Pros: Superb service and absolutely stunning food - a positive gem!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was OK and owners were kind.
Cons: As I said before everything was OK.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Delicious dinner and breakfast Spacious room (deluxe) with traditional features Very kind and helpful staff Bikes available to cycle in Takayama The availability of washing machines and tumble dryers - ideal when Takayama is half way in your Japan journey Lovely onsen bath with convenient opening time during the day
9,0 Excellent
Pros: the location is very good, facility is nice clean and cozy as well, though not brand new, the hotel offers the best hospitality experience to guests with warm smiles and nice treats- we truly enjoyed their service and facilities as well. It is also educational with many of the takayama local intro, highly recommended for tourists if you stopover at Takayama for one night or two.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It's a lovely place, beautiful spacious rooms and very good breakfast and dinner. It's very well managed and the personnel is very friendly and helpful. We had to leave one day earlier and without asking they refunded the last night to us. That was so friendly and I did not expect that at all, it was our loss to have to leave earlier but they gave this amazing service, thank you for that!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The room is very confortable, also the futon. We were lucky because We enjoyed the onsen experience with few person (one time also alone). But if there are many people then it Can be not so good and relaxing. The staff is very kind.
Cons: The view from our room was like a garbage deposit or something close to. We had to stay with the window closed and imagine to have mountains behind it. If you pay 400€ for one night I think you want something different also in the background. We suggest to have the kaiseki dinner and the traditional Japanese breakfast only to those who feel ready to try it. I liked the dinner, less the breakfast (fish, soup, vegetables and so on while we are used to have brioches and cappuccino). My girlfriend none of them. Even if all was good at the end, I think 400€ is still too much for what you have back.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: A beautifully styled traditional Japanese ryokan, we particularly liked the breakfast which was an absolute feast. It’s in a perfect location, a five minute walk from some of the beautiful preserved streets, and close to some great bars and restaurants - we would definitely recommend!

Pros: This is a true gem of an experience. We opted for the breakfast and dinner meals with our stay and i recommend you do the same because it is out of this world! Superb in everyway. Our favorite meals during our three week trip in Japan. Also, i enjoyed the alternating onsens. Finally, staff is so helpful and friendly; they went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. A memorable, delicious and delightful experience. Book now!!!!
10,0 Excellent
Cons: Great location, very clean, relaxed accommodation, friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent. We enjoyed our stay
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great ryokan experience at very very good price. Nice onsen, welcoming and homely atmosphere, comfortable futons, absolutely delicious dinner and breakfast. The dinner consisted of several courses, we were so full but had to try everything. Meals seemed to be japanese with some western twist. The location on a little hill above the town offers nice view. Although it was OK to walk from the station for us (it is actually pleasant walk through the interesting parts of the town which we enjoyed), you dont need to walk since there is free shuttle to and from the station. The location is in walking distance to all the sights and interesting places. Everything was just perfect!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Food was extremely good (although slightly westernized compared to other ryokan). Location is great. Free shuttle to and from the train station was very helpful.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Both breakfast and dinner were awesome (and so much food)! The staff was very accommodating and spoke great English, and the futons were very comfortable
Cons: It is a bit of a hike from the train station, but they offer shuttles and it's still within walking distance to Sanmachi-suji!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were nice and comfy. Everything was very clean. The onsen are perfect to relax and are switched every day, so you can enjoy both. The food was absolutely amazing, especially our Dinner at the first night! They just kept bringing more and more delicious various kinds of food!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful ryokan, nice host, amazing japanese experience and original japanese dinner and breakfast. 10/10!!!

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Really enjoyed the river and garden view from our ground floor room. This is a traditional home with amazing interiors and traditional decorations. We had a private toilet with sink even tough the booking said that toilet and bathroom were shared, so that was a welcome surprise. Enjoyed the large japanese style bath that you can use on your own. The elderly owners were very sweet and accommodating.
Cons: The windows could use some upgrade. As far as futon beds go, these were not the most comfortable ones.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staying at this ryokan was a most impressive experience in itself! The space in the building is very beautifully organized, the owners were extremely friendly and helpful, and the kaisekis we had were the most exquisite meals during our trip. If you want to relax for a couple of days and enjoy staying at a ryokan, this is an excellent choice!
Cons: It is not fare to complain with all the warmth we saw from the owners, but potential customers must be aware that staying at a traditional ryokan implies some rules, which you have to follow. For example, there is a curfew (from 11 p.m. onwards); the beds are made (by the staff) at the same place where the table is placed during the daytime. As a consequence, you have to sleep and stay awake according to the customary pattern of the house, not just your whim.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The food is excellent. Admittedly a lot, but excellent.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The food and the friendly hosts
7,9 Good
Pros: Beautiful old house, lovely staff with a funny old Japanese lady. Traditional decoration that made it unique. Very good place next to the river. Breakfast is very good, both the Japanese one (recommended) and the continental one.
Cons: To be honest, I barely slept the 2 nights I was there. It's not the inn fault, but it's just that the traditional Japanese bedding is not for me. It's like sleeping on hard floor. So if you think it's not for you, maybe choose a more common hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere. The location. The rooms. The Hosts. The meals.
Cons: No bathrooms in the rooms.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The proprietors were absolutely delightful. The location was excellent, as was the food. We were sad to leave, as we were made to feel so welcome.
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was one of the best places we stayed in Japan. The staff are amazing and make you feel at home. Definitely include japanese breakfast and dinner with your stay, you wont be disappointed (or hungry after!). Served a banquet to our rooms and everything was delicious. Onsen is fantastic, turns out we were the only guests for our 2 night stay so we could use it for as long as we needed which was great after a long hike around the area. Couldnt recommend this place more, made such a change from the city. Also very close to the morning market and the centre of Takayama
Cons: Loved everything
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese hospitality. The staff is extremely friendly and so dedicated to serving their guests and explaining Japanese traditions and cuisine. Very well located next to the river, within a 10 min walk radius to Takayama’s top attractions.
Cons: N/A

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just perfect. From the moment we reached the property it was like walking into heaven. The staff were so warm and friendly we truly felt like part of the family. The room itself is incredible, dinner is an amazing experience by itself and the taste is beyond description. The baths themselves are super relaxing and nice both the one in the room and the public one. Definitely worth the money and the visit. Would come again first chance I have.
Cons: The place itself is kind of hard to reach, especially if you don't rent a car, by car it took us around 40-50 min to reach it from takayama.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: A really pretty property nestled amongst the mountains . Excellent service from staff . Dinner was divine , one of the best meal I had during the trip . In addition to private onsen in each room there are also two public onsens. hidaji was thoughtful to allow the public onsens be reserved between 9.30pm till next morning . Had a wonderful and relaxing time . Highly recommended if you are looking for a authentic Japanese experience of sleeping on tatami , soaking in onsen , good food and great hospitality .
Cons: If you don’t drive , will need some effort to get there . But once you get the instructions from staff , it’s pretty easy . Takayama JR line and bus station is right next to one another. Takayama is a beautiful town worth visiting . I took early morning JR train from Nagoya to Takayama, spend the morning there and caught the 3 something bus arriving at Hidaji just before 5pm . Next morning , the staff will send you to the bus station after checkout to catch the 11.15am bus back to Takayama .
9,2 Excellent

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is one of the most stunning places I have ever stayed in. The breakfast and dinner were superb. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We loved everything about this place.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The most exception dinner, delectable dishes made with local ingredients. One of the best onsen ryokan dinners and breakfast I have had! The public onsen has a beautiful open view of the serene mountain surroundings, we never had to share with anyone and the ryokan was quiet and peaceful. The best service by the hotel staff.
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent and high quality.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Communications beforehand were great, when we arrived the staff met us outside and coordinated a wonderful greeting. Made us feel truly special and take care of. Everything we needed was there and not once did we feel uncomfortable. The food was spectacular for dinner and breakfast and the staff was very helpful in making sure we enjoyed the meals to the fullest. Staying here is definitely a highlight of our trip and would highly recommend to anyone.
Cons: There wasn't much to dislike about the stay. Would have liked a seat to relax outside by the private onsen but other than that it was pretty much perfect.

Pros: Wonderful experience! Very attentive staff and beautiful grounds.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Kei met us when the shuttle bus arrived at the ryokan. He checked us in and showed us the room and then served us two dinners and two breakfasts in our private dining room. He was great. The atmosphere of the ryokan was pleasant and seemed very authentic. The food was fantastic. We had no trouble communicating with anyone. The TV had only Japanese channels, so we got a break from TV.
Cons: It’s not within walking distance of the sights, but the shuttle bus is very efficient and we did not need to use a taxi.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast experience was very good. Overall we had a relaxed time at Hidatei Hanaougi.
Cons: No negative comments
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The private Onsen was delightful. The staff were exceptional.
Cons: The location was a bit out of the way, so we were unable to walk anywhere. However, a free shuttle bus to the station and nearby morning market was useful.
9,2 Excellent
Cons: Fantastic experience to do once (and more!) in a life. Relaxing place and wonderful hospitality. Madame Ochiai was all the time at our side and disposal. She has been so kind and gentle (moreover, she speeks a very good English). We slept in a futon bed and a japanese room. I will recommend this place to all my friends. GREAT STAFF.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic experience! The onsen water at Hidatei Hanaougi felt like silk. They have a small foot bath near the entrance of the Ryokan, public onsens for guests and you can also book a private onsen. The staff were very friendly and are there to help you in any way. Overall, we were very happy with our stay!

8,3 Excellent
Pros: A lovely different experience.
Cons: No garden
5,4 Okay
Pros: Staff who serve meal very attentive to detail. Pleasant.
Cons: Very pricey for a simple ryokan. Onsen was a bit disappointing. The day of check out the water and tea kettle was cleared before checking out.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Overall experience being in a ryokan, sleeping and eating in the same room, Location, friendly staff, very good and special dinner.
Cons: Being tall it was hard having meals sitting on the ground
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good location: on the main street and 15 minutes walking from the train and bus station. Nice decor, spacious room (big enough for three persons) and surprisingly comfortable futons. Very nice staff and even though their english is broken communication flows. We loved the dining experience! A bit expensive but worth it to embrace the local culture. You get to try several traditional dishes and yes, it is a loooot of food. They give you traditional kimonos so you can dress up.
7,1 Good
Pros: Is nice and original in a good position near the most interesting things on Takayama clean and the owners are very kind.
Cons: You wake up at 5 o’clock for the noise of the waitress that served the Japan breakfast in the room.. this annoying me a lot.
7,9 Good
Pros: Great experience. Very friendly staff.
Cons: Futons on the floor are not the most comfortable and the food was quite tricky for out Western pallet. Having said that, the experience was superb and we wouldn’t have missed it for anything.

Pros: Beautiful, large room, very cozy, nice onsen but not spring water.
10,0 Excellent

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic stay from the beginning to the end! Beautiful place with a very nice Onsen. Delicious food I will remember for a long time. Very warm and attentive welcome, thank you so much for such a nice stay and service .
Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The food for both dinner and breakfast was quite incredible - a Japanese feast. So much of it, in beautiful little bowls. The Onsen experience was good. The shuttle bus was very convenient. Initially we were disappointed not to eat in our room as expected, but in fact having a meal at a standard height table in our own private dining room was more comfortable.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a room with a private onsen. The room was very comfortable and the food was outstanding.
Cons: It’s a bit far from the historic district. Probably too far for most to walk, although there is a shuttle.
7,1 Good
Pros: Something different from the large hotels in the big cities! Friendly staff!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The food there (dinner and breakfast which was included) is amazing! That in itself was worth the price. We also had a massage chair in the room which we sat in for hours and they provided beautiful kimonos for us to lounge around in.
Cons: The shower needs to be higher, it only has a waist-high attachment which means we have to sit down to shower, not sure if its because its the traditional way to shower but the option of a higher attachment would be good.
7,9 Good
Pros: Food was good and varied. We tried things we never had before. Beds were very comfortable.
Cons: Dinner was a bit rushed considering it’s a degustation menu. A bit far from the town center
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very traditional ryokan, nicest experience ever. The private Onsen was just amazing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect! A bit expensive but worth it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful traditional Japanese ryokan. Once you have taken off your shoes at the entrance, you are in a tranquil Japanese oasis. I have never slept so well on a floor (futon on tatami mats to be precise). And having sliding screens to our own patio and private Onsen was such a treat. We also made use of the public Onsen baths (single sex) - so relaxing. As for the food, the first night we had a fabulous traditional kaiseki dinner of multiple Japanese courses, while the second night we again had a number of courses but the headline act was shabu shabu to cook ourselves over individual burners. Fantastic experience and when you factor in that it’s half board and Onsen is free to use, well worth it.
Cons: It was all lovely.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. Great onsen for ladies at the Kuna Relax.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and very helpful particularly the girl who served our meal in the room. We would also like to make a special mention to the chef as the meals were excellent and varied. Very interesting and beautifully presented.
Cons: All good
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is good here. Food is excellent, amazing variety during breakfast and dinner. I did not I had half board. Normally I don’t like to have dinner at the hotel but this time was incredible. One day the dinner was at the hotel and another day in a restaurant. I liked the one at the hotel most compared to the restaurant. The room is so beautiful, I got upgraded to the sister hotel which is right in front. I had city views. The room is living room during the day and bedroom during the night. The staff will setup the futon for you. If you don’t like hard mattress better you ask for an additional futon. The place is very peaceful and zen. The staff will do the impossible to make your stay perfect. They will greet every time to arrive and leave, they will explain all the ingredients of the food if you ask, they will give you insights of the city and many things more. If you ever come to Takayama, you must stay here and experience a ryokan stay. They have an Onsen as well which unfortunately did not have much tome to enjoy. Next time for sure. I wish 5 star hotels learn from ryokan hospitality.
Cons: Nothing!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staff, location and food. Great ryokan, beautiful view.
7,9 Good
Pros: The staff is very nice and helpful . The diners were very good. Good location
Cons: The confort of beds in ryokans is always limited

Pros: The breakfast and dinner were fabulous. The service was great. The staff of the hotel was very kind, patient, and managing to do whatever they can do. The location was wonderful. Just outside the central part of the busy area but only took a couple of minutes to get there.
Cons: The accommodation price might be a little bit high but, believe me, you will get beyond your expectation.

Pros: Very nice staff, great location just near the center, great dinner served in our room!

7,1 Good
Pros: Really nice quiet location, trees view from the window. Really nice hida beef dinner, good and big meals (breakfast and dinner), even though not thoroughly japanese in style. Really friendly and helpful staff. Clean toilet and bathroom.
Cons: Room way too hot and dry! And couldn't regulate the temperature by ourselves. Was stupid of me not to ask about it, but the first night we had temperature of 20 degrees C, the second night was 22 degrees!!! Had to open the window to cool off a bit, but there were no mosquito net so we were afraid of insects coming in.. I hope that upon request they can lower the temperature.. because we were really in an oven! Really nice stay but felt a bit overpriced overall, probably due to the Takayama spring festival that was going on during our stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: + Friendly and helpful host family + Pension with a lot charm + Always a shuttle Service available (if required) + located little outside of the center
Cons: not really to complain, you need to keep in mind that it is 4 km from the train station, but the shuttle service works perfectly

Pros: Very friendly staff actively helping solving problems. Very high quality of food in the restaurant, very tastefull. Rooms fully up to expectations.

Pros: Its a bit far away from Takayama like an hour's drive but we love the seclusion of the place. So it really depends on whether you have a car and like to be up in the mountains, which we love.
Cons: Nothing much. We enjoyed the place and surrounding. Staff didn't speak much English but it was fine with us. All part of the whole Japanese Culture experience we got. With hand gestures and guess works, we all managed to get what we requested for :)

Pros: Peaceful location in the mountains. Good onsen facilities (the mixed ones are across the road). The traditional food is an experience! There is nothing around the hotel (except other hotels) so don't expect to do anything other than relax and go to the onsen. You can get a bus to the ropeway up the road if you wish (best on a clear day).
Cons: The hotel looks grim from the outside - as soon as you're inside its great!

Pros: Location Price
Cons: not sure if it’s normal, check in at 3 pm, a little bit inconvince
9,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a bargain budget option. We only stayed one night in a traditional Japanese room without bathroom and were happy with our stay. The room was traditional and clean but we didn't spend any time there. The Inn is very charming, the common area is beautifully decorated with lots of books and magazine you can browse through while helping yourself to some tea or coffee. The location is great too, close to the train station and the main attractions of the town.
Cons: Given the room rate, I have nothing to complain about.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The common room was nice. Helpful staff. Fresh towels every day. Close to the station and morning market, old city. We had a great time.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and the Japanese room was very comfortable. We liked the common area where you could have tea and meet with other guests. Also having a small kitchen is a plus. The location was excellent too. We were able to walk to most tourist attractions. Also there were various nearby bike rentals that we took advantage off. I would definitely stay here again.
Cons: There was a strange odor from the strowmatt. I think they usually smell but it would be nice if they could spray an odor neutralizer for guests that aren't used to it. Other than that it was a great place to stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It's very well located.
Cons: We stayed two nights and they didn't clean the bathroom and change the towels.

Pros: Full of Japanese character and. Artifacts

Pros: Got a very big family room, with lots of space for all 4 of us and additional sitting space. Very good value for money Very friendly stuff, offered help with the surrounding Location is great to explore Takayama old part and the morning market on foot. Car parking space in front of the hotel
Cons: Room was bit dusty, and stuffy
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great and charming location, just around the corner from a small group of restaurants with a lot of character (including a great gyoza bar). Fresh towels were provided every day which we really appreciated. Good sized room with enough space for both of our suitcases to be open, still leaving plenty of comfortable moving space. Mattresses were also substantial, thick and comfortable.
Cons: Only stairs available, no elevator. If you're on the top floor, carrying your suitcases up and down can be challenging!

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Close to the train station, 7/11, restaurants, etc. Ten minutes walk to the main sites.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean with all facilities for what is a business hotel. The big bonus was the roof top onsen (separate women’s and men’s) with an outside bath.
Cons: Even though I was on anon smoking floor you could still smell strongly tobacco in the corridors and especially on the onsen floor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is only a few minutes walk from the train station and was close to everything , including the markets, many, many restaurants, and the walking tours around this small city. There are computers in the lobby on which you can search for restaurants in the area in which you might be interested. Turns out this was what to do because the first night we wandered around for ages before finding a restaurant that was open! And it was a Saturday night, so I'm not sure why so many were closed. The second night we went out armed with a few names of restaurants that showed they were open on the computer and easily found the first on our list which turned out to be a great choice. Also, the Sunday that we were there ,there was a food festival which was wonderful. We ate breakfast and lunch from the food stands. There were many, many delicious options.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location between train station and main attractions. The included rooftop onsen is a real winner. Be sure to try the outdoor bath if weather permits. Helpful staff. Comfortable room and good bathroom.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Small rooms (as usual in Japan), with all that is necessary appliances. Little space is left for your own stuff, but well, space is limited. Friendly staff that speak some English, hard mattresses, good airco. The bathroom is a cabin. There is a public bath in the top floor where you can be in hot water outdoors under the sky. Public baths are separated for men and women, obviously. Breakfast (USD12) is quite good and varied for both Japanese and Western standards, although they could have some fresh fruits. Drinks and ice vending machines in several floors. There is one compliment I have to give this hotel: Thanks for letting me in the room 30 minutes before check-in time! This is normally 100% inflexible in Japanese hotels and this one was generous with me after 24 hours travelling.
Cons: The quilt in the bed is prepared for the toughest days of winter and it is not removed during the 30+ degrees of summer!
7,0 Good
Pros: The spa was good.
Cons: Having just one chair in the room.
7,9 Good
Pros: Great location, nice staff, clean and had all the usual hotel toiletries for Japan.
Cons: The air conditioning was quite loud and blew quite hard for me. The rooms are smallish but normal for a lot of Japanese hotels.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Hotel roof spa was especially pretty and pleasant. Hotel breakfast was excellent. Enjoyed chatting with other travelers. Everyone was very nice at Hotel Spa Alpina Hida Takayama hotel.
Cons: Spartan rooms need better towels. Alarm clock in next door room went off for two mornings in a row at 3:30 a.m.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the train and bus station, great free spa facilities
Cons: small room, very basic bathroom
5,8 Okay
Pros: Nothing
Cons: I have paid 18000 Yen 1 night for a hole room. The pillow was very hard, unconfortable. 1 stairs was between of the room and the bathroom. A waterfall was In the wall the livelong night. The breakfast was very poor. This is a Valueless hotel.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views
Cons: Breakfast
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Splendid location in a pristine environment. Lovely onsen with foot bath outside the hotel. Our room was very comfortable, with bath tub and tatami area for beds. There is free ramen from 9pm, which can be a 'life-saver' for guests with no dinner plans included. Plus delicious bottles of milk around the onsen at night. Some nights in Hirayu, eating options are really limited.
Cons: Would be good if the hotel has laundry service or coin-operated washing machine and dryer. We stayed 3 nights and had to hand wash clothes which took a while to dry.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The baths were wonderful and the possibility of booking of private outside bathing was most appreciated. We were also really glad of the shuttle bus to Kamikochi. An unexpected and very nice touch was the complementary coffee and other drinks which could be consumed in very nice settlings, along with noodles for people needing a snack later in the evening. It was a treat to be able to choose a yukatta and obi and wear it in the ryokan.
Cons: We were rushed through dinner, even though there was no 3rd sitting following ours. We felt disappointed about this in such a high-class and therefore pricey establishment.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The variety of bath options is the best. Free milk, yogurt, coffee, tea and ramen is a plus.
Cons: Nothing
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Through booing.com
Cons: Everything was good except it was on a pricey side

Cons: Some rooms are not accessible by elevators

Cons: Employees are extremely nice, but some times communication in english is difficult.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and spoke very good English. The absolute highlight is the local mobile phone you can use to find your way through the City. This is a great value for those who do not have a contract which does include Japan.
Cons: All perfect
7,5 Good
Pros: This hotel is in a great location, only a two minute walk from the train station. There are lots of shops and restaurants just steps away. There are really not any luxury hotels in the area, so we made the BW work. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. The highlight was a fantastic massage chair in the room!
Cons: The bathrooms were very dated and smelled a bit musty.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Room size, cleanliness, location and coffee machine in my room. Breakfast was good
Cons: Came as a family of 4 and did ask if we could fit in one room but was told too tight! When we arrived our room had 2 king doubles and a single. We could of fit comfortably enough at my expence or could of placed me in a connecting roim as I slept in a room across the hall. Never the less enjoyed ouf stay Marco
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located 3 min from the station. Good restaurant and it was the first hotel in Japan with friendly staff (in Japan most of the people are unpolite)
Cons: Smell of smoking
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, close to the bus and train station but also to the historical city centre which make it a great basis for your visits. It is a modern building with big rooms and breakfast was really good.

7,0 Good
Pros: The Hotel is really good, yet I think it is a bit too expensive for what it really is. The room was clean, the food was good but I was missing that little extra to match the price. But otherwise great location, I really enjoyed the family onsen and the city is just incredible.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: I will always cherish the memories of sitting in the rotenburo (outdoor onsen) and feeling the rain on me, or seeing the sunrise over the Nothern Alps in the same location and wonder how nice it should feel when snowing.
7,1 Good
Pros: While the hotel is somewhat outdated (furniture and design), the possibility to use the private onsen for 30 min is a great advantage. Located on teh top floor, they offer enough privacy with a city view.... The hotel is probably as close as one can get to a ryoka, while being at a hotel (tatami all over the hotel, so everyone walks around barefooted/wearing socks). Additionally, teh hotel is very close to the station.
Cons: The furniture and rooms need some TLC and would ideally be a little bigger.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Takayam Ouan far exceeded our expectations. The onsen was incredibly beautiful with a view out over the mountains. Everything about our stay was wonderful.
7,0 Good
Pros: Close to the JR station. Maybe the most convenient hot spring hotel in Takayama. The staff is helpful although it is crowded at the front desk. The food is delicious although it is a buffet.
Cons: Comparing to other SPA hotels I had stayed in, this hotel is more like an assembly line. It has every element which is necessary for an SPA hotel, but the experience is less. For example, the dinner is BBQ added with a buffet. I understand it is because there are too many visitors and a buffet is the best choice for quality control. But when a SPA hotel only has standard SPA service and buffet menu, it will be similar to other ordinary hotels. In addition, the Japanese style room is a mattress on the floor, which also reflects the "assembly line" character. I understand it is a hard balance because Takayama is so popular now.
6,3 Good
Pros: 3 prívate Onsens to experience the Japanese baths without having to go to a mass public one.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The entrance suggested a traditional hotel
Cons: Staff were officious especially at Meal time The meals were not traditional although they said would be. A buffet style military operation with many people in and out not a nice experience. Rooms were poorly laid out. Not really a traditional experience. Private onsen too small to enjoy.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: the food was great especially the evening meals the bento boxes were a great way to sample new food, the buffets were amazing the hotel staff were lovely very friendly they went out of their way to chat and were very helpful when we needed information or advice free laundry washing
Cons: the beds could have been a bit more comfy
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The food for both dinner and breakfast are so good quality and variety. Private Onsen are awesome. Refreshing drink after onsen are perfect. Free welcome drink (hot/cold tea/coffee), wifi, ramen at night, socks, and origami. Minimarts are nearby.
Cons: Most staff are very awesome but only few of them are not quit good enough. The dining restaurant seem to be too small to fit all guests as we have to wait for seating for breakfast. Hotel should provide free parking as we checked in.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel provided a great taste of traditional Japanese accommodation. The onset and breakfast were outstanding .
Cons: Bed was a little low for old creaking knee joints but was part of the traditional experience.

5,5 Okay
Cons: We stayed on a Friday night and paid Yen 10,800 and stayed on Saturday night and paid twice as much ie Yen 21,600. Both nights it was my wife and I. I think it is unacceptable to charge double the price for a Saturday night over Friday night. Saturday was not a Public Holiday. I discussed this with the staff and also their Manager. They refused to make any reduction to the Saturday night price. Very disappointing experience. In Tokyo there was no surcharge for Saturday night.
7,5 Good
Pros: Onsen was excellent
Cons: Room was uncomfortable, old fashioned, no modern electrical charging points, horrible little bathroom with sound of dripping water, hardest bed I ever slept in. Taxes were supposed to be included but they charged us Onsen tax of 600 yen.

Cons: Smell cigarettes in the room. Not good for children. Facility a little bit old.

Pros: Location Cleanliness Price
Cons: Hard beds
8,0 Excellent
Pros: I did worry a bit when I read the latest reviews on the hotel as they were so negative unlike when we booked. I had taken a tip from another traveller about checking the square meter of the room so opted for the largest. This provided more than enough space and was in line with other hotels in Japan. The bed was firm but comfortable and the pillows soft on one side and harder on the other. The bathroom was a capsule type again similar to other hotels in Japan. We received a warm welcome by the staff when we arrived ahead of booking in time and had our luggage stowed until we returned. Good location for all the spots and easy to reach from the station.
Cons: Whilst the buffet had a wide variety of fresh food, it would have been good to have had some fresh fruit.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, right across the street from the bus terminal and the train station

Cons: The step from bathroom to sitting which is potentially dangerous for elderly
