Pros: The ryokan was beautiful, clean with very helpful and friendly staff. It was so home like and i love the staff are always so attentive and careful with every single detail. The different japanese sweet upon room cleaning is totally unexpected. The onsite onsen was also very good and made the entire stay more and beyond. I would definitely come back if i am visiting the area again!

Pros: Probably one of our favorite stays in Japan. The beds and blankets were extra comfortable. The heater works perfectly as it should during winter times. The view was okay. We also enjoyed the Onsen bath, which had extra hot water, perfect during winter times. Check in and check out experience was nice. The room didn't feel too small so the design of the room deserves some compliments. The front desk officers even though couldn't speak much english, were extremely friendly and helpful. There was a convenient store right across the hotel

Cons: It's a little bit of a walk from the station. The staff could improve their english but yeah i don't think its a problem since they were super friendly. I don't think there were many things I didn't like. Enjoyed my stay there

Pros: Due to an event, I stay at this hotel for 3 nights and felt comfortable with stay. The hotel is well maintained, and the onsen is particular good. All rooms face same direction and has a beautiful view of the city. The restaurants are good. Breakfast was good. It is a large hotel, so expect some tour and more people than one can find at a smaller ryokan, but rest assured one won't feel crowded.

Pros: It is an iconic hotel in Takayama, conveniently located 5-minute walking distance from the train station. The accommodation experience is unique, everybody has to take off their shoes as soon as they get in and the whole hotel’s floor is paved with tatami. Hot spring on top level with public and 3 private which you need to queue up for.
Cons: The hotel is quite aged already so not for those who are looking for a contemorary choice. Only 2 elevators so waiting time could be long. And since it is so iconic, it was flooded with travellers who could be inconsiderate, such as cutting the queue, talking loudly in public bath (one was even using her phone in the bath!!!),etc.

Cons: It was extremely expensive and not what they advertised as, and the food was ordinary. Full of Chinese tourists who were rude. The dinner was ordinary for japan and it is right on the train line so it’s noisy. They make it seem fancy and expensive and it is over priced and crowded hotel. Osen would have been nice if the screaming and pushy children were kept under control. Don’t recommend this and frankly im over booking.com as there is too many of these kind places now.

Hotel provided “samples” of sweets and biscuits (try before you buy). The expansiveness of the hotel meant that despite the few groups of rather loud guests staying there, it was pretty quiet overall.
Cons: A couple of mugs would be good. It was tricky trying to make instant coffee. Room temperature couldn’t be adjusted; it was quite stuffy - thank goodness the windows could be opened for a bit of fresh air.

Pros: I left my hand carry luggage in the hotel. I discovered this after 10 hours. When I called the hotel, the staff was helpful . I got back the luggage which was kept in their custody . The onsen is good.

Cons: Made the mistake of reserving a "twin" room which has two very, very narrow beds. If you are a couple, be sure to reserve a queen or something like that. My mistake. Even for Japan, this is a very small room, so tight for a couple with luggage.
