10,0 Excellent
Pros: The setting of this small hotel is charming with individual cottages and porches. Lovely botanical type garden with stone walkways and a stepped down approach to the casitas in the garden. The owners work very hard to provide everything you might need to be comfortable. We loved the leisurely breakfasts on the veranda with the great coffee and blooming orchids. Very peaceful setting. Certainly the best lodging we found in the San Jose area. Definitely recommend.
Cons: More food at breakfast.

Pros: The flexibility as we were allowed late check out, the lovely garden, the spacious accommodation, the comfortable beds, the nice receptionist

Cons: Everything was great for our stay. Nothing was out of place or missing.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, beautiful views, staff was incredibly helpful
Cons: The bed was squeaky, it played into the whole, "rustic" experience, but could be improved, and I believe the owners are aware of this.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The view is amazing! The couple who run it are very attentive and the food was fantastic. We were travelling as a couple and only stayed the one night but would happily have stayed longer.
Cons: Perhaps the bathrooms could use a little spruce up but the couple who run it have only been there for 5 months so I imagine this is on their to do list.

Pros: The staff here are so incredibly kind and helpful. During breakfast my glasses broke, with a vital screw disappearing. Two members of staff were helping me search for the screw on the floor and when it could not be found, one staff member who was heading to town offered to stop by an optician on the way to get it fixed. A couple of hours later he returned with my glasses repaired. I cannot thank them enough!

Pros: The staff were exceptionally welcoming. We had had a bad landing and had to look after a terrified cat who had soiled her cage and they were very understanding about this. The place is very tranquil which we badly needed after travelling and the room very pleasant. Wish we could have stayed another day to rest up.
Cons: I can't think of anything. The location might not work for people who have stuff to do in Alajuela and the cab from the airport is more than for an in-town hotel but it served our purposes.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Really sweet place - lovely hummingbird garden, nice clean rooms, friendly hosts
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good location, very nice room, clean, comfortable beds, decent breakfast
Cons: Rooms are not connected directly with restaurant or reception. You have to walk down and around to reach them, it’s dark at night and if it rains slippery. Also the shower in room was not very powerful.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: So beautiful. The rooms for the most part were lovely. The walls were a bit thin so be prepared to hear your neighbors.
Cons: N/A
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautiful location where staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Gardens around main reception/restaurant are lovely. Breakfasts are tasty and plentiful. Accommodation is basic but clean. Staff shuttled us back and forth from chalet to restaurant whenever we needed and offered whatever tours or transport you would want in the area, including arranging our airport pick up. Lovely area with scenic drives, waterfall gardens, Poas volcano etc
Cons: The chalet is very far from the restaurant/anything - not walkable. Whilst the staff happily shuttled us back and forth until our rental car arrived we initially felt isolated. Once we got the hang of it it was fine but it would have been better if this was made very clear at the time of booking so we could be prepared. e.g. On our first night/morning we were stuck in the chalet with no bottled water, milk, food etc until the arranged pick up for breakfast at 9am and due to jetlag and with a child in our group we were up early. It isn’t a criticism of the lodge regarding the set up, more that we just needed to know in advance what the situation would be.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy room and great service. Staff is so friendly!!
5,0 Okay
Cons: I don’t like room with mildew, and I got one

7,5 Good
Pros: The location, next to the airport, is perfect when you have just arrived or about to leave via SJO airport. The swimming pool is nice when you want to cover some time.
Cons: The noise of the airplanes, which makes sense because you are next to an airport, may bother you and the food in the restaurant is not that special.

Pros: Great location. Nice little place to stay outside the city. Don’t get suckered into the typical holiday inn stuff. Very worthwhile if it’s only for the night.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with a small patio, and the pool was very generous and refreshing. The grounds are lovely and well-maintained. The pool chairs were comfortable, and the breakfast was good - eggs cooked to order. The sausage looked more like a hotdog, but the pastries were good, as was the rice and beans, and the fruit was lovely. I would have liked some plain yogurt. The restaurant was good - loved the salmon carpaccio. This was a very pleasant and relaxing retreat.
Cons: The gym was a bit dusty but someone did come in to clean it.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: They accommodated our very late check in. The rooms were huge and clean. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. The grounds were very nice. The staff was great. Each time I emailed, before the trip, I got a very quick response.
Cons: No hot water for the shower. It was hot for a few seconds, then cold for the rest.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Maybe you guys can fill with beverages or water in the room
4,2 Okay
Pros: Great staff
Cons: Very old, need complex upgrade, not clean
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We just stayed one night after flying to Costa Rica. It was convenient to the airport but not in the concrete surroundings where airport hotels are located. The surrounding are lush and beautiful. We enjoyed bird watching from the restaurant and as we relaxed by the pool. The property is large and has a spacious and relaxing atmosphere. It was a lovely first night in CR.
Cons: It was not near any restaurants so had to eat in the on site restaurant which we found to be a little expensive (although AMAZING chicken lasagnia).
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds, clean rooms, comfortable beds, air conditioning in each room, lovely patios on our rooms. Room service was quick and delicious. Located directly across the street from an animal rescue center.
Cons: Some squealing pipes and a couple loose fixtures but nothing critical.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds are beautiful. The staff is good. Very accommodating. Service outstanding. HUGE POOL, large rooms and don't forget it has a spa to get a massage after a long vacation hiking.
Cons: It is a little run down . Needs a little upgrade. Needs AC in bedroom. AC was in living room.

7,7 Good
Pros: Perfect hotel for the money. We had three rooms, all with two queen beds for only $92 per room. The staff was exceptionally friendly, the pool and gardens are nice, and the restaurant was one of the best meals throughout our trip. Airport shuttle was on time even with our 3:30am pickup.
Cons: The shower has soap/shampoo and conditioner (I think) attached to the wall. I'll probably avoid the "conditioner" if I stay again.

Pros: This no frills hotel had everything we needed. The owners were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Perfect place to stay after flying in late to San Jose. Secure and comfortable for our family of 3. The owner walked us to our car and made sure we got out safely onto the busy road.
Cons: There weren’t any problems but the accommodations are modest by US standards.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Centrally located from the airport and next door to the best car-hire company. Couldnt have wanted for anything, and we also had a "garden room". Excellent
7,0 Good
Pros: Room was comfortable and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: The breakfast could have been better as it was very basic. There room was also basic. It was fine for one night.

Pros: It was just what I needed coming from the jungle before moving on to my destination

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Carlos who manages the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. He made sure we had taxis for arrival and departure. He was very courteous. Would stay there again when I need a hotel close the airport
Cons: The staff Carlos at the front desk and the lovely lady who made us breakfast
9,0 Excellent
Pros: This was the cutest little hotel and the staff was absolutely fantastic, so fun and friendly to be around in the little restaurant/bar area. My room was exceptionally clean and the bed and linens made for a fantastic sleep. Everything worked perfectly, Didn't get to use the pool or explore the area due to heavy rains but it was still a great stay. I would definitely go back and recommend this place for the overall value. An added bonus was that the wake up call and the free shuttle were 100% punctual.......right down to the minute, which was a nice surprise as this often hasn't happened in my travels at other hotels. The driver even made me a coffee at 3:30 a.m. Great little hotel and will return again!!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was friendly and very accommodating, location close to airport and lived airport shuttle.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Small, super nice staff, very good. Pizza .. hit the spot after a long flight. It's 2 doors down from the Adobe car rental place. So I saved a day of car rental by not renting on arrival, staying here and walking over to pick up the car. The staff even helped me carry my bags over to the car.
Cons: One small concern. I stayed in room #10, which is just off the lobby. It's a small internal room (internal in that there is a door but no window). It was clean and the bathroom also clean but when I arrived, I noticed that there was a faint sewage smell. I discovered the source after a few minutes of sniffing: the sink in the bathroom is a small pedestal style sink pushed up to the wall very close. No room for a proper trap under the sink. The purpose of a trap is to hold water and prevent sewage gas from escaping up the drain. I solved the problem for the most part by wetting a washcloth and placing it over the sink drain .. then putting some water in the sink. It lasted a few hours, which was plenty.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location is close to the airport Good wifi Friendly staff
Cons: No windows in the room! TV didn't work

Pros: Staff in restaurant were nice.
Cons: Mattresses were awful. Thin and hard. Depressing room. Nobody picked us up from the airport after a twelve hour flight even though we had a lot of contact about this.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was a very nice place to stay (little paradise). The staff was very friendly and helpfully! We come back again!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Close to Poás volcano, nice gardening, good sized bedroom and very kind staff.
Cons: Toilet seat doesn't match with the sanitary. Courtain also could be doubled to ensure more privacy.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The receptionist was very accommodating, kind, and helpful. The rooms were spacious and close together. We rented several rooms to fit our large family, and they even threw in an extra room for our grandparents who were traveling with us. The restaurant was delicious and fresh, and so nice, as we were on our last night in San Jose, leaving early in the morning and didn't have a lot of cash to call a cab. The location is a little remote and it was nice to have a good restaurant on site. Also, the receptionist was very helpful in calling a cab for us the next morning. He gets 5 stars for his hospitality and helpfulness!
Cons: The mattresses and sheets were quite worn. There were ants in one bedroom. The vibe of the hotel is very laid back and nice but honestly, it could use a little more in depth maintenance to really get it nice. It may have been the season but there were large spiders everywhere you looked in the trees. The hotel itself and awning area were spider free but it was pretty creepy to look up and see them.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: This place is a secret treasure on a hill next to a coffee farm. So close to Alajuela but without the chatter of some of the other convenient locations. There are nice gardens, a pool, & restaurant on site. The resident cats are cute & friendly.
Cons: T
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Located 2 1/2 miles north of Alujela, it is in the quiet and green of the country side but still just a few minutes away from the bustling city by bus. The staff is genuinely friendly- not just at reception but thru out the stay. We love the rustic natural look and feel of the place
Cons: It’s not for everyone but travelers will appreciate it.

5,4 Okay
Pros: Stuff was nice. Hotel is close to the airport.
