's Inn and the owner picked us up after dinner as it's a steep walk back and we were tired from a long hike that day.
Cons: Can't think of anything.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We received a super friendly welcome and an offer of tea and chocolate cake, which was very welcome after a long walk along the coast path. Dinner was down the hill at the Hunters Inn and we were offered a lift at the end of our meal to save our legs. Pat and Mark made our stay very pleasant indeed, nothing was too much trouble and we felt very welcome.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Mark and Pat are the most gracious of hosts and were completely lovely and welcoming. The room was highly clean and the views across the valley were spectacular. We were all very tied after a day trekking across Saunton Sands and we was welcomed with lovely chocolate cake and tea which were duly dispatched with aplomb by my wife and child. Thanks for your hospitality and for sure we will be back to visit Heddon valley, with the in-laws next time:)
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful owners. Very accommodating with our dogs
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Heddons Mouth Hotel is set in an idillyic location very close to Heddons Mouth itself and The Hunters Inn which is a great watering hole for whilst you are there. The owners are extremely friendly and I felt at home immediately, views are to die for and lots of parking for guests. The route in is narrow and not for the faint hearted but par for the course in Devon and Cornwall so not unexpected. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as it is in a beautiful setting and an ideal place to relax or go exploring from either on foot or by car. I will definitely be back :-)
Cons: No complaints at all....

Pros: Bed was very comfy. Bedroom was very nice. Bathroom was spacious and lovely design.
Cons: Nothing.
7,9 Good
Pros: Spotlessly clean and modern.
Cons: We had an early start on Sunday morning and requested breakfast at 7.00am. This seemed to be a bit of a struggle for them as they don’t usually serve breakfast until 8.00am on a Sunday. We only wanted eggs, toast, cereal, fruit. We eventually had breakfast at 7.30am as one poor member of the night staff seemed to be preparing it on his own.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: WOW, what an amazing place. I highly reccomend this hotel. From super friendly and helphull staff, to spotless clean rooms, tasty well served breakfast. I can not see any other place to stay in the whole UK than this one.
7,9 Good
Pros: The building was lovely & staff friendly and welcoming. The location for me was excellent, convenient for the centre where I was visiting for work and on the river so I could run somewhere scenic at the end of the day.
Cons: The room didn't feel hugely clean, I noticed a leaf on the carpet on day 1 between a table and chair, it remained there for the extent of my stay. Bed sheets weren't changed, not a problem but if a policy you should say.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Quality accommodation, friendly and caring staff, all round recommended.

Pros: Everything about it was very good
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Broomhill Art Hotel is absolutely unique. This was my second visit and everything from kind, helpful and welcoming staff to absolutely delicious, fresh and expertly prepared menu exceeded, yet again, all my expectations. All the rooms were always spotlessly clean and elegantly furnished. The original contemporary art collection adorns not only the hotel, but could also be found in a superbly curated sculpture garden, which is beautifully kept all year round. This place is a peaceful oasis offering a feast for all senses. Thank you to the proprietors and all their team for such an amazing experience.
Cons: There is nothing not to like! This place is absolutely superb and second to none!
7,9 Good
Pros: The food is excellent. We had both dinner and breakfast and both were absolutely top class.
Cons: Our room was a bit on the small side.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: the location was a little out of the way , off the beaten track but beautiful surroundings. The room was modern but basic , it had everything that we needed . The food was exceptional, compliments to the chef.
Cons: We didn't dislike the hotel but it was a bit too modern for us, but absolutely perfect if you like modern .for us it didn't have the homely touches but that's just our taste.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Very friendly welcome and service from all of the staff.
Cons: Cobwebs all over the bathroom, very poor water / shower pressure and only a standard bar of soap supplied (no shower gel or shampoo).

Pros: The staff are all pros! Friendly, professional, they treat every request - large or small - promptly!
Cons: The condition of some of the areas of this grand old hotel could do with a bit of refurbishing - cracked plaster and some freash paint.

Cons: Main door of bedroom was hanging off. Could not eat in main restaurant because full, until after eight, to late.

All of the staff were very polite and welcoming. All I met said good morning and smiled. The food was in the Bistro was fabulous with generous portions. Excellent location for visiting Rosemore, Arlington Court and Combe Martin
Cons: We liked everything Nothing could have been better.

Cons: No air con but an effective electric fan provided . Not a criticism but a lot of the guests were older which we didn’t mind but probably unsuitable for younger people who want to party. Breakfast room quiet and calm which was lovely

Pros: Comfortable room, super helpful staff, scrupulously clean and excellent breakfast. Would happily stay again.
6,0 Good
Pros: The hotel was the in a good location. Room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: Plumbing somewhat noisy.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Breakfast excellent. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Car parking extremely limited. Room very dated and very cold (September) night as cracked window with no double glazing, central heating would not come on as controlled by thermostat elsewhere and no spare blankets on the shelf in wardrobe. Ensuite very small and bathroom embarrassing as toilet would not flush properly throughout the night. To smelly in morning to have a shower.Poor outlook over a neglected back yard. This property is more of a B&B than a hotel as it has no staffed reception, has a bell at the locked front door to which, after registering, you are given a key, no bar or evening meal just given a guide to restaurants in the town which are a lot further away than the described couple of minutes to the town on a cold windy night. Next day owner said he would have helped if we had advised him but as it was late at night and we had not been given a number to ring so we just put up with things! As a good will gesture, in view of our very bad experience, the owner could have offered some form of recompense but no such offer was made also the end time for breakfast of 08 30 is ridiculously earlier. It appears, presumably to save cost, the owner is trying to do most things himself so is falling short in a lot of areas that one would expect from the many hotels we have stayed in.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place, lovely people. A very welcoming hotel.
Cons: It was very warm, almost overpowering for me. But I am a warm person at the best of times. It didn't take away from the fact it was a lovely place.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: very good breakfast, nice comfortable room and pleasant surroundings. location fine for my weekend event and would re-book again.
Cons: nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel very easy to find. Very welcoming on arrival, was able to get into the room before heading back out for a wedding, for breakfast there was plenty to choose from and cooked fresh which was very good, waitress was very helpful serving breakfast and felt it wasn’t too much trouble if you needed anything, checkout was quick as already pre-paid. .
Cons: With living in a quiet area we were not used to traffic noise and noticed windows were not doubled glazed. Also shower was small but not having much space in the bathroom would be pushed to accommodate a bigger one but not complaining as overall stay was very good.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little room, very comfortable and well thought out, great breakfast

7,5 Good
Pros: The staff were so accommodating and friendly! Facilities are great in the hotel too
Cons: The carpet in our room is in desperate need of a carpet clean! The room was an acceptable level of cleanliness (white sheets, towels, bins and shower clean) but in need of a thorough deep clean

Pros: Everything was spot on
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel staff were very helpful and efficient in all areas of the hotel, reception, swimming pool and bar. Lovely modern refurbishment with comfortable bedrooms and public areas. Food was excellent and moderately priced and service first class. It was raining so we could not use the outside garden and pool.
Cons: Unfortunate that it is located in the area of businesses but has good car park and once inside you wouldn't know you were near a main road.
8,0 Excellent
Cons: Ran out of beer, guiness and almost pink gin
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was really well presented, the staff were professional and friendly, rooms quite spacious, beds very comfortable, the drinks were beautifully presented and the food was absolutely superb!
Cons: There was a strange clicking noise in the corridor in the evening, not sure what it was, but not the end of the world.
7,5 Good
Pros: Took room only, so cannot comment on b/fast. Carvery was good on Sunday. Good to see some attempt made to get air con into room in hot weather. Staff mostly good, bar one rather odd woman.
Cons: It was our first visit, so we couldn't really say what might be improved. We did hear the big Boss discussing something about wi-fi(?) facilities with a staff member, & he seemed to be aware of all that goes on - good sign.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good breakfast choice
Cons: Alternative to chips with most meals
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was very helpful and nice, this was very useful considering I had an interview the next day. She made the stay at the hotel lovely and made me feel very welcomed. The facilities (restaurant, bar, gym and swimming pool) was well kept and was great to use.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: very friendly, helpful staff, comfortable facilities, food good. Great walks from the hotel.
Cons: Interior decor in bedroom rather tired, although staff informed me the room was due to be renovated shortly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable beds plus the bonus of a balcony. The setting was outstanding with walks down to a beach on the doorstep. Excellent en-suite with bath and shower
Cons: The tv was positioned so that I blocked my husbands view as it was on a wall to the right of the bed. Cables weren’t hidden so it looked untidy Toast took 45 minutes from time of ordering to arrive and still no sign of cooked breakfast so we abandoned the order. No apology was made by waitress for the delay. However after we complained to management who were apologetic, the breakfast was refunded for our entire stay. This meant we had to go out for breakfast but the delay was unacceptable because it ate into our plans for the day. We were staying Sunday to Thursday so time was precious.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Service and food
5,4 Okay
Pros: The location of the hotel is very good. Car parking was easy.
Cons: The attitude of some of the staff was quite offhand and not helpful - especially on check-in. The choice of food was limited and not of a particulary high standard. One day the wrong menus were out in the bar, leading to confusion with ordering. Our room was very tired and in bad need of a refurb, as were other parts of the hotel. All in all a very disappointing experience and not what we were expecting from the information available pre-booking.

7,9 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed, chair and table to work at. nice choice of tea/ coffee and hot chocolate in room.
Cons: The room I stayed in ( 307 ) had an elevator shaft in it which was unpleasant. the floor was uneven and noisy. Possibly the worst room in what seemed to be a very nice hotel.
6,7 Good
Pros: Everything was lovely
Cons: Went for a meal with our son/daughter in law (who live in Barnstable ) was dissappointed with the service ,we had 2 waitresses who serve us,after the first Girl took our order the 2nd girl also came an ask for our order this happened not once but 3 times,it would be so much easier if the girls were given a designated area each, would of stop the confusion, other diners had the same problem,. After the meal we asked for a doggy bag to take home the Excess meat that was left we were told no it wasn't the hotels policy (due to reheating ) I personally have never been told no,in other places we have stayed are only too willing to give (doggy bag) after all we had paid for excess meat ,our daughter in law had to literally beg, very embarrassing ,we did eventually get permission for doggy bag,but no one should have to beg ??? Other than that incident our stay was lovely

Pros: Easy check inn. Very Clean and friendly staff.
Cons: Got there too late for a parking spot.
6,0 Good
Pros: The hotel did everything expected but lacked any real atmosphere/personality.
Cons: Car park at hotel very small and difficult to locate. Our room was noisy in the early mornings due to deliveries etc. arriving. Also the narrow passage way and steps with fire door right outside our room created more noise sometimes.

7,9 Good
Pros: Room was excellent and staff were worked hard to help you.
Cons: Saturday evening meal. Not enough staff to cope on the night. Meal not as described on menu. At breakfast the coffee and hot water containers not cleaned well enough, as when we made a cup of tea you could taste coffee And the outside of the water container was stained with coffee!

Pros: Room was as requested (quiet location), and adequately furnished and of good size (double). Location of hotel for us was perfect. When looking outside from inside the hotel all you can see is trees, the road is not visible, and road noise not audible. Perfect. We had great nights sleep. In the morning the choice for hot breakfast was excellent. We dined in several nights and again the choice for meals was excellent and reasonably priced. In fact the whole deal we had was excellent value for money. We stayed 4 nights to visit with old freinds and the break was made all the more special because of the hotel!
Cons: Not a thing!
5,0 Okay

Pros: Great bathroom, excellent breakfast
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Handy spot. Lovely setting. Handy for buses
Cons: Hot water in flasks for breakfast warm rather than hot
7,5 Good
Pros: Good choice of breakfast. Staff exceptional. Good location. Warm comfy rooms. Good base for getting to Barnstaple and other coastal resorts
Cons: Would have liked a better choice of evening meals. Though what we did have was good.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Reception staff very helpful. Bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast very good and nice to see good quality products being supplied. Evening meal, which was charged separately, was really good value for money. Tea and coffee supplies in the room were generous and biscuits delicious, and again good quality. Yes I will be going back again.
Cons: We were given a downstairs room initially, but after a couple of hours listening to the people above walking about in what sounded like hob nailed boots on a wooden floor, we asked to be moved. We were given another room, upstairs this time, which was far nicer, fresher and lighter. The first room was incredibly gloomy and even with all the lights on, it had a very depressing feel to it, plus it smelt peculiar. The whole place needs a coat of paint, a stiff broom outside and a tidying up of the gardens. It could look really nice.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice rooms lots of space
