Cons: "Flight from NY to Thessaloniki had a medical emergency. Plane was diverted to Manchester Airport in England to help patient on flight. This caused over 3.5 hour late arrival into Istanbul. This caused me to miss onnnection flight. There was very poor information or guidance by staff once we arrived into airport. I had to walk long long distances from the gate without assistance. I had requested wheelchair assistance considering I just had spinal cord surgery and In need of assistance. I was forced to stay over night in Istanbul and waited over 12 hours next day in airport for next available flight to Thessaloniki. I missed my brothers wedding night and could not be his best man for wedding from ordeal which was not fair! I also payed a premium price close to 1000k USA dollars for flight I could of booked many tickets with such a long layover and extra expenses buying a visa and food for half the fare I payed. This was not fair especially when a plane is diverted for medical emergency! To top it all off being a medical doctor I loaned and assisted staff with passenger and offered my consultation. services to emergency medical physician whom was called by crew for help and finally which reccomended to divert flight to Manchester to assist the passenger In crisis! Of course the gates were nowhere near each other so we ran as fast as we possibly could to catch our next flight. When we finally got to the gate, the employees were so kind to rush us through each step of security and get us to the door and there had to be at least 7 or 8 people who were working and doing whatever they could to get us on that flight. It meant so much! We had been up since 2am to catch our previous flight and just wanted to get home to our families and dogs! We were so grateful they worked so hard to get us on the plane!"

Many people 'cut' in line. It wasn't until someone yelled at them about the problem that they started to honor the line. Unfortunately that was five hours in to the wait!"
Pros: "This is a government run airline with very poor customer service. I flew 6 flights in December, 2016 in business class - out of which 5 flights were late. There was no help at the transfer desk in Istanbul to get onto another flight as my connecting flight was missed because the original outbound flight was late. The customer service staff both at the lounge and the transfer desk were inept and rude and did not want to help. I shudder to think how economy passengers are treated."

Cons: "I've flown Turkish a few times before, and they're generally pretty good for the price. This trip was different. Despite Turkish Airlines policies outlined in their "Customer Rights," I received no notification that the flight was delayed 3 hours, and there was no notification at the JoBurg airport until you go to the counter to check in. JoBurg staff - which are Menzies third-party contractors, not Turkish staff - were disorganized, uncommunicative, and unhelpful. Only one person at the check in desk seemed to have authorization to make any changes, so all other agents were running back and forth to speak with him, and not communicating with passengers. It took over an hour to get clarity on the situation and rebook my connecting flight to Washington for a different flight 8 hours later. The only compensation offered was one meal voucher worth R100 (roughly $7). They would not even look at other Star Alliance flights for early arrival in Washington, and said they were not authorized to consider upgrading my ticket. When I called the Turkish customer service, they essentially said "What do you want us to do about it? You have to submit a formal complaint." Boarding was totally disorganized. In theory there are boarding groups, but after business class and all the high-ranking loyalty members, it's pretty much a mad rush. This seems to be the common practice for Turkish now. In general, Turkish has a great entertainment system on all their long-haul flights, with tons of movies - including very new releases - music, games, etc. They also provide complimentary kits with socks, slippers, eye mask, earplugs and dental kit, even for economy passengers. The meals are fairly good for airlines. However, legroom in economy isn't great. I'm 6'1", and had difficulty getting comfortable with my knees jammed into the back of the seat in front of me. On this particular flight, I was in row 18. The cabin crew were frantic, disorganized, and shouting to each other across passengers. One half of our row was served the meal, and the other half had to wait over 30 minutes to be served for some reason. By that time the vegetarian option was no longer available. Crew also had to run back and forth between service carts because they were frequently out of very common beverages (like sparkling water. And ice.), and on two occasions crew left a drawer from a cart full of trash sitting in the aisle. There were several times that crew ran carts into passengers - including once into my knee that was not in the aisle - and didn't even acknowledge doing so. They also stopped the carts in front of occupied lavatories, temporarily trapping passengers. So not terribly professional. While not specifically on this flight, the experience in Istanbul airport with Turkish Airlines' staff was awful. Zero interest in helping, rude and dismissive, and overall terrible."

Too many people were changing seats with permission from the air hostesses . The air hostesses missed me 3 times for food and beverage . They passed right by me . They weren't organized at all. I had to call them to remind them to give me some food and drink. Plus when boarding they only announced it in Turkish and not English"

I was happily sitting in the lounge drinking copious amounts of hot tea due to an illness when my flights status changed on the monitor; "go to gate", it read. When I dutifully arrived at the gate, what was happening? Absolutely nothing. I sat there shivering for another 30 mins before boarding, my heat source (the tea) removed. The moral of the story is that a passenger's time has value, DO NOT waste it. In my case, the cost was physical agony of freezing on a mediterranean island in the summer while wearing 2 shirts, long pants, and double socks. If the ground staff did everything to procedure and are thus faultless, then the procedure is reprehensible and should be updated."

The space for economy was reasonable. The flight was delayed 2 hours, changed gates 3 times, the food was mediocre, the entertainment was outdated, the worst part of the flight was the service by the crew , total lack of hospitality, bad manners, lack of care.

Food could be better and there was no entertainment on the 737 Max 800 for a 4.5 hour flight, surely this can be sorted

Cons: "Unfortunately, I had to request earphones (which were not supplied in the seat pocket in front of me) five times from three different attendants over the course of an hour and a quarter before I was given them. This was not just so I could watch a movie but because the quality of the plane's public address system made it very difficult to listen to the announcements from the captain and the crew. Listening on earphones I was able to hear everything clearly. Why it had to take so long just to give me earphones I don't know."

La dame qui me recevait voulait à tout prix me coller pour se faire d’argent. L’avion devrait faire escale à Douala donc on ne descend pas au sol. Pourquoi me demander où exiger que je devrais avoir un visa sur le Cameroun. C’est inadmissible. J’allais au Tchad et elle sait bien que je n’avais pas non plus besoin de visa compte tenu des accords de réciprocité entre état. J’avais mon visa et pourtant elle insistait. Ce qui était marrant ces collègues étaient complices. J’ai dû hausser le ton et l’insulter proprement. Mon adrénaline a monté. Trop de corrompus et moins de gens intègres dans vos rangs que ce soit à Cotonou et surtout à Accra. You need screens on every seat so passengers can watch movies, documentaries, music or something else to avoid to get bored.

There is no food or entertainment on such a short flight. The crew was fast and efficient. The one thing you should know is it is open seating so ignore your boarding pass seat number and sit where you like.

Stay away from flights going through Lome if that is not your final destination. The agents at the Accra airport are also thieves. They held onto my boarding pass for my upgraded ticket which I paid an extra $800; untill I paid $260. for excess baggage, when I was entitled to 3 free because of my upgraded ticket. I could have kept my economy seat and paid only $260, instead I paid $1060!. The agent held onto my boarding pass untill I had paid and had only 20 minutes to clear TSA. Pleasw do not fly Ethiopian Air via Lome to Ghana!!!!. You will regret this very e expensive experience.

The seat was incredibly dirty and beat up. To pay so much money for such a disregard for customers career and safety was quite troubling to me. This flight too had no air conditioning going at all. From boarding to the 45-minute flight my mother and I, as well as the other passengers including babies were sweating. Customers should not have to deal with such things people can get severely ill. This is beyond unsafe for customers and the staff. I am not sure who is responsible for this situation but I am not okay with it."

The flight was well over two hours late (for a 40-minute flight, this was frustrating and completely unexplained by the crew). We had to be transported by bus to the plane and that was another hour-long process with very little apology from the overworked and overwhelmed staff. Ethiopian Airlines and ASKY appears to be a bargain in terms of price but I would be highly unlikely to use them in the future after such a disappointing introduction. I’m sure they lost several dozen repeat clients because of the disorganized nature of their transfers from Newark and the nonchalant attitude of their staff. I would not recommend this, especially for elderly and disabled passengers or families with young children."

I was never reimbursed for my wasted time or hotel fees I had to pay. They all spoke French, I do not."
