My luggage was delayed because the flight arrived late and I almost missed my connecting flight to Atlanta. My luggage was delayed and it took 3 days to receive my luggage once it arrived in Atlanta. The baggage department is horrendous and non-existent. I did not get a call, I had to go to the Airport and wait for manager to board a flight, waited 3 hours and then they got my luggage for me. I understand staffing issues but there should be a better process for baggage services.

But since the first leg is always getting in and you have to bus to the terminal, transit time is about 30 mins. Agents need to be more diligent with where they are sending bags and to double- and triple-check before he luggage is sent down the ramps."

Cons: "After thorough check (and hours at the airport) at the holiday destination, Dubai, my luggage was deemed lost. The DXB lost luggage staff helped me complete a 'lost luggage' report. However, the staff member told me that 'if' RwandAir found my luggage, I would be responsible for going to the airport as RwandAir does not have lost luggage delivery like most airlines. For the six days of my holiday, I waited for phone calls and checked emails expecting to hear from RwandAir. I heard nothing, RwandAir had made no effort of any kind to locate my luggage they had mishandled. Upon flying back home, I checked with the initial airport (DXB), the transit airport (Kigali), and my final destination airport (Brazzaville). My luggage was not in any of the airports mentioned. In each airport, and the RwandAir office at the Brazzaville airport, I presented the initial lost luggage form from the prior week and it was apparent that nobody, no airport, and no office was interested in finding my luggage. RwandAir, at no point, apologized for losing my belongings or in any way attempted to make up for seriously harming my holiday- not to mention the fact that it appears I will never see my possessions that were last seen being taken by RwandAir staff at the beginning of my holiday travels."

Cons: "Check-in closes one hour before your flight. Economy class: Food was a clingwrapped sandwich. The attendant gave me two bottles of a good South African wine. Security has gotten quite uptight at Kigali airport. They now stop your cab a couple hundred meters short of the airport, and have a dog check the vehicle. You have to pass through another security checkpoint at the entry to the airport building, and a third security into the boarding area. The final security check even takes away any empty bottles you have. And don't take any fingernail scissors in your handcarry, even if they have blunt points. You may have an hour or more wait in preboarding, and without water or bathroom excess. So takke care of these needs in advance."

Cons: "Good day. My wife and I were supposed to board on the above flight from Maputo to Johannesburg at 11:30am. For some odd reason the flight wad delayed and the plane only departef at 03:15pm. We had a connection flight from Johannesburg to Luanda (DT578 TAAG Angolan Airlines) wich we nearly missed. My luggage didn't arrive in Luanda. So far nothing wrong. Delays are normal. The major problem was the ground crew in Maputo who didn't provide proper information on time. Furthermore after landing in JHB no protection to late passengers in transit was provided. When disembarking I approached a lady at the bottom of the stairs and she didn't have our names on the list so we were on our own trying to find our way through the endless cue at the transfers counter. We made it but I'm sure Hussein Bolt would have lost a race against us. Shame SAA!!! This was the last airline in Africa I would expect a such unprofessional treatment. Cons: "We had a delay of a few hours. Although some time was made up in the air, my connecting flight was going to be very close. I asked the flight attendant to notify SA of the delay for those of us on the connecting flight and she refused. (Overall, with the exception of one woman, I did not see any of the crew even smile across three flights). We were told that there would be a gate agent to help. There was none. It turns out my colleague, who was on the connecting flight, convinced the SA flight to Namibia to wait 30 minutes, which was plenty of time for us to make it. We even saw this on the board. However, with no assistance, we struggled to find the gate. Aggravated, we still arrived at the connecting gate before the flight departed, but no SA agent was willing to help us. They just talked with each other. The flight to Namibia just sat there!! When I returned to the help desk and asked to be switched to an Air Namibia flight in order to get to Windhoek in time to meet my safari, the employee told me that the manager needed to approve the switch, but the location of this person was unknown. The Air Namibia flight was departing in 50 minutes. The Air Namibia crew was SUPERB and helped enormously when I decided to purchase a ticket - at my own expense because the SA manager was still MIA - to fly on to Windhoek. Very, very disappointing. I am a travel planner who sends people all over the world and will not recommend SA unless this is acknowledged. Thank you."

I boarded a flight from Washington to San Fransisco then from there to New York but none of these charged me the carry on bag. When I reached at New York they said your laws (south african airways) does not allow a person to have carry on bag and laptop bag. At this time I had already extra lagguage which I paid $200 and they told me to pay another $200 dollars for carry on bag. They were so rude to me they told me to leave the bag if I do not have money. I was stranded. I tried to tell them that I boarded two flight which they did not charge me. They said the flights has different laws. But when I was going to New York i used the same flight with carry on lagguge and my laptop bag. So I paid $400. When I entered the flight I was shocked to find that almost everyone had a carryon bag. I felt that they did that to me because I was black and they wanted to find advantage on me. I was so stressful because I had no where to go. I used Delta flight when i was coming to new york but I have never experienced this charges. Now international flight experiencing this horrible situation. . True paying $400 because I had carry on bag?? Am still stressful they took a lot to me. They did not gave me receipt. I asked them to give me receipt all what they were answering me was like "just go." I have never been in a such situation. That is why I said I do not have appetite of boarding South African airways again. Is it true that your laws doesn't allow people to have carryon luggage? The briyani was chicken and I was able to eat around the chicken —delicious and tasty. The crew were cheerful and a refreshing relief to the long voyage across this planet. Cons: "Nothing you could have provided other than a business class leg each way. Long, long flight across this planet—half way. I would prefer more English and Foreign movies, please. Unfortunately I left my prescription reading glasses on flight VA602 and Jacques Nortje at Heathrow was kind enough to go looking for them at the lost and found of Virgin Atlantic—to no avail. Black hard case with blue rimmed glasses and a blue cleaning cloth. His service was a godsend—enabling me to stay flight side whilst he went land side so I did not need to go through security for an unaccomplished mission as the glasses were not there."

Cons: "I was told I had to book my guitar into special luggage and was charged 50 pounds. I was told it would be waiting for me in JHB at the airplane door. In JHB I was told it would come out of the luggage rack where it was transported by pushcart and despotism upside down on a conveyer belt - certainly not what t[he card I was given said. SAA told me "sometimes rules have to be changed for security reasons." Which was clearly nonsense. This I the first time I have flown SAA in many years and the first time I have booked by guitar - I do around 60 flights per year in many countries. I will never fly SAA again"

We ended up being delayed all the way and we missed our flight from DC to Chicago. On our way to Harare our suitcases were missing. We had to incur more expenses in the city coming back to the airport , we got charged $148 on top of that by the Harare immigration guys and we had to spend a lot in the restaurant because of that"

Overall cabin experience can be improved in terms of hygiene and food quality ( food was mediocre or slightly worse). Seat ahead reclines almost too much into personal space in the new 787 aircraft. The LCD displays don't pivot so it's virtually impossible to view the entertainment when the occupant of the seat in front fully reclines ( a somewhat irritating issue on a long flight )"

I had to call my parents in Washington DC from Nairobi, have them drive out to Dulles airport and work it out at the Ethiopian office there to give the OK for me to get checked in in Nairobi. The whole process took about four hours and three managers all while I was stewing, worried I wouldnt make it on my flight."

Even though I requested the crew said it was not policy and I should use the yellow mask (which sadly does not block out the light). I think a few hours off dimmed lights would greatly enhance comfort levels."

There was no communication whatsoever, they just handed us papers without explaining what was happening."
