Pros: "The crew was great. Not some of the gate agents."
Cons: "Re-routing us better not to miss the flight."

Cons: "I got two basic economy seats and no seat assignment until after other passengers had already started boarding. The gate agent showed up late so it was a hassle to get to the counter and find out where I was sitting. Then there was a long backup on the gang way, and we still couldn't get on the plane. We were delayed sitting on the tarmac for an extra hour, the crew could have given us drinks or snacks then."

The Japanese translating flight attendant for flight UA78 on 3/27/19 was gruff and rude in her tone of voice. She needs some help!"

Cons: "The fact that United forces basic economy customers to check carry-on luggage is nothing but a cash grab. Some of the overhead compartments were completely empty yet they force you to pay ?30/ bag. They also gouge you an extra $25 per bag if you bring your carry on to the gate."

Cons: "I booked through the United website as trip from US, have Silver status on United, and Lufthansa's policies of not allowing advance (1-2 mo before flight) seat selection (never on UA nor LH websites) are just horrible. Hard to get through on 800 number, and 1 day before trip answer was still to do it in Frankfurt. Economy plus was $1000 more/person, and even then no guarantee I could choose a seat far in advance. Then, at computer kiosk in Frankfurt, they had a wrong diagram of the plane,as we ended up on what turned out to be a no-recline row which I would never get. I'm 6'2", 230lbs, and wasn't able to sleep on that flight. Had I been able to reserve a seat behind a bulkhead or in exit row 2mos in advance, I would have been fine."

Cons: "I've never had a problem bringing two backpacks on a plane but United makes sure they charge you for that second bag even though there was plenty of overhead space. I also went to the kiosk and it printed my bag check receipt but not my boarding pass and I had to run back from security to get it when I realized. Crew was nice and flight was smooth but everything before that point I could have lived without."

Cons: "I was in the center bulkhead seat with an very oversized man on the aisle seat with a "service dog". It was not a service dog in the sense that it was all over the place--on my feet and in the aisle where it tripped a stewardess more than once and she told him it couldn't be in the aisle. So it pushed over to my seat because the guy was just to big to share his legroom. It shredded napkins the man dropped which a trained dog would not do. it bounced his tray table up causing him to drop his two vodkas. I had to have the stewardess tell him to move his arm and body out of my seat so I could stow my tray for landing. When waiting for my ride outside the dog was off lease and ran into the pickup lanes where the man had to chase him down. A true service dog would never behave like that."

Pros: "The first leg of the trip was very good and no complaints. Food and entertainment-N/A"
Cons: "Perhaps the people who have a tight connection could be allowed off of the plane first. I only had a half hour layover so by the time I got to the proper gate, I had missed my flight and had to wait eight hours for the next flight ."

Pros: "The staff was very friendly and accommodating"
Cons: "There was some sort of mix up with seat assignments two guys had the same seat assignment. The very nice gentleman who was sitting in my seat due this stood and allowed me to have my seat as it was on the isle and I was in boarding group 5 and my seat was all the way at the end by the bathrooms and needed to be able to stretch my legs into the isle. There was absolutely no leg room what so ever. The dude next to me spent the entire trip jabbing me in the side with his elbow so that he could access what little space I did have. I was unable to move my legs because every two seconds the entire plane was trekking to the back to use the bathroom, because while there was a third bathroom on the plane towards the front, for whatever reason nobody seemed to be using it."

Cons: "Flight turned around and I was merely given a voucher for a hotel. This was united's fault; it was not caused by weather. Now I'm responsible for paying $80 for a hotel room. I'm furious. I will never fly united again."

Pros: "The staff was pleasant. You can sign up for text notifications in reference to flight information."
Cons: "The gate changed and there was confusion as to the correct gate. Luckily I had signed up for United text notifications which communicated the change. Restroom restrictions due to non functioning test rooms."

Cons: "The two big complaints are the food which was quite pathetic for a 14 hour flight - half of a cold sandwich and one cookie!!! Really?? They need to fly their competition and see how it should be done! The biggest complaint of all is their slight of hand baggage charges. If they're going to partner with another airline, they need some communication and agreement about pricing and allowances. Even though we are United Club members and credit card holders, we were charged nearly $400 to bring our luggage home, after paying just $30., yes, thirty, on Air New Zealand to take two extra bags! United's own overseas policy allows two bags, but they charged us anyway on return because we came on an airline that only allows one even though we paid ANZ to bring extra. Extremely illogical."

Cons: "I was flying from Pittsburgh to Chicago to Fairbanks. My flight from Pittsburgh was delayed. My connecting flight from Chicago to Fairbanks was in the very next gate. But as I exited my first flight, my connecting flight pulled away from the gate. I was extremely disappointed."

The other thing I'd change would be having the two people helping with boarding speak more clearly on the intercom. I seriously couldn't understand much of what they were saying. Also, there's not much select for pop in your store."

Cons: "Unfortunately I am writing this letter to express my concerns and frustrations toward your stewardess on flight 1050, they were aggressive and condescending. A customer ask if they were serving drinks the male stewardess waved his hand and seemed quite annoyed and stated " mam what do you want to drink". In addition he would walk down the aisle and give you three wafer cookies , I'm wondering why three???? That's because he wanted me to pass them down as if I was in an assembly line rather than handing each customer a cookie. He walked through the aisle with water and never asked if anyone if they would like water. It was almost like he was annoyed at everyone in sight . I have never experienced such behavior on flight. I flew Unites AIrlines plenty of times and NEVER experienced this. The other customers in my row expressed their frustration with the unkindness of treatment during the flight. I understand it's a very hectic weekend with the holiday but there was absolutely no reason to experience such behavior. My party will not be looking forward to using united again!"

Cons: "On April 15 we flew from Sacramento to Basel, via Los Angeles and Munich. We did exactly what we were told re reserving seats. We were told to call 23 hrs. in advance to reserve seats. When we tried to follow directions, we were not able to check in. Without checking in, we could not reserve seats. After numerous phone calls, to various numbers, we were not able to check in or reserve seats. By continuing to ask questions, to try and understand, we were told we were "under airport control". This was an "at random" situation and online check in was not available. Only 5 minutes earlier, we were still being instructed to check in online! We had never heard of this. I contacted a neighbor, who flies often internationally and within the U.S. He said it had happened to him once. He agreed that driving to the airport in Sacramento was a wise decision. This is not what we wanted to be doing 1 day before departure. At Sacramento we found a kind gentleman who saw our dilemma and checked us in as a favor. We saw assigned seats. He suggested we request to improve our seats the following travel day. It was a very challenging morning. As I tried to improve our seating the following day I was told, by airport staff, that this happened because we booked through Kayak? Rather with an attitude that we should have booked differently. This was a vacation we had looked forward to for years. I worked hard at not letting this difficult start damage my trip. Upon arrival in Amsterdam, I tried to learn more, to prevent a similar situation on the way home."
