6 hour delay with bad communication as to why
We never left. The engine starter had a malfunction. We waited 5 hrs to get accommodations. The staff was trying to be helpful. Today the flight is delayed..... this is unacceptable.
Delayed 4 hours due to crew. Then it began to rain and lightening. Crew arrived but then flight cancelled due to weather. American Airlines are thieves. No hotel voucher provided.
They didn’t secure my meal request, even tho I had it confirmed four days in advance. So I was on a flight for 9 hours without one. Then there was no WiFi, leaving me without communication that I very much needed. Overall, one of the poorest flight experiences I’ve had, and I even paid $200 for an upgrade.

The only other option available was for BA to put us on the 20:20 Kulula flight to Lanseria and then shuttle us from Lanseria to OR Tambo. It really is not pleasant to get back home so late on a week night and not even be given any warning or any reason for the huge delay."

I have special needs at my age and so booking early is how I typically make sure I can access the bathrooms easily without climbing over sleeping passengers. I picked flight for the price, but in the end I should have stuck with Delta, KLM and Air France and got the extra miles as with seat bookings and only one bag allowance, what I ended up paying did not make it worth it. Oh well, live and learn. Seats were tight, anyone bigger than me would have really struggled."

Now that is is poor customer service."

Apart from the delays in terms of departure times, the airline experience was so bad, given the medical incident from a passenger sitting at the back of the plane. I was so close to it, and was utterly disappointed by the failure of the cabin crew to control passengers from overcrowding the sick passenger and allow the crew to administer the necessary medical intervention. It all amounted to compromised safety at 30000 feet, and seriously more training on the part of the airline is required in this regard. The other issue I realised is lack of cleanliness and care on the part of cabin staff, with one lady spilling food next to where I was sitting and ignoring the incident completely. I had to ask another to intervene and for which only superficial help was rendered. This is not what I expected, but this is what I got and speaks volumes to a cabin crew which is all female, mature/elderly, and expected to be more hands on to problems of this nature. The food is terrible in economy class, with options very limited. I opted for chicken, but did not know that it had curry in it, so I could not eat my meal further, and so no need to ask for the vegetarian option.

You go through customs, get dumped outside, have to recheck your luggage whenever the counter decides its going to open. 11 hour layover on the way down, 6 hour layover on the way up. Food options were fried chicken (KFC), fried chicken (Churches), fried chicken (the local franchise), and Subway. Since the layover was late at night and I was a woman traveling alone, I did not want to leave the airport (and still drag my luggage because the airline counter was not open yet to check in to my connecting flight)."

Cons: "I booked through the United website as trip from US, have Silver status on United, and Lufthansa's policies of not allowing advance (1-2 mo before flight) seat selection (never on UA nor LH websites) are just horrible. Hard to get through on 800 number, and 1 day before trip answer was still to do it in Frankfurt. Economy plus was $1000 more/person, and even then no guarantee I could choose a seat far in advance. Then, at computer kiosk in Frankfurt, they had a wrong diagram of the plane,as we ended up on what turned out to be a no-recline row which I would never get. I'm 6'2", 230lbs, and wasn't able to sleep on that flight. Had I been able to reserve a seat behind a bulkhead or in exit row 2mos in advance, I would have been fine."

Pros: "On a recent trip it was very good to be in the new dreamliner and with staff that were enthusiastic and being able to deliver a good product, food and comfort wise was a big bonus. Thank you"

Pros: "Although I was allowed a personal item and a carryon. The agent at the plane doors ( Guyanese guy. Insisted I check my carryon, for the reason the flight is full name note I was the second to last person to boaRd the plane. I explained to him I had a shoetc connection to MIA and then to Frankfurter so I did not take any other luggage so I would not haveto wait. He insisted I will get my luggage as soon as I exit the plane in Houston, which I asked him 3 times . The plane was not full there were more than 10 empty seats and lots of luggage space.I got to Houstonew to be told I would have to go the the luggage belt to pick up my bag, which did not appear for half an hour after we landed. I was truly disgusted"

Cons: "Original flight was delayed one hour and forty minutes to to flight traffic in lax. I was fortunate enough to get a flight to sfo to get my connection to Santa Barbara. The main complaint is that united help desk said flight traffic had been delayed out of lax for the past 3 days. I should have been informed earlier I would have save end mealot of stress"

Cons: "Staff boarding did not care travelled with my diabetic mom going home to Houston they could not be bothered to seat us together response was " ash your fellow passengers to swap with you" how aweful"

Cons: "Delayed for an excessive amount of time before the flight was finally Cancelled. Got stuck waiting for over 7hrs before the flight was eventually cancelled. Barley made it home in time for my grandfather's funeral as a result."

Cons: "In boarding, I was told the flight was overbooked and because I did not choose a seat prior to checking in that I would be placed on stand by after purchasing my tickets weeks before. I was highly upset and that was unfair. Long story short, at boarding they were able to give me a seat. I should have never went through that stress if I had a confirmed purchased ticket from the beginning."

Cons: "I was taken by surprise when I was required to pay for one checkin luggage. I am normally allowed one free and felt that I should have been notified beforehand."

Pros: "Everything really was superb. Food rated low because of a measly biscuit on a 6 hour flight. Entertainment rated low because I even had to pay to gain access to the flight tracker. And, as far as airlines go, comfort should've been 5 stars, but I really could have used a back pillow. Or even a back pillow option (had I asked an attendant - all of whom were awesome). PS. Kayak's regular emails kept me unusually updated on flight progress and their communication was the main factor in my decision to complete this survey."

Cons: "I purchased a return ticket from Port of Spain, Trinidad to Newark, NJ with United. I also purchased the insurance on this flight because it's good sense to be prepared. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the flight because of medical reasons and had to cancel. When I called United to purchase a new ticket, they were charging me a $200 rebooking fee plus a $30 processing fee. That's almost the price of the ticket! This is an absolutely horrible policy and very unfair. I had to rebook a new ticket with JetBlue which is 100% better, reasonable and understanding than United. Not to mention I lost the credit with united because with the rebooking and processing fee, it's almost the same price as the ticket. Because of this atrocious experience, United will never get my business again."
Cons: "Having lines like southwest (a, b, c) was a turnoff. Having no free tv or news was a major turnoff."

Cons: "The older female attendant was extremely rude . Noted her inability to communicate with an obvious mentally challenge teenager. This attenders needs to retire she appears to be very tired of her job giving United a very poor image."
Pros: "Crew was personable. Free wifi entertainment with a good selection of movies broken down by genres as well as Satillite style radio. Plenty of leg and shoulder room: I'm 6'4" & weigh 280 with a 38" waist, so I notice these things"
Cons: "Snack was only a single mouthful of pretzels (note size comment above)."
