  • There are three Thrifty branches in Geneva: at the airport, the train station, and the city centre. One of the most popular places to get a Thrifty car hire is from Rue De Berne in the city centre, as it's conveniently located for anyone visiting the city. Whilst Geneva has a comprehensive transport network, you’ll enjoy more flexibility with a car hire as you don’t have to adhere to public transport timetables. The city centre branch also has the largest selection of vehicles to choose compared to other Geneva branches.

If you park for 90min on the white zone it’s about 2.80Fr (£2.40), whereas in the blue zone it’s free for the first 89min. You are able to pay for your parking space using the PayByPhone App or the nearby ticket machines. Make sure you follow the rules of parking otherwise you’ll get fined. In which case Thrifty would pay the fine and take the money off your credit card, along with an admin fee.

Kids under 12 or 150 cm in height need to be in a booster seat. You must drive on the right side of the road, which is the opposite of what you’re used to in the U.K. Drink driving is a serious offence and anyone found to be above the legal limit will be prosecuted. Mobile phone usage is permitted, but only on hands-free settings. If you see an emergency vehicle with its sirens or lights on, you must give them right of way.
  • When hiring a car with Thrifty in Geneva there are several add-ons that you can purchase to make your journey more convenient. For example, if you have a small child in the car you can get a child seat. Those that are unfamiliar with their surroundings can get a sat nav, so they don’t get lost in the city. Whereas if you are driving a long distance you can get an additional driver on your policy so you can share your time behind the wheel.
  • Small car hire from Thrifty in Geneva are around 28% cheaper than other car types, on average.

All good apart from being charged a cross-border fee of 65 francs. Hired a car with Alamo two weeks previously and was not charged at all - and wasn't even asked if I was going across any borders. Seems like a desk scamReviewed Jul 21 2026

i request few day before some information about the deposit, they told me in the cornavin agence it was 750 chf. but at the pickup location this number magically increased to 3000. The only way to reduce this oversized amount was to subscribe a very limited and expensive insurance at the pick up point. I had to cancel my booking due to this deposit amount, since it was beyond my card limit amount and i found another rental solution. I find this amount excessive for an economy car rental, i would have appreciated to receive this information in advance.Reviewed May 5 2026
