Pros: I loved the staff here. They were so friendly and welcoming. The grounds were unreal, and the hiking trails are a must! The rooms had a beautiful view as well!
Cons: In the rooms we had a lot of bugs, but other than that they were great. (Mostly rows of ants in the bathroom).
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed a brief visit to Xandari. Beautiful views, wonderful comfortable rooms and facilities - we loved the colorful design and the "outdoor" showers in our rooms were awesome. Great food and friendly staff. The hike to waterfalls on the property was really nice too - good exercise, nice scenery.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly people Wonderfull breakfast
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property, grounds, view, and service were all outstanding. We only stayed one night on the tail end of our trip but I wish we had a few more days there!
Cons: We ate one dinner aside from the complimentary breakfast. The restaurant is expensive and while the food presentation was fun and creative, the quality was just mediocre .
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing 'resort' type setting, very relaxed, pool was great as well as the trail walks to the waterfalls. Good food (a little pricey). The staff could not have been more helpful. It's a little trek from the airport/any amenities but worth it for a final relaxation of a holiday or the first sample of CR. Will
Cons: There is very little outside the hotel doors (without a major walk on a dodgy road or paying for a taxi) so you are restrained to the hotel grounds. Hefty uphill trek to the restaurant!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location was unbelievable. 40+ acres of landscaped grounds (including a waterfall), amazing views of the valley, and 3 pools. Their staff is so kind and accommodating and made the meals fun. Breakfast was a great variety and I appreciated the drink on arrival. It's really a beautiful place that feels eco conscious and celebrates the vibrancy of Costa Rican culture and environment. Didn't get to experience the spa, but it looked beautiful and the services offered seemed unique to Costa Rica.
Cons: The dinner prices were pretty steep. The food was delicious generally but my shrimp was a little overcooked and I would have like to see more authentic Costa Rican dishes on the menu. I barely noticed though because the view was so impressive.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was basic and healthy, the location was stunning and the grounds and facilities were amazing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Grounds are gorgeous, staff friendly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The rooms and bathrooms were spacious. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The pools and hot springs were well maintained and relaxing.
Cons: The buffet style dinner was over-priced and the food was not that good.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Birds, staff, great rooms
Cons: Food but pricey

Pros: The breakfast bread was delicious! Jose and Zinnia were kind and helpful...when we found out dinner was not being served, Jose offered to bring roasted chicken to our room...above and beyond...
Cons: The refrigerator could have been turned on prior to arrival ... and the rotting mangoes in the parking could have been pushed aside ...made it a bit difficult to roll bags...

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room. Excellent breakfast and beautiful gardens
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality, food, and accommodations are exceptional. My only regret is we couldn't stay longer. The advice we were given was spot on and the dinner was fantastic. We were traveling with a teen and this is our 13th trip to Latin America. The balance between privacy and friendliness provided by the hosts was perfect. This is one of the few places I have ever bothered to leave written comments for, but it is a real gem and I want to spread the word.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Berni, Nhi and their team are fabulous hosts who made us feel very welcome. The orchids and gardens are gorgeous and we especially loved playing ‘ball’ with Bandito and Ziva.

Pros: The view from the lodge is absolutely stunning. Nice fireplace. Lodge gives u very homely feeling . Food was excellent and the common area was very welcoming. Make sure to spend time by the fireplace and enjoy the view.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Mathew and Leah's Lodge. The view from the rooms is just stunning. Breakfast is included and you should also try dinner in the evening. Leah will prepare some delicious meals for you. You will love the authentic fire place, it's cosy and warm while you can enjoy the magnificent view over the valley. The lodge is a perfect place to stay if you're going to visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens and visit the Póas volcano. Mathew informs you on the visibility on top of the Póas crater. He can also arrange entrance tickets to the Volcano park (you need to book online in advanc!). We sure recommanded a stay at the lodge!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Matthew and Leah were lovely hosts, very welcoming. Leah is a great cook as well. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, try the Costa Rican dishes. Amazing views and really close to the volcano.
Cons: Nothing.
7,9 Good
Pros: Poas Lodge is a cozy place, practically furnished and clean. Very hospitable "GrazyGringos" Matthew & Leah, the Texan Hambuger diner we can only recommend. If you want to visit Vulcano Poas we can only recommend this lodge, with a great view of the San Jose plain. Matthew gave us some very useful tips for getting to Vulcano Poas, which we were able to enjoy with great weather. Gladly again
7,5 Good
Pros: Fantastic view. Owners give you a warm welcome and holiday feeling. Nice food/menu. Close to NP
Cons: When arriving at the Poas the building looks a bit sad. Rooms are somewhat old-fashioned.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The view is amazing! The couple who run it are very attentive and the food was fantastic. We were travelling as a couple and only stayed the one night but would happily have stayed longer.
Cons: Perhaps the bathrooms could use a little spruce up but the couple who run it have only been there for 5 months so I imagine this is on their to do list.

Pros: Close to airport
Cons: Staff were pretty rude and unhelpful. They couldn’t find our booking. The beds were massively uncomfortable

Cons: No Breakfast available for early flight, for Gluten free guests.
10,0 Excellent

Cons: The website shows a swimming pool which we were looking to use, but this closed until next year due to building works

Pros: It was close to the airport and the free airport shuttle at all hours of the day and night was extremely convenient. The front desk had complementary bathroom items if needed, which was also helpful.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was welcoming and helpful. Hotel grounds include an adjacent nature trail where we had a very pleasant evening walk. Restaurant food was surprisingly good. Overall a great stay!
Cons: Only surprise was lack of air conditioning, but that was really no problem at all since the temperature dipped into the 60’s at night.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: location to San Jose was great, but you definitely need a car to get around to the different activities. Very easy to find with a car. Close to DOKA, which is a must!
Cons: The room was close to the restaurant and the pool, so very noisy at night and in the morning. I would ask for a room away from the pool.

Pros: The whole staff was so friendly and Luis, our waiter was hilarious. Great breakfast, great view and very clean.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The name says it all...there are great views from this sweet hotel. The grounds are beautiful and offer a lush walk along the Coffee Trail. Rooms are comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful. Not a bad drive from the airport and the free shuttle is a nice option.
Cons: Wish we would have stayed an extra day.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic staff who went above and beyond. Beautiful location close enough to the airport and city but far enough away to enjoy the surrounding mountains
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The hotel is not in a good neighborhood. You can't walk anywhere.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, friendly staff
Cons: Limited activity options
7,9 Good
Pros: Hotel Buena Vista is a nice place to stay for airport arrivals/departures. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff are incredibly friendly. The location is remote and there is no where to walk around nor any shops nearby so you are slightly forced to remain on the hotel premises but they have a bar, restaurant and pool with sun loungers so that's no hardship. If you have a car, you can easily get around and visit more places.
Cons: The location is a little remote with nothing within walking distance. Whilst the hotel was lovely, I feel it was slightly overpriced and catered for the richer American tourist. As a result you can find better value places but for ease and comfort I cannot fault the place.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Buena Vista is hidden gem tucked up in the hills of Alajuela. It is only 20 minutes from the airport and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They provide a free airport shuttle and even picked us up from the airport after returning via bus from the beach. The property if beautiful and offers a great view of the city. Definitely recommend for a comfortable, quiet stay on either end of a Costa Rica adventure.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice room
Cons: Overlooked pool which opened at 7 am!!!!! Kids swimming and chattering tooo early

Pros: I liked the location, free airport shuttle. Warm welcome at check in. Comfortable room.
Cons: Check out was exactly the opposite of the check in welcoming feeling. Woman handed me the receipt, said nothing, and I left. Not a word like Thanks or bye. Just unusually cold especially since it was the exact opposite of nice woman at check in..

Cons: No Concerns
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The service was impeccable. Dinner at the restaurant was one of the best we had on our trip. Breakfast was also very good. They made arrangements for us to shuttle to the airport, making that very easy for us.
Cons: One of the rooms had a leaky faucet.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We only stayed one night for a post-flight rest so the airport shuttle was particularly useful as was the location. Really helpful staff & good facilities - food was nice. The pool area is lovely.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, the staff makes you feel like they are family. Staff is professional and friendly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were beyond excellent!
Cons: The noise of the airport of jets flying over.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: There's a restaurant that has the feel of a soda on site. Rooms are comfy and staff is very attentive. Perfect spot if you need a place near airport but don't want to stay in an American chain hotel that lacks character.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient complimentary pick up from the airport - hopped on the shuttle and it was very easy. Grounds are really well maintained and fun to explore. Nice outdoor seating and great breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel was comfortable and easy to access from the airport and or day trips around san jose.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We got to this place very late (around 12:30 am) on our first night in Costa Rica. It seemed to be a risky neigborhood, but when we got there, it was beautiful with a great parking area. There was someone there to greet us even though it was very late and made sure we were comfortable. The next morning (our first day in Costa Rica), we got up early and walked around the pool and the yard. We were in the pool before 7 am and the kids had a wonderful time (we did too). The breakfast was excellent (something for everyone) and we would have stayed longer!
Cons: By the beautiful swimming pool, there was a hottub, but no hot water in it! I just found this a little bizarre. There seems to be little else available around the hotel, in the neigborhood, but this might also be from a lack of time on our part to explore.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice small hotel with very nice, clean, comfortable rooms surrounded by dense landscaping that makes you feel like you're in the forest rather than in a residential neighborhood next to the airport. We took advantage of the pool and enjoyed that. Restaurant was nothing particularly special but had a good selection of well-presented, tasty food. Staff were very helpful. Since we had an early flight we couldn't take advantage of their breakfast, so they arranged for a bagged breakfast to go that we picked up before leaving. They also arranged for a taxi driver who arrived promptly at 4:30 am as requested.
Cons: No complaints - nice place for an overnight before a flight.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: All interactions with staff were extremely pleasant. The location is close to the airport and the property is secluded, quiet and actually very beautiful. The food at the restaurant was also very good.
Cons: none
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Such good food. Very accommodating and friendly staff. We felt so at home here. Perfect stop off before or after exploring Costa Rica.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very secure location. Alajuela and San Jose are a bit crowded and sketchy. This is is a suburb of Alajuela. We state there the night before we returned to the United States. It's close to the airport and downtown but in a safe and quiet spot that is not too remote. The staff is really warm and helpful. Great experience. Free airport shuttle as well.
Cons: no complaints

Pros: Grounds and pool area was fabulous. Great location for airport and quiet. Rooms were very nice but...

Pros: The breakfast outside was lovely and delicious. This was our first night in Costa Rica and woman at the front desk was very helpful in answering our questions about how to get around and the weather etc. Great first night's stay!
Cons: The front desk staff isn't there at night, so make sure you tell them ahead of time when you will arrive so the guard will be ready to check you in. It would have been nice to have known that ahead of time, but it was still a smooth checkin and the guard was very kind.

We stayed there for 2 night and we felt at home. We chose to have dinner there and it was delicious - they made us German meatballs with sauce, rice and salad. The kids loved to pat the dog and the cat. There was also a pool with a waterfall, but we didn't try it. It’s a perfect spot to stay close to the airport and to many attractions.

Alan who did everything - office and restaurant and was so helpful. Clifford the cat. Soda in Vara Blanca village. ( turn left at the t junction and it's first on right)
Cons: The slogans about god and the emoji faces started to creep us out a bit. We have our own spiritual beliefs about the nature of reality and how it's created. Each to their own and we don't expect everyone to agree with us but we could have done with less proselytising.

Pros: We stayed in the chalet, looks like a summer home in a small farm, a little bit off the property. Grounds were really beautiful, great to be able to walk about the grounds.. The restaurant was great. It is near la Paz and about 25 min to Poas by car. Alan was very accommodation and helped us arrange transport with a driver, Alex, who picked us up from the airport the first night and then to hotel, and then took us to Poas and then La Paz, and the to Fortuna, to our next hotel the next day. We got to see the Poas crater!

Pros: Stunning gardens and good walking trail. Very close to La Paz Waterfall Gardens without paying Peace Lodge prices. Staff kind and helpful.
Cons: Woke up in the night when the guard was making his rounds and shining his flashlight outside near our room. Was not sure if it was an intruder so a bit unnerving.

7,1 Good
Pros: Nice pool, good breakfast (in fact, excellent gallo pinto!)
Cons: We looked for the gym but didn’t find it. Not sure it exists. The entire spa area seemed a bit deserted (off season).
7,5 Good
Cons: Waiter was not very attentive at all seatings. Not all food items available on request. No flexibility. We don’t do it. No flex.
7,9 Good
Pros: A real gem. I always feel very relaxed here.
Cons: No gym anymore and property is under utilized.
7,1 Good
Pros: Location was awesome, breakfast was nice, property was quiet...everyone was nice!! This property was grand in it's day!!
Cons: I went to the Spa to get a much needed manicure, and although I appreciate the youg lady that did the manicure; she needs additional training. I asked several times if she had ever removed gel nail polish or worked with gel, her reply each time was yes. The conditions are unsanitary at best. She nearly destroyed 3 nails before I forced her to do it the correct way. She still tried removing before they were ready. Gel nails have to be removed with acetone and aluminum and carefully; it was as though she didn't want to use her product (acetone, aluminum) and the foil was used. She was so heavy handed with my cuticles that she caused 3 nail beds to bleed and I was afraid of infection; since it was very obvious she does not sterilize her tools. My advice...don't market a building as a "Spa" and then hire untrained people to take care of the clients. She either has never attended formal training ,or there is no oversight. Either way, I do not recommend getting a manicure or pedicure in the "Spa" , it is not enjoyable or relaxing ,and you are at risk of nail health.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the restaurant was wonderful. Sitting in the morning and watching and listening to the birds was special. And when raining, it was even better. The grounds were beautiful.
Cons: On our last evening for dinner and in the morning for breakfast the waiter was very bad. We had to search him out for our meal order and check and we were the only ones there. Did not bring us what we ordered for breakfast.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: They accommodated our very late check in. The rooms were huge and clean. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. The grounds were very nice. The staff was great. Each time I emailed, before the trip, I got a very quick response.
Cons: No hot water for the shower. It was hot for a few seconds, then cold for the rest.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Close to airport
Cons: Rooms need renovation. Beds did not feel fresh and may have bed bugs. Hallways were dark and creepy
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds, clean rooms, comfortable beds, air conditioning in each room, lovely patios on our rooms. Room service was quick and delicious. Located directly across the street from an animal rescue center.
Cons: Some squealing pipes and a couple loose fixtures but nothing critical.

Pros: Hidden gem. Truly a sanctuary close to the airport and away from the hustle and bustle. The hot tub, sauna and Hammam are definitely the highlights. I also love the healthy food with plenty of plant based options.
Cons: Slightly overpriced.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good and special location if you don't want to be in San Jose, great atmosphere as it is small and intimate and very beautiful. Helpful team that will help you to arrange or find anything you need. It was exactly what we needrd upon landing in order to escape the city life, feel the nature and to start a relaxed holiday.
7,1 Good
Pros: Stunning view, Very calm place, beautiful rooms with elegant design.
Cons: The concept of "healing", very small portions of food (I asked for a second glas of juice- Sorry, not possible!), two tiny slices of bread with three small pieces of fruits and coffee with goat milk- thats the healing breakfast . There was no staff around... felt a little bit like on an other planet, but in a very strange way. The were no curtains at the window in the bathroom - felt little bit nudistic. The pool was not very clean und the jacuzzi was icecold - healing icecold?

Pros: Perfect hotel for the money. We had three rooms, all with two queen beds for only $92 per room. The staff was exceptionally friendly, the pool and gardens are nice, and the restaurant was one of the best meals throughout our trip. Airport shuttle was on time even with our 3:30am pickup.
Cons: The shower has soap/shampoo and conditioner (I think) attached to the wall. I'll probably avoid the "conditioner" if I stay again.

Pros: Ideally located for the airport and the price included a shuttle bus to the airport. Very comfortable beds. Bathroom rather tired - could do with replacing. Helpful staff.
Cons: The only problem we had was that it was Mothers' Day and there was a party to celebrate. The singer was sooooo loud. Our bedroom was one of the furthest away from the restaurant, but we were still drowned out by him. Although the music stopped at 10pm, which is reasonable in anybody's book, we had to get up at 3am and had hoped for an early night.

Pros: This is a great place to stay. The property is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. Accommodations were very clean. Excellent location near the airport. Pros: Surprisingly good breakfast, especially considering the price of the room. So much value in Costa Rica if you stay with the local businesses! Rooms were basic, but very clean, and the AC worked really well. The grounds within the hotel were nice.
