Pros: "Nothing in particular stands out about our flight. We've flown many airlines, Aeroflot, British Air, Delta, Iceland Air and KLM recently. Lufthansa was right in there with the middlet of the pack, with the exception of Iceland Air, which would be at the bottom, but they make no pretenses. The seats, even in the basic economy, which we had,reclined and were comfortable; good legroom. Food and drink offerings were standard. Amounts were small, but everything was the right temperature. Restrooms were clean and well equipped. Movie offerings, not many newer releases. Nothing like Sky news, so you couldn't check weather or current events. Crew was courteous and attentive,"
Cons: "Boarding at Frankfort left much to be desired. First off, the equipment was not ready; we waited 45 min. to board after we got to the gate (early) and due to turbulence over the Atlantic, the pilots could not make up the time. We are senior citizens. We, along with about 25 others in our category, responded to the call for us to get in line to board, stand for 30 min. The gate personnel did not provide any information that boarding was NOT imminent at that point, so you had to stand up to keep your place. Finally, once the boarding for people needing assistance began, we got to choose between using 2 flights of stairs (a faster way to get into the plane) or an elevator to board the plane. (Hello! We have trouble with things like stairs; don't you know that?) The elevator accommodated one wheelchair and 2 or 3 people at a time. More waiting in the jetway to get down to the plane! The whole boarding process took 90 min. from the time we stood up to the time they closed the doors. Bad grades for the the cleaning crew making us wait so long, for the gate personnel for keeping us in the dark and the disorganized process boarding. Nobody cared about our discomfort, not what we would have expected from LH. Consequently, we've revised our opinion of Luthansa. Maybe next time we'll take BA."

Cons: "The seats were too close to the row in front of them. I've taken 12 flights from the USA to Europe since 1990 and the two I've taken on Lufthansa this month were horrible! Airplane food is always bad...who cares. But being trapped in uncomfortable seats with no room to shift your position for a six plus hour flight is inhumane! My son is 6'2" and his knees were literally against the back of the chair in front of him, luckily my daughter was in that seat so she didn't recline it on his knees. My back was killing me in the first hour (I'm only 5'2") my 13 year old daughter complained that her back was killing her by the end of the flight. I've never flown Lufthansa before and will never again!"

Cons: "This flight from Athens was delayed which caused us concerned for our connecting flight in Frankfurt to Los Angeles. We told the crew and they were not very empathetic about our concern. It would have been great to have announced overhead or even to us personally all the gates to those of us who were getting connecting flights. We were just told to check the board outside once we landed. Lufthansa could have provided excellent service to my family if they had helped us with our connecting flight gate information to navigate the airport terminal we had never been in before. We literally ran to get our connecting flight which was upstairs once we identified the gate # by ourselves."

Cons: "Good day. My wife and I were supposed to board on the above flight from Maputo to Johannesburg at 11:30am. For some odd reason the flight wad delayed and the plane only departef at 03:15pm. We had a connection flight from Johannesburg to Luanda (DT578 TAAG Angolan Airlines) wich we nearly missed. My luggage didn't arrive in Luanda. So far nothing wrong. Delays are normal. The major problem was the ground crew in Maputo who didn't provide proper information on time. Furthermore after landing in JHB no protection to late passengers in transit was provided. When disembarking I approached a lady at the bottom of the stairs and she didn't have our names on the list so we were on our own trying to find our way through the endless cue at the transfers counter. We made it but I'm sure Hussein Bolt would have lost a race against us. Shame SAA!!! This was the last airline in Africa I would expect a such unprofessional treatment. I boarded a flight from Washington to San Fransisco then from there to New York but none of these charged me the carry on bag. When I reached at New York they said your laws (south african airways) does not allow a person to have carry on bag and laptop bag. At this time I had already extra lagguage which I paid $200 and they told me to pay another $200 dollars for carry on bag. They were so rude to me they told me to leave the bag if I do not have money. I was stranded. I tried to tell them that I boarded two flight which they did not charge me. They said the flights has different laws. But when I was going to New York i used the same flight with carry on lagguge and my laptop bag. So I paid $400. When I entered the flight I was shocked to find that almost everyone had a carryon bag. I felt that they did that to me because I was black and they wanted to find advantage on me. I was so stressful because I had no where to go. I used Delta flight when i was coming to new york but I have never experienced this charges. Now international flight experiencing this horrible situation. . True paying $400 because I had carry on bag?? Am still stressful they took a lot to me. They did not gave me receipt. I asked them to give me receipt all what they were answering me was like "just go." I have never been in a such situation. That is why I said I do not have appetite of boarding South African airways again. Is it true that your laws doesn't allow people to have carryon luggage? If it is true why some customers had the carry on luggage?? my carry was small it was not 23 pounds. Am still feeling pain for what they did to me. I know the name of the woman who was rude. If you treat passengers like that, there will be no good. The complain customer."

The briyani was chicken and I was able to eat around the chicken —delicious and tasty. The crew were cheerful and a refreshing relief to the long voyage across this planet. Cons: "Nothing you could have provided other than a business class leg each way. Long, long flight across this planet—half way. I would prefer more English and Foreign movies, please. Unfortunately I left my prescription reading glasses on flight VA602 and Jacques Nortje at Heathrow was kind enough to go looking for them at the lost and found of Virgin Atlantic—to no avail. Black hard case with blue rimmed glasses and a blue cleaning cloth. His service was a godsend—enabling me to stay flight side whilst he went land side so I did not need to go through security for an unaccomplished mission as the glasses were not there."

Cons: "The aircraft could not take off due to a technical issue and we were told by the captain that we would be provided with accommodation for the night. This did not transpire and the whole plane had to sleep in the departure lounge on the seats with cold aircon and no food or drink. The staff went home and left us to survive. We were told that they would not put us on another flight. By 8 am there was a mutiny because no one was keeping us informed about what was happening. We were tired and hungry and they just did care. After a group meeting, which got very angry, we were then allocated a room in a hotel. The lack of help was unbelievable and we were made to feel like criminals. No senior management came to give apologies. No compensation was offered for our 24 hour delay."

The Ghana boarding process actually borders on the ridiculous when you are told to go to the gate three times in the announcements and turned away three times by security staff. You have to produce your passport three times at the boarding gate entry as well. Vegetarian food is normally always a tomato pasta dish. FYI vegetarians eat vegetables too and we like butter and cheese as well. Emigration should work out that two plane loads of people need more than three officials to check them ion arrival at ORT."

This sounds rather petty on my part and I apologize for such. The real issue is I had a dickens of a time coaxing her to smile. Secondly. there was no video function beyond flight path for the entire flight. I live in a village in Zambezi and truly enjoy watching media on flights as I don't see much at home in Kanono and haven't figured out computer very well. The crew said they would reboot (?) the program but that didn't happen. There was no apology for contracted feature not being available, I sure wish I could have watched movies as I am not able to sleep in general."

Someone had thrown up on the plane in a seat near us early on the flight and there was a terrible smell on account of the passenger not disposing of her air sickness bag. When we asked the crew for help in kindly reminding passengers to dispose of their airsickness bags, if used, they were very dismissive rather than helpful."

Cons: "The immigration staff in SA wasn't nice at all. They were very harsh and apathetic. Then we got delayed so bad when some other guy locked himself out with his car in the tarmac. We ended up being delayed all the way and we missed our flight from DC to Chicago. On our way to Harare our suitcases were missing. We had to incur more expenses in the city coming back to the airport , we got charged $148 on top of that by the Harare immigration guys and we had to spend a lot in the restaurant because of that"

Cons: "Incident report: August 15, 2016, SA210, When we stopped at Accra, Ghana, Kotoka International ACC for re-fuel and cleaning the aircraft --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- South African Airline violates two accounts stated on the bottle: 1. When it says “dis-infection of Aircraft” means Passengers are not Aircraft. Passengers should not be sprayed on. Passengers should not be in the airplane when this is sprayed. 2. Use for Pre-embarkation means no human in the aircraft. We were inside of the aircraft. It sprayed on our body all over and everywhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Major health damages: 3. After the spray, several passengers (our travel group) had severe sneezing attacks and running nose and sinusitis. One lady sneezed at least 50 times non-stop initially and continued to sneeze for the rest of the trip in the plane. Her sinus was swollen and painful for the rest of trip to Johannesburg. You are lucky she did not make a big deal and suffered silently. You may argue that WHO approved it. On the bottle, WHO approve for the use of Aircraft, not human in the aircraft. On August 15, 2016, I witnessed many passengers’ immune system were damaged – some reacted violently. 4. Please do not wait until someone has asthma attack and die in your aircraft due to allergy to the spray. 5. As a physician I prescribe Permethrin for Scabies treatment. Patients were told to use it on the skin for 8-10 hours and then wash off complete right away due to potential neurotoxicity, especially for young children. 6. My medical specialty is Integrative Medicine and Preventive Medicine. I feel I am obligated to bring this up to Department of Health of South Africa in order to prevent passengers being harmed, especially those who suffer from chemical / environmental allergies, rhinitis, sinusitis, asthma, COPD, skin disease, migraine, etc… just to name a few. 7. Suggestion and Solution: Passengers should all be off the plane, and escort to an area while aircraft is being re-fueled, cleaned and sprayed insides. This will make the cleaning crews more efficient for their cleaning work and less allergenic reactions, potential fatal, to passengers who suffer dust and / or insecticide spray allergies. This will reduce health hazard to passengers and workers. Thank you for being conscious about environmental safety issues. PS: One crew member, Imraan, is very conscientious. He came and showed his concern about symptoms one lady had from spray. He made SA airlines look better. One crew member was rude because he reluctant to give me one bottle of water for my husband who was sleeping at the time of the drink service. ."

I was going to a conference and my suits were in the lost bag, because i was flying to brasil (not my home) on a brasilian passport I was not given any money to purchase clothes for my conference. the flight delayed 2 hours. poor entertainment selection. i will NEVER EVER fly TAAG again!!"

Cons: "when i purchased the tickets excess baggage was 80 USD, when I got to the airport it was 250 USD even though the website said 200 USD. They checked my bags through before i presented a payment receipt, I was not able to pay because I could not afford it. The crew took 2 hours to find my bags and bring them back, I lost all time at the airport (I arrived 3 hours before the flight). was not able to eat, or drink anything before boarding. I made it to the gate 5 minutes before it closed. Food ran out by the time it got to me and the only option was sea food. movie options were old and limited. the plane delayed."

Cons: "The inflight entertainment wasn't all that great with limited choices available. However...LUANDA Airport and staff were the WORST! On both occasions it was difficult to find a person who could even speak english, the airport is a rip off (the most expensive I've ever experienced), the ground and airport staff were mostly an array of disinterested, impolite, unhelpful, buffoons. I would not want to fly TAAG again in order to avoid any layover in Luanda longer than 2hrs."

Cons: "The plane smelled. It was lacking in food choices and beverage selection. When I inquired about the food and beverage choices, I was told I don't know why the airlines didn't provide more. I watched the steward named Keli provide alcoholic drinks to an already intoxicated passenger. The woman stewardess was just rude when asked any questions, specifically when asked for a blanket."
