Pros: Sehr Gut!
Cons: Extra German hotel stay tax to be paid before leaving.
Pros: the rooms were stylish, the building light and airy, the site and environs beautiful. And the hotel was only just outside the centre of Xanten.
Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable bed, quiet, nice breakfast. Perfect for what we needed at that point, would stay again.
Cons: Traditional Western German kind of decoration, just don’t expect anything special from the place.
Pros: You approach via an avenue of old Lime trees past the site of the ancient leprosy house and the gallows hill. The hotel is situated on the Santiago pilgrim path. The monastery up the road is now a Hindu retreat with 2 genuine Indian holy cows (the third one died). Absolutely all the windows have properly fitted insect screens, so no midges. There is a vast playground with fruit trees. There is unlimited parking. The breakfast buffet had an extensive choice of nice food.
Cons: We did not walk into town as we had small grandchildren with us, but as there was free parking at the archaeological site it was no problem taking the car instead. I am sure you could walk to Xanten.
Cons: Knowleadge of english language is a bit poorer than I supposed.
Cons: Room is somewhat 'bare'.. no carpets, not much decoration.. feels somewhat 'austere' in that regard. Would be nicer to have a carpet, paintings etc.. something more warm in the design.
Pros: There was a lovely playground for our children to enjoy, it was idyllic and peaceful The family room was clean and modern, very high standard and we would recommend and would stay again Breakfast was delicious.

Pros: Too expensive for this sort of hotel. Breakfast was good but also very pricy.
Cons: Heating was too cold
Pros: Staff/owner was exceptionally accommodating and warm. It's a very quaint property with everything you need in a great location. Highly recommended!
Cons: Everything was perfect.
Pros: Everything was great about this property. The attention to details was also a plus. Simple breakfast, but really made with care and quality products.
Cons: Unfortunately weather was not our friend during our stay, as we were stroke by a heatwave (40°C). The property didn’t have A/C and the fan was not very powerful - maybe something to consider.
Pros: The rooms are rather charming with themes and interesting paintings relevant to the theme. The rooms were warm and the beds comfortable. Breakfast provided lots of choice in a pleasant environment. The location is great for the pretty little town of Xanten. There were plenty of bars, shops and restaurants although on a Sunday evening in cold March it was rather quiet. Parking outside the door was excellent.
Cons: The WiFi was not very reliable.
Pros: Artistic style welcome and wonderful location. It felt like we slept in the garden!!
Pros: Very friendly host who was keen that our stay should be comfortable!
Pros: Totally individual and delightful. We stayed in the room called Flora and paintings on walls, in the bathroom and all the knickknacks were around the theme. A very short walk to this delightful medieval town and loads of restaurants/bars to select nearby. Breakfast was individually prepared and excellent.
Pros: Centrally situated in beautiful small Dutch town. Friendly host, comfortable and tastefully decorated accommodation. Walking distance from main square with restaurants.

Cons: nothing in the room to make tea of coffee no fridge in the room late breakfast ( 7h)
Cons: Wifi wasn’t Working properly.
Cons: Very clean, friendly, great location...plenty of free parking
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely beer garden where we had a a very nice meal - although the schnitzel was unfortunately over cooked.
Cons: No A/C. The staff strangely turned off the lights in the beer garden while we were still there. We were about to leave in a few mins and it was cooler outside that in the room.
Pros: Excellent location for the Old Town; excellent dinner in the restaurant; excellent breakfast. Plenty of easily accessible parking.
Pros: Very flexible when something went wrong with the booking and we needed a few more beds for kids. Pleasant staff in general, and a breakfast buffet with many fresh choices.

Cons: I was hoping to walk to the town centre canteen from the hotel but it turned out it was a 15 minute drive
Pros: Good food and breakfast
Cons: Location its middle of nowhere
Pros: Great breakfast and very friendly staff.
Cons: Little bit ‘aged’ but OK
Pros: Clean rooms Delicious food Good atmosphere Great location
Pros: It was very quiet. Breakfast was good choice.
Cons: We were very disappointed to arrive after a very long cycle ride to find the shutters down and the door locked.having studied the website over and over,we were lead to believe that a good food menu was available.the hotel is in quite an isolated spot regarding food availability, particularly when a bicycle is the only form of transport.when the door was opened and we were checked in,we were informed that there is no food on Tuesdays.!!!!I can find no mention of this at all on the website.we were directed half a mile down the road to a Chinese restaurant.thank goodness that was open.all the other guests that night were also on bicycles as well. The towels and bedding had seen better days.
Pros: Big room, quite and clean, basic but functional. Restaurant was excellent value for money and very tasty food. I am on a cycling tour and they locked my bike in a secure garage for me. The breakfast was a very good quality buffet, much better than your average!
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and service was excellent. The food was plentiful and delivered quickly, as was the beer. We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay and it was a joy to enjoy the beer garden on midsummers night.
Cons: Only one thing - the square pillows. Only a very small thing - everything else was great
Pros: Clean room and very comfortable bed, quiet location. Excellent breakfast. Helpful pleasant staff. Safe place to store our bikes. For dinner I had half a roast chicken and chips and goulash soup to start, very nice and filling. The draught beer was good.
With a stay at Hotel Birten in Xanten (Düsseldorf Government Region), you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Archaelogical Park and Xanten Market Square.
Pros: Inexpensive hotel near Xanten
Cons: It’s in an industrial estate
Cons: Alles was perfect
Pros: good breakfast
Pros: Comfortable bed, good water pressure in the shower and bonus tea/coffee making facilities.
Cons: The walls are paper thin and you hear everything. We happened to have people next to us who did not know how to lower their voices or their ‘bedtime’ fun for the comfort of other guests around them. When we asked to be moved the manager advised us that there were no other rooms available and refused to speak to the noisy guests. We were told to speak to them ourselves which is completely inappropriate. There were other rooms available as confirmed afterward on the online booking system. We then experienced a sleepless night whilst the other guests enjoyed their late night chats through to 1am. Just when we thought we could get some sleep then their lovely slumber of snoring was heard for the remainder of the night. We were the unlucky ones!
Pros: Quiet. Smart check in. Clean. 1st beer was free.
Cons: We could have used some food when we checked in late in the evening. There was none in the neighborhood.

The Roman Archaeological Park is also only a 10-minute drive away. Drivers will find Gästehaus zur Post easily accessible by road and free private parking is available on site.
Pros: The room was clean with a comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Parking on the street outside was free. Very good breakfast included in the price which wasn't on site but in gausthaus spickermann. We ate there in the eveing in the beer garden and the food was very hearty with big potions and a few veggie options. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice view from the room of the village.
Cons: The checking in process involved going to the gausthaus spickermann to get the key. The women who checked us in was very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. No Air conditioning in the room making sleep impossible as it was very hot when we're there. The room was accessed by an outside staircase. No lift. The corridor to the room smelt of cigarette smoke. Not Great value for money.
